The reason a lot of these places are in really bad states is not because of the British. The British, although they did take advantage of their colonies, left these places with fully working administrations and highly advanced infrastructure. Look at Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, Canada etc. They are some of the most successful countries in the world, thanks to the British. Places like India and a lot of African countries are in the state they’re in because of their own governments.
You have to remember there were other narions with empire expanqion during most of British Empire lands were given as spoils of war. The ONLY empire where ex conolies joined a political union in the Commonwealth. These nations still friendly with Britain. Even with all the history Britain is more good empire than bad. For example the French empire was total slavery and not liked even after France left nations. Egypt for example was run by Nepolian and murdered many Egyptians to rule them. In contrast a Britain ran Egypt and left it in a good state and friends to that nation still. Britain was the worlds policeman and inventor and discovered more than any other nation by 3x. Britian world power was for good. It shaped the world today and placed democracy in more places than any other nation has ever done. Even today the UN has a wall dedicated to British bill of Rights 1681. Its the foundation to ALL HUMAN RIGHTS. The document is the foundation of the US and EU constitutions. Britian dragged man out of the caves and lead him for 400 years.
Hong Kong is the PERFECT example of how the British (UK) had 'run' a place 'smoothly' for 156 YEARS! But after reverting to 'Chinese sovereignty' in 1997, its now in total turmoil with regards to democracy and suppression of free will. It now has 'limited autonomy' from mainland China and ANY sign of the general public disagreeing with China is quickly quashed and people arrested, jailed and with no proper recourse to law... So YOU decide who has provided the better option!? Just saying.
After they shipped three and a half million Africans across the Atlantic as slaves. And I finally stopped beating my wife after 10 years. I'm the greatest, aren't I?
Yeah they did, therefore any African descendent who claims for representations better give reparations to sailors families who died ending slavery as it was Africans selling their own people
They stopped a lot of slave trading, particularly across the Atlantic and Indian Ocean. Slavery is still as popular in some African countries and elsewhere.
The world owes the British for the abolition of slavery and hundreds of not thousands of inventions .The crimes of the British Empire are greatly outweighed by the benefits .
Not to mention, many of these countries, such as what is now Zimbabwe, asked us to help eradicate a violent group. In Zimbabwe, the 3 Kings asked us to help. Madagascar, we went in to eradicate the Arab slave trade. And there were no financial incentives and trade opportunities, both cost us a lot of money and lives, we went simply to help.
Every country the British have ever invaded were made better whilst in British control, it's not our fault that they managed to mess things up after getting independence
Everyone has been invading everyone for as long as there have been people. The English were just better at it than anyone else. The Mongols, Chinese and Arabs are also high up on the list.
white people is some shit americans made up too lol. Go tell irish and english people theyre the same 🤣🤣🤣 go tell a irish person who grew up during the troubles they have 'white privaldge'
-ended slavery across the globe -ended widow burning in India -brought basic human rights -brought rights for women on top of it -fought multiple dictators -responsible for around 90% of technological, medical, and scientific advancements from 1800 to 2000 -gave all of it to the world for free -built railways and infrastructure everywhere it went -largest increase in life expectancy in history (India was 25 on arrival, 33 went it left) -gave parliamentary democracy to everyone -increased literacy and education -stopped child prostitution -reduced deaths during famines -had countries fight to stay part of the empire (still happening today just look at the chagos islands) -only place to have a country ask to be annexed and made British (Malta) -kept relative world peace for 100 years (Pax Britannica) -has the commonwealth, ex empire countries who want to keep good relations with britain, some of which are now ex colonies of other countries too thats just off the top of my head. so all i have to say is, what god complex? there is no complex, its accurate to say.
@@GdzieJestNemo Gave the world the English language that is spoken as the common language for diplomacy, trade, navigation and just general communication just about everywhere you go!
As a person who grew up in one of the African countries the British controlled I can confirm that we were much better off before our independence. In fact our country, economy and the general quality of living all plummeted after we gained independence. I even moved to the UK and it's the best decision I have ever made!
