20 years after reading the first book I am finally going to try to finish the whole series (no more years of waiting on between and forgetting all the characters... This time thank goodness for the internet!) Thanks for the videos to motivate me to get back into it 😊
Yeah, I never got to the end, having started the books in middle school, in the 90s. Waiting those 4 and 5 year gaps between books, over a decade later, with multiple books still yet to be published....I just gave up. There is such a huge backlog to get through, and at the time there was only a young internet without resources like this. Which made the reread a daunting task. With thousands of named characters I was always lost. But I'd like to at least read 14, I feel I earned tarmon gaidon, at least.
You're in for a treat and one that has still enthralled me since I first picked it up back in 1993. When AMoL came out in 2012 (The Year of the Dragon) I binged the 900+ page book in 24 hours - then immediately turned around and read it a second time, taking a week to pick up some more details. I will start my annual re-read on July 1. (For the 9th time reading it.)
Love WOT since I first started reading it in the mid 1990s. Reread many times and still find bits I'd forgotten about or missed. Enjoyed the Amazon series, so far, although it diverts from the books.
I read Eye of the World 13 years ago the summer after I graduated high school. Between work, marriage, kids, and buying a farm-I honestly didn’t remember much of it. I recently decided to give the Amazon show a watch-and I absolutely loved it! I haven’t felt this way about a fantasy series in a long time. I totally understand how fans of the books would be upset at the changes and direction the show went. But as someone who basically hasn’t read the books, it’s really good. If you go into it with zero expectations-it’s phenomenal. The same can’t be said about the Rings of Power. My wife never got into LotR, but was really into Game of Thrones. She wanted to give RoP a chance-but even she could see that it was just very sterile. The Wheel of Time show looks and feels like a lot of love was put in it. And the cast are absolutely amazing. I hope book fans can look back on it someday and see it as its own version of the story and world.
I've read this series so many times and it is/and will always be my comfort read. Love the homely Two Rivers, love the hard Aiel, love the manipulating Aes Sedai, so many great moments and such an extensive world to fall into. I do wish the New Spring series had been completed, however. If you haven't already, I highly recommend the audiobooks!
I started reading the books and slowly transitioned into the audio books, and now exclusively listen to the books. Can highly recommend them if you're like me and need to pass time in long commutes.
I adore Wheel of Time! I'm going to reread it when I get a chance. Robert Jordan lived in my city and a lot of his inspiration came from our area, such as Ogier St!
I haven't read the books, but I'm loving the Amazon show. So I just watched this video (spoiler-free for the series, but to get lots of backstory for the world itself). Then I just re-watched the opening narration of Ep 1 of the Amazon show. It's amazing how Moiraine's narration sums up this whole video beautifully in 30 seconds--from a very female Aes Sedai point of view ("Men who were born with great power thought they could cage darkness itself--the arrogance.") Hearing that line now that I have the whole story sent chills up my spine! Watching the Ep 1 opening again AFTER seeing this video was so cool! Thank you, Daniel!
@@NoNameAtAll2 I loved it! It's not as good as HotD, but it was a million times better than Rings of Power. I am excited for season 2. I want to know what's going on with the guy following the main group in that desert city, who the devil guy is and that amazing flashback to the prior turn of the wheel, and anything with the aes sedai. My favorite characters are probably Morgaine and her ward. All the wards are fascinating. And the Amberlin Seat (I'm sure I'm spelling all of this wrong). She's the most interesting character so far, out of a lot of interesting characters.
i have grown with this series and you haves shown me some art that i had never seen before thank you and hopefully the show will do the series justice.
I LOVED this! I’m on my second read through of the WOT and this really helped me put the pieces of WOT history together. Thank you for putting the time and energy into this!!!
This video was great, please keep doing these. I will be honest, I've never been able to get into WoT, but listening to a fan talk about them is a different way to enjoy! Thanks for making your great content and I hope your move went well.
I am re-reading this series as it has been a long time. I can’t believe how much I have forgotten but if Aragorn shows up in the tavern at Baerlon silently observing, I think I will loose my mind!
I went the other way, I had heard of Elantris and it was on my list. But I only started to read Brandon Sanderson because of his excellent completion of Wheel of Times. The waiting is killing me though.
