BCP Mini | Is It Ever Okay to Lie? - A Messianic Jew explains
The Scriptures command us not to bear false witness (Ex. 20:16), and that the LORD hates a lying tongue (Pr. 6:16f). So how could it ever be okay to lie? In this excerpt, Kevin investigates whether it is ever acceptable-even righteous-to lie.

The Biblically Correct Podcast is a ministry of Perfect Word Ministries. Our goal is to equip both Jewish and Gentile believers in Yeshua through sound, Scriptural exhortation to uphold God’s word as their solely authoritative standard for life in Messiah. Our vision is to provide teachings from a Messianic Jewish perspective that promote Yeshua-centric, scriptural principles and values, and confront unbiblical beliefs that are hostile to the Scriptures. We value the Scriptures-from the Torah to the New Covenant Writings-above all religions and traditions of man, not to disesteem those traditions, but to elevate the perfect word of God.

Among other issues, I find it peculiar that you felt it "wacky," "absurd" and "untrue" that the Name of YHWH was "in" the Name of the Messiah, when it seems to me that His quote in John 5:43 was referencing the "Angel/Messenger" after Mosheh: "Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for My Name is in him." (Exo 23:21)

Kevin thank you so much for this teaching! You have skillfully and lovingly cut through to the heart of the matter. I approached this from the other side. I was raised in a High Epicopal church steaped in those traditions, which were supposed to bring us closer to our Lord. Many years ago my late husband and I committed to the fact that everywhere in our beliefs and lives that contradicted the scripture, God and his word were right and we had been wrong. While he was lead into interfaith ministries, so we attended several churches in addition to our own, my lesson learned was we all have traditions that lead us both towards and away from God. Now that my husband has been gone a few years now and I am pursuing his will for my life, I find it awkward and difficult to even find a place to worship let alone locate the changes I feel led to make in my life to lead a more scriptural life. That journey lead me to your ministry among others a couple of years ago and I especially enjoyed this teaching but value all of your teachings as you so clearly endeavor to remain centered on His word. I hope you one day will write a book covering many scriptural ways of living vs the various traditions of man. I think it would truly help many to cut through the burdens that our various traditions have placed on mankind. Thank you.😉💞

That was an excellent teaching. I wonder how many answered yes because they got slipped up with the later part of the verse and didn't closely listen; like the joke, 'How many animals did Moses take in the ark?' But this did make me think more critically of the verse. There have been times I misused it the way you said when I was a much younger believer. But when I use it now I think I am closer to your explanation. I will try to be more conscious when I quote the verse from now on to make sure that what I am referring to goes back to a false authority. Is it possible the passages around John 8:44 and John 10:20 could have influenced the idea that the thief is the devil?

Shabbat Shalom, Kevin. I pray you and your family are all well, dear brother. Thank you for the informative and edifying BCP 66. I thoroughly enjoyed it, Kevin. I love some of the historical traditions of Judaism, but I personally do not keep them; and, as you say, Kevin, they certainly do not draw or provoke to jealousy any unsaved Jews to Messiah Yeshua. Faith comes by hearing the true word of YHWH, not the gospel, according to Tevye 😉 I believe in a true Biblical Judaism, which Messiah Yeshua kept, but for the last 1900 years, unfortunately, the Jews have been following what I call Rabbinism (Judaism-ish as you call it). As a jewish messianic who discovered jewishness after discovering Yeshua, there are many customs and Jewish prayers that resonate with me and strengthen my walk with the Lord. I'd prefer to be able to walk where I want without worrying if I'm walking too far.

I do not know much, but I still favor Shabbat as the day for worship. Christianity has a ton of man made traditions we can say the same about. I have yet to find any one Church that has it right. This has always confused me. Why so much division in the church on how to properly hold praise and worship? Does the division make God sad? I have listen to your teaching for some time, and I am a gentile. But I watch Beth Yeshua International out of Macon, Georgia, and Adat Hativika out of Chicago... I find them truer to the scriptures but perhaps I just don't understand things correctly.