How is he trolling, this is true and said by nearly every country. And thinking that the british never braught any good. Excuse me before any of this nobody had clean drinking water, nobody had anti biotics, nobody had antiseptics, nobody had electricity, nobody had mass transport, nobody had selected breeding for better farming, nobody had glass, portland cement, tarmac roads, economy. And most of these countries mentioned did not even EXIST they were created after the post colonial periods so the video is kind of dishonest in a way. Also alot of the conquests revolved around stamping out slavery in those areas. Most people th ink slavery and colonialism happened at the same time but it did not. The trans atlantic slave trade had already ended.... guess how? by britain. So i think people really stop being mind controlled by lefty propoganda and actually study a bit of real history. Im not excusing the bad things that may have happened but to not pretend it was a net positive is a lie. Literally go look at the economic standing of the countries that britain had influence in versus the ones that they didnt and you will see a stark difference. But hey..... you won't.
"why didn't UK make them a better place ?" Well. For one the UK did indeed improve the lives of the population. And secondly, the UK has no responsibility to a country after that country gains independence."
Its incredible how they think a tiny island just went in with an army and started taking over things, its such a childish mindset. People WANTED the aid of the british empire, they wanted clean water, sanitation, vaccines, anti biotics, trains, electral infrastructure, protected trading routes etc i swear americans especially just have absolutely no idea how the world works, they cant comprehend real struggle where the aid of the british was 1000000x better than suffering under authoritarian and dicatatorial regimes.
@@AdeboFunkyVoodoo thank you for those well thought out and detailed replies. It is obvious you put a lot of time and effort into those replies, you have done your educators proud.
Yeah what a ridiculous statement that was. That speaks to huge lack of world history education in the US. Jeez, for a country that was caught by surprise with an attack on Pearl Harbour, two years into a world war that’s saying something 😂 As for the “God complex” statement, if there’s one country in the modern world that suffers from that it’s the US. The US is so insular when it comes to world history education. Yes the empire did some bad stuff but the good stuff it did massively outweighs the bad. We brought Railroads, clean water, medicines, education, and much much more to many of these third world countries. I also don’t think they were listening and taking in that many of the “invasions” were not aggressive invasions, they were in retaliation at hostilities to Britain.
@ yep absolutely spot on and could not agree more with everything you’ve said there. They certainly didn’t do much to dispel the myth of most Yanks being uneducated, insular, and arrogant.
Ridiculous all the heavy lifting on the western front was done by the British and the Soviets did it all on the Eastern front, not to say the US didn't play their part but they are taught that it was so much greater than it really was
England enrichened just about every countrythat we invaded. We put in Railway systems, education systems, democratic governments trading as well. Why do you think that so many countries of the old British empire are now freely members of theBritish commonwealth.
Also, lots of other white people had empires - the French, the Belgians, the Dutch, the Spanish, the Germans, the Italians. Why do you only mention the British?
8:50 The British empire literally came to an end because of the 2 world wars. The British pulled out of many countries they controlled and ruled, they gained absolutely nothing of benefit from either of the wars and all it did was result in the fall of their Empire
Exactly it was coincidentally the USA that benefited from ww2 by sitting on its arse and collected the money Britain was paying them for food and arms while keeping the Germans at bay as the rest of western Europe fell, only when they where directly attacked did they decide to get up off their ass
They DID make them a better place. These were not lands of milk and honey. Mostly is was war lords, lawlessness, slavery, poverty and unjustice on an unimaginable scale. In india burning women alive was normal. The British brought industrial and agricultural revolutions, law and order, trial by jury, local democracy and later national democracy. The reason they were so successful was that they were far better than the systems they replaced. An army of about 100,000 does not conquer and hold most of the world for centuries without consent. If you go back to the 1970's when much of the world was under dictatorships, nearly every democracy outside europe was an ex british colony, there were a few exceptions such as Japan which modelled its democracy on the British system. You say it was a bad thing, but the industialised democratic world with an independent law and order system and modern human rights is down to the British. People say they do not know what British culture is, my answer is that fish do not see the water they swim in. Think of any aspect of your life from physics, to manufactured objects, to vaccines to surface of the road, you can trace the history of almost every part of it back to Britain, even the machines which wove your clothes. Exceptions like the Diesel engine are rare, but even then pistons, piston rings and other parts required to make it... British.
