im just praying amazon doesnt me with another manual copyright strike or im screwed for covering this or anything. my channel will be deleted. eek. but as long as that doesnt happen, ill cover this show for years to come as it is quickly becoming my favorite show ever. loving it!
@@bridge4 I’ve seen several channels get these strikes. It seems whoever they contracted to copyright claim is out for blood lol. Be careful hope it doesn’t happen!
Love this! I’m trying to find a good TH-camr to follow to watch wheel of time content. I tried another one with a huge following but in their review of this episode they spent half the time talking about how they knew spoilers but weren’t going to spoil them. I just want a breakdown and good content like this, keep it up!
I saw the whole Kerene and Stepin storyline as laying down a baseline fir the warden bond bc something might happen with Moiraine/Lan that will challenge it. Loved the end scene. And Daniel Henney knocked it out of the park
i dont have time to watch anyone elses. so i dunno about that. but it took me over 24 hours (with a 7 hour sleep in the middle lol) so i did my best. thats all i can do. thanks tho! :))
thanks. one correction though that i've been made aware of. although there are 13 forsaken in the books, there are 8 figurines in the scene. so its possible that the show is condensing the Dark One's lead team to 8 instead of 13. my bad about that!
was it a separate book? ill have to rewatch. i thought he was reading about the Karaethon Cycle within Jain Farstriders book, but i could be mistaken. i was too focused on Loial and his smiles to see if Rand grabbed another book :))
@@SolitaryLark He picked up the Karaethon Cycle first and read it's title outload before Loial comes in (if I am remembering correctly), Loial hands him the Travels of Jain Farstrider after
I haven’t read the books, but LAN still seemed very stoic to me. Thank you for this video! I am really into this show, to the point that I will probably read the books while waiting for (🤞🏼🤞🏼) S2. ✌🏼💖
you should. they are excellent! and if youre into audible, michael kramer and kate reading do the narration (same as most of bradon sandersons stuff). rosamund pike has also done a new narration of book 1 (maybe more in the future, but i dont know for sure). enjoy :))
Thats just semantics tbf... that was the reason why he allowed himself to break down. But that doesnt change the fact that he broke down. He just did it as part of the ritual 🤔
@@adoniscreed4031 Eh less semantics and more… hmm intent or context maybe? Screaming randomly vs for emotional reason vs for a ceremony are all different contexts and lead you to think different things about a person based on that context.
My friend and I just watched the first 5 episodes yesterday. These videos have provided great additional information on them. I'm really liking this series. I read some of the books years ago. Stopped somewhere in the 6th I think. I remember some broad strokes but not many details. So these are a great refresher without spoiling things. Great videos.
@@bridge4 I'm a huge fan, waiting 30yrs for this adaptation and very happy! Excited for the next episodes, RJ had excellent finales! Hope the same for the show.
I’m pretty hooked into this show and must applaud you for your time and effort to break it down in such a simple understandable way without horrible background music, sound effects or terrible catchphrases. I have trouble remembering who’s who and what town is called what etc. I watch an episode and really like it. Follow up with your videos and then love the episode more as you tie everything together nicely.
are you referring to the one that confronted them? my first instinct was Dapple, but i lean towards Burn now since the wolf seemed a little angry lol. team dapple tho for sure :))
yeah, i actually didnt catch it at first either. my process is always - watch the episode - write a rough draft - go to bed - watch it a second time - amend the script - watch it a third time as im producing the video I didnt realize Lan was drugged until the rewatch, so now, on top of a more general feeling of loss that people such as Nynaeve feel in terms of her parents, Lan now carries personal guilt just like Perrin carries in regards to Laila and Mat carries in regards to the farm family
@@bridge4 Your analysis makes a lot of sense. Lan is going to have some demons to fight internally. I'm going to re-watch it now, and pay attention to the points you made. I actually liked the white-cloak's scene the best. Those men are crazy fanatical. I would not want to be on any lists they have...
im with ya in that they are scary!! here's my one gripe with the white cloaks scenes .... im one of those people that cannot hear people chew. i think its because im a very visual learned and thinkner. so the sound of chewing monopolizes my mind with thoughts of tongues and saliva and ew, i just hate it. i literally dont eat near people. and when i go out, i go out solo and wear headphones at the bar LOL. ok i think you get the point. its been a long day, so now im rambling my point though is that Eamon Valda was chewing in his very first scene and AGAIN in episode 5. and my phobia makes it hard for me to even watch those scenes. no exageration, if i wasnt working on projects for the show, i would mute those scenes. but since i have to pay attention to dialogue, i haaaave to listen, and its really painful for me to do so lol (i know, i know. im crazy. but it is what it is. it grosses me out so bad)
@@bridge4 Lol, there's a medical term for that, but I haven't practiced medicine in years, so I forget it...lol, no worries though. When someone chews while talking, its annoying to me, so I thought that was purposely done just to increase the viewer's irritation at the Valda. Everything about him is/was annoying. Even the fact that hes meticulously clean is annoying. He makes your skin crawl......like someone scratching a chalkboard. On the re-watch, you can hear the dogs starting to bark shortly after Valda re-enters the room....Like they were feeling Perrin's pain or anxiety.Perrin seems to be more than he appears. But I'm sure youll say there's a spoiler in there......
Honestly, it took me a couple of minutes to make link the tea leaves and Lan waking up in almost the same state he'd been in at the end of the prior scene.
Great analysis, it is very helpful since I haven’t read the books but love the show, enjoying your soft voice, you are doing great job, so wonderfully explained and narrated. Thank you.
