    Whenever I'm tempted by the 690 platform, I watch your videos and remind myself 'never again'. Sticking with the humble, reliable little WR for the long stuff, and my exc350 for the fun stuff

    You have now shown me the track I want to do most on the Simpson. The other routes have been interesting but this one is my favorite so far. Thank you for the detail you put into the presentations.

    Great video Tom great to see that track. Don’t feel bad my 701 did not even make it to the Simpson. It blew up on the shakedown trip 😅and is had to bring my 90000 ks bike it replaced out of retirement to do the trip.

      I had my wr250r for less then a year before I moved up to the 701. Never looked back. Rode to the Arctic 2 times, no issues.

      @@BlackdogADVI still wish ktm did a complete 690 adventure bike. Watch ducati do a 698 adventure with new 698 mono engine and sell every single one.

    This is a far more interesting video than I thought it would be. I ride throughout the winter here in the Pacific Northwest and I keep the air flow through my lid to a minimum. I might just work on this.

    Nice old trusty gopro footage. Keep it simple, love it. Oh on the topic. It´s tempting to retire the dr650 and move to more modern platform 701/690, but always when I just got myself hyped up a good reality check comes along and.... Yeah nah thanks.

    my 09 690 radiator was also a POS. seems ktm havent changed anything. They need a full guard around them. very thin metal.
    No one carries metal putty? fixes all our leaks in a pinch.

    i had a rock split the rubber coolant tube on my wr, took it like ten miles back no overheating lol the sewing machine will never die

      I always wrap an old handgrip around exposed coolant hoses

    I’ve used pepper surprisingly successfully repairing a radiator in a Toyota coaster. Always thought it was a myth but I can confirm, it not only works, but works well ✅

      Used pepper as well, worked straight away. Lasted 1000's kms no problems.

      Loving this trip! Had to wait for your footage to catch up closer to Nerb though, so I didn’t keep getting everything mixed up in my head about who’s where and what’s happening.
      Glad it seems as though you at least got the SD Cards and footage back. Hopefully you’ll tell us about that at some point 👌🏼

      Yes, it's amazing stuff. I patched a pinhole in wife's crf250l radiator a couple of years ago and its still holding up perfectly.

    Your very brave doing a 3 day trip across the Simpson desert with under 10 litres of water! I hope you guys carry either satelite phones or emergency distress beacons,if something goes wrong way out in the middle of bum fck nowhere your screwed. If a roo jumps out at you going at that speed man your getting cleaned up big time on a bike,ive seen what red kangaroos do to cars let alone hitting one on a bike!