Why assume it was damaging when today there are 56 countries in the British Commonwealth, all want to be there. The countries around the world that are first world countries were ones colonised by the British. English is spoken in almost every country in the world, (not as a first language but used). Roads bridges trains schools hospitals ships etc all brought by Britain to these countries and still in use today. We have a 20th century idea of what colonisation is and today America is biggest coloniser. All major civilisations colonised mostly by invasion and conquer, that was how the world was run. We just did it better than anyone else! Tiny little island, massive balls!! 😅🇬🇧
@@Stuboy? They had no technology, they were like 1000 years behind and there was only a couple million of them. They weren't going to invent the technology Britian invented anytime soon. Fortunately I personally have met some indigenous Americans at university in the UK who hopefully can go on to do amazing things.
@@Stuboy The indigenous people of what is now the United States did not have a single word for the area because of the many different languages spoken by the tribes. However, they did refer to the land in various ways, including: "The Mature Land, "The Land of Vital Blood, "The Land that Provides and "Turtle Island" So it wouldn't exist and i Highly doubt that they would of called it the United States of America and I'm from Wales UK
The difference between us Brits and USA is we don't turn up to wars at the end rich Americans saying god complex when USA think they police the whole world😂😂
This is a weird channel for various reasons. Firstly there is nothing about our British history that we are proud about concerning wars. Yes we do feel proud about bringing a civilized and democracy to countries like India and Africa that were just wild west before we colonized them. There is no shame in bringing the rule of law, parliamentary democracy, trial by jury when prior to that only savagery existed. Yet teaching the basics of human decency seems to be seen as a bad thing the British have done. I will never ever understand that thinking. What national sport would India have now without the British introducing Cricket to them? They would have NOTHING! I also find this channel weird because it constantly likes to add little digs and insults when commenting. You know, the passive aggressive type of thing. Unable to give any credit without a little backhanded dig being added. Also if you want an example of what good Britain did when they held the reigns of power just look at Hong Kong! The last place Britian democratized and handed back. I don't think there is a single person in Hong Kong who wouldn't take Britain back as their protectorate now they have experienced Chinese communism taking the place of British democracy. They have literally rioted on the streets to try and maintain their democratic freedoms. Unsucessfully. So politely F**k you when you fail to understand all the good Britian TRIED to establish.
True. We have a lot to be proud of considering many of our inventions, infrastructure, laws, culture, traditions and language were so good and so useful that they were passed down from generation to generation and many countries around the globe still use it to this day. Sure, we've done a lot of bad things also. But that doesn't diminish all of the good our country has brought.

@@bigfisher4354 mate literally all of these were part of the british empire before ww2, can you not read. Also the falklands islands and grabraltar VOTED TO REMAIN BECAUSE THEY ARE BRITISH. lol
Mostly because the Empire was in decline, Britain was broke and largely saw it's future wealth as coming from Africa and a few of it's Asian territories. So yes, it didn't retain territory gained but not out of some moral principle. But because like a business that has over expanded, it needed to consolidate and focus it's efforts, on its most profitable outlets.
So many of those "invasions" were combined Allies operations against the Nazis & the Japanese Empire during WW2 & against the Austro-Hungarian (German) Empire during WW1. Other "invasions" were counter offensives in collaboration with other European countries against Napoleon who was trying to conquer Europe. France, Spain, Germany & other countries were invading countries during the period of colonisation. Many of the countries colonised by nations other than Britain faired very poorly. The USA, Canada, Australia & New Zealand are advanced democratic countries due to the British systems they adopted while being administered by the British.
18:06 - '...to do this much damage to the world' - lol pardon? What damage? None of these places were liberal democracies, they were dictatorships where the population was ruled with extreme violence and where 99% of the population had no rights. The only reason any of these places have democracy and human rights today is because of the british, including the biggest democracy in history, India, and the second biggest, the USA. The reason you are able to sit on that couch and say what you want to the world without fear of the government putting you in jail is BECAUSE of the the British. Try thanking them, perhaps?
