    Hey man, thanks for a simple explanation of how to test an ignition coil and what to look for! You have a lot of great, informative videos that will definitely help me out as I restore my 1980 CB750 on my channel!

    I know I don't comment much but I watch most of your videos. I loved the intro, I can relate, good info and keep it up.

    Love the outtakes.
    Tried firing my 98 kx250 on Friday, no spark. Tested the coil and it was out of spec by quite a bit. Used my FILs fluke as my fluke only goes to 1k ohms. Ordered parts. Hopefully this is the problem/only problem.

    Quick question. If you're doing a video for a newbie in motorcycle repair, who has just started. How are they going to know how to use the multimeter? What settings, etc? I would've gone through that. Just a thought

    Cable Guy,
    You don't have to oil volt meters...At least none I've seen before :). Nice to see your kid in a video. Hope all is well with you and your family.

    • @HTMR
      @HTMR  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, spilled oil all over the damn thing. Family is doing good, thanks for asking!

    Helpful. Thanks. I've got a no spark situation on a 69 CL 450. I checked the point gaps, plugs and made sure the battery was fully charged. Should i check the coils next?

    • @HTMR
      @HTMR  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Make sure the coil is getting voltage also.

    • @stockton350
      @stockton350 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I have spark on the right but not on the left. So i swapped the wires coming out of the points and tested again. This time i got spark on the left but not on the right. That means it's a problem with the left points or the left points wire, right? Any other possibility?

    • @HTMR
      @HTMR  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, possibly condenser as well???

    A resistance test is the least reliable test. Every veteran mechanic knows this.

    I'd add a Patreon link to your video description. I had to go to your website and click around to find it.
    Maybe also add an annotation to skip the intro, for folks who come back to refer to this one.

      Added the links, thanks.

    I thought that to ck the secondary winding you would put test leads on one of the spark plug wire connections and the other lead on one of the primary connections. In the video you were testing across both spark plug wire connections. Confused!!!

    • @HTMR
      @HTMR  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that is another test that can be performed. I did not have that info or procedure for these coils. Main point I wanted to make is the primary coil was shorted and took out some expensive components!

  • @spoom937
    @spoom937 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    So I test the outside connections an they read fine! But my actual points that connect to spark plugs weren't reading anything? Is that bad?

    • @HTMR
      @HTMR  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure meter leads touch the contact. They are deep in there.

    • @spoom937

      MatthewMCRepair Ya I made sure! That was the problem with the bike then after she fired up an ran fine....... The starter went out@

    Someone tried stealing my bike, they cut the ignition wires, iv soldered them back but cant get any spark now, i put new plugs in and tested the coils, battery and fuses are good, any ideas?

    • @HTMR
      @HTMR  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are the coils getting 12V when ignition is on?

    • @johnmulcahy9210
      @johnmulcahy9210 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HTMR I just checked now and the coils are getting only around 1 volt, would it be a bad ground wire do you think?

    • @HTMR
      @HTMR  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnmulcahy9210 Looks like a poor connection somewhere. Start backtracking on the harness. Once you hit 12v, there lies the problem.
