ITM. Deep wooded forest to beach. Reminds me a lot of the varied terrain I see in off roading videos in Western Australia.

ITM!! Oh man, Western Australia was on the list of places to visit for a long time before the shutdowns. Maybe one day. We’ll see 🤔

The best trail to hike is at the State Park...Trail #9. Spectacular views.

I live within minutes of the dunes. Thank you for exploring the natural bio-diversity of the area. Several years ago, National Geo. came and held an event called Bio Blitz. Scientist counted all the species found with volunteers for 24 hours. We went searching for snakes. Did not find any. You saw a snake on your first day. Congrats.

It’s America’s newest! Designated in 2019. Worth a trip if you’re in the area or visiting Chicago.

When I was a teenager in the 60s it was actually pretty nice. I visited last fall and was really disappointed. A steel mill right in the middle of the shoreline and a nuclear power plant at the east end kind of ruined it for me. The pollution burned my eyes and nose. Glad it worked out for you.

Sad to hear how things have changed. It was our first time so we had no comparison. We enjoyed ourselves more than we thought we would!

@@TheTravelingTacosyour video looked like you found it enjoyable and it didn’t showcase the unfortunate industrialization. Kudos!

I’m a bit late but I’m curious how you didn’t notice Bethlehem Steel in the 60s when it had been there since 1962 and also NIPSCO isn’t a nuclear plant it’s a coal plant and that’s been there since 1929 so that was also there in the 60s when you went. I’m just really curious why it bothers you now but didn’t in the 60s they were both there.

@@DakotahMiskus much of what was there in the early 60s was expanded and intensified over the years. It wasn't the full industrialization you see today. That's my recollection. I'm not at all opposed to union steel mills. It's just not a great location for a National Park in my opinion. Glad they saved some of it, I guess.

The Indiana Dunes National park was not a state park but a National Lakeshore until 2019.

It was both actually. Different parts were under different protections. Some parts are still a state park today!

It still has the state park. It was NTL Lakeshore and State Park. It is now NP and State Park.