First time i watched the episode i was 'meh'. Second time i watched it- noticed the things i had missed the first time, that you picked up on :). Without spoiling non-readers it was the tinkers linking arms that got me, because it is a direct throwback to a really moving scene set in the age of legends with the daishan aiel in book 4...solid 8/0 for me. Anyway great breakdown and great explanations for non-readers!.
i cannot recall the scene you are referring to in book 4... (im currently rereading book 4 though. is it in the second half or did i miss it - i began the reread of it two weeks ago but got sidetracked reading AMOL and random chapters among all the books for projects im working on)
@@bridge4 i dont think this quote spoils people but if you want me to delete it let me know - i loved this scene and i think the parallel with the tinkers is deliberate 'Ten thousand Aiel linking arms and singing, trying to remind a mad man of who they were and who he had been. Trying to turn him with their bodies.... and a song. Jaric Mondoran killed them. He stood there staring as though at a puzzle, killing them, and they kept closing their lines and singing. I am told he listened to the last Aiel for almost an hour before destroying him'
@@bridge4 We don't actually see it happen as such; it's a 'memory' of something that had happened thousands of years before, in a place that stores those memories...

Correction loghain has a talent there are multiple kinds of semi magical talents in The Wheel of Time and one Talent is the ability to see tavern. Turn has something else and there are many talents that are both associated with the wind power and that are independent of it
haha i was wondering how long it would take for someone to call out my poor wording on that. i wont bore you with details, but over the course of making the video and then rendering it 4 times to fix transition timing and audio levels, i probably heard myself say that line 10 times. and literally on yhe last time around 740pm or whatever, i caught it. i decided just to publish tho, because this particular video took about 40 minutes to render. so betweeb recording, editing, rendering, uploading, and waiting for youtube to process the HD version, i wouldnt have been able to release the next version for about 90 minutes. thats awesome you caught that tho. and i hear. technically it was just poor wording (im bad with words) but i unfortunately knew that it would come across to book readers as if i was referring his Talent as the only Talent (his being named "the Talent") my bad :))
hey man. one correction i was made aware of. i mentioned the Dark One's 13 Forsaken. but there are 8 figurines in the show. so its possible that the show is rolling with the Dark One having 8 Forsaken (powerful bad guys and girls) instead 13. granted, until they state it, who knows =))
spoilers below . . . . . . . im treading very lightly in the nonspoiler videos so as not to spoil that for show-only watchers. but i totally hear ya :))
Yeah I totally missed that too. It's almost as if the showrunners are counting on people like bridge to catch and break moments like these down for other folk... heh Also, excellent username!
since i finally finished this project 24 hours later lol, i finally started going through all the WOT reddit thread popups. and i noticed a bunch of people saying that they were eyeing up the Novices to see if they were Accepted, so their eyes didnt catch him for whatever reason, my eyes when right to him on the first watch last night and i was like oh dammmn. that shady bastid! lol the one thing i didnt get until the rewatch was that Stepin drugged Lan. when i saw that this mornign, my heart broke for Lan. he's going to be crushed with guilt :(
duuuude. so i had read spoilers on reddit a few months ago of people talking about Stepin taking his life. and im not sure how they figured that out. i guess maybe the scene of him holding the Aes Sedai ring in the teaser or trailer was obvious to them. im a dumbass though lol. or maybe i'm just a softy and didnt want to 100% believe it until it happened. so im totally with you. i was realllllly hoping Nynaeve would bond him (even though she's not Aes Sedai) *sigh* you will be missed, Stepin!
@@bridge4 Maybe I’m a softie too, because though I thought Stepin killing himself was possible, I didn’t want to believe it, all the way up until Lan found him dead. 😭😭😭
Minor book spoilers ... I don't understand the bit about Moiraine having two powerful enemies in the White Tower. In the books (and I'm now up to 4.5) she is in league with the Amyrlin Seat. Is this a change in the basic plot, is it a bit of subtlety lost on me or is Alanna just wrong? Keep 'em coming, Kev - I love your work!
early book 2 and prequel spoilers below (the great hunt and New Spring) . . . . . . . . this doesnt happen until the beginning of book 2 (chapter 4 or 5 iirc), but its probably going to happen in the show in the next episode Moiraine and Siuan were best friends (thats what the New Spring prequel is about). in fact, they were more than that. they were "pillow friends" which is Robert Jordan's way of saying lovers. Moiraine and Siuan were both in the room when Gitara had the Foretelling of the Dragon Reborn being born. and at the time, they were still Accepted. so Moiraine and Siuan have been searching for the Dragon Reborn longer than anyone there are about 1200 Aes Sedai, and not all are at the White Tower at any given point in time. Some sisters know and remember that Moiraine and Siuan were best friends. But many do not. And it's to their advantage to keep their friendship a secret. So basically, I was misleading in this video because the show has been misleading so far as well - EP 4: Stepin (Kerene's Warder) told Lan that Siuan is not any fonder of Moiraine - EP 5: Allana told Moiraine that Siuan is one of Moiraine's enemies (as well as Liandrin) here's whats confusing though. in episode 4, Allana asked Moiraine about her "pet" that she allowed in her bed. And Moiraine asked if Kerene had told Allana to get information out of her due to her relationship with that person. So at first, it seemed that both Kerene and Allan knew that Moiraine was friends with the Amyrlin, Siuan Sanche. but if so, it's weird that Stepin seemed to think that Siuan was not fond of Moiraine (maybe Kerene knew but Stepin didnt know?) to add another wrinkle, at the end of their Ep4 convo, Allana said she remembered the name of the girl: Jenny. it wasn't Jenny. It was Siuan. So my take, for now, is that Moiraine thought that Kerene and Allana knew about her friendship with Siuan, but they didn't. Or maybe Kerene knew, but Allana and Stepin didnt sorry, im rambling. what I meant to say from the beginning is that there is probably going to be a tense scene in the next episode. but then the Amyrlin will call Moiraine into a private meeting, and they will hug and smile like little school girls. because Moiraine has found the Dragon Reborn!!! and that has been their mission for 20 years (since before they were even raised to Aes Sedai) that tense scene occurs in book two, but looks to be coming in episode 6 =))
@@bridge4 spoilers.......... ......i don't think Moirraine even knows who the dragon is yet in this show. If it's Nyneave then I can't watch it anymore. If it's not then she still isn't at the part where she discovers who it is. They aren't even supposed to be in Tar Valor right now. They're supposed to be in Caemlyn. I think they wasted a lot of time on the warder stuff in this episode. Also, where are the dreams???? They're supposed to be talking to you-know-who in their dreams already. The momentum of that part of the plot has just dropped off?! I realize they're trying to confuse and surprise all of us, but it's more confusing than anything. Although I still love a lot of the scenes. And music!!!!! ❤
Here's the thing. In the Books, it's not been just 2 years since Moiraine has been back to the White Tower. She hasn't returned since she left at the end of New Spring... 20 years before. They also created a public display of a nasty fight to throw off suspicion that they were actually working together (Siuane using the spy and information network, and getting info to Moiraine who was doing the actual hunting). Siuane is said to have made derogatory remarks about Moiraine as often as she could during that time. When Siuane travels to Fal Moran to meet Rand, they keep up the airs of a feuding pair of ex-lovers and only drop the cover when they knew they were alone and warded from others spying on them. They pulled it off so well that those who knew them best as Accepteds and newly-raised Aes Sedai bought it hook, line, and sinker (Elaida, Sheriam, and Allanah).
