Hi Tyler - these really take me back - yep I can sing every word of all those adverts, and they haven't been on for 40+ years! Just shows the power of advertising ! Lots of them had whole series of ads using the same jingle and people couldn't wait for the latest, they were so popular.😀

Thank you Tyler,Brit here, im 54 and you have just brought my childhood back, absolutely fantastic reaction video and so much fun, you should try watching the Cadbury Gorilla advert, it's brilliant 😊😊😊

I am going to be singing every one of these now for days. As I’m approximately 120 years old I remember all of them. There was a whole series of Smash alien adverts. We had so many good ones Hamlet cigars were brilliantly comedic.
Classic British TV ads. Anyone who grew up in the UK from the sixties to the nineties will have those catchy jingles permanently etched in their memories. It was a genuine nostalgia trip of advertising that perfectly captured the spirit of the times
I remember these adverts growing up in London. My favourite is the mash get smashed I love the little aliens laugh. The Mars Bar One reminded me how much bigger they used to be they're much smaller now. The secret lemonade drinker is brilliant the lemonade used to be in glass bottles and we used to return them and get some a few pence back for each one. Thanks for the memories enjoyed that❤
Thank you for the memories Tyler! It was such fun to see your reaction😀 By the way, fruit and nut by Cadbury is a chocolate bar. The advert was random because a British saying “he’s a nutcase” is a saying about someone’s mental health! 🤣🤣
You should take a look at the PG Tips ads from that era. "Dad, do you know the piano is on my foot?", "No son, you hum it & I'll play it" Also the Kinder Bueno ad from a bit later that was set in a corner shop with a man desperate to find the right kind of snack bar. ("You can lick my ripples!")
Loved seeing these ads again, i remember my mum loved the alien ' smash' ad so much my Dad actually bought her one of the toys. It laughed just like the t.v alien whilst spinning around. 😂😂❤
Hi Tyler I'm a Brit and love your posts into British life. I really enjoyed this one. I remember every one of those jingles. They missed off the 'Thank Crunchie it's Friday' advert.
Older generations certainly remember these jingles. I recently watched Peter Kay, a comedian, in the O2, and part of the show was singing old TV jingles. I was sitting in silence as thousands of people were singing these songs in unison from 20-30 years before I was born.
Hi from the UK - I have become addicted to watching your videos and your reactions - they do not make ads like this anymore - they were so entertaining and you knew what they were advertising. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. :)
I'd forgotten about most of these ads but I've been singing along to them all ... I remembered them instantly! We were all obsessed with having sweet smelling carpets back then, but now most people have wooden floors ... so we don't need the shake and vac to put the freshness back! Thanks Tyler, the stroll down memory lane has been fun! x
This reminds me of a story. A very busy restaurant realised they needed a dedicated staff member for dish washing, so they put out an ad. The next day a German man by the name of Hans turned up to apply, and got the job instantly. Hans was a big, strong man, but also gentle with a heart of gold. This was one of those restaurants with a tank of animals you could chose from and they take it out, dispatch it, cook it and bring it to your table to guarantee freshness. One day they were very busy and short staffed due to a bug going round. So Hans was asked to double up waiting tables. On his first one the mother of this family group asked for squid. Hans took her to the tank. Amongst all the various fish and things was a strange green little squid with prominent hairs around it's lips. 'I want that one' she said pointing at it. So Hans got the little net they had leaning on the tank and fished it out. He took it to the kitchen, which was in chaos. The head chef, a woman named Eve Vase, said 'look, we are rushed off our feet here. Take this knife and chop the squid's head off, I'll take it from there'. But the truth was, she never killed the animals, she always got someone else to do it as she just couldn't bring herself to do it. Hans was less than happy to do this either, but he knew he had no choice. So he took the knife, put it upon the little creature, then it looked up at him and gave out a quiet scream. The chef saw what happened with shock as Hans threw the knife on the floor. They looked at each other, neither knowing what to do. Problem was they were the only two people available to carry out the deed. Eve Vase picked up the knife and tried herself, but again, the little squid looked up and gave another pathetic little scream. Hans made another attempt, same thing happened. In the end they gave it it's own little tank with a sign saying 'not for eating'. You see, Hans that does dishes can be soft as Eve Vase, for mild scream, furry lip squid.
Man goes into a restaurant. Orders fresh squid from a tank of live ones. Sees one particular squid that's covered in light green algae. And it seems to have a big bushy moustache. The man and the squid stare at each other, eye to eye. Then the squid sticks two tentacles up at the man a couple of times, "Flipping him off". So the man says, "Right you bastard, I'll have you!". He tells the waiter he'll have that one. "Which one sir?" asks the waiter. "The one at the back", the man answers, "The mild green, hairy lipped squid".