Just to clarify, at the start, The Six Kingdoms of Ireland were invaded because for the best part of a century their kings had been sending raiding parties to sack English coastal ports, killing all the inhabitants of the towns they raided. Eventually our king had enough of that, so we took all Six Kingdoms and unified them into Ireland (the state). That's right, we created the state of Ireland, and the Irish people... and they've never forgiven us.
Context is everything and he has no distinction between defense, coalition, support or UN peacekeeping. Whilst we were doing all this we have ENDING SLAVERY on our resume. Yes, the UK stopped European/Asian and American slavery, not with the help of the US that tries to pretend they stopped it, but we FORCED counties to stop.
The US never pretended to have stopped slavery. In fact, if you read their 13th amendment it's still legal to this day. Which is hilarious, because even when trying to end slavery they couldn't bring themselves to end slavery. They may have shifted the targets from black people to criminals, and the ownership shifted from private to federal, but if you read between the lines (e.g. mandatory minimums) and listen to John Ehrlichman it's still, in effect, enslavement of black people.
In a cheeky aside, the British and it's empire are the reason why all the fine sports we invented, are global...football, cricket ,rugby, tiddle winks...whilst all those 'American sports' American Football, Netbal...er I mean Basketball and rounders are played in...America.
We didn’t invent those sports. We Codified the rules under which all these sports are now played. American Football came from rugby and Netball and Basketball have their descendants from games played in England. Baseball comes from Stool-Ball played here in England.
@@martinrye712 The “game” of hockey has been around for centuries. Sometimes it has been played on ice. The “sport” of hockey was started in 1871 with its full rules codified in 1886. Reports of hockey being played on ice are as early as the 1850’s
'Invasion' is an invasive term to describe what the British accomplished by a whole range of different strategies to make a tiny, isolated country a success on a world scale. Our army, in peace time, never numbered more than 250,000...& most of those were spread around in small numbers.
Speaking French? Are you saying that, if left unchecked and not defeated at Waterloo, Napoleon would have taken over the world? Or that Louisiana (ruled by the French) would have invaded over their western border? Because Brian and Lynda are based in Texas, which likely would have remained Mexican without America's expansion west, so they'd be speaking Spanish in this alternate reality.
@@hughtube5154 north america was mainly Britain vs france. the areas taken by the new USA had 20,000 spanish and less than 5,000 french. there were in the millions of British nationals. if Britain never bothered, then france would have taken all north america (USA and canada) there were 70,000 french in canada before independence, so almost 4x the spanish in the USA. lastly, look at a map of colonial empires during the world wars. the two most dominant are Britin and france. not Britain and spain.
The British changed for the good a lot of countries ...remember they invented everything we know today in fact theres a video telling u all this ....for example built the railway in india
This shooting is partly caused by the extreme version of capitalism that exists in the USA. The greed and the me, me, me attitude is embodied in the lobbying system. You will never have change until the system changes. As for the video, as a Brit i have mixed feelings about the countries that we controlled. We did leave them with newer technology and more literacy and more organised government, (maybe). However, we also banned the native customs and language and in some cases enslaved the population.
NONE of the countries that have been established for centuries before the invasion specifically in Africa and Asia were left better off during the invasion or after. They were ruled for Britain benefit and that was the end of that.
18:04 Wasn't just white people. The British Empire recruited or worked with natives in many locations. You see Britain wasn't actually that huge of a military Empire (not really a surprise if you consider the size of Britain). European nations like France and Prussia far outstripped Britain in terms of army size. The British Empire was more of a trading Empire. Britain obtained a huge amount of its land through politics, trade and using its expert navy to deprive other nations of trade. Local rulers aligned themselves with Britain because they saw profit, or they sought to use the British Empire to deal with their opponents or for protection against Pirates, Bandits and neighbouring nations. Not to say the Empire didn't invade countries with military force also. I'm just saying that's not the whole story.
12:50 Jamaica along with a lot of others still is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations and King Charles III is its head of state. 15:45 You didn't know that Canada was a British colony????? Again, Canada still is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations and, again, King Charles III is Canada's head of state.
Parliamentary democracy, railway systems, a politically independent judiciary and the end of slavery, we did what we could to make the world a better place. (Your understanding of the Second World War is extremely suspect!).