@@Unlitedsoul Correction* 1. Siuan brings retinue from White tower to Fal Dara. Not Fal Moran thats the capital of Shienar, Seat of King Essar Togita. 2. Everyone bought Their rivalry, exept Verin, who had taught them as initiates.Which leads to her becoming their confidant.
@@bridge4 I think you misunderstood. When Moiraine asked Allana about her gathering information, it wasn't because of Moiraine's relationship to suian, it was because of Moiraine's friendship to Allana herself. As for the wrinkle in what Allana said, there isn't one, Allana wasn't literally speaking about a girl, she was literally speaking about a dog. There may well have been a dog called Jenny used as a cover by Moiraine and Suian. So what Allana said wouldn't be a lie. Also, if Allana knew about Moiranie and Suians past relationship, but knows that Suian is angry now, she could simply presume that there was a bad breakup. So none of it is wrinkled in any way in my opinion. I don't think Karene ever knew of any of it. She wanted Allana to find out what Moiraine was up to after all.
My biggest gripe with the whole thing is super petty but Liandrin’s head is so damned square all I see when I look at her is Lord Farquaad and it’s driving me nuts. They’re even wearing the same color! They need to put that girl’s hair down!
lol i had to look up "lord farquaad" but now that i see it, i can see what you're saying. the actress definitely has a strong jaw. by episode 4 though, she'd grown on me as Liandrin. nice power scene between her and Moiraine in episode 5 =))
i actually feel bad. because in my rough draft, i had a line pointing out how the show gave her a backstory as to why she hates men (its implied in this episode that she was abused by them as a girl). when i was editing to the final draft though, i grabbed a seciton with "cut" and never repasted it. and i realized that i lost that line before recording. so i had the opportunity to add it back in. but based off of the way i had rewritten stuff, it didnt fit in smoothly. (it wouldve been one of me ad hoc "its also worth nothing...." between sections. so shoutout to show Liandrin. she's still annoying, but at least now i sympathize with her a little
Does anyone have any idea of the significance of the object on the wall that Moiraine opened? It looked like a picture, but these details can be important later so I'm wondering about it...
spoilers for beginning of book 2 below . . . . . . . i do not recall this painting in a casing being in the books. so if it is, i missed it but since she looked at it with fondness after allana left, im led to believe it relates to their conversation. their conversation was about alanna warning moiraine that she has two enemies: liandrin and siuan. of course, alanna is mistaken about the latter so if i had to guess, that is a painting that siuan did of moiraine. (its a stretch, but thats the best i got for now)
yeah i read on reddit that a bunch of people were focused on the Novices. for whatever reason, i was looking behind them. low and behold, the one and only padan fain lol
I don't mind that Lan isn't quite as stoic. But that ending scene was a bit... weird, nothing about the ritualistic chest thumping and screaming up at the sky really landed. Other than that, fantastic episode. Oh, and are they doing a thing where Perrin's eyes are only golden when he's "connected" to the wolves? Kinda hoping that's not the case
i hear ya. hats off to the actor tho. hes talented. and in terms of perrin, i wouldnt be surprised if they go with it part of the time for CG cost reasons but to play devils advocate, having goldeneyes all the timr plays a role in how others see him and how he sees himself. so actually, im going to change my opinion if i had to guess, he is just going through a transition. and maybe his eyes get locked in to goldeneyes after he taps in them a few times. something like that maybe?
@@bridge4 I immediately thought the same thing about cost cutting (though maybe they can get away with practical effects, i.e. special contacts? Might suck for the actor though). The thing is, a lot of my favorite Perrin moments are people reacting to seeing his eyes, and it happens a lot in non combative contexts. Will be interesting to see what direction they take this
yeah. to be honest, i handt even considered it until i read your message. cause videos liek this are time-sensitive (and my process takes way longer than the way most do it). so i get in a sort of tunnel vision. its not until chatting with yall and while watching UFCs on saturdays that i get to sit back and reassess the logic of stuff in a proper way. so thank you for pointing that out like you said, having goldeneyes at all times plays a big part into how many see him as well as how he sees himself. his insecurity with it. so it would be nice if he got them full-time. but its not a deal breaker. either way, he's going to be troubled character with a badass arc =))
Fain could have given information to Valda, but I tend to doubt that. I think Valda was acting on instinct after suspecting the entire party in Episode 2. Nice catch on Fain's whistle tune in Shadar Logoth. I missed the entirely. While I like the acting between Lan and Stepin in this show, it makes little sense to me as to why they would be so close. Stepin acted closer to Alanah's warders in previous episodes than he did with Lan. But, I get that the are doing this to setup a storyline that will come down the line. The whole funeral scene was great, I just don't think it should have been Lan at the center of it. I like how they continue to play the distraction tactic between Rand and Matt. Logain does not have the talent to see ta'varen. This is a misconception many make. Logain never states he can see ta'veren in the books. In fact, he does not see the same sort of glow around either Mat or Perin when he meets them at Merrilor. He, like any other male channeler, has the ability to see the strength and potential of another male channeler (this works with women as well, though women can hide it better). Logain even states that he saw a man in Caemlyn who was far stronger in the One Power than he, and found it ironic as the man (Rand) was literally sitting under the nose of dozens of Aes Sedai while he'd been captured and gentled. Is it just me, or does it seem like they are replacing Elaida with Liandrin?
