    I've returned to this video 4 times, every time I go on a hunt for that book you referenced in the high seas, every time I'm disappointed.

      Libraries are being canceled!

    • @5Detective
      @5Detective ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@talkinbout8159 I mainly don't go to my local library because the staff there are mean and they fired the only person there who actually liked her job and did programs for the children... I really like your videos, and you seem nice, but I can't tell if this response is needlessly petty or I'm misreading it. Hope you're well though.

      @@5Detective My reply was more just a non sequitur, just saying something to show that I read what you wrote, but libraries are indeed dying and it sounds like your experience lines up with that. I always found the atmosphere of them very calming and they usually have the most unique design / architecture out of all the municipal buildings. I hope you're well too

    • @5Detective

      @@talkinbout8159 Oh, that's a relief. I read it as you saying "Oh, you buffoon, you probably don't know libraries exist, and think they're somehow related to cancel culture!"
      So I was like "Uhhh" haha. I have a personal book collection of nearly 1,500 books, and I love libraries. Just not my local one any longer.
      I think all our communal spaces where we're not expected to buy things have seen a decline in the modern era, in addition to clubs and hobby groups. These declines are definitely leading to more feelings of isolation and depression. I think that the interconnectivity of the internet is a good thing, but it's not a replacement for local community and gathering. Because while I enjoy knowing what the latest weather and gossip is in Wichita, the people in that community have very little impact on my day to day life and happiness. My local parks and rec centers can be empty and rotting, and the vlogger camping in Yosemite won't change that.
      I appreciate your replies. And I hope you enjoy your summer.

    Fantastic video. I too find Halloween very special and reserve a place deep in my heart just for the culture it is absorbed in.

    i'm almost surprised you didnt use some copyright avoiding version of the sound tracks of witchy world circus level from banjo tooie and the haunted house level from banjo kazooie for this video lol

      Video game music is the last bastion of copyright avoidant music! Shockingly it isn't gone after the same, which is why its so popular on youtube videos.

    Where do you get this weird idea that Halloween is dying? It's bigger than ever, check how much money is spent each year on costumes, decorations, and now greeting cards. The real change is Halloween's metamorphosis from a kids holiday to an adult holiday. This is a good thing. While schools may abandon the celebration (schools are abandoning all holiday celebrations for fear of offending someone), businesses and corporations are embracing it. There are more costume parties than ever, and most offices are decorated now. We still have tons of kids trick-or-treating as well, it's not as if the practice is disappearing. All indications are that Halloween is alive and well, and will probably continue long after you and I are gone.

    You'd think candy corporations would try everything possible to keep it going. I know that's a skeptical take. But I also really don't want to see this holiday teeter off into nothing. It's such great fun, and a magical time 😋

    Hey I'm new to the channel (came from the King of the hill video) and I love your style of videos! My whole family LOVES Halloween and have worked in the haunted house industry their whole lives. It's a tradition I for sure want to pass onto my kids when I get older just because it's so much fun! I think my parents would disown me if I didn't lol. Keep up the good work!

    Wanna know your opinion on all holidays now. do you think it’s only Halloween decaying over the decades, or do you think it’s all holidays that are just slowly decaying? My bf and I really enjoyed your video and had us thinking about all the holidays in general and how they all feel somewhat gone, if that makes sense lol we’ve hit almost every milestone besides costume parties though hoping for next year!

    • @talkinbout8159
      @talkinbout8159  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glad you enjoyed it! I think nearly all the holidays are suffering from 1.) an increase in cheap commercialization, holidays feel more flimsy, more cash grabby 2) less emphasized, out of fear non-celebrators are excluded and 3) probably some subjective nostalgia (I know I have childhood rose tinted glasses)
      I hope you have a great first costume party when it comes! There are so many good ideas for couples costumes.

    Where do you live, man???
    I've never heard of any of this anti-halloween stuff before. I'm 23 and live in Southwestern WA state. Halloween is the biggest Holiday where I live next too Christmas. Everyone and their grandma loves halloween here and the churches here always hold parties and potlucks on Halloween. Maybe try moving lol

      @@talkinbout8159 WA state and Oregon are both really big on the holiday. I live only about a half hour away from where Halloweentown was filmed. Every year in St. Helens, Oregon they decorate downtown like it was in the movies. Also, if you live in the suburbs expect your neighbors too put on big haunted house attractions that are setup usually in the garage or the first floor of the house. Or just big giant parties where the whole neighborhood shows up too get stoned and plastered. You'll love it here, lol

      As someone who lived in Washington State until fairly recently, I've only ONE person (a public school bus driver) who had a problem with Halloween for religious reasons. You "might" find the occasional individual saying things like Halloween encourages unhealthy eating or even that it promotes racism, but luckily they're a minority.

      Edit: my opinion on it is. Kids are like caterpillars the more you shelter them and cocoon them the second theyre free from it theyll be drawn to the hottest flame
