Lynda, what the x do you think China is doing. They landed in a crater which makes digging for resources on the moon better, due to thickness of the crust, and due to the fact there seems to be water nearby. If all goes well the planning is a manned flight in 2028 to this area of the moon. The problem is that both NASA and ESA are worried seeing China might claim territory on the moon, which would be used to build a space station, for amongst other things a refueling station fir further space exploration. (At least according to the regular news sources.) Russia curiously enough, is rather silent about the whole subject, which at least partially surprises me.

Healthy people are just beter for a society as a whole. People who have to economize on their healthcare are a drain on society because of decreased happiness/wellness, decreased economic input due to bad health and those ailments get much more expensive and hard to treat as time goes on. Bankruptcies are bad for the economy (and the people too): "How many bankruptcies are due to medical bills in the US? And, finally, according to the article, sixty-two (62%) of the two million personal bankruptcies filed each year are the result of medical debt. So, if you are facing overwhelming medical bills that you cannot possibly afford to pay, you are clearly not alone." It's really a no-brainer to have universal healthcare. And a highly regulated pharmacologic industry.

I may be wrong but it does seem to be the right wing parties who use fear and 'divide and rule' tactics, presumably as they do not have anything positive to offer! Many in Europe cannot understand why the people of the US tolerate the healthcare system that they have and don't seem to push for change but feel that it's not really our business!

The NHS is funded by general taxation and, although it can be slow for non life threatening conditions, this is really dictated through the funding it gets through government. Urgent cases get world class treatments (for free) and all will be treated eventually. Those who wish, and can afford to, or pay insurance, can still use the private sector, but most choose not to and I believe that the costs are still less than in the US. Hopefully the next government, whoever they are, will properly fund the NHS again, rather than obsess on tax cuts for already affluent people.

Why do Americans thin Socialism means North Korea, no it doesn’t, I have lived in the UK and for about a quarter of my life there has been a socialist party in power and it was fine, they are more likely to want to put more investment in to social care, health service, low cost housing for the less well off, it may mean higher taxes for the higher earners, more likely to find protection of the individuals rights, like legal aid, property rights to the rental sector, higher minimum wage and improvement to workers rights.

You are prioritised here in the UK. If it's a emergency, you will have paramedics attending to you in a matter of minutes and transporting you to a doctor... at ZERO cost. If it's not urgent, you may wait a few weeks to see a doctor IF you choose not to walk into a public walk in clinic... of which is same day. You can actually ring at the start of opening to see if there are cancelations (nearly always are) and be seen practically the next day. If you need medication and have doctor paperwork, you could arrange to pick it up at a local pharmacy. In England you will have to pay £9 flat rate for any drug... IF you can afford it, if you cant (not working etc), you do not have to pay a penny. Same with surgery... if it's not urgent... you may end up waiting months, if it's urgent... you may only wait minutes. The Conservatives have absolutely butchered our NHS, anyone defending them is in denial, the conservatives have and still do openly talk about privatising ALL health care, pensions and social security features of the UK. They are also responsible for cutting the workers pensions and cutting their wages (keeping their wage growth WELL below inflation... yes balloon head conservatives... that's called a pay cut). They have also increased their working hours via contract laws and increased the cost of medical training in colleges... making staffing extremely undesirable. Bare in mind... we have full privatised healthcare here also. Genuinely would support sending them ALL (Conservatives) to the moon without a return trip (or supplies). You screw with our healthcare... you are not a human being to me... you are something that grows on a smelly pond.

The NHS is NOT perfect; but no one dies of cancer or diabetes because they’re poor or don’t have the right insurance. The US is alone in the world for not having some form of state assisted / funded / subsidised healthcare. Also, note that nobody is forced to use the NHS. There are lots of private hospitals & healthcare facilities in the U.K. that people can pay for treatment or via their health insurance.

Elton John flew to the US for medical care... ... because Elton John lives in the US! He has, iirc, four houses over there (LA, NY, Atlanta, New Orleans). So the Fox host should have said, "Multi millionaire who can afford it went home so he could be near his family as he underwent and recovered from surgery, and to avoid the shitty UK weather."

