- Easy Red 2 is an indie game made by a small team of just a few people yet it somehow has more content than other games made by big budget studios with multibillion dollar corporations backing them...AND it just got a new update with a FREE new Pacific campaign and a new paid DLC that adds in the Battle of the Bulge and the French army as a faction.
Welcome to my review of Easy Red 2. Leave a LIKE if you enjoy and check this game out. It's currently on sale!

Today i played on the pacific maps and honestly i love how they are open and flat bc beaches irl are like that... One cool moment was when i saw a soldier lying wounded i healed him as an american medic and it turns out he is a japanese soldier... He said arigato and surrendered! No game have this cool feuture besides easy red 2!
Haha that is a freaking awesome feature. Can't say I've ever heard of that implemented anywhere else.
I like you can play as the good guys.
I want to add that this game does AI squads better than any other AI squads in any other game I have ever played. They actually fire at the enemy, they're actually valuable, they aren't fucking braindead. They don't just stand in the open for no reason when there's cover nearby, they actually take cover, sit in windows, behind sandbags, in a trench etc. They will also pick up guns from dead soldiers if they run out of ammo, and they generally just make their own decisions. Like if you aren't playing as the squad leader, the AI takes over and will order artillery strikes that actually hit the right locations, and direct the squad where to go. Your AI medic will actually revive you if he gets the opportunity. AT gunners will engage tanks. Flamethrowers will advance aggressively to the front and roast the enemy. It's absolutely beautiful. The AI is just fantastic.
It’s honestly kinda crazy how low budget indie games somehow manage to be better than most modern games. Great game suggestion and very informative 👍
Thanks for watching.
I think it's because the indie devs have work ethic and passion. It's not just about making loads of money to them.
Gameplay over profit
It's not really crazy at all. These games are created from passion just like games like halo was. Games have always been a business but the difference is that passion doesn't sell anymore
I got so confused by this video, he is ranting about AAA games and naming features that he thinks are amazing and then i look at AA or AAA games and they all have the same features.
Not to hate but its confusing to see him getting hyped about stuff modern and better looking games also have...
@@drdoomsday007Okay, tell me any game in WW2 where you have to actually input the coordinates for an artillery strike by a AA or AAA studio.
One of my favorite details of the game are the dog tags you can take from dead soldiers you either find or kill! Sometimes I'll be blazing around with my M1 Garand and yank a dog tag off a dead German and realize I just killed an 18 year old. I'm almost 21, and seeing that age makes me stop and just think, 'If I was him, I'd already be dead.' It sorta makes me reflect on how young these soldiers were, and how short a life really can be. Even if these are just AI bots, once you give them a name and an age, it humanizes them.
And whenever you get killed in game it flashes up on screen what your solder's name was and the years they lived and died, like how Battlefield 1's intro did (which I love). You actively played out the last minutes of a man who's whole life lead up to that point, and now boom, one mistake or sheer bad luck and he's dead.
It may not impact as much on others, but it certainly does on me as a history nerd. It actively shows how young men like myself fought and died in their millions, and the soldiers I played are apart of that mass slaughter. I could easily imagine myself as one of those men, joining with bright youthfulness and naivety only to be killed in Normandy, Stalingrad, Guadalcanal, Monte Cassino, any part of the war. And the game ties that in rather well. War is Hell.
Hear me out, what if the names are ACTUAL names from people who died? Someone should ask the developer…
As a long time player you forgot to mention how to revive both wounded allies and enemies you drag them behind cover or risk getting shot yourself. A very realistic feature.
Also the fact in this game you can take prisoners some virtually no game does at all. If you are surrounded by enemies your character will surrender on their own which is cool.
And the third thing is how you can take not just weapons and ammo but full on uniforms from dead enemies and allies. This means in multi-player you can ecieve enemy players by dressing as one of them and sabotaging them before they realize you ain't one of them. A feature not seen since commandos strike force on the ps2
Battlefield V, a game made by a billion-dollar publisher with a bloated budget: markets being able to drag wounded allies in all its initial trailers, says it will come post-launch, continues to say it's coming for months before finally scrapping the concept due to "no tech."
Easy Red 2, a game made by a small team on a shoestring budget: oh yeah no problem.
Hell, you can even recapture an ally that surrendered
Easy Red’s strength is the fact it doesn’t focus so much on one thing and forget others. It does most things “good enough” and doesn’t try to oversell a certain feature. But as you said, it can be fairly janky at times. It reminds me of the older shooter sandbox games of the early 2000s and has a certain charm to it. The ability to take POWs (or not 😳) is also a really cool feature.
Yes I agree. It's a fun little game that isn't too expensive but yeah the clunkiness can be its downfall sometimes.
This is actually great, i was getting tired of the infinite wave of "Realistic Milsim WW2 Simulators" i just miss the more arcadey vibe of the early 2000s multiplayer WW2 games.
I actually appreciate they included the Pacific Campaign, despite being such an important part of the conflict it's not often depicted in media as the western front was, nice review bro.
Thanks for watching!
Yes, me too. I don't get why every WWII shooter has to be a simulator. It automatically turns me off
No offence my friend but in recent years there has only been 3 prominent ww2 “mil sims” (hell let loose, post scriptum and red orchestra2/rising storm) in the last 10 years and really only Post Scriptum(now called squad 44) is a mil sim, hardly an infinite wave 😂
@@histhoryk2648I don’t know for me I found the realism refreshing after most of my life playing bombastic off the wall ww2 games.
@@nate-otero it feels like an infinite wave because larpers never shut up about them

