    Looks like they were spaced nicely 4-6 and as soon as they got close together you guys made a u turn and cut the tape, Smart move.

    Definitely some good size waves. No doubt in my mind they were 4-6 with the occasional 8. However, that being said, the waves were spaced very well making it easier to run. If they were a 4-6' gulf chop stacked up in 3-4 second intervals even 35' center consoles would be turning around. Still looks like a great boat, hopefully me next boat.

      Steven Bradshaw there were no 6 or 8 foot waves there not even 4 foot maybe 2-3 the most..

      Black beast E550.. there were some 4-6 waves. If you measure the backside of the waves. Waves look smaller on camera.

    This is Perdido Pass in Orange Beach, AL. Sea just outside the inlet were over 8', at the mouth of the inlet they were solid 6', just inside they were 4', and well inside they were 2-3' rollers. Those are the facts, feel free to argue them however you want. Waves always look much smaller on video. One key is to note the waves crashing over the rocks.

      Unless you are taking waves beam-to, 6-8 foot seas (arguable in this case) are not a threat to a 26' boat even if shes not a deep V. Scary? Yes. Dangerous? No.

      @jimquantic 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Looks pretty bad out there, good boat handling. The only thing that occurred to me was for the guy up top to come down when it's rough. More likely to tip with him up there, I would think. Maybe you got that covered, I don't know.

      Said it just as I thought it. We had a 22' trihull bow rider and wanted to fish so bad we took it out of Marathon and found 10 foot rollers. We could have trolled but why the hell stay out in that crap. Some years later we then moved up to a closed bow, 26' with an I/O. That deep V held us safe in plenty of nasty water, probably in seas that we shouldn't have been in but work all week long and need to relax and fish the weekend, well that's how it was when young and daring. A good sailor never talks down another's experiences, too many variables you really have to be there. I mean how to explain sitting in nice calm water in the Atlantic, anchored on a reef maybe in 100' of water and notice something strange a ways out. As it comes closer it sure looks like a damn wave. Yep, about an 8 foot rogue. We just had enough time to pull anchor an point the bow at it and move to it. Would we have capsized taking it abreast? Maybe.

      Waves do always look smaller on camera.... even standing on the beach, they look smaller.. you gotta be there to appreciate them correctly lol

    Come on Chris. You know there are not 8' seas that day. That looks like a pretty normal day going out of Orange Beach. Been through there 100 times in a 24' Sea Fox bay boat that looked almost that bad. The one thing that gives it away is the guy in the tower. You won't see anybody in a Cobia tower on a 30' offshore boat if it was that bad.

      i have a 22 footer higher deadrise and with a full lookout tower my first day out in solid 4 footers close together my dingy nephew decides to get about 8 feet higher than the t-top so i had to yell at him because i do not know the boats ability to rebound quick enough wih an additional 200 lbs higher in the air and tilting from one side to the other ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, long story short there are some dumb people , so just cause something can be done doesnt mean it is smart .

  • @equineandcountryproperties6241
    @equineandcountryproperties6241 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I have a 25' Steiger with a 14 degree dead rise and nice steep bow entry. It weighs 8,000 lbs wet and has trims tabs, with a 9' 3" beam. I have no problem in offshore or near shore seas. Just trim down the bow and slow it down. The wide beam reduces rolling and with less dead rise I get better fuel economy. Look at he whole design of the hull. Not just for a Deep V.

    Those are inlet rollers that are easy. My dinghy could handle those. Put it in a 4-6ft chop and see what it can do.

    Taken my Century 2101 Bay Boat in 4 ft seas quite a few times. Rough and wet but no safety concerns. Really depends on the dominant period between waves.

    This is one of the very few good videos of actual wave sizes. Most don't show them well cause they're behind eisenglass trying to stay dry or just hanging hard. Hard to hold a camera and hang on at the same time. It's like standing up in your truck bed while you drive around town.

    Average day with that kind of wind on Lake Huron. Easy peezy in my 13' Whaler. Looks like fun, though. You'd never get nice waves like that on Lake Erie, however. The guy in the tower would be crapping all over his compatriots by the time this video ended.

    The camera seemed to cut out just as things were getting big. The front free board height and flare is the key, I don't care what the brand is. This boat seemed manageable if you got caught but I wouldn't use it for that on purpose.

      I’m an old man now, and an old sailor, ..one quick way you tell the height of waves close to you is to site the height of the approaching wave with the horizon. If the wave crosses the horizon then it is the height of your eye or higher, and your feet will possibly be 1ft above the surface anyway ...giving the wave a height of approx 6 to 7 ft.........I saw that in this video

    Compliments in showing this, people who sell boats always want to show bikini girls, drinks in hands, dead calm conditions. One other thing that needs to be shown--"what to do if" sort of videos. What to do if....you lose the engine, which can happen in a heartbeat, even with a brand new engine, that's just one example. What to do IF, water starts pouring in-for sure, you don't have a lot of time to think, so maybe you should have thought about that "what if" in advance. What if, you receive a mayday--can you determine where they are--how far you are from them and plot a course to them--damn fast? What to do if....a fire starts, or someone goes overboard, what do you do right now--what next? The list is pretty long and we really need videos on the various problems that can happen on the water. What do you do--if suddenly you detect--forget the weather report that said it would be a calm day, what do you do if you notice the wind change directions and pick up a bit? What do you do if you are approaching a dock-and the wind is WILD--how do you approach that dock--which side do you come up on-why? If you want to boat--ocean or even lake, there are some things you should think about long before the situation comes up. We need lots of videos along those lines
