I think a strong case could also be made that Yeshua was pointing out the error in the Pharisaic (and now Rabbinic) idea of what constitutes as work on Shabbat. There is seemingly no end to the miniscule, man-made rules in the Rabbinic traditions, and throughout his time on earth we see so many examples of Yeshua putting the Pharisees in their places. One could imagine that the Pharisees who rejected Yeshua eventually became the modern Rabbinic movement.

I always thought that Adonai commanded the Shabbat to rest, even down to the working animals. We should worship and talk to Adonai every day, but Adonai wants us to rest at least one day, because, and I have seen people work every day and it's not good. I am afraid I do not agree with the Rabbinic teachings of not even turning on a light switch.
Yeshua also helped a lost sheep stuck down ditch on Shabbat. It's like seeing someone hurt or in trouble and you don't pick up a phone to call for help, because it's shabbat. Making a call and saving someone is not work.
In the UK I have seen Jewish families with timers to turn things on and off. If turning on a switch is work, then so is getting up and going to the toilet. No wonder Yeshua had to come and show people how to live.
I'm sure our Master has a sense of humour. He must put His head in His hands looking at us.