Could you please tell me if we go through all this.... history with the books, or if they begin later, once the new "hero" emerges? If so, when does he appear, in which book of the series? Could I just begin there? Thanks for any answer 🎋
I loved this video, you helped me pull a lot of information together in a way that would have taken many, many days to get on my own. It's amazing how much you forget, even having done a reread in the last year. I have a feeling I'll come back to this video, again and again once the TV show comes out and I know where I'll refer my friends who are new to the story and want some background. Well done Daniel, I LOVED it!
Gotta say it has been a blessing finding the work you've done on the wheel of Time. I've watched this video many times. I knew all of the information, however, it is very nice to have it in such a stream lined form. Instead of pulling from the peices scattered over 11 thousand plus pages. Thank you and please keep it up.
For me I had to start over after the wait between books had me forgetting things that had happened when the next one came out. I eventually had to give up and wait for near the end of the series before I started over with book 1. I miss Robert Jordan and his world- would have loved to see what sort of new/continuing series he would have come up with similar to Terrys Brooks and Goodkind.
WOW! This is amazing..! So deftly done, accurate and immersive! So great to have the whole story come together in chronological order, it gives me a better picture of how things happened and why. THANK YOU, Daniel!
I'm in the middle of The Dragon Reborn and this is an amazing background to the story, it helps because these are extensive books and after 3 of them you forget some stuff. Amazing content Daniel, as I always say keep the fresh content coming, this is really good stuff.
I love this but I think there's definitely huge spoilers here. The True Power especially and the whole Fateful Concord situation should be slowly revealed (as in the books) in the show.
I had been thinking about it, but this video has officially convinced me to read The Wheel of Time! Gonna go hit up my local bookstore tomorrow! I am brand new to your channel, but have been bingewatching. You and Murphy are my favs!
I was introduced to WoT when I was 16. My best friend in high school was very into it and convinced me to check it out, using a phrase I still use today on others. "If you can get past the first 10 chapters of EotW, you'll never put the series down." Up until now, the best "history" video for WoT was the intro to the video game, imho. You have done 1000% better. You're attention to detail was spot on. I really appreciate this video and will probably send it to all my friends I'm currently trying to get into the series. (Extra thanks for making it spoiler free). Keep up the great work. Jordan would have been proud. ;)
Aly Sellin you should read them. They’re good enough, but they’re definitely not better than Lord of the Rings. And a comparison to Martin will show these two authors at opposite ends in the fantasy genre, even though they had a mutual respect for each other.
I read the first 8 WOT this summer, had to buy 9, 12,13 &14 . While I was waiting for them to come in I read the Lord of the Rings. Lord of the rings was very good. WOT is much better though in my opinion. Also loved the Game of Thrones series, which he'd hurry up and finish it.
I would like to see a video of your note taking process in these larger series. I am starting the wheel of time, and very quickly realized that by the time I get to the end I may have forgot important details from the beginning. A good note taking video would benefit me and probably many other readers that are a little intimidated by these longer stories. Love your content!
This video was fantastic. I balked at the time at first...but not a second wasted. Exceptionally entertaining to watch, concise and informative, and edited really really well with visuals. Subbed! I look forward to more. After this, I trust any further project to be good but I'd look forward to Lightbringer and anything cosmere. Also, more in depth WOT focused on forsaken or lineage or hidden plot lines etc could be great too. Excellent video.
@@workhard.nerdharder.3518 I do that as well depending on how my brain is functioning. I sometimes have a hard time focusing, and listening along while reading allows me to read when I'd otherwise be left in a catatonic state. I think you're going to grow tired of the audiobooks soon. The problem is with the text, not with the narrators. There's a section in the books were some characters become really pissy, the narrators have performed that part, which will infuriate you.
I’m finishing book 9 now, and so much of what this video contains now makes sense to me. I first saw this video before I started book 1, most of these things flew right over my head.
How is your reading going? I started reading the first book this April and now I am through the third book. It is taking so much time but I love the WoT world. I think I will see till the end.
There are so many great series to choose from for history and lore. You already mentioned Mistborn, Malazan, and Game of Thrones, all great. I think the Inheritance Cycle history and lore would be a fairly straight forward and fun one. Dune is also something I'd like to hear you talk about some day. Lastly, I know you don't really like KKC, but it's got some really unique and mysterious lore. Anyway, looking forward to all of it!
