  • Inflatable Kayak - Catastrophic Air Loss Test | Gumotex Twist 2 -
Following on from the previous test in The Ironing Board (GoPlus Drop Stitch Kayak) here's a test in the Gumotex Twist a.k.a. The Pea Pod.
What would happen if you got a puncture or leak and lost most of the air in your boat - in this case the floor chamber and a side chamber?
This is the second test of a series I'm doing along these lines.
    Coming soon - The Brent!
Featuring Single Handicap Spriggsy of ‪@JamesRobinsonGolf‬ fame 😀

Another really useful one Karlos. You're teasing me with the Brent video aren't you, making me wait 😁

Very useful insight, especially for me as I also have a Gumotex Twist (albeit a single seater). Illustrates the safety advantage of a multiple air chamber IK.

Yes it does indeed. Not sure if it comes across in the video because the audio was a bit naff but I emptied 2, side and floor because I figured something might catch both but would be unlikely to catch all 3.
I think this should be reassuring for all similar, 3 chambered crafts 👍😊

Good test. Like you said, at sea with any waves it would have taken on water very quickly but still worked as a inflatable life raft.

Yes absolutely! I find the experience of these tests reassuring, so far 😀👍

👍💖 I think I would have tried to straddle the aired chamber (like riding a pool noodle) to be able to more efficiently use the paddle. Thank you for this.

I would carry an inflated river tube for such emergency.

A good test, Karl. 👍 I remember folks at Gumotex were doing a similar one with Framura.
My only concern is that both chambers caught water and the inner layer of Nitrilon is natural rubber - might get damaged in the long run. It might also be tricky to dry it properly and the valves might not be fully airtight now - something to verify I suppose.

Hi Karl, I already did this test with my Intex Excursion proK1. I placed the paddle under the cord of my seat and stomach and started to hang on the inflatable side. Far enough to be able to swim with both my arms and legs. I didn't had a paddle cord but I came safely to the side with paddle and kayak. That way you push both the paddle and the kayak with your body. How I climbed on the side after that, hahaha, it's never graceful.🤭🤭(Especially not ,in my case,if you haven't used waterproof mascara).😂

Exits and entries seldom are graceful 😂
Yes, as I noticed myself, it would have been easier if I'd swam with it. Good work on testing this out yourself Lexie 👍😀

@@MoreThanJustaCleaner I had open heart surgery (new heart valve) a few years ago. Before I started kayaking, I carefully considered all dangers but also safety. For example, kayaking in the winter is definitely a no go for me.I have tried several kayaks this summer but I think a drop stitch sup kayak is better and safer for me. That's why I watch your videos with great interest, especially about the GoPlus.