spoilers below . . . . . fain can also be heard whistling offscreen as they enter the inn :)) in terms of Logain, i think you may be right. ive read those passages used as eveidence so many times, and theres not definitive proof that he is ta'veren. but i guess ive been biased by the community to believe the "mistake" that the community has peddled lol also, i admittedly dont think that he was looking up there at them, but rather, specifically at rand. but since this was a non spoiler video, the "them" route worked better so as not to spoil anything so the silver lining is that my misunderstanding of logain helped me highlight that important moment for show-watchers to remember without directly spoiling who logain was really looking at :))
in terms of lan and stepin, i see it a little differently. although stepin interacted more smoothly with the other warders at the camp fire, he went inside and spoke about reticent lan to kerene. and its open to interpretation, but between that line and their training together, i took it as the shows way of saying they were boys. i hear ya tho
oh and in terms of liandrin being an amalgomation, my head says yes. but my heart says no since it would require a material change one way or another. if it is the case though, that opens up interesting ways to adapt their arcs
@@bridge4 Whoa, you mean the inn where we first see Thom? I didn't catch that one either. Guess it's time to have my ears checked... or cleaned out. Whichever. ;) If that's the case, he's been following the boys. This would put him out of the realm of being able to tell Valda about Egwene. But, I suppose he could find a way to get a message to the camp. Agreed on Logain looking at Rand, but I do like how they put the focus on Mat. Right now, my GF can't make up her mind on who the Dragon might be. She's sure it's one of the two, and she has sound reasons for each, but the show has done a good enough job to keep her guessing at it. And no, I won't tell her! Oh yes, good point on the spoilers. So, don't change or make a correction. At least not until the reveal is finally made.
@@bridge4 I can see that too, but I just didn't get that feel. I mean, he was even gossiping in a negative fashion with Karene about Moiraine and Lan in Episode 4. I did get the feeling that they were friends, but not nearly as close as this episode presented. So it's kind of a mixed bag, IMO. But it is a damned good bit of foreshadowing.
Amazing video! Question and feel free to spoil for me since I’ve only read the first few books - is Valda a dark friend? How else would Fain be telling him information. Just curious. Thanks.
Valda doesn't need to be a Darkfriend for Fain to use him. If Fain knows what Valda wants, there's no reason why he can't use that to get what Fain himself wants. Valda might be a little suspicious of Fain; frankly, he appears to be suspicious of everyone. But if Fain came to him saying he was afraid of the witch called Egwene, Valda's zeal (and obvious misogyny) might lead him to believe Fain. (That said, I'm not saying that Valda isn't a Darkfriend, because he very well may be one. WAFO!)
i just double checked and unless i missed it, they didnt say eight or thirteen. is eight the "word around town"? and if so, i wonder if it is some sort of leak or maybe people counted the statues (my other screen is jammed up screencapping stuff. so i cant double check right now. but ill try to remember to go double check how many figurines there are before bed)
Oh you're right, I just counted the statues and made up my mind. Talk about unreliable narrators! If GRRM wants any help on the Winds of Winter I'd be happy to help...
whoops, i should have refreshed the page before respoinding. yeah, you make a great point though. i shouldve counted them too. if i had to guess, you're probably right. they will cut out some forsaken to simplify the long-term plots however, since they havent stated a number yet, they still have the flexibility of going with 13 (and then we will just have to assume that Stepin's info was wrong, or he had 5 more off-camera) but yeah, i think you figured out a major show change. 8 instead of 13 =)) so now we have to speculate, which 8 will it be!?!? im going to think hard about this over the weekend =))
oh yeah. its become my favorite completed series. what a solid ending! (granted, im biased since Brandon Sanderson is my favorite author, so i love his style. and Robert Jordan was fantastic too. what an incredible ride! =)))
Take note of Padan Fain SPOILER WARNING: Padan Fain is a darkfriend given the mission of tracking down Rand. He most certainly is following them and in Shadar Logoth he is taken over by Mordeth. In time he will grow into one of the major protagonists with all kinds pf crazy powers to the point where even the dark on can hardly control him any longer. The power of Mordeth means he carries the evil of Shadar Logoth where he corrupts everything around him making people mistrust each other and tainting their souls. He later steals Matts dagger which corrupts him further and he is quite deadly and creatively evil with it. Later in the books another evil takes root in him corrupting him even further - a kind of death fog called Machin Shin that kills everything it touches. In the end he is a completely insane and unpredictable destructive power equally dangerous to man and the forces of darkness alike. But driven exclusivly by his hatred towards Rand.
i cant recall it from the books. but it looks like a painting of her. so maybe someone she is close to painted it of her? (thats my best guess. i think it may relate to the conversation she had just been having. i dont want to say more in case you havent read the books. because it would be a minor spoiler for the next episode if i am right. but basically, i suspect that its referenced in the next episode...)

@Neg MHMD hahah yeh mot gonna lie, im a lan fan boy. so very high level, nynaeve was my favorite character in book 1. so thats why i often refer to her as "my first favorite character in the story." but technically, my first favorite character was Lan. or rather, Lan and Moiraine. they showed up to the Two Rivers so mysterious and badass. and also, Lan comes across as a ranger, which reminds me of two of my favorite characters in fantasy (Aragorn and Drizzt Do'Urden) :)) so yeah, ive been a Lan fanboy since the beginning. and the actor is killing it! :))

Carai an Caldazar! Carai an Ellisande! Al Ellisande! (do not look that up to avoid spoilers. its a The Wheel of Time war cry that i simply wrote to represent my excitement for another great episode =))
i cannot recall anything specific to the canon. there may be something tho... my main takeaway for now was just that Lan saw one missing, so thats why he ran with concern :*(
I am sorry but I have to say that I am very much disappointed in this Prime version of The Wheel Of Time. They just took a great story and re-written it. Don’t get me wrong I know they had to cut stuff out to fit in the time frames for a TV series, but they could have stuck more to the story line of the books instead of coming up with near whole episodes of scenes that are not even in the books. All I find myself doing is screaming at the TV and saying, "it was not like that”, “that is totally wrong" or "that was not even in the books". I would have to say that this prime version of the wheel of time is not great but a total disaster. I know that there has to be others other out there that know what I am talking about.