They were made better by establishing parliamentary democracy and trial by jury. And we do have a hobby - travel :-) Also, don't forget we were invaded indefinitely in 1066. They never left. Every invasion since the 90s is because the Americans were trying to steal oil from the Middle East and we were dragged in.
A very one sided view; as Britain gave its colonies football, rugby, cricket, netball, the English language, democracy and railways. [This sentence is not supposed to be taken seriously.]
I think the post I was in the process of replying to was modded out of existence - but it's still worth posting dealing as it does with the notion that the clip just amounts to lies & propaganda - reads as follows ..... Educate us O Great Sage - not a lot of room in a fifteen minute clip for a great deal of nuance but this seems very accurate based on what I already know - that's facts not smug boasts - & opposed to whatever disgruntled manufactured-outrage BS you're about to feed us. The Empire was all about trade - & I'm not about to excuse the crimes committed along the way which were myriad & egregious - but when we handed control back to the indigenous peoples we left all the roads, bridges, railways, irrigation systems, ports, system of government, independent judiciary etc intact & in place. Now slay me with your intellect.
Every country Britain invaded was improved with governments, transport links, trading links, schools, education rules and much much more... The fact that are in a bad state now are because of their current government's since once they gained independence the British have no say or option to help out unless they stayed part of the commonwealth.
It's a bit funny that after reacting to so many videos your understanding and ability to look at things from different points of view remains so shallow.
"The moon was never gonna be part of the British Empire. There was nothing there in the way of hot and spicy food, or Olympic quality athletes." - Al Murray, the pub landlord.
Your question as to whether the UK took advantage of their position after the war. From what I can gather they didn't. I believe that was the start of the empire giving countries their independence.
I think an important part missed in the Video is England was conquered by the Normans from France in 1066, The Normans retained their lands in France and added to them When King Henry II married Eleanor of Aquitane with the provinces of Anjou and Aquitane. The French King saw himself as the superior king over the English throne which is why all the fighting between the English and French started, so over 500 years France ejected the English from France. BUT after the 17th century a lot of these invasions became about extracting raw materials for the industrial age, oh and he really missed the part where Britain tried to force China to Import Opium in the late 19th century. Nearly all these conquests were for resources. Spain, Britain, France, The Netherlands and Portugal all went to the Americas looking for gold and they all hired privateers in the Caribbean to steel the other countries shipments.
5:50 The Romans were largely an army-based military power, the British were largely naval-based. It's easier to get around by ship when 2/3s of the world is water. Plus, the gap in military technology between Britain vs the rest of the world compared to Rome vs the rest of the world favours the British. Romans brought short swords and wall shields against enemies using spears / claymores / swords etc. Britain took cannons and rifles. 15:19 the South African accent is probably more influenced by the Dutch (Boers, speaking Afrikaans), though the laguage is English. 18:16 Various reasons. Mainly resource acquisition (all of Africa, India, Canada, the Caribbean), religious obligation (aka the Crusades, invading Asia minor and the middle east), strategic denial to the enemy (esp in in the World Wars - Africa, the Scandinavians, Belgium, Italy, Turkey), to secure a trade route (Singapore, Egypt), dragged in by allies / treaties of protection (Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, all of WW1 and WW2), familial inheritance (Royals following the Norman Conquest of Britain in 1066 often launched invasions into France to reclaim the family territory.) 63 countries may celebrate their independence from Britain, but how many of those wanted back in to the Commonwealth so they could continue to enjoy the benefits, though under their own governments?
In fact, the 114 years war between France and England is in fact a civil war between the French, who had invaded England almost 3 centuries ago. As such, Richard the Lionheart did not speak a word of French and preferred to go to war to be bored in England. Ultimately, it was the Valois royal dynasty that crushed the English in France, and so the English elite chose the language of the Saxon farmers as their primary language out of spite. It was also because ruined England no longer had any economic outlets in Europe (vs. Habsburgs and Capetians), that they turned to the navy to colonize those more miserable than themselves. And finally, the English language is just poorly pronounced French, haha that's what we like to say in France, a country that has won more wars than any other in the world. signed: the French troll on duty
Richard Lionhearts languace was french-normannic and he was only in England about 8 months in his 10 years as king. Apart from crusade and captivity, he was in France, defending his land in France (Normandy and Aquitania) against the french.