I was thinking that I should look this joke up and post it it in here. Nothing says your jingle has entered the public consciousness than it being a punchline! The version I remember had "Hans that does dishes is as soft as Gervais with the mild green hairy lip squid."
That's the success of these adverts. They get stuck in your head, and are referred to in everyday life, usually with fondness. People quote the Finger of fudge song quite often these days, even though it was almost 50 years ago.
Martians brought us Mash potato lol. I grew up in the 60's & 70's and loved the adverts more than the tv programme's. Alas that can't be said for todays adverts. I'm from Wales UK and love your video's 👍
I can remember every one of those ads and what a blast from the past. I know those ads so well I can sing everyone with a few mistakes, I know because I just tried. I was a kid when they came out but there are ingrained into me at 49 years old. Isn't it amazing the power of advertising to remember all these years later and fun too.
I've seen many videos of Americans reaction to British ads, but you're the first one I've ever seen reacting to some of the 70's and 80's classics from my childhood, and it was a joy to see you appreciating them, and also stating what I have many times, they really don't make them like that any more, sadly. I just sang the "finger of Fudge" song a couple of days ago, just before I was about to tuck into one! lol 🙃 I find myself randomly singing all of the jingles in the vid out of the blue sometimes, which just shows how iconic they were. 😊
All of these played in my head as you said the titles! If you want to see what’s common on tv now may I suggest Kevin the carrot Christmas compilations? You do need to watch them all as they are an ongoing story year after year.
I've got an old school silver charm bracelet, it used to be my mums, it was a tradition in my family that when girls turn 21 they get a charm bracelet and the rest of the family buy charts to go on it, being the youngsters I didn't get one as I was promised my mum's. It has a Smash alien on it, and it's one of my favourite charms
Hey Tyler, I doubt if it's only me that can still remember all these jingles from my childhood and can still sing along with them too this day. I'm in my late 50's now and still every time I go and pick up one of these products from a shop the jingle magically appears out of my mouth. lol What can I say the odd advertisers in the UK knew how to create a good ear worm for kids to remember for ever more.
A nutcase is an eccentric person, hence all the weirdos in the ad. In the washing up ad, the kid is her own child playing at being a door-to-door salesperson.
Thank you for sharing these blast from the past👍🏻 I'm 73 years old and I still sing "A finger of Fudge" I used to picked my kid's up from school, I had one for each of them 😋 don't get me started on Fair Liquid, oh yes it got the dishes clean, but it left my hands red raw, it was marigolds 🧤 for me🤷🏼😂 What a fantastic trip down memory lane 👍🏻💯
As a Generation X Brit, I remember every single one of these adverts! I love the Smash aliens, they were my favourite adverts as a kid 🙂 Also potato waffles are awesome, I still eat them regularly lol
I still think the catch phrase introduced to promote McVitie's Rich Tea biscuits, yonks ago, remains one of the most memorable in advertising history. "A drink's too wet without one."
Hi Tyler, I'm 53 years old and still have all these jingles ingrained in my head. I sometimes sing them to myself when I'm doing stuff and the kids just think I'm crazy! Love all you're videos... Peace out 😅
Though I'm too young to remember the original advert, the Mars one was known enough that in my primary school we parodied it, singing A Mars a day helps your teeth rot away 😂😂😂😂
What a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Thanks for a heartwarming reaction video. Nuts, whole hazelnuts, Cadbury's take them and they cover them in chocolate. Yeah, they get stuck in your head too 😂😂
I'm 54 and remember all of these ads and jingles and sang along to them all. The Smash Aliens were my favourite as a child but I also loved the P G Tips Chimps Ads.
It was so much fun watching all these ads - and I remember all of them! I actually have a half eaten Cadbury fruit and nut bar on the table next to me! 😂 you tried a Cadbury flake bar in your recent blog 🙂. All of my household dishwashing and clothes washing are done with Fairy products, very glad Fairy and Cadbury are still going strong.
Hi Tyler as a life long Brit I remember all these adverts from years ago. Oh my, you've certainly made me smile, even laugh, evoking memories of how I used to watch and listen to especially the Smash makes Mash ones! Ah well, I think you've lodged that jingle deeply in my brain.
The thing about Cadbury's Fudge is for years I was convinced they were singing "full of peppery goodness". In fact, it's only comparatively recently that I found out it's "full of Cadbury goodness". I have it on good authority that I'm not the only one to have misheard the lyrics at the time.