After all the different adaptations I’ve watched I just don’t find looking for a one-to-one adaptation useful for ones sanity. I love the books but I look at adaptations as separate things these days. Of course if they do everything horribly I’ll still lambast it but I think this hasn’t been wholly bad if your not to concerned with it being “accurate”.
Agreed. It's not about leaving stuff out. That is a given, but Rafe and the writers think they can re-write the story better than Jordan. Moreover, rewrite it to fit 2021 twitter.
I thought they stayed waaaaaaay too long on the Aes Sedias death. And hardly anything on the Dagger. I'm not trying to complain about it I like it. But as a book reader I'm just disappointed. the Warders don't even have their bad ass warder cloaks :(
word around town is that they didnt want to burn a ton of money on Warder cloaks. its a shame since they are soo cool, but i kinda get what they had to drop them unfortunately
@@bridge4 I dunno man it really doesn't seem like it would be thar hard. I guess with all the money they've spent in other departments something had to give. But man, the warder cloaks would have been such a cool touch.
I thoroughly enjoy your breakdowns. I did have problems with this episode though. The obvious issues with loial. It had nothing to do with the actor Hamed. He was great. It was all the unnecessary cuts they made, and for what? They Wasted half an episode on Stepin. Half an episode they could have used on Elyas, and Master Gil. People understand the warder bond after episode 4. Mat would have long been dead after a month with the dagger, If Rand hadn't murdered him for being a dick for that long. Perin after being tortured by Valda growls at him and Egwene teleports through her bonds and stabs Valda. It seriously deminishes Perin's later encounters with the White cloaks. He needs to get his hands dirty.... on purpose. Who guides Perin in the world of dreams if Hopper is alive? If There is ever a Stormlight adaptation I pray Brandon Sanderson is the showrunner and lead creative. These people are interjecting too much agenda-driven B.S. into an already enlightened fantasy world. Leandrin's Rant about Men having power over women in this world is completely disingenuous. Rafe Judkins said in an interview that "We have strong women and we don't have to weaken the Men to do it" So far he's a fuckin Liar.
'In war, you say a prayer for your dead and ride on, because there is always another fight over the next horizon.' Lan Mandragoran (New Spring), Nope sorry folks, that is not Lan you are seeing, that's a woke version. The real Lan did not even shed a tear or go into mourning when his friend/ foster father died, definitely not for stepin who he hardly knew!
It wasn't a bad episode, but it was a bit slow. For me it feels like cheap Game of Thrones. They killed off Steppin and he was miraculously resurrected. (He just couldn't have survived Logain attack at the end of episode 4) He is now dead in episode 5 finale. :-( He is Jon Snow from GOT (John Snow's charakter is dead in GOT season 8) . I liked Logain, Padan Fain and Loial. :-)
loial was great in this episode. and lol at you giving padan faon a shoutout for a few seconds on screen and a few seconds offscreen. i take it you are a big padan fain fan? :-P (im just kidding. his few seconds were impactful. that smirk of his is priceless. cant wait to see him turn up again :))
@@bridge4 Padan Fain is mysterious and dangerous man. He creates great haunting atmosphere. :-) I know alot information about this mysterious guy from first 3.5 books but still he manages to surprise me. :-D
@@merc9nine uh believing in an afterlife or reincarnation does not make someone not grieve death and in universe in particular the person isn’t reincarnated for a really long time and keeps none of there memories so it’s still pretty upsetting.
it is sickening when the show inserts woke like Liandrin whining about the patriarchy considering that the Aes sedia are one of the most powerful entities in The Wheel of Time, literally the power behind every throne, did the showrunners actually read the books or they just don't care and will just impose their woke agenda? note the deconstruction of Lan and the warders, no toxic masculinity here!
possible spoiler stuff and general nerd rant below. be forewarned. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . the great al' Lan Mandragoran, King of Malkier True Blade of Makier, Dai Shan wept, and i unsubscribed from amazon prime. stone faced woolhead, fade killing machine that he is, wept. gtfo. that was the last straw. this show was written by 9th graders. who tf is Elayas Machera? no one of consequence im sure. no reason to go into who was Perrin AND Lan's instructor. its a good thing they gave Stepin an entire episode just so we could see him die. and with no talk of what most Warders actually do in the book, when their Aes Sedai dies. now, how bout some wolf brother stuff? not just some flashing eyes. i want some wolf dreams. did we just see Hopper? i think they may be playing up Siuan and Moiraine's rivalry a bit, which is kinda cool. in the book, they go into it a little and say that not a lot of people remember that they were "pillow friends" or even novices and accepted together and that the formalities are just for show. next episode theyre going to be drinking tea and fingering their shawls together. mark my words. i do like Mat though. hes supposed to look and act like the armpit of the world. not enough dagger caressing though lol. and why is Loial a midget? hes supposed to be like twice the size of a human. its as if the writers never even cracked the encyclopedia. or a book. or even spoke to anyone who has. blech. you kick ass for your work and ill never unsub from you but this show- blood and bloody ashes.
This loial is wrong - where are his ears? They put him on tall boots and with a lot of hair above to make him little higher but he must be 1.5 times higher than Rand like trolloc - maybe they have no money for effects, but this is not an ogier. And Loial with beard LOL very stupid - he barely have mustashes in the middle of the books.