Well this video has definitely made me want to read this series. I often find lore videos like this are a deciding factor in drawing me into a new fictional universe, so thanks for making this dude.
Wow man!!! AMAZING VIDEO ! I'm definitely sold on reading this saga. Your love for these books permeates through my screen. Gonna read it as soon as I'm done with RoW.
Just started reading book 1, and I quickly fell in love with the Wheel of time. I can see it being a HUGE influence on my own epic fantasy series. Thanks heaps for this video!
I recently decided to watch some of your old WOT videos because of the hype on the TV show. (I've read the books before) This video was hypnotic, couldn't look away! There was a few pieces in there that I hadn't known before, so sweet!
The Tam Al’Thor Chronicles would have been a worthy prequel series. Perhaps even one written by a secondary writer in the same world, under the supervision of RJ and based on a brief outline - much in the way that the final three books were.
Think that was one of the planned spinoffs, if I recall correctly. Fairly sure Harriet said we weren't ever going to get those because there weren't enough notes, which is a pity. But then again, I don't think there could ever have been enough content written for this universe. If RJ had lived a thousand years it would only mean there were ten thousand other stories we wanted to get from him. Goddam master, I miss him.
@@DanzMcAbra right, could you imagine a collection of stories similar to the witcher books that details different Heroes of the Horn, that would be so fun

WOW, rough history. By the time the series starts humanity has already really been through it! Watching this after the Amazon series came out to gather more lore.
I actually didn't... It was as if he was trying to emphasize everything and therefore it didn't work (for me at least). But other than that: really great video!
Just seeing this video now and it's terrific! Clear explanation of the events leafing up to book 1. Finding it discouraging to know this whole scenario will be repeated till the final 7th wheel
THIS is the spoiler free version? i cant wait to begin this journey once i'm finished with the Cosmere i loooooove stuff with this much depth to dive into.
This was truly the history of the latest rotation of the Wheel. Well done! I was expecting some more cultural stuff that are relevant in the Two Rivers, but that is more current history than overarching history. The false Dragons were not mentioned and they would really drive home the point of male channelers being bad news. Could also be good to mention that under Hawkwing's rule the majority of the world was seriously doubting the intentions of the White Tower while acknowledging their use in battle against the shadow and male channelers. 2 small things I suspect would improve the ending and giving a very easy start for new readers. They'll have the prologue with the creation of Dragonmount and then the gossip from Padan Fain, the travelling peddler, would be more impactful. Was a bit surprised that Ba'alzamon was never mentioned and a few spoilers snuck in. With the way you phrased the story Ba'alzamon was able to be ignored.
Dude... fan-freaking-tastic video. I sent it to my buddy who was asking me questions about the series and I'm pretty sure I butchered it so hopefully this clears it up! lol

There is such a huge backlog to get through, and at the time there was only a young internet without resources like this. Which made the reread a daunting task. With thousands of named characters I was always lost. But I'd like to at least read 14, I feel I earned tarmon gaidon, at least.
Gotta say your love for WoT is contagious. Got EotW and will
read it after Im finished with Stormlight.
His love of this series got me to read it as well and I just started EotW today. So far I’m really enjoying it.
Lol. You convinced me and converted me. I bought the Wheel of Time. HERE GOES!
Better stick with it once you start the series. It’s a big time commitment.
Me too, I remember trying to read it when it first came out, and I just couldn't get into it. Here's hoping the second time around is better.
You won't regret it!
Amys The-Wise-One Do you keep picking up new details with every re-read or just enjoy the plot?
Wow, thank you! I was just prompted to finally start WoT by a good friend and this video has answered a ton of questions I had....sub fo life
I adore Wheel of Time! I'm going to reread it when I get a chance. Robert Jordan lived in my city and a lot of his inspiration came from our area, such as Ogier St!
Already re-reading it again! For a third time lol
This has been my favorite book series for the last 12 years
I haven't read the books, but I'm loving the Amazon show. Thank you, Daniel!
do you still like the show?
@@NoNameAtAll2 I loved it! It's not as good as HotD, but it was a million times better than Rings of Power. I am excited for season 2. I want to know what's going on with the guy following the main group in that desert city, who the devil guy is and that amazing flashback to the prior turn of the wheel, and anything with the aes sedai. My favorite characters are probably Morgaine and her ward. All the wards are fascinating. And the Amberlin Seat (I'm sure I'm spelling all of this wrong). She's the most interesting character so far, out of a lot of interesting characters.
