    just subbed to your channel, watching you do what you do helps me to work with some confidence on my 99 KX 250 2str. I was lucky enough to find the bike a few years back in original near mint cond.I have zero interest in 4 stroke dirt bikes, never have and i don't care to watch anything that includes them and treats them as equal to 2 strokes. Thank you for the videos from Ontario Canada

    Note: At about 19 minutes he says the flywheel direction: The engine turns counterclockwise when it's running. So you loosen the screws and rotate the plate clockwise to advance the timing and counterclockwise to retard the timing.

    • @gianlucamazzarini8397
      @gianlucamazzarini8397 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      IS THIS RIGHT THO? WOULDNT YOU TURN THE STATOR PLATE THE SAME WAY AS CRANKSHAFT ROTATION TO ADVANCE?

    • @2StrokeMadness.88
      @2StrokeMadness.88 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@gianlucamazzarini8397 no turning stator plate clockwise is advancing this motor in this case. advancing means detonation will happen sooner in combustion chamber. think of TDC retarding timing is moving stator plate closer to TDC. advancing will happen a few degrees off TDC. clockwise direction

    Hey Matt.. Good info man. Wonder if I could pick your brain a little?.. I recently ran across a 2000 KX125 my neighbor had just sitting in his basement half way restored. Engine was supposedly purchased completely rebuilt and had never even had fluids added. On first startup it fired up after like 2 kicks and sounded fine.... for about literally 8 to 10 seconds and then died. Havent been able to get it to start again. Took the carb bowl off and it looked new inside, there was fresh gas in the bowl. I cleaned the jets and put it back together but no change. The plug does have a spark and compression feels fine. Only thing I can get it to do is fire every now and then while holding the throttle wide open and the choke off. But it doesnt start. Also it seems to want to kickback sometimes.

Put a different new plug in, no spark. I ended up trying all combos of parts. Finally got consistent spark but the stupid thing still won’t start. I tried my spare carb which I know is good. I tried new fuel and still nothing. Appears I have plenty of spark and fuel but I have no idea where to turn now. Air filter is clean etc. Man, this is driving me absolutely nuts. See the problem I didnt know before buying the bike is, the 98-01 kx80 is more fun to ride as more powerful, the 02 -13 kx85 is same bike with different plastics powervalve 28mm carb rather than 26 for better bottom end, so the powerband isnt as violent aswell as well as bottom mid or top regardless of different sproket sizes, dont hit powerband with big old me on it in 6th our 05 85 but our 99 kx80 did lol, id say 2bhp less but still fast but not as old bikes most say about kx 80 85s.
      However the 2014 has 16.2% power increase and aswell as 2017 has 33% power increase, the bikes in betwen are same virtually same bike no changes except plastics, the 2017 has single ring piston aswell as both newer bikes 14 17 havving better powervalves, however id like to own a the older model again and or tune this one to 100cc 112 cc back in the day kx100 could be bored to 121cc but all kx100s suffered probmens as kawasaki just bored out the 80 jug and didn't accommodate anything else like porting polishing and 28mm carb, some cases they have to drill small holes into rear and front intake ports ive heard that im not a fan of lol, so advancing my sons kx85 for us both to play about on hopefully will make it more fun.
      I will be turning it to the marked positions not going any thurther, do i turn clockwise for advance timing?

      You're welcome! Beautiful family! I like George Dickel though. Smooth man! Smooth! That edit comment was meant in a good way. People tend to glassy eyed & bug out early...as I almost did. Just speed it up or edit.

    I maybe wrong but I feel like you advanced it.

      Advancing timing is turning the stator plate opposite of fly rotation. Opposite is true for retarding.

      It is land that my family owns in central Wisconsin. Started riding ATV's there when I was about 8.

    In Tennessee you can't buy hard liquor anywhere, but what some states call an ABC store, we call it liquor store. Beer should be available at any good size convenience store. I know the county is not dry. This was at start of video, so l answered your question, l hope you answer one about timing a 2 stroke.

    Totally useless video... Buy a dial indicator and do it the correct way. Factory timing marks aren't accurate.