Sorry you dont like the show… to each his own… Ive read the books many times and am enjoying the show a lot and this was one of my favorite episodes… best case scenario fir this series is 8 seasons of 8 episodes… thats 20 percent less screentime than GOT to cover more than 2x content… this is the Cliffsnotes version of WOT… massive cuts have to be made and character archs need to be accelerated through external events… they went to Tar Valon instead of Caemlyn in order to speed up the White Tower split, but will pick up Elayne back in Tar Valon in season 2… Min will be introduced in the next few episodes… Fal Dara and Lord Agelmar are in episodes 7 and 8… I would have liked Loial to be 8 feet tall but how in the world would have they sustained that for the whole series? Have the poor actor walk around on stilts the whole time? Blow their entire budget on a VFX? Speaking of budget, this show is getting about $10 million per hour of content… big budget movies like LOTR / MCU / Star Wars get about 10-15x that amount, so realistically it will never have near the CGI/VFX of a movie…. I resigned myself a long time ago that this is a new (drastically abbreviated) turning of the wheel… but this is all subjective stuff and I understand that its not your thing… we can always re-read the books…
@@topher6410 I readed all the books at least 15 times every few years i rereading them all - now after 4 episode i begun to read them again and I'am on 3rd book and the difference is very big. What about Domon, Galad, Gawyn, Margaiz, Gareth Bryne, Elaida, Elias, Basel Gill they all have their big part in the story future? What about stupid idea of female dragon which make the whole story in the books wrong. People are in fear from the dragon because he is MALE and he will go mad and destroy the world again. What about this small and pathetic Lan. The series are too small and cheap for the story from the books. Look how small is white tower from inside how small are rooms and halls - at least this is something they could do better. The story is big and heroic and they ruin it with this cheap series. I saw the whole Kerene and Stepin storyline as laying down a baseline fir the warden bond bc something might happen with Moiraine/Lan that will challenge it. Loved the end scene. And Daniel Henney knocked it out of the park
You are the best at breaking these down....like the best 😀👍👋
i dont have time to watch anyone elses. so i dunno about that. but it took me over 24 hours (with a 7 hour sleep in the middle lol) so i did my best. thats all i can do. thanks tho! :))

This was a great explanation of the episode. I didn't realise that I had missed so much.
thanks. one correction though that i've been made aware of. although there are 13 forsaken in the books, there are 8 figurines in the scene. so its possible that the show is condensing the Dark One's lead team to 8 instead of 13. my bad about that!
I loved the ending on this episode 🥲 I teared up and kept replaying when he shouted in pain
Btw Rand also picked up on the Karaethon Cycle.
Gonna be fun when he starts to decode it.
was it a separate book? ill have to rewatch. i thought he was reading about the Karaethon Cycle within Jain Farstriders book, but i could be mistaken. i was too focused on Loial and his smiles to see if Rand grabbed another book :))

I haven’t read the books, but LAN still seemed very stoic to me. Thank you for this video! I am really into this show, to the point that I will probably read the books while waiting for (🤞🏼🤞🏼) S2. ✌🏼💖
you should. they are excellent! and if youre into audible, michael kramer and kate reading do the narration (same as most of bradon sandersons stuff). rosamund pike has also done a new narration of book 1 (maybe more in the future, but i dont know for sure). enjoy :))
It's not so much that Ln broke down, as, he was selected to lead the mourning ritual; he was the soloist for the funeral.
Thats just semantics tbf... that was the reason why he allowed himself to break down. But that doesnt change the fact that he broke down. He just did it as part of the ritual 🤔
think so? if so, then what were Moiraine's tears a function of?
@@bridge4 of course he was actually emotional but his expression of it in that way was for the ceremony not himself.
@@adoniscreed4031 Eh less semantics and more… hmm intent or context maybe? Screaming randomly vs for emotional reason vs for a ceremony are all different contexts and lead you to think different things about a person based on that context.
Its not so much that Lan broke down, his character got outright assassinated.
My friend and I just watched the first 5 episodes yesterday. These videos have provided great additional information on them. I'm really liking this series.
I read some of the books years ago. Stopped somewhere in the 6th I think. I remember some broad strokes but not many details. So these are a great refresher without spoiling things.

The ending was really touching. I dint notice that Lan had been drugged. Now it makes sense.
yeah, i actually didnt catch it at first either. my process is always
- watch the episode
- write a rough draft
- go to bed
- watch it a second time
- amend the script
- watch it a third time as im producing the video
I didnt realize Lan was drugged until the rewatch,
so now, on top of a more general feeling of loss that people such as Nynaeve feel in terms of her parents, Lan now carries personal guilt just like Perrin carries in regards to Laila and Mat carries in regards to the farm family
@@bridge4 Your analysis makes a lot of sense. Lan is going to have some demons to fight internally.
I'm going to re-watch it now, and pay attention to the points you made.
I actually liked the white-cloak's scene the best. Those men are crazy fanatical. I would not want to be on any lists they have...
im with ya in that they are scary!! here's my one gripe with the white cloaks scenes ....
im one of those people that cannot hear people chew. i think its because im a very visual learned and thinkner. so the sound of chewing monopolizes my mind with thoughts of tongues and saliva and ew, i just hate it. i literally dont eat near people. and when i go out, i go out solo and wear headphones at the bar LOL. ok i think you get the point. its been a long day, so now im rambling
my point though is that Eamon Valda was chewing in his very first scene and AGAIN in episode 5. and my phobia makes it hard for me to even watch those scenes. no exageration, if i wasnt working on projects for the show, i would mute those scenes. but since i have to pay attention to dialogue, i haaaave to listen, and its really painful for me to do so lol (i know, i know. im crazy. but it is what it is. it grosses me out so bad)
Thank you.
I hope The Stormlight Archive books will not be so disapointing when they are done as movie.
I am told he listened to the last Aiel for almost an hour before destroying him'
@@tw7998 Damn Skippy 💔❣️😳🥺

Minor book spoilers ...