Dude, you literally have a national institute (Academy Francais) that protects your language from being overridden by English. And even then you guys say "weekend", "parking", "pit-stop".

Newfoundland was an Independent Nation from the start of the 20th century through 1949 with its own central government. It wasn't a British ruled territory when they joined Confederation and was twice granted its independence ruling for a total 76 years with it's own flag, National anthem, central government, currency and constitution. Newfoundland came within a percentage point of becoming an American state when they held the Historic vote America was on the first ballot however they were removed from the second and final ballot which was between Canada or Independence and NFLD of course chose Canada over staying a Republic.
No, the Anglo-Dutch wars, without invasions by the British as the video wrongly states, were because the Dutch traded with everyone and the British couldn't compete in free trade so they attacked Dutch merchant ships.
We did make them a better place,it was when the British left it turned bad.try and read a book or two about the country we left before you judge how we left them.

The Roman Empire had the 25th biggest empire by land mass (Conquered Territory). Russia Alone, has more Square Kilometers than the whole of the conquered lands of the Roman Empire.
The 1800s was the most peacful century in history despite the early Napoleonic War and the US Civil War. This was because of the Pax Britannica which was enforced by the Royal Navy
Quick size lesson here. USA Alone covers 1.87% of the Worlds land. Roman Empire covered just under 4% of the World land at their height. Yeah... think we out did the Roman's a bit with 25%
Most of the countries that the British took over were either from defeating another European country or by economic means. India became part of the British Empire in 1857 taking it from the East India Company who had ruled it for many years beforehand.
In those days England had the biggest navy in the world that's how we the english invaded 90% of the world. If it wasn't for us English with our thousands of our inventions & industrial contributions everybody still be living in the bronze age. Watch on TH-cam (what did the english ever do for us)
*Iron Age. Britain's contribution to the world ushered in the INDUSTRIAL Age and (along with the USA) helped bring about the INFORMATION Age. The world had already climbed out of the Stone Age and Bronze Age without Britain's help, leaving it in the Iron Age.
If one country ruled the whole world would there be world peace. First the country would need to be draconian giving freedom to others just means eventual war or at the least civil unrest.I feel people can nor rule themselves because human nature would see some rich body gather an army to challenge the ruling country or in other words large scale terrorism or similar . Almost as if our creator started an experiment which had a basic error which always ends in bloodshed regardless and that has finaly clicked with our creator and the question is how will the creator stop the programme and with hindsight reprogramme with totaly different parameters.
Hi guys.Having just watched this simple history lesson I urge you to check out this reaction vid from an Australian. It is called "What did Those Bastard Brits Ever Do For Us?"Like toread and hear what you think then.
MOST cultures have bad history and blood on their hands. Romans, Aztecs, Egyptians, even your Scandi and Nordics never stayed in their own countries they invaded others. The modern da you would say UAE is using workers/saves to build Dubai and they are dieing at crazy numbers. No one is immune from this, but going forward its where we can do better. Peace and love
It's get funny when you look who British got invaded by (and in the same didn't invade themselves): Norway, Denmark and Poland :D All 3 during viking times (well France and Spain as well, but those are not as funny)
You saying the invasions were a ‘god complex’ is harsh and unfair. You need to do more studying into why Britain invaded these countries. A lot had to do with actually fighting the French or the Dutch or Portuguese. In some case freeing those countries from dictators that may or may not have aligned with Britains government, values and or interests. True. But not all countries were invaded for long just to help free the majority and then give it back to the people in the hope they would do better and be stronger with their own people in power ruling fairly. Naivety on our part in a lot of cases. Hence countries falling back economically and socially into situations worse than before the Brits arrived. We did not rule so much of the world in one go like the Roman’s. If memory serves me right. Please let someone correct me if I’m wrong. I’m not saying any of it was right or wrong, nor fair or just. Or done humanly in some cases, but one thing we are good at is admitting when we’re wrong and trying to fix our mistakes if possible. Leaving Afghanistan the way we did was shocking. I truly hope we didn’t leave those that helped us behind!!! 😢 I just hope or stick my head in the sand and pray that the people are living a quieter more peaceful life there! I fear that’s not the case. 😔❤️🇬🇧
Not really. The Dutch did most of the fighting with the Portuguese and Spanish and beat them, the English attacked the Dutch merchants because they couldn't compete in the far bigger and more important European trade. Only in the high risk/high reward Far East and Atlantic trade where gunships mattered they could make a buck. It was the Dark Ages mercantilists attacking the free trade capitalists of the Dutch Republic. The video is incorrect, the British burned down a Dutch island village once, but the invasions went the other way. The Dutch sailed up the Thames and the Medway to destroy the English navy in 1667 and in 1688 the Dutch Republic invaded and occupied London to take the throne and install new government, that is what gave Britian their current constitutional parliamentary monarchy, Bill of Rights and modern capitalism.