@@eldo5023 I tried it. It seemed like it could be fun but I'm not going through that insane grind just to get from equipment from the 30's to the classics.
Yeah man. Easy Red 2 is basically what I always wanted out of Battlefield 1942. I've been playing it since early 2021 and just bought it on a whim, but I've been hooked since and I've seen how much progress has gone into this game. Marco (the developer) is planning to revamp the AI in 2024 and also the Kos map. So that it won't feel as open ended and sparse. Also, I don't know anything about Italy's laws regarding the swastika, but the developer Marco is Italian and I think he lives in Italy, so maybe he had to censor it due to some sort of law? Similiar to Germany. Idk. That seems like something that would happen in an ex-Axis member country.
Also I don't think you mentioned the workshop support!! This alone is why I can't stop playing Easy Red 2. Some of the modded maps and campaigns are actually better than the ones created by the developer! I'd say that Utweiler, Germany is probably my favorite modded map so far. It basically features a large scale U.S. offensive to take the town with armor and mortar support. You can absolutely level the town, but once you take it there is a twist with a massive German counter offensive including a particularly tough Tiger 1 which absolutely wrecks. I think last time I played the map it took 3 Shermans to take out. Felt like something out of old school Call of Duty. But yeah the mods are definitely what keeps it alive as you basically have unlimited content.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I did forget to mention workshop. I kinda made this video in crunch time. I'm super busy right now and made 2 videos this week one of which is set up to go live next week.
If you want, one player has created a Market Garden map with several missions.
Another with the Battle of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. And yet another with the Battle of Tobruk.
@@PierreMiramont-x4r That sounds cool.
@@crimson6397 yes in Italy you cannot expose symbol of "nazi-fascism" otherwise you can be sued pretty easily, same goes for gestures and so on. Of course actual fascists are never takrn to court but swastica in game? Hell nah
This is unironically one of the best shooters on the market, it’s is like every single good fps like Verdun and enlisted and combined into a beautiful amalgamation while getting rid of the negative elements. The devs also have a Mac port, which is incredible as there are basically no shooters for Mac.
I think there's gonna be an Xbox release as well
@@RandomFurry07 It already came out! It also has crossplay too I think!
This game looks like a hybrid of Hell Let Loose couple switch the retro shooter vibes of early Call Of Duty games (Big Red One, CoD 2 and 3 etc) which was the.golden period of my childhood. Looks worth picking up
In the case of regional differences involving the Manji being replaced by the Iron Cross, that was true in Germany up until a few years ago, when it was decided by lawmakers that video games are a form of art, which means they can have something many Germans consider offensive and be protected by law. Thing is, that happened just months after the release of Wolfenstein II The New Colossus.
True but you left out half of the story. You still have to apply for a "test" at your own cost at the respective German "youth protection" institution and they will decide whether the symbol serves historical purposes or is part of an artwork or it is just an exploitation.
You can just not do that but risk getting your game banned in Germany.
Hence, the cheaper version is to just not show the symbol.
Remember, game is also on Switch. I don't know but I guess they can't show it otherwise the game could be delisted by Nintendo
@histhoryk2648 I know, but that doesn't explain why a Manji wouldn't be shown in the PC version. Keep in mind, he said it wasn't in the PC version, not just the Switch version.
It is not just Germany. Other countries where it is outright banned or otherwise restricted in its use are numerous, meaning that you should indeed use an alternative symbol, such as the Iron Cross or Balkenkreuz in order to avoid any such issues.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bans_on_Nazi_symbols
Been having a ball with this game. Didn't know it existed until last week and it's exactly the sort of modernised BF1942 I've always wanted (and even has a sort of NPC swapping featire like the in the console version of BF2!).
Two downsides not mentioned in the video that could (and hopefully will!) Be addressed by the dev:
1) The UI is atrocious. Plain text with super awkward justification over transparent grey rectangles for the most part. It would do wonders if the dev contracted a UX person to come and clean things up, because it really brings down the presentation a lot and makes it feel cheaper than it should.
2) Zero context or historical descriptions. It would be nice if the campaigns had at least a little paragraph explaining what's going on and who's involved. Even better would be briefings for each mission. Just the barest of context like in BF1942 wpuld make the experience more coherent and a tiny bit educational.
(Bonus extra - let me pilot ships like in BF1942! Let me ram aircraft carriers into each other you cowards!)
All the postives mentioned in the video far outweigh the negatives though. It's a lovely game that picks up a torch that's been dropped for far too long.
A good game that costs a couple dollars where you can commit war crimes and everything!
Its my favourite single player shooter and the fallout style gameplay mechanics make it even more addictive in my opinion
Hey man really love the review you made for this game. I have been following and playing this game since 2021 and the game now is almost unrecognidable to what it was before. This is also my all time favorate ww2 game and there is much more to come including the upcoming xbox release, map reworks and more 😎
