This fretless Stradi bass is phenomenal

- Check out my new fretless Stradi bass! This is the most expressive instrument I’ve ever had, the vibrato, sustain, and definition are spectacular. Here’s the first solo piece with lots of fun double stops, mwah, staccato fingerstyle, slides and some funky improvisation. It took 3 weeks a few hours a day to write, rehearse, and perform this in one take. The first bonding time with a new instrument is always special, but this bass triggers my brain like no other, it’s beyond inspiring to experience its sonic possibilities. Been playing fretless for some time but didn’t know this much definition in tone, sustain and resonance could be present, seems an ultimate blend of modern in-your-face sound and classical finesse with all its benefits.
Marek Dąbek is one of the finest luthiers around today, together with his wife Agnieszka this most wonderful couple builds these amazing instruments with incredible eye for detail. The stunning fingerboard is made of Bocote, with an Amazaque neck and solid roasted Alder body, the top wood is quartersawn Oak with a Shou Sugi Ban finish, all woods are made from one piece. Pickups are Delano Xtender and a custom piezo with Glockenklang preamp, slide pots and coil switch are on the back. It has an Ebony bridge and nut, Gotoh tuners and strap locks, glow in the dark Luminlay side markers and silver eyelets with crushed turquoise. The top wood is treated with fire, Japanese Yakisugi style.
I used Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings, the bocote fingerboard is hard and takes roundwounds well. I used 3 pedals: a Rodenberg 707b clean booster, a Darkglass Hyper Luminal compressor and at some parts a Boss OC-2 octaver. I used my Eich T-1000 amp and recorded into a Focusrite preamp into my laptop into Cubase.
Drums by Jack Irons (RHCP/Pearl Jam). He recorded and mixed it himself, I recorded this take on his stereo mix and mixed it in Cubase. No post processing or plugins used, just some volume adjustments, mastering was done with Ozone. More recordings in the works!
This type of Stradi bass is called Symphony. I named this bass Symphony Cora, after my dear late mother who loved my fretless playing for its soothing sound. I wrote “White Orchid” ( • Melodic Fretless Bass ... ) beside her during her last months back in 2011 and with this Stradi bass I’m now recording the full band version of the song. I’m fortunate to be friends with Marek and Agnieszka and they were around when we started the studio recording in LA last February, we envisioned it would take the sound to the next level. I played White Orchid on a 5-string Stradi similar to this bass, owned by producer John Heintz, and we couldn’t think of a better fretless sound to fit the song. Only thing was, for my fingerstyle playing I need some space underneath the strings, so for this built Marek made a recess in the extended fingerboard at my plucking position, the result couldn’t have turned out better and I’m very grateful. White Orchid should be out later this year!

The voicing is just incredible, you sure can make that bass talk
If someone deserves a bass of this quality, it's you, since you will get the most out of it.
Yes!!! I want one of those!!! How much and where can I get it?!?
the right hand technique gets me everytime
btw I will buy my first bass next month because of you, thanks for your badass videos and being my inspiration
Awesome to hear that, wish you all the best with your playing!
Exactly! It will be a nice journey! Good luck and study hard. As I often say, bass guitar is the easiest instrument to play. But playing properly? Without mistakes, with a good timbre and groove? Well they say diamonds are the hardest thing in the world. I disagree. Playing proper bass is the hardest thing.
Stradi basses are so beautiful. When I first saw them I was blown away!
They also sound amazing, but again, in your hands, every fretless would sound amazing.
Thanks!
Bro I'm pretty sure that bass is illegal in at least 37 countries
😂
y
One of the coolest fretless tones I've heard. Really interesting eq on it too, the way the bass range sits almost sounds almost like a different instrument doubling the lines.
My sent me the link to this video and said, basically, "I love this guy..." I can see why. Great playing, tone....everything.
This man has the best finger style I've ever seen
Amazing playing, amazing sound.💯💥💫
They say the closer instrument is to imitation of human singing the more captivating it becomes to audience. And i am sure this bass just sang me a song
New inspiration..been playing 3 months and can't get enough
You are phenomenal, sir 🔥🔥🔥
I’s love the Fretless Bass now!!!❤️
So beautiful! The tone is unique and I dig it.
It really fits perfectly with your style of playing...more please! 👊😎
Amazing! You got me at 1:09!
Whoa; a classical version of the Chapman stick?
Beauty!