We never fought the Portuguese. England's most long-standing treaty of alliance is with Portugal (since the Treaty of Windsor 1386). It's the world's oldest alliance still existing.
Governments and corporations need to understand that we the people dont have codes of conduct and may sort retribution without a court, especially if you are being financially screwed by said government or corporation. One thing i do know is that as i get older life in prison is less of a deterrent.

The world needs to get over it Britain isn’t the only empire that did bad things we may did some bad stuff but we all so did a lot of good stuff people nowadays our very uneducated when it come to history and historical facts black people our a perfect example of this and that a fact so with Middle Eastern people as well it’s not racist either when it’s fact
We made a lot of places better than when we came. Basically all were shit before we showed up and we gave them all kinds of things they still use to this day that without it, their countries would be nothing in comparison to today. Railroads was a masssivvveee one that we left everywhere. Some places we just wrecked tho i cant lie. Our country has messed up a few times tbh but its a huge mistake to generalise based on a few compared to the many
You said why didn't we make these countries better how's about democracy trial by jury railroads and sharing all the inventions with those countries I'm looking at you USA
Briains reason for colonisation was of course for power but also to bring civilization to the world as Britain thought it did it best, of course they were right as a lot of the western world folllows from Britsh colonisation, so no the British werent doing damage, ask yourself where would the US be without British colonisation? The native Americans would still be running around eating each other
The reason a lot of these places are in really bad states is not because of the British.
Absolutely the countries who are doing the best than their neighbours are the ones where the abBritish left them with an infrastructure/ laws etc.
Oversimplistic nonsense.

Yeah they did, therefore any African descendent who claims for representations better give reparations to sailors families who died ending slavery as it was Africans selling their own people
@@AdeboFunkyVoodoo Yes they did, do some research.
They stopped a lot of slave trading, particularly across the Atlantic and Indian Ocean.

Grew up in the Dominion of Canada, part of the British Empire - later Commonwealth, and King Charles is still our Head of State.

You do realise you speak English which is also the Worlds International business language for this very reason. You're welcome.

We didn’t invent those sports. We Codified the rules under which all these sports are now played. American Football came from rugby and Netball and Basketball have their descendants from games played in England. Baseball comes from Stool-Ball played here in England.

Wasn't just white people.

Easy! Easy! Easy! 🎵Come and take us on if you think you're hard enough! 🎵🤣🇬🇧
Mainly resource acquisition (all of Africa, India, Canada, the Caribbean), religious obligation (aka the Crusades, invading Asia minor and the middle east), strategic denial to the enemy (esp in in the World Wars - Africa, the Scandinavians, Belgium, Italy, Turkey), to secure a trade route (Singapore, Egypt), dragged in by allies / treaties of protection (Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, all of WW1 and WW2), familial inheritance (Royals following the Norman Conquest of Britain in 1066 often launched invasions into France to reclaim the family territory.)
63 countries may celebrate their independence from Britain, but how many of those wanted back in to the Commonwealth so they could continue to enjoy the benefits, though under their own governments?
In fact, the 114 years war between France and England is in fact a civil war between the French, who had invaded England almost 3 centuries ago.
As such, Richard the Lionheart did not speak a word of French and preferred to go to war to be bored in England.