Many of us feel the same way. It's good to realize that we aren't alone in these struggles. That others are more interested in living closer to God and his will and word than closer to traditions that make little sense and are not supported in Scripture. Though that said, Yeshua struggled with them putting traditions of man ahead of what was right and even ahead of God then, so why should we find it any different now. Mankind is human, thus flawed. We should temper our feelings with love, as Yeshua did, and do the best we can to follow the Scriptures. Perhaps that example will help others on their journey. 😉

I love your teachings .... I call Him Father ..... I find it so odd that folk bend over backwards to promote someone who openly say they don't believe Yeshua is the Messiah, and make excuses for their denial. Just me ... but I was raised in the South, you do not call your Father by His name, but you KNOW His name .... and you do not correct Him, cause He is always your maker 😊❤ Shalom

Yehovah. According to Nehemia Gordon, there are over 5,000 manuscripts that have traces of the correct pronunciation.

Why would you listen to and trust the teaching of an unbeliever?

@@perfectwordTV A few points. (1) sometimes a broken clock is right twice a day; (2) being a believer does not mean one is always right, and being an unbeliever does not mean one is always wrong; (3) kind of like how science and history is done, we ought to follow the evidence; (4) "trust" may be too strong of a word, but a lot of what he has to say on this topic makes sense, plus he has proofs; (5) he's had believers work on this project as well.

@GeekRights I appreciate your reply and understand your rationale, but your choice to follow an unbeliever is nevertheless concerning.

Shalom Brother, thanks for sharing 😊 What are your thoughts regarding what the Jewish Encylopedia says, that the true pronounciation was never lost? Love and Blessings!

Shalom. I have a vague recollection of seeing something to that effect at one time, but it’s still conjecture. Besides, the JE says in another article that “the true pronunciation was forgotten.”

@perfectwordTV .hmmm at around 7:06, i think you might be deluding yourself. you think an Orthodox jew will accept you a bit more if you strip the christian label? i read the story of rabbi daniel zion, who came to believe in Jesus and professed same on a radio program after he moved to israel. he didn't become a christian, he just accepted that Jesus was the Messiah and believed he heard Revelations ro this effect- he continued to practise going to the synagogue and all jewish traditions. he was rewarded by being stripped of any rabbinic leadership position, and i rhink i read couldn't go into the synagogues- perhaps he was one of the first messianic jews? i am glad you found Jesus, and i don't care what label you use. I actually believe the jews not believing in Jesus is by design of God, when i read Romans 11. jews not known to proselytize and there is high probability that if most jews had accepted Jesus, then the gospel would not have spread to the extent it has, and i might not have received the good news. so i am thankful that the jews have not accepted Christ (but also sad at the high cost of persecution they endured), but i am not worried - God will decide the appointed time and lift the veil from their eyes and they will rejoin the olive tree more easily. i do like your explanation on why the emphasis on messianic jew- to preserve the culture. i also hope you find acceptance amoungs your jewish brothers and sisters, even as you belive in Jesus. maybe have a chat with Roy Schoeman- jewish convert to Catholicism - he said he feels more jewish, not less. anyways- i subscribed - i like your presentation.

Min 16 thereabouts, you mention no Christian recognition of keeping the 7th day holy...except in Seventh Day Adventism, and a few other denominations.

Shalom my brother. There are several times in Scripture where YHVH tells us that YHVH is His Name. Just a few… Yeshayahu 42:8 “I am YHVH, that is My Name “. Yeshayahu 47:4 Our Redeemer YHVH of Hosts is His Name. Yeshayahu 48:2 YHVH of Hosts is His Name. Yeshayahu 51:15 YHVH of Hosts is His Name. Yeshayahu 54:5 YHVH of Hosts is His Name. Yirmeyahu 16:21 And they shall know that My Name is YHVH. Just a small sampling but bottom line, the fact that YHVH is written 6,826 times in His Word speaks to the fact that Our Heavenly Father wants us to know His Name. Exodus 3:15 YHVH …This is My Name forever, and this is My remembrance to all generations. Praise Yah!