Thanks for watching. Yeah I just got into it myself its pretty amazing.
PSA: Marco is releasing a patch where players can display 'sensitive content' in the game. That means we get swastikas boys! The patch is currently in beta and only available on Steam. Once it clears it'll release to consoles, as console players receive the same updates as PC players.
Update: The patch enabling the swastika is out on PC! It will take ten to fifteen days for Xbox/Nintendo to review it before it gets released to console players.
Ive been really wanting to play a single player ww2 game thats not cod or moh. I think im going to buy this on sale.
I know alot of fps games on Steam are on sale right now. Not sure if this is though but good chance of it.
Fun fact, that red Italian hand grenade, the SRCM Mod. 35, was one of the most feared hand grenades in WWII, it was nicknamed as the "Red Devil" by the allies
Why was it so feared?
@@BrokenCircle1
It wasn't feared by the enemy, rather feared by the allies and the Italians for its malfunctions
From Wikipedia: In the SCRM 35 Italian ordnance designers created a compact grenade that was designed to explode on impact, but it also gained a reputation for being spectacularly dangerous. The Red Devil earned its nickname for two reasons- the Italian ordnance colour code for High Explosive was red and when Allies found the grenades unexploded, they sometimes had the habit of going off after the fact.
I haven’t played a lot of WW2 games so I’m just going to list CoD WoW as the best WW2 game I’ve played. In addition to Zombie mode my favorite thing was how half of the game focuses on the Pacific Theater. Too bad more games don’t focus on that aspect of the war. There’s plenty of stories that can be adapted into some cool campaigns.
Definitely impressed by the game, even as a guy that's not a big WW2 nut (so some of the details can go over my head). It was a little jarring to see some of those more simulated aspects (like a minimal HUD with no ammo counters), but that's more a symptom of me not playing simulation games as often and simply needing to adjust. Maybe they could keep it more generalized like they are in the inventory with "mostly full" and stuff. I just hope they don't push the mil-sim aspect too hard and make it Arma WW2.
I do like that you can play as both factions for battles as well, to get an idea of what it was like for both sides. Though it is a shame that *that flag* isn't present for the Germans despite this aiming for realism, even more odd since as stated before, you can even play as them and get immersed in their side of things but that censorship is still present. I'm not suddenly going to become a sympathizer upon seeing it or something, and the iron cross as a stand-in would by proxy hold the same meaning anyways.
Thanks for watching!
I was thinking, as you were talking about your major gripe at the end. I completely agree👌 and also hate it when currently in World War II media and games choose to censor the “infamous symbol”. I was wondering though if someone could make a mod that adds in the correct flag and adds the symbols back to the German uniforms, if that would be possible? Therefore it wouldn’t affect different regions of the world that aren’t allowed to show that symbol.
I already checked. I didn't see any mods like that. Would be cool if someone added it though.
Thanks for watching.
Society trying to delete history so can act like evil without past evidence lol
See my more detailed answer to BaxterAndLunala below. I don't like it either but it is not that the devs "chose" to "censor" the symbol but they basically have to do it to be in accordance with the German law or risk getting their game banned.
@@sunbather1576 the game have already the distort flag, a suggest can be to add an option to hide or show element that can may disturb the audience.
Btw German law is ridicolous, in my country you can still find some mussolini statue and we all agree that is for remind to us dark pages of our history
About the paid DLC's. I brought the game just for Stalingrad DLC. While buildings are ok at most representing a real one in USSR they sometimes mashed together creating a windows or doors that blocked by a wall of other building since assets are just put beside each other. Another one is already mentioned voice acting. In Stalingrad DLC voices indicate what happend and if you got hit or enemy and sometimes soviet soldiers will scream that they got shot after hitting an enemy. It's not much problem for people that don't speak russian but it can be confusing hear it and find that you ok. I'm not sure if this problem exist in other factions languages. But in overall yeah, it's still enjoyable.
I did not know that about the voices.
It has been reworked
Imagine these devs with the budget of cod or Bf, could bebthe best war game ever created ever
Great video! I love to see that this game is finally getting the proper attention is deserves.
I looked at your complaints at around the 8 minute mark and i can pretty happily say that the campaign problem is actually being worked on as of now, and for the other problems: the American voices just suck, not defending it but its likely not going to change sadly.
The nazi symbols: the main dev for this game is from Italy so it could either be banned, has had bad family experiences with it, or simply just feels uncomfortable adding the proper things into the game, this was in easy red 1 (2017) aswell and there was even a message on the discord server where he said that nazi symbols like the SS symbols will not be added or associated with the getmans in game
Just got it today because it showed up in my Xbox recommended, this is an extremely underrated title, and I think that this is what all World War II game should aspire to be, realistic, and faithful to the source material of history, for such a small dive team they’re doing a fantastic job and if I could recommend this game more than five stars, it would be 100 stars
Thank you so much for covering my favorite WW2 game