Ultimately, it was the Valois royal dynasty that crushed the English in France, and so the English elite chose the language of the Saxon farmers as their primary language out of spite.
It was also because ruined England no longer had any economic outlets in Europe (vs. Habsburgs and Capetians), that they turned to the navy to colonize those more miserable than themselves.
And finally, the English language is just poorly pronounced French, haha that's what we like to say in France, a country that has won more wars than any other in the world.

we left before you judge how we left them.
Napoleon ended up on St. Helena with a young English girl, daughter of the Governor, called Betsy - they became good friends
yeah about that empire. you know how it is right? you let your mate organise a pub crawl and wake up next morning in another country with an empire. sorry about that...
Don`t mess with us when we`ve had a drink.
fun fact they kept and GIBRALTAR IS STILL part of the common wealth and are still ruled by the uk Because whoever holds Gibraltar. controls the full Mediterranean sea
I'm from UK and have been talking to friends and colleagues about that CEO shooting and I'm sorry if this offends anyone but everybody I've spoken to and my family all hope that he never gets caught. Those insurance companies sound insanely greedy.
Says a lot about your family and friends. A man, a husband, a father , a HUMAN BEING was killed on the streets.
@@becca8225 yet all the humans he was indirectly killing through not funding their insurance doesn't matter I suppose?
@@becca8225 and not funding their insurance for medical stuff had what affect?
@@AlexP1-y4g Regardless of how bad the healthcare system is in the states, its wrong and perverse that some people think you can justify this murder.
ironic, given as this video went up it was on the news with him in the back of a police car, lol

Awesome!
8:45 Seppo ignorance knows no bounds.
Yeah... think we out did the Roman's a bit with 25%
I thought everyone knew we in Britain are nuts. Imagine if we were a large country. But remember Americans you are our cousins
Watch on TH-cam (what did the english ever do for us)
you spelt bronze wrong, it should be 'stone'
@davidlancaster4476 I know I left abbreviated on & it tried to changeit

*Iron Age. Britain's contribution to the world ushered in the INDUSTRIAL Age and (along with the USA) helped bring about the INFORMATION Age. The world had already climbed out of the Stone Age and Bronze Age without Britain's help, leaving it in the Iron Age.
@hughtube5154 thanks for reminding me just forgot to mention it
If one country ruled the whole world would there be world peace.
@ good to know. You learn something new every day 👍
We never fought the Portuguese. England's most long-standing treaty of alliance is with Portugal (since the Treaty of Windsor 1386). It's the world's oldest alliance still existing.
@ thank you for the heads up.
Sorry to the countries we missed we will try and get around to you so you don't feel left out.
Before talking total nonsense do some research first.
what pisses me off, they make us pay for stuff now , we just stole it before
colonialism, yes bad, however, they brought huge advances in health, modernization and education.
They did make a lot of these places better but it was the rulers who had taken over most of them who made them worse or go backwards
Governments and corporations need to understand that we the people dont have codes of conduct and may sort retribution without a court, especially if you are being financially screwed by said government or corporation. One thing i do know is that as i get older life in prison is less of a deterrent.
The monopoly money was pure art ❤ Deny,Defend,Depose 💪❤️ And do you think it would be such a manhunt if it has been a peasant dead, instead of a CEO 😮😮😮 No freakin way ! Then they would not have enough cops 😳 Would the media had such big exposure on it then... No freakin way ! And all of this is horrific 😢
Invade set up trade and make money
We also spent a few hundred years banning slavery a debt only recently paid off!
This!
Wow now look at "what did the british ever do for us" it might open Yr eyes abit
Our country has messed up a few times tbh but its a huge mistake to generalise based on a few compared to the many
13:02 wow the ignorance
You said why didn't we make these countries better how's about democracy trial by jury railroads and sharing all the inventions with those countries I'm looking at you USA
Briains reason for colonisation was of course for power but also to bring civilization to the world as Britain thought it did it best, of course they were right as a lot of the western world folllows from Britsh colonisation, so no the British werent doing damage, ask yourself where would the US be without British colonisation? The native Americans would still be running around eating each other
the south african accent isnt british lmfao its dutch, afrikaans is literally just an old version of dutch
This is full of errors...
