Thanks, your vid helped me and gave carriage to do same thing to my 1g10m in just same condition. I didn't changed thermostat, it just start working after acid, and made a impeller gasket out of paper coffee cup (still holds tight) nor other parts coz it is kinda difficult to get some at night on the weekend. It was day before they forced me to move a boat to other harbour because harbour winter closed for renovation. So engine runs like a charm now. No smoke and plenty water coming out pipe. That is something..... (It was getting smoke from vent hose like a teapot dag before). By the way mine sitting in my Scampi 30 )
all that engine needs is a cheap rocker cover gasket it is probably made out of cork and they always leak when they get old I doubt if the head gasket is leaking as you would have serious problems as the oil is under a lot of pressure so I doubt it very much it just needs the rocker gasket a good clean check the crank seals and changes the oil while it's out as it will be easier to do instead of pumping it out or sucking it out change the oil filter and fuel filter and air filter and job done if you want to go further while the rocker gaskets being changed re set the tappets I bet there overdue for re-setting but that can wait but while you have it out why the hell not so all the best from John from Rugby UK. blimey, I am still binge-watching these videos see you again in 30 mins lol. And those two hoses are cream crackered they are oil contaminated as well they have gone soft which if they burst and your sea cocks open then you will become a submarine very quickly if you don't notice I would change all the hoses on that engine just to be safe as they are knackered the rest can't be far behind if there is any more as you have done the two sea cock ones what clean's up an engine good is a wire brush for your drill you can get different sizes it makes light work of the rust and dirt might be an idea to invest in one they are about a fiver or less so all the best from john from Rugby UK.
New subscriber here, great job mate! Im about a year ahead of you. Bought an old 28 footer up in Norway last year and moved in and started sailing with no previous experience and its been going great! Only real regret is not doing this years ago. Im going to keep my boat till the fall and then im buying a bigger boat to live on and hopefully some years later go cruising around the world. Who knows maybe one day we meet in some far away harbor and have a pint and get shitfaced :D You will get the hang of sailing quickly mate.
All spick and span, just don’t tell the misses where her toothbrush has gone 😂. Keep up the good work. Enjoying your restoration efforts and videos here across the pond! Fair winds
As usual another fabulous video, personally I saw the engine and thought it was a yanmar, I have a 14 hp in mine, I know these 10 hp engine's, there actually great ! Made by Yamaha I believe, your doing great, just take your time going to Fleetwood,it's a fair bit,so take your time, cheers john
@@BumblingSailor several boats that were beside me had 10 hp yanmars, one also had water channel blocking problems,,it also had been lying- up for a while
Good to clean with degreaser in the cockpit where the heavy vapour can get out of the cockpit drains. It’s heavy and can displace air in the bilges and it’s “goodnight Vienna”. I may be wrong but it used to be trichloroethane.
Next time that engine gives you any lip just give it a swift kick in the pully and leave a business card of a local junkyard where it can see it and know you ain't playin! Good job sir. 👍
Great work! Let us know when you're out on the water and heading west. We are Devon based, would love to pop out and offer you a nice cuppa and lunch. Take care.
Brilliant you have certainly got a difficult job done on the engine mounts hats off to you for getting it all done 😃 just thinking about that rusty gear lever could you not get some one to weld a plate on to it to make it strong again ? At least with all this done you will have an engine to feel confident about 😊.
I used to own a boat with the same motor. At low RPM it sounded like the African Queen. Poka, Poka, Poka! Fine engine but it sure doesn't hold much oil. 1/2 liter low and it's "oh shit" time!
Quick question... I'm guessing like me you watch a number to Sailing/Cruising channels. Which is your number one go to that you look forward to a new video coming out..?
I feel like i want to give some smart obvious advice like other TH-cam viewers but i cant think of anything as i have had a few pints of 6.5 percent Steamer stout.........anyway top video as ever Terry ....keep on keeping one dude.

@@BumblingSailor hi,read the instructions first, but I would think it would clean it in the places you can't reach, I had trouble with my engine overheating for the last 4 years,it turned out to be two small pieces of impeller blocking the heat exchanger,it would work in the marina,no problems then overheat after an hour or so out at sea,
Mr muscle, may be corrosive to metals warning, so I don't wanna be responsible for totaling your engine! So please be careful, try just a little on an external bit first to see if it's harmful to the engine or rubbers
Another very entertaining video. But "that will probably be OK" is something that one can say about a toothbrush holder, but likely not so great for a motor mount.
OMG you're sail going to move that boat away from land! In the sea! Where there are waves! And tidal streams! Please, just make sure to record all the frightening bits. I'm relying on you - if you can do it (sail) maybe I can?
Thanks!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!

Really enjoy these Friday nights with you. First thing I do when I get in from work is pour a large vodka then see what you've been up to.
First thing I do is pour a large whisky and try to forget about boat work for a while 😂😂😂. Thanks for watching!
Another good video m8. Stop off at the river Dee on your up and ill buy you a pint
I'll look into it!
Wow that engine sounds a lot better .well done .
Thanks!
Mr muscles oven cleaner works really well on greasy engines
Nice! Probably far cheaper too! Cheers for the tip!
I use the Mr Muscles Kitchen cleaner to clean engines and greasy things, it works 100 times better than any engine cleaner I have ever used.
Wow, looking good! She's really taking shape!
Very personable videos, pleasure to watch each week. Happy sailing!
Thank you!
It never going to get you hydroplaning but the engine looks cleaner, It has lost a lot of its bounce as well. interesting update 2x👍

Very! I hope you've bought your boat! 😂
Great work.
Have you heard of a product called paint? It’s easy to use in the engine bay before putting things back in. 😊
I have! And in fact I have several litres of it waiting up north for when the engine comes out in 3 weeks.

Looking good! Doesn't that engine have a sump plug for draining the oil when it's suspended?
There is a TH-cam video that discusses changing the oil lines to copper tubing but says the fuel lines a very thick.
Yeah, the replacement oil lines are £179 for the pair though. Unfortunately out of reach at the moment.

Always drill 0.5 mill under your screw size pal, so 5 mill, drill 4.5 so it leaves anuf for your screws to grab