The last advert "just one cornetto" always reminds me of when i was a kid and they would play it in the cinema (not one of the major cinema chain ones) when they brought out the ice creams and sweets before the film started so it didnt melt before the film. Dont know whether they did it else where in the uk but they did in wales. Im 24 and it always bring a smile when i hear that 😂
I used to have an Italian girlfriend and the first time she heard, 'justa one cornetto' she fell about laughing. 'Oh So Le Mio' (you are my sunshine) is a well known, traditional, Italian song every Italian knows. It was coming from a statue of an Italian policeman in full traditional uniform placed outside an ice cream parlour in Regents Park Zoo. You walked close it triggered and started singing. She couldn't stop laughing.
Happy Christmas Tyler to you and your family all the way from a sub in the West of Scotland, UK. I hope you have a fantastic new year too. Take care 😘🏴
My wife and I still quote the peel them with their metal knives every time we peel anything. I still eat the waffles. She is playing at being a door-to-door salesperson. Oh, stop you are making me feel old.
Hi Tyler, A Brit here. I remember every single advert that you're playing. Singing along as well 😂Being born in the late 60s and seeing them now, they are hilarious, but when I was a kid, obviously, it was mum mum. Can you buy these! But I love the potato waffles for dinner but i hated the mash. But thanks for the nostalgia, it's brilliant! 😅
Hi Tyler - Cornetto is a classic british icecream brand and that advert is very memorable particularly if you're a child of the 80s. I think you're a Shaun of the Dead fan - that film together with sequals 'Hot Fuzz' and 'The World's End' are referred to by Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright as 'The Cornetto Trilogy' because a cornetto ice cream is featured prominantly in each film.
I've been singing along to all the jingles, they're totally from my childhood, brings back so many memories. My family would always sing the jingles lol
much memberberries. the combination of this, leaded petrol, and every food being a powder you added water or milk to certainly left an impression on my DNA.
Most of these ads have lived in my head since the 70s. It's impossible to buy " "Fairy liquid"and not think of the song or cadburys whole nut and not want to shout "nuts whole hazel nuts". It's " everyone's a fruit and nut CASE" by the way.
My son in law was delivering potatoes to the Birdseye factory in Lowestoft. My four year old grandson loved being able to have a ride in his dad's lorry, with the Potato Waffles signage on the trailer. Birdseye Potato Waffles, a waffaly versatile.
😂 had a good laugh watching this! Love your videos Tyler. Even though seems years and years ago that these ads were on telly, i found myself on auto pilot singing along with them! must've been deeply engraved in the psychi. Lol😂
I sang all of these just from seeing the text at the start. It is really funny that so many of these are for chocolate and basically say "this is really great for you/your children" while sugar and chocolate bars these days have been shrunk and taxed so hard they might as well be cigarettes! And the fact that the mars advert specifically shouts "glucose!" at you as one of the key selling points XD
Having a really low day today, this was just what the doctor ordered, I’m so pumped up with the memories and magic childhood allowed to be real. There are so many, many more that are bubbling around in my head now and I’m more cheerful than old St Nich now.
At 65 years old every single one of those tunes are in my head. The aliens in the first advert were similar to the ones in Dr Who and other Sci-Fi shows in the 60s. The Fairy advert was a daughter pretending to sell her mom stuff. 😊
Hi Tyler, in the Fairy Liquid advert, the little girl is her daughter, and she's pretending to be a sales person. Yes all these jingles are definitely stuck in your brain forever! 😂 These jingles have become part of British culture, and it's fun to randomly make reference to them...like if you see Cornetto ice creams in the supermarket it's hard not to start singing 'Just one Cornetto, give it to me...' 😊 1980s British adverts were the best! Keep your videos coming! 👏👏👏
Oh I loved the Mash Get Smashed adverts I so miss being a child of the 70’s what an awesome time 🕰️ all of these adverts are so familiar to me 😅 I always wanted to be the Flake lady
4:59 - Tyler you're so right 😂....I'm 48 and EVERY time I buy or make potato waffles, EVERY TIME I THINK about potato waffles....I hear that jingle in my head 🤣 Edit - same with the 'finger of fudge' ...I noticed that's from 1979, when I was 3, but I'm sure that was on telly for years and years. 2nd edit - same with cornetto 😅....tbh...I recognised all of these and the majority of them are earworms 😅....but those 3 are my most earwormey earworms 🤣
Thanks for the trip down memory lane Tyler. The Smash one is one of our most beloved and I think was number one in an advert countdown!
I remember seeing the Smash adverts and I was born in 1976, 2 years after the example in the video, so they must have run them for many years.