Chile) It's literally, the best Ww2 game that you can buy right now
I like what you said at the end about the Swastika, CoD had done it in at least one of their WW2 games but they had them in the campaign... my issue is that you should want historic games about real events to be historically accurate.
Unfortunate you didn’t bring up the insanely cool workshop if your not into ww2 this game has a load of modern mods and other war mods
This looks like Star Wars battlefront in WW2 an automatic buy with the dlc

Just an under rated jem. Weather u wanna be a captin, sniper, tank commander or even a kamikaze it all plays so well. Wish devs would do what Blackmill did with Isanzo so can get more players n the love it deserves.

This is one of the most fun games I've played in years, makes me feel like a kid again. The game also has a very active modding community on steam adding hours of replayability, thanks to map creators like Ramp and Sentry.
I haven't gone too far playing the mods myself but I will say it certainly is active.

Will this game finally fill that hole in my heart that Heroes & Generals left?
Yes it should, I miss that game dearly too and now I play this. I like it better than enlisted as well.
Easy Red is better than most shooters out there right now and its not very expensive. You can fly planes, drive tanks and the best part about it, its an open world sandbox game. We need more games like this. I give Easy Red 10 stars.
I can't wait for the modding community to pop off, with whatever fun stuff they can think of!
My wish being fictional factions, as being restricted to accurate WW2 representation gets a little boring when one has the better equipment or position at times (I wonder how fun it would be to play as the Ravens and Eagles from Ravenfield?)
Or I'm just nitpicking, as I'm still having an absolute blast, even with the Italy campaign (highly recommend starting with pilot, to go destroy the nearest ship that is providing artillery to your enemy. Then going with Tankers whenever they become available)
Great video man i heard that they were going to rework some of the old free campains don't know when tho

The American voice lines almost seem like a joke. I laughed quite a bit the first time I heard it.
Yeah this game is pretty good for the price I wouldn't say it's super realistic as if you play with the ai they are kinda dumb and all funnel around the point but other than that it's pretty good better ai then it would be so much better but easy 7/10.
Absolutely love this game as I work away a lot in remote areas in Aus so this is my go-to laptop game to play single player

Honestly I looked at this game for two minutes and I can already tell I love it just watching the trailer it’s actually my dream game you can really tell it was made by someone who actually cared for what they were making I can’t begin to tell you how long I’ve waited for a game that cares more about gameplay than fancy graphics this appears to be that so many features I and others have been wanting for years are in this game e.g. destruction, medical system, map making, playing as ALL factions not just one it’s simple stuff really but when it’s done right and put together it makes the game so much better than their soulless triple a counterparts already on my wish list almost certainly gonna get it.
The community has been very vocal with the game since it launched on PC in 2020 so the dev has constantly made the game better everyday. The gameplay loop is also very addictive.
