Hey Matt.. Good info man. Wonder if I could pick your brain a little?.. I recently ran across a 2000 KX125 my neighbor had just sitting in his basement half way restored. Engine was supposedly purchased completely rebuilt and had never even had fluids added. On first startup it fired up after like 2 kicks and sounded fine.... for about literally 8 to 10 seconds and then died. Havent been able to get it to start again. Took the carb bowl off and it looked new inside, there was fresh gas in the bowl. I cleaned the jets and put it back together but no change. The plug does have a spark and compression feels fine. Only thing I can get it to do is fire every now and then while holding the throttle wide open and the choke off. But it doesnt start. Also it seems to want to kickback sometimes.