@DLT718 unfortunately they've cut a lot from the books and added a lot of their own not so great story ideas
The Belgariad and The Mallorian series (5 books a piece) are both great series to immerse yourself into
Uncommon CoreSense I love those books! There’s something so charming and rustic about them!
Grew up with The Belgariad and just started wheel of time getting really nostalgic
i have grown with this series and you haves shown me some art that i had never seen before thank you and hopefully the show will do the series justice.
A big reason I started the series was this video, Thank you for convincing me to read it. I finished it yesterday and my god, what a ride it has been.
I'm having a horrible day (a horrible week 😞), but watching this made me feel better. Thank you for doing what you do.
Hang tough! It always gets better after the slumps
Yes just pull a Kaladin, you will get through it :D
I hope your week gets better. My son is cutting his molars, so you're not alone in having a shitty week!
man, I've read and reread the series 4 times, and i discovered a lot of things in this. thank you.
I LOVED this! I’m on my second read through of the WOT and this really helped me put the pieces of WOT history together. Thank you for putting the time and energy into this!!!
mark out the chapters for each character then re read in there perspective only its really fun :)
This will ruin the books for a lot of people
you can say whatever you want but the Wheel of Time is such an epic title for a saga
I was planning on waiting a few more weeks before starting a reread of WoT, but this inspired me. I will start the reread tonight.
This video was great, please keep doing these. I will be honest, I've never been able to get into WoT, but listening to a fan talk about them is a different way to enjoy! Thanks for making your great content and I hope your move went well.
I am re-reading this series as it has been a long time. I can’t believe how much I have forgotten but if Aragorn shows up in the tavern at Baerlon silently observing, I think I will loose my mind!
thank you for these background videos. A group of us are starting WoT this year and it's very daunting. These have been so helpful.
This convinced me to start wheel of time after I finished stormlight archive. Nice job, dude.
@@ChristmasLore just start book 1 you'll be fine
I loved this video, you helped me pull a lot of information together in a way that would have taken many, many days to get on my own. It's amazing how much you forget, even having done a reread in the last year. I have a feeling I'll come back to this video, again and again once the TV show comes out and I know where I'll refer my friends who are new to the story and want some background. Well done Daniel, I LOVED it!
This is gonna be so helpful when I finally start the series. It sounds so beautiful, can’t wait!
Also, incredible work!
Great summary of a lot of material.
Wow I watched like four minutes and stopped because I don’t want it all spoiled.
You have sold me on this series. Thanks!
really like the spoiler free WOT vids, as i'm just now starting on the second book! loving it so far!
Thank you for doing this! I have read the series 10 to 15 times, and I never understood certain things as well as you have explained them. Thanks!!
Thanks man, I love the spoiler free thing, I'm still at book 9
Keep it up. The rereads are just as good as you connect the dots.
I'm on book 9 too! This series takes for ever!
Just found your channel. I have been a big WoT fan since 1992. Love seeing everyone sharing their love!
I have to agree. Rhuidean was a huge revelation when I read it, and then later when I realized the nature of the true power.
I had been thinking about it, but this video has officially convinced me to read The Wheel of Time! Gonna go hit up my local bookstore tomorrow! I am brand new to your channel, but have been bingewatching. You and Murphy are my favs!
I just love it man...thanks! As soon as I finish reading New Spring, I was like damn I have to finish all these books.
Jordan would have been proud. ;)
I cant wait for the series on Amazon!!!! I always felt this is better than GOT and Lord of the rings . By far my favorite series!
That’s a pretty huge claim to make. And, because of your comment I’m going to start reading the books. I hope I like it.
Aly Sellin you should read them. They’re good enough, but they’re definitely not better than Lord of the Rings. And a comparison to Martin will show these two authors at opposite ends in the fantasy genre, even though they had a mutual respect for each other.
I don’t think the series will be any good at all. The last thing I read from the showrunner showed me they had no idea what the series is about.
Saw the casting choices, it will be garbage.
I love the idea of this series! Can't wait for the malazan video!
It will take a LOT of time to do right, so patience will be required but I am excited to do it!
I know it's only been six months, but you got a percentage on the Malazan mythology yet? How far along are you? Please! @@DanielGreeneReviews
I don’t know how people can comprehend the wheel of time lore. Thanks for making it clearer.