I don't understand the bit about Moiraine having two powerful enemies in the White Tower. In the books (and I'm now up to 4.5) she is in league with the Amyrlin Seat. Is this a change in the basic plot, is it a bit of subtlety lost on me or is Alanna just wrong? Keep 'em coming, Kev - I love your work!
early book 2 and prequel spoilers below (the great hunt and New Spring)
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
this doesnt happen until the beginning of book 2 (chapter 4 or 5 iirc), but its probably going to happen in the show in the next episode
Moiraine and Siuan were best friends (thats what the New Spring prequel is about). in fact, they were more than that. they were "pillow friends" which is Robert Jordan's way of saying lovers.
Moiraine and Siuan were both in the room when Gitara had the Foretelling of the Dragon Reborn being born. and at the time, they were still Accepted. so Moiraine and Siuan have been searching for the Dragon Reborn longer than anyone
there are about 1200 Aes Sedai, and not all are at the White Tower at any given point in time. Some sisters know and remember that Moiraine and Siuan were best friends. But many do not. And it's to their advantage to keep their friendship a secret.
So basically, I was misleading in this video because the show has been misleading so far as well
- EP 4: Stepin (Kerene's Warder) told Lan that Siuan is not any fonder of Moiraine
- EP 5: Allana told Moiraine that Siuan is one of Moiraine's enemies (as well as Liandrin)
here's whats confusing though. in episode 4, Allana asked Moiraine about her "pet" that she allowed in her bed. And Moiraine asked if Kerene had told Allana to get information out of her due to her relationship with that person. So at first, it seemed that both Kerene and Allan knew that Moiraine was friends with the Amyrlin, Siuan Sanche. but if so, it's weird that Stepin seemed to think that Siuan was not fond of Moiraine (maybe Kerene knew but Stepin didnt know?)
to add another wrinkle, at the end of their Ep4 convo, Allana said she remembered the name of the girl: Jenny. it wasn't Jenny. It was Siuan. So my take, for now, is that Moiraine thought that Kerene and Allana knew about her friendship with Siuan, but they didn't. Or maybe Kerene knew, but Allana and Stepin didnt
sorry, im rambling. what I meant to say from the beginning is that there is probably going to be a tense scene in the next episode. but then the Amyrlin will call Moiraine into a private meeting, and they will hug and smile like little school girls. because Moiraine has found the Dragon Reborn!!! and that has been their mission for 20 years (since before they were even raised to Aes Sedai)
that tense scene occurs in book two, but looks to be coming in episode 6 =))
@@Unlitedsoul Correction*
Bridge4 gives great analysis for the WOT and Game of Thrones!
Excellent breakdown.

@@bridge4 definitely. You could feel the animosity coming off of her when she spoke of men being unkind to little girls. She nailed that red energy
i actually feel bad. because in my rough draft, i had a line pointing out how the show gave her a backstory as to why she hates men (its implied in this episode that she was abused by them as a girl). when i was editing to the final draft though, i grabbed a seciton with "cut" and never repasted it. and i realized that i lost that line before recording. so i had the opportunity to add it back in. but based off of the way i had rewritten stuff, it didnt fit in smoothly. (it wouldve been one of me ad hoc "its also worth nothing...." between sections.

if i had to guess, he is just going through a transition. and maybe his eyes get locked in to goldeneyes after he taps in them a few times. something like that maybe?
@@bridge4 I immediately thought the same thing about cost cutting (though maybe they can get away with practical effects, i.e. special contacts? Might suck for the actor though). The thing is, a lot of my favorite Perrin moments are people reacting to seeing his eyes, and it happens a lot in non combative contexts. Will be interesting to see what direction they take this
Oh? I absolutely loved that scene, and it hit really hard for me. My crush on Lan grew tenfold ❤ loving this series so much
yeah. to be honest, i handt even considered it until i read your message. cause videos liek this are time-sensitive (and my process takes way longer than the way most do it). so i get in a sort of tunnel vision. its not until chatting with yall and while watching UFCs on saturdays that i get to sit back and reassess the logic of stuff in a proper way. so thank you for pointing that out
like you said, having goldeneyes at all times plays a big part into how many see him as well as how he sees himself. his insecurity with it. so it would be nice if he got them full-time. but its not a deal breaker. either way, he's going to be troubled character with a badass arc =))
Is it just me, or does it seem like they are replacing Elaida with Liandrin?

fain can also be heard whistling offscreen as they enter the inn :))
in terms of Logain, i think you may be right. ive read those passages used as eveidence so many times, and theres not definitive proof that he is ta'veren. but i guess ive been biased by the community to believe the "mistake" that the community has peddled lol
also, i admittedly dont think that he was looking up there at them, but rather, specifically at rand. but since this was a non spoiler video, the "them" route worked better so as not to spoil anything
so the silver lining is that my misunderstanding of logain helped me highlight that important moment for show-watchers to remember without directly spoiling who logain was really looking at :))
in terms of lan and stepin, i see it a little differently. although stepin interacted more smoothly with the other warders at the camp fire, he went inside and spoke about reticent lan to kerene. and its open to interpretation, but between that line and their training together, i took it as the shows way of saying they were boys. i hear ya tho
oh and in terms of liandrin being an amalgomation, my head says yes. but my heart says no since it would require a material change one way or another. if it is the case though, that opens up interesting ways to adapt their arcs
I love your voice.
I enjoy and like how can keep the positivity. I can't.
WAFO!)
How many decades is this show going to take? 14 books 2700 characters?
the show runner has planned out 8 seasons :))
Good stuff as usual
Very well 🔥🐉🐉🐲💥👸👍
lol
😮🔥🔥 didn’t catch the fain cameos
Good name bridge4. Kaladin would be proud.