I was an adult back in the 70s but I loved this ad ... was so quirky and funny! For mash, get Smash!!
Thank You Ryan for a warm and fuzzy video! took me back to my childhood and I sung every jingle, great memories!
Who's Ryan? 🤔
@@Paul-hl8yg ooops! wrong reactor lol! Tyler sorry! forgivness begged for lol!
@@delskioffskinov 👍 Is Ryan Tyler's brother?
Haha no problem! Easy mistake to make-we're actually twin brothers
@@TylerRumple Thanks for that Tyler! again so sorry lol!
I remember every single one !
Later Fairy Liquid ads moved away from the soft hands angle and emphasised the long-lasting properties of a bottle as the main selling point.
Yeah, and it's rather harsh on the hands too
The thing about Cadbury's Fudge is for years I was convinced they were singing "full of peppery goodness". In fact, it's only comparatively recently that I found out it's "full of Cadbury goodness". I have it on good authority that I'm not the only one to have misheard the lyrics at the time.
Same here, assuming they are singing Cadbury's.
I thought it was peppery goodness as a child too.
Same!!
Me Too!
I still sing the flake song now. I remembered everyone of these ads
A trip back in time - loved it. Love your vids Tyler 😂😊
I’m 50 and I recall of these adverts. You can still buy shake and vac for the carpet and when I vacuum I do the dance.
I grew up with all these ads, good fun.
And then the Boddingtons remake.
This all my childhood adverts thanks for the memories Tyler
I've been singing along to all the jingles, they're totally from my childhood, brings back so many memories. My family would always sing the jingles lol
much memberberries. the combination of this, leaded petrol, and every food being a powder you added water or milk to certainly left an impression on my DNA.
Most of these ads have lived in my head since the 70s. It's impossible to buy " "Fairy liquid"and not think of the song or cadburys whole nut and not want to shout "nuts whole hazel nuts". It's " everyone's a fruit and nut CASE" by the way.
Yes, and it's mild GREEN Fairy Liquid (not Greek)!
My son in law was delivering potatoes to the Birdseye factory in Lowestoft. My four year old grandson loved being able to have a ride in his dad's lorry, with the Potato Waffles signage on the trailer. Birdseye Potato Waffles, a waffaly versatile.
The little girl in the Fairy Liquid ad is Patsy Kensit. Lethal Weapon fans will know who she is.
No, she was in the Birds Eye peas advert, not Fairy Liquid.
I’m singing along to every single clip, as i’m watching…Thank you, for sharing the memories of my childhood 😊
total flashback to my childhood. I remember all of those jingles. Thank you it brought a smile to my face.
The 'Secret Lemonade drinker' was the Dad of Elvis Costello. (A singer songwriter)
Having a really low day today, this was just what the doctor ordered, I’m so pumped up with the memories and magic childhood allowed to be real. There are so many, many more that are bubbling around in my head now and I’m more cheerful than old St Nich now.
A-Waffly versatile....meant to sound like Awfully versatile 😊
At 65 years old every single one of those tunes are in my head. The aliens in the first advert were similar to the ones in Dr Who and other Sci-Fi shows in the 60s. The Fairy advert was a daughter pretending to sell her mom stuff. 😊
Tyler should be shown the Libby’s M-Bongo advert. It’ll blow his mind trying to follow and understand it 🤣🤣🤣
The smash line: "they are clearly a most primitive people" entered the culture for a time and used when criticizing some undesirable group.
Great video, loved it, singing all the way through it.
Had forgotten thiese.
Way better than now.
As a person of the 70's I can only apologies, My only excuse is that we were all on acid back then.
The little girl was playing at being a sales person to her mother
The Finger of Fudge jingle has been stuck in my head for near on 50 years now.
Yes i remember all these adverts.
4:59 - Tyler you're so right 😂....I'm 48 and EVERY time I buy or make potato waffles, EVERY TIME I THINK about potato waffles....I hear that jingle in my head 🤣
Edit - same with the 'finger of fudge' ...I noticed that's from 1979, when I was 3, but I'm sure that was on telly for years and years.
2nd edit - same with cornetto 😅....tbh...I recognised all of these and the majority of them are earworms 😅....but those 3 are my most earwormey earworms 🤣
Im now 50 and i still know the words to finger of fudge and shake n vac and regularly hum them to this day
Love your videos! That was my childhood, thanks for reminding me, good times. Never seen the secret lemonade one though
I remember all these ads, great reaction thank you. The instant Mash and still makes me laugh.
At 52 i still love Cadburys Fudge Bars