I may be 5 years behind, but I'm so happy to have found this video. Very informative and well done. Thank you!
Just finished the first book in the wheel of time series today, I wish i'd seen this first cause this is a great video!
Almost done with book 3 in less than 2 weeks. But I do audio books along with reading.
I wouldn’t have wanted to watch this before reading - it gives a little too much away.
@@Jesterian Learning about the lore with the characters is part of the fun.
This was so awesome. Helped me understand the wheel time books that I am reading sooo much better. Thanks
Dude! Well done. I wish Robert had let us know more about Tam and his role in the war.
This fantastic video almost brought me to tears.
This was awesome for someone who just started this series. Thanks.
I’m 1/3 into the first book, this helps me a lot
Lol no. No it does NOT YOU should not be watching this tbh... I wouldn’t watch this until you are finished.
@@factbeaglesarebest said 11 months later LOL
@@factbeaglesarebest i wish I had seen your comment. I'm on book 4 and heard a lot of stuff here i shouldn't know yet
@@solsar3011 the comment was for people who might currently just start reading it...
I already think WoT is fantastic (I'm on book 4) but the way you explained it makes me truly comprehend just how epic the story is. Thank you for such a great video
I am also currently on Book 4! Loving it! :D
Outstanding summary! I’ve read the series at least 5x & due to its volume, forget much in between readings. Your video was great for the history leading up to the series & referred to in the series. That had to take an extreme amount of time, great job!
This was my first epic fantasy series I “read” audiobooks is my way so I did it all in a few months constantly listing. It is truely epic. I was lucky to be so immersed rather than waiting years. Thanks to the recap.
Will you do the final empire in the mistborn series ?
I love your content!! So very helpful and fun to watch!
I'm trying to work on a rpg campaign in this universe and for those who are not familiar with the series, i always direct them to your channel and TheDustyWheel!! Keep up the AMAZING work!! Much love!!!
WOW, rough history. By the time the series starts humanity has already really been through it! Watching this after the Amazon series came out to gather more lore.
Beautifully narrated with a lovely background music. The visuals were nice too.
I like the dramatic voice - very _ominous_
I actually didn't... It was as if he was trying to emphasize everything and therefore it didn't work (for me at least).
But other than that: really great video!
Very helpful - thanks!!! The tv series is short on background I find, and its many years since I read the series.
Its crazy to think that most of the WOT cast probably saw this video when they were starting out. They all recognized him in the premiere!
Just seeing this video now and it's terrific! Clear explanation of the events leafing up to book 1. Finding it discouraging to know this whole scenario will be repeated till the final 7th wheel
So stoked for this series. Thanks for your vids Dan
That was great! Well summarized. The lore of a world is one of my favorite parts of fantasy.
Dude... fan-freaking-tastic video. I sent it to my buddy who was asking me questions about the series and I'm pretty sure I butchered it so hopefully this clears it up! lol
Is it me? Or is this probably the best booktube channel right now..
It sure is!!!
Incredible history explained. Can't wait to also see the Malazan explained. Awesome!!!!
I came here looking for lore because I'm running the table top and you good sir have delivered an amazing video I can send to my players
wow, this was higher quality than i expected.
Thank you for introducing me to this world, I'm gonna have a great time delving into the lore.
Woooo buddy I heard that Malazan! psyched for the new series, congrats on the (almost) 10k!
Great refresher. I’m now convinced. I’m going to reread WoT. This way I’ll be able to keep up with your future posts covering the new show. Thanks mate!
Currently on Knife of Dreams when I found this. so good. please do more!
This was really well done. I can see myself rewatching this from time to time whenever I feel a bit too far from WoT
Watching this as i start book 3, I don't know that spoiler free is really accurate. You might say 'no plot spoilers'? I certainly lay no blame on you, but I only got 4 minutes in before I was really bummed to have learned some of these things.
instantly goosebumps when "the breaking" starts
YES!!! best series idea ever!!!! LOVE IT! This is a great video!
@wetslice69 wet don't worry, he is one steroids
holy shit, two minutes into this and my mind is blown!! i just finished eye of the world and left it with a feeling of interest but not obsession, so i did a little youtube research and found this video. damn now i am dying to read the entire book series just to catch nuggets of information