In the uk you can get a phone appointment same day at most gp's, the gp can prescribe you all your medicines so you dont need referral, you could call up for insulin and pick up the prescription same day or get it delivered. Theres also out of hours clinics you can go to in emergencies as well as hospitals oc but out of hours GP is different to the emergency room, you call up and book and can see a GP from 7pm to 7am if you desperately need, like i woke up with bells palsy a few years back at like 1am and had an appointment within the hour and was given steroids £0 cost. You ever think about how crazy it is that medical debt is a thing. Most of uk and probably europe has never in their or their parents or even grandparents lives even had the concept of medical debt in their lives. I remember a uni friend from philidelphia told me that everyone in her family has at least 10k in medical debt and the rest of us from the uk were like ?????? wtf is medical debt. They also all had credit card debt too and we were again all like ???? who the fuck uses credit cards.

Yes the NHS is far from perfect , if you need urgent care an urgent operation like heart or gall bladder or car accident you will be seen and operated on striaght away , yes you might have to wait a few months if you need a new hip , not nice but you dont die . If they suspect cancer you will be fast tracted for tests etc. The cost depends on how much you earn its collected as tax on your wage. so if you earn a low wage lets say £22000 a year you will roughly pay £100- ish a month . If you unemployed its free . Prescription are free for children untill 18yrs and pensioners , Its £9.90 for every one else . Again certain condition like throid or diabetes you wont pay a penny . This is why we really value our NHS, NO GOVERNMENT is brave enough to play with it . Health care is a human right . If you cant afford insulin you die OMG america whats that all about your a 1st world country NOT a developing one

A visitor to the UK will always get free urgent medical care. They could, in theory, be billed that probably would not be pursued. If you stay here long term then you have to pay for non-emergency treatment but at a much lower cost than in the US. However, for a modest annual payment of £1035, you will get the same NHS treatment as a UK citizen.

The woman in red is talking the biggest load of S--t , the UK is not a socialist country. We pay a small amount of our tax that goes to the NHS. Prescriptions in England £9.00 no matter what you get, prescriptions in Scotland free. Ambulance free, surgery free, child birth free, and on and on. The NHS is overworked but you get treated if you need to be. Wake up America and stop telling lies to your public.

There is no cure for diabetes. Not now and not in a near future. A system that is broke can't be fixed that easily. That's why insulin is so important. Even if they'd find a cure now, it would take 8-10 years to get it on the market. And the price would be astronomical.

For the sake of argument let's say: Yes the USA has the best/can provide the best healthcare and service in the world. Even if this would be true, a system that bankrupts people regularly and drives them into debt is utterly useless for everybody who isn't rich. Even if provided healthcare is only subpar, if it is given to everybody equally more lives get saved by that than having the "best" which is only for the rich.

I'm in the UK. My nephew had a motorbike accident six weeks ago. Broke two bones in his spine. Had surgery and still in hospital getting physiotherapy. Not once has anyone thought about the cost as there won't be one when he's discharged. Yes, there can be waiting times to see doctors and for some routine surgery. But if you're unlucky enough to be involved in an accident, you won't have to worry about the cost.

Look at HIV treatment. That's lifelong - a bloke in the US managed to buy the patent for one of the drugs and upped the cost 3000+%. The other 2 were also subject to 1000%+ increases. With the correct meds, you can live well into your 70's or 80's. The NHS charges something like £10 per item, or for HIV, £30 a month as it's in 3 pills.

The Chinese reported stem cell therapy had cured a man with Type 2 diabetes. Type 2 is largely a lifestyle caused illness (not entirely but in most cases) so a cure/prevention is within the realm of anyone with recently diagnosed Type 2 diabetes or who are overweight and underactive. Type 1 (affecting 10% of those with diabetes is an autoimmune disease so a cure is a long way off)

As long as US hospitals can charge $55 for a 50c per of disposable gloves, $300 for a $4 vial of insulin, or $12,000 for a five-minute ambulance ride and get away with it, nothing will ever change. The reason that health care is so much cheaper in the UK is the government won't let the hospitals price gouge. I'd rather pay £20 per month tax, with zero co-pay on anything, than $1000 in health insurance. It's no different from having 'socialised' Police or fire departments, it's another service provided to keep the citizens safe.