The funkiest Strad. Lovely
Thanks dude. That was real nice.
It's like the batmobile of bass guitars

If I go deaf and never hear another sound I've heard enough after hearing this 🤣🤣🤣🖤💛💯💪🏾
NGD for you was a great one! Good to see a new vid and this is pretty darn special. Enjoy the new axe and look forward to the next video!
Beautiful Clark!
the inlays are dope af 🔥
The way your feel and pocket fluctuated right towards the last few phrases to match the slightly fluctuating timbre is so fun to listen to
Better than ever !!! wonderful song skillfully played .U-B-the Dude !
Glad you're digging it George, much appreciated!
I can't recall ever hearing a bass sing before

I don’t even play bass, but have fielded the idea of buying one of these. They are just that beautiful. You certainly get the full potential out of yours.
Sound amazing. Love how the dots arc up and down. Incredible playing as always!
F'n INCREDIBLE!!!!
Super!
Very creative and the bass is really cool too.
Sounds great! Looks like something Lurch might have played in a 1970s Adam's Family cartoon series.
Looks so beautiful 🤩 enjoy 😇
WOOOO I love the bass and your playing
Oh man, that sounds killer! Great grooves as usual.
Sick grooves as always dude🤘
Reminds me of the Toejam and Earl soundtrack. Stay funky my man
Internet keeps pausing the video every few seconds…it’s that cool of an instrument 😂
Sweet playing.... very cool 😊
What a work of art, deserves a master artist like yourself
Very cool. Reminds me of the Wishbass lobe bases I saw back in the 2000s. His weren't as polished, but similar vibe.
Beautifunk ❤
That's a badass bass!! Nice groove too.
Remco + fretless = 🤘😎🤘
epic as always
Dude you are truly one of the most unique players I’ve heard
youve come a long way from the white jazz fretless from back in the day. BTW the white jazz is still my favorite. I would so put that thing to use
fantastically👍
A sad story for a beautiful song and bass name. Can't wait for the next iteration of the song.
very nice. i hope to see more of this one

Love the GrooveLab
My first fretless is coming in a few days, Remco being a big part of my strange need for a fretless bass.
That's marvelous, glad I've been able to inspire! You're gonna have so much fun!
Very very cool ! 👍🏆.
Ça groove méchamment bien 😛👍

This man plays the the Road Rash for Sega Genesis soundtrack
The best to ever do it
🙌🙌🙌
This bass' design is half bass half cello kinda ❤
King
That groovy
somebody flunked out of luthier school before finishing their cello assignment then decided, fuck it, turn it into a bass!
かっこいい!
i think it's ugly as sin but i couldn't click off the video. what a jam man, you are so comfortable playing that thing. keep killing it
insane. diameter of my eyes was proportional to time watched.
Guitarists and keyboard players: "Does that thing play roots?"
Actually incredible playing.
I have a dumb question, with fretless, does the fretboard wear out much quicker? You are sliding right on the wood.
I keep repeating it
ALL IS WELL AT THE RANCH
🎸
👍👍👍💪
Sounds like sega sonic music after the producer got super duper high
🥰🥰🥰
🔥🔥🔥🔥🆙🆙🆙🔥
Groovy 😎. How many instruments do you own, anyway, Remco? 🤔 Just curious.
Around 20 basses, 7 are fretless :) Cheers for stopping by!
Jack Irons?
Fr, you got to jam with a Pepper?
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Yes Jack and I are working on new music and have been recording together in the studio. We already have a song out on vinyl, check out the previous 2 videos on this channel for split screen performances with Jack. I'm fortunate to be friends, he has so much groove in his playing and is an amazing human being!
on pitch! ;-)
🖐
any tips for a bassist? been playing for a little over two years and i got about 7 tool songs under my belt and im just curious what you would tell a bassist as they move forward in their journey. you were a big part of my desire to start dedicating to the instrument and i love your videos man. thank you
Thanks, glad to hear that! I'd say explore and have as much fun as possible, play a lot to build stamina and pocket. Rules are there to be broken, just as Chancellor did, developing your own style is most rewarding in the long run. Take everything you love from all styles you like and blend it into you. Best of luck with your playing!
Not that you asked me, but please let me chime in with a tip too. Play with other people if you aren't already. Get in a band. It will change (for the better) how you handle any mistakes you make, it will force you to get better faster, and it's a hell of a lot of fun. Oh, and keep a tube of super glue in your case (double bag it) - you might have to glue a cracked callous in the middle of a gig.
@@drjohnleewilliamsiii my biological brother is a drummer and our brother from another mother is a guitarist, i got pretty lucky with that. its honestly the biggest reason ive been so dedicated these past two years. i appreciate you giving tips too. anything helps, i love hearing insight from other bassists
👍👍👍👍🥇🥇🥇🥇
