This hasn't been an easy-straightforward build by any means. But you have overcome all the difficulties that it's thrown at you admirably. I think this is your best build to date and you get my vote. You must be very proud of this beautiful instrument!
Thank you! It’s only when you put these full build videos together that you realise all the bits that go into making the guitar. I always appreciate your comments and advice and although I’m supporting my friends in the #jurgscup I’m not wanting to be in the voting, the challenge for me is to make the thing. All the best, cheers Dave
I used shielded cable throughout, just not keen on shielding paint. I use it with my band at rehearsals and It’s pretty quiet. Thank you for your advice. Cheers Dave
Yes its a bit neck heavy, its quite a chunky neck which doesn't help. I usually play in my home studio but recently I have been rehearsing with the band using this bass and it's really great - very light and the tendency to neck dive isn't a problem. Thanks for your comments!. Cheers Dave
It’s an awesome guitar, sometimes these things take a while but hang in there! Oh and I always get to the end of a build and think, this is no good, there’s a bodge here and a bodge there. The thing is once it’s all strung up all those things just disappear. Cheers Dave
Hey Dave! I just subscribed to your channel.I saw you on Guitar Builder's Collective this morning, and really was intrigued with your builds. Love your work man! This bass is awesome. -Big Unit
okay. I have a Dean edge 09; and put-on cobalt strings. I'm really new to bass, having started with nylon acoustic; but actually, my fat fingertips are no problem with bass. thanks, Dave
I really enjoy playing bass, it’s part of the foundation of the band and you can really make a difference to the sound. Good luck with your playing! Cheers Dave
You didn’t miss it. In the series on this build I covered every aspect in detail. Some of this ended up on the cutting room floor in the summarised full build edit. It’s just a single two way truss rod. Cheers Dave
its a beautifully made basguitar , just wonder if it balance out hanging from a guitarstrap , with all the weight removed from the back part of the body i immagine that the neck want to keep dropping down might be able to counter it by casting a lead block(s) that are small enough to feed intoo the body through the opening of the rear pickup and somehow use the screw of the rear strap button to tie it to the back of the body
You are right it does suffer from neck dive. The total weight is 3kg about .6kg lighter than a typical Fender P Bass. I mainly use this in my home studio so the balance is not really an issue but your suggestion is a great idea. Thank you. Cheers Dave
@@DaveDickens its a pitty you didnt test it before gluing on the top wouldve been eazier to counterweight it , another option wouldve been to extend the top horn in the buildphase but that wouldve drasticly changed the overall look of the bas
@@watahyahknowfair point and something to remember for the future. I did want to create a light guitar but of course a long neck bass is bound to be neck heavy. I suppose another approach would be to put the strap peg on the back of the neck. Ah well it plays nice so that’s all good. Thanks. Cheers Dave
Not better just different. A hollow body is much lighter to carry but the guitar will tend to be neck heavy. I use mind in a studio environment sitting down so the neck dive is not a problem and I prefer it lighter. I also practice with the guitar unplugged so the hollow body gives a little more acoustic sound. Otherwise its just the same as a solid body. Hope this helps. Cheers Dave
Dave, (as I have said before) that’s ace. Loved this build and the aesthetics are spot on, the headstock and the body curves. You’ve inspired me to have a crack at a bass after I (eventually) finish my Jurgs build. With split post tuners I cut the strings to the next post along, pop the end down the shaft and wind. Locks them in tight and no sharp edges. I realise I’m probably telling you how to suck eggs, but someone may find that useful 😂
Gorgeous build. Although I was somewhat triggered watching that bridge being installed. Just don't expect a quality, handcrafted instrument to have the same equipment as my $100 Chinese junk.
Low budget I’m afraid but if it plays okay, can be adjusted and looks reasonable, then it ticks my boxes. I do like to make my own bridges and tailstops, the Kingfisher and Fireflower guitars are examples of this. Thank you for your comment. Cheers Dave

Nice build Dave, it’s nice to see that you do must of the build by hand, I see so many doing builds with cnc routers. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! Yes I love working with wood by hand, cnc machines aren’t for me. Cheers Dave
That looks awesome.
Very kind, thank you! Cheers Dave
Love the body contrasts and then that fretboard! Wow it’s very nice!

what a beauty! Awesome version of a classic!

It’s beautiful maybe some shielding paint or tape on the inside in the future Especially with Jazz Bass pick ups

Wow, creative design. Love your music, too.

Beautiful build and terrific workmanship!! I wonder, though, how much neck dive that bass might have.

I certainly had fun making this as you will appreciate with all the wonderful instruments you make. Cheers Dave
Looks great sounds great Dave. 👍
Thank you! How’s the guitar coming on? Cheers Dave
@@DaveDickens slow. Very slow.
@DaveDickens I keep having to go back and change things that worked OK at the time but don't work now. All things to consider on the next build.

That's the weirdest way to build I have seen yet, I really love it!
Oh it gets weirder 😂 thank you. Cheers Dave
I normally cringe at scarf joints, but that is one beautiful and complex build. Nice Chris Squire-type bass at 18mins too. 👍

beautiful work but the sound seems rather guitar-like, is there a video where you can hear what the sound is like?
Thank you. I haven’t had a chance to do a demo yet, hopefully soon. Cheers Dave