Ya, we definitely need some regulation within the privatized space of medicine here in the US.

In most countries, pharmaceutical companies are also subject to price monitoring and are not allowed to simply dictate prices. The task of the entire healthcare system is viewed as a social system that is not completely subject to the capital market.

There is a common, although mistaken, belief that the NHS is funded by National Insurance (NI) contributions which are paid by all people who work, both the employed and the self-employed. THIS IS NOT TRUE. The NHS is funded from _general taxation_ - there is no ring-fencing of any one set of contributions for the NHS. This means, in effect, that _everyone_ - not just those who earn money - funds the NHS, as the cost of running it comes from many, many sources including, but not limited to, income tax, capital gains tax, value-added tax, taxes on gambling, petrol, alcohol and tobacco, and a multitude of other taxes. Thus everyone from the art collector selling one of his collection, to the street-corner beggar buying a bottle of cheap cider, from the driver of the fuel-guzzling Rolls-Royce to the buyer of the £2 bus ticket, is making a contribution to the costs on the NHS. The tourist contributes, as does - albeit indirectly - the new-born baby and the 'looked-after' severely intellectually undeveloped or brain-damaged adult who is unable to live an independent life in any way. Many countries have 'reciprocal' arrangements with the UK, such that tourists and other short-term visitors who are citizens of those countries, are entitled to _necessary_ (not elective!) healthcare while visiting the UK, as are UK residents when visiting those countries, on production of a GHIC card (formerly known as EHIC and even earlier, as E111). It works well, but it's always wise to buy insurance for medical repatriation, as a medi-flight to bring you home doesn't come cheap for most people, even if your hospital expenses in eg Australia amount to almost nothing ... For perfectly obvious reasons, the USA is NOT a participant in this very useful reciprocity! HOWEVER - genuine emergency treatment in A&E is ALWAYS free of charge, as are emergency ambulance (of any type, including air ambulance) call-outs, no matter who or where you are. Ongoing treatment, though, is (or rather, should be) charged at 150% of NHS standard rates for procedures, for persons who are not eligible for NHS treatment, be it fully (ie legal resident of UK) or temporarily (ie covered by GHIC reciprocity). In practice, and depending where a person is when an emergency happens, an American visitor (most, but not all, other visiting nationalities will have some form of reciprocity) to the country may or may not be charged anything at all. They are more likely to be charged if in an area which sees more American tourists, as there are more likely to be admin staff who understand, and are able to activate, the process of charging foreign visitors. Even then, the costs will seem miniscule compared to the sums you Yanks are accustomed to seeing on medical bills. If you are issued, as an outpatient, after being seen by either a GP or in the A&E, with a prescription to be filled, you may find it is a 'private prescription' which means that you must pay the full price of the drugs plus a set 'dispensing fee' to the pharmacy. Again, this is likely to be considerably less than it would cost you in the USA, due to the bulk ourchasing power of the NHS. Hope this is a little bit helpful.

I remember how Donald Trump put a price cap on insulin, and on his first day in office Joe Biden removed it.

I receive insulin at no cost from the NHS, as it is considered essential life-saving medication.

It is so weird to me that newsanchors in America is not neutral. And not only that thye also make up this weird things that are rarely right, sometimes hitting a note somewhere but the meaning of it all is changed. Why is American news not neutral? How are people going to be able to form a opinion of nothing is ever about facts but just made up shit.

Please move the mics away from your mouths, give the treble a bit of a boost and try to stop moving them whilst holding them. If you've got mic stands, or better still, the little clip-on mics then use them.

The Tories wettest wet dream is fully adopting the US parasite health insurance system. They dare not come straight out with it - that would be political suicide - so instead they underfund the NHS & hive off small, easy & above all profitable treatments to their "special friends" in the private sector with the view that one day privatised medicine will be delivered as a fait accompli. & make a vanishingly small number of people obscenely rich. In the US? Don't look to your lying venal ratbastard politicians to bring about any change to your parasite healthcare provision - they are extremely well bribed to kill off anything that might threaten their rich sponsors.