Pretty sure they said EIGHT forsaken, not 13. I think that's a book -> series change
i just double checked and unless i missed it, they didnt say eight or thirteen. is eight the "word around town"? and if so, i wonder if it is some sort of leak or maybe people counted the statues (my other screen is jammed up screencapping stuff. so i cant double check right now. but ill try to remember to go double check how many figurines there are before bed)
Oh you're right, I just counted the statues and made up my mind. Talk about unreliable narrators! If GRRM wants any help on the Winds of Winter I'd be happy to help...
just double checked. so there are 8 figurines. you may be on to something with the show condensing it down to 8 forsaken
8 seasons, 8 forsaken, kinda adds up eh
whoops, i should have refreshed the page before respoinding. yeah, you make a great point though. i shouldve counted them too. if i had to guess, you're probably right. they will cut out some forsaken to simplify the long-term plots
however, since they havent stated a number yet, they still have the flexibility of going with 13 (and then we will just have to assume that Stepin's info was wrong, or he had 5 more off-camera)
but yeah, i think you figured out a major show change. 8 instead of 13 =)) so now we have to speculate, which 8 will it be!?!? im going to think hard about this over the weekend =))
@bridge4 Are you done reading the books?
oh yeah. its become my favorite completed series. what a solid ending! (granted, im biased since Brandon Sanderson is my favorite author, so i love his style. and Robert Jordan was fantastic too. what an incredible ride! =)))
like the name of your channel! Bridge 4! Yeah!
DRAGONMOUNT IS MISPLACED IN EAST WHEN IT SHOULD BE IN WEST
Take note of Padan Fain
SPOILER WARNING:
Padan Fain is a darkfriend given the mission of tracking down Rand.
Could anybody make out what Morraine opened up on the wall in her chamber.
i cant recall it from the books. but it looks like a painting of her. so maybe someone she is close to painted it of her? (thats my best guess. i think it may relate to the conversation she had just been having. i dont want to say more in case you havent read the books. because it would be a minor spoiler for the next episode if i am right. but basically, i suspect that its referenced in the next episode...)
In the books Morraine never go to Tar Valon
You must be reading a wrong book then...
@@archietrinidad2663 LOL I readed the books many times. Tell me in which book Morraine is in Tar Valon ? I mean without book 0 New Spring which is prelude to the story.

We have already glimpsed '' Ishamael '' in a few spots if you are a good observer.
That stoic, manly Lan (book) cried like a bitch in the series.
Bro you've helped understand
The real al'Lan Mandragoran:
"Men who weren't there call it the Battle of the Shining Walls. Men who were, call it the Blood Snows, no more. They know it was battle. On the morning of the first day, I led nearly 500 men; Kandori, Saldaeans, Domani.. by the evening of the third day half were dead or wounded. Had I made different choices that day, some of those dead men would be alive and others would be dead in their place. In war, you say a prayer for the dead and ride on because there is always another fight over the next horizon. Say a prayer for the dead Moraine Sedai... and ride on."
Rafe Judkin's fake Lan:
"WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!"
I need say no mf'ing more.y
Exactly! Character assassination at its finest.
I thought his name is al’Lan Mandragoran

Too many Easter eggs. Now I have to go rewatch the episode..
lol its a solid one for sure. and supposedly episode 6 is either Brandon Sanderson or Rafe Judkins favorite. supposedly the final 3 are all bangers tho =)))
Nice!
That last scene was so sad
Yes!!!!
Carai an Caldazar! Carai an Ellisande! Al Ellisande! (do not look that up to avoid spoilers. its a The Wheel of Time war cry that i simply wrote to represent my excitement for another great episode =))
Wish they would make a movie from Way of Kings or Mist born.
Those daggers have a special meaning?
i cannot recall anything specific to the canon. there may be something tho... my main takeaway for now was just that Lan saw one missing, so thats why he ran with concern :*(
I am sorry but I have to say that I am very much disappointed in this Prime version of The Wheel Of Time.
Thanks!
What da hel are the children of the light doing on the outskirts of tar valon???
Thanks
Keeb going
You are my life you are my Universal you are a beautiful boy love you Daniel 🌹 your smile Is fantastic ❤️
Guys I tell you I cried so badly this never happened to me
don't worry, it never happened in the book either.
Je ne veux pas "rejoindre, OK???? Merci
I hope they don't screw up season 1 finale. They better start some build-up.
loial was great in this episode. and lol at you giving padan faon a shoutout for a few seconds on screen and a few seconds offscreen. i take it you are a big padan fain fan? :-P (im just kidding. his few seconds were impactful. that smirk of his is priceless. cant wait to see him turn up again :))
@@bridge4 Padan Fain is mysterious and dangerous man. He creates great haunting atmosphere. :-) I know alot information about this mysterious guy from first 3.5 books but still he manages to surprise me. :-D

If Matt had killed there would have been blood on knife and hands.
it is sickening when the show inserts woke like Liandrin whining about the patriarchy considering that the Aes sedia are one of the most powerful entities in The Wheel of Time, literally the power behind every throne, did the showrunners actually read the books or they just don't care and will just impose their woke agenda? note the deconstruction of Lan and the warders, no toxic masculinity here!

the great al' Lan Mandragoran, King of Malkier True Blade of Makier, Dai Shan wept, and i unsubscribed from amazon prime. stone faced woolhead, fade killing machine that he is, wept. gtfo. that was the last straw. this show was written by 9th graders. who tf is Elayas Machera? no one of consequence im sure. no reason to go into who was Perrin AND Lan's instructor. its a good thing they gave Stepin an entire episode just so we could see him die. and with no talk of what most Warders actually do in the book, when their Aes Sedai dies. now, how bout some wolf brother stuff? not just some flashing eyes. i want some wolf dreams. did we just see Hopper? i think they may be playing up Siuan and Moiraine's rivalry a bit, which is kinda cool. in the book, they go into it a little and say that not a lot of people remember that they were "pillow friends" or even novices and accepted together and that the formalities are just for show. next episode theyre going to be drinking tea and fingering their shawls together. mark my words. i do like Mat though. hes supposed to look and act like the armpit of the world. not enough dagger caressing though lol. and why is Loial a midget? hes supposed to be like twice the size of a human. its as if the writers never even cracked the encyclopedia. or a book. or even spoke to anyone who has. blech. you kick ass for your work and ill never unsub from you but this show- blood and bloody ashes.
Ok I don't remember the book being this dramatic. The show is just moving too fast and too dramatic.
