  • There was a tornado of baby bowfins!! I caught some amazing footage of a bowfin with babies. Excited I was able to capture it on film. Such an awesome moment!! Amazing to see a "predator fish" be so gentle. Definitely something you don't see everyday!

Well done! I don't think I've ever seen this documented. Great work. You may want to make a small correction in the description. As with many fish species, it's the male, NOT the female, that guards and protects the young.

Definitely a fish that is misunderstood, most people consider them a trash fish but they are anything but. I really appreciate this species, they fight hard and been around since the dinosaurs. Thanks for the comment 👊

Your not alone in that. The most misunderstood fish there is. Pan fishers love to toss em ashore to die it's sickening. God forbid I ever witness it the person's gonna wish they didn't. 💪

@@nickfoco1977i believe its more of a fact they are uninformed because this native fish very often gets confused for a snakehead which are invasive in most places

Love the video. Just discovered I have Bowfin in my private lake. The only thing in it is bowfin and gills. The lake is rarely fished. Had one nail my worm bait while I was fishing for bluegill. I had no idea what it was! Ran and got my bass rod. To my suprise it was still there and aggressively attacked the lure. My buddy said it was a snakehead and to kill it. I looked it out and found all about this very cool fish. It weighed 10lb 10oz. Saw it again. Turns out "he"was guarding the babies that were in the shallows. I thought it was tad poles. There is another one that is even bigger. He has only bit once so far and straightened my hook right out! Thanks for this footage.

Doing some more research after catching my first bowfin at my secret spot, and holy shit it’s my best so far, 2 foot fatty, 24” even. These fish are insane fighters and I would even go as far as to call them predator fish. In my studies I found the most likely fish in that low oxygen water would be the gar, bowfin, and black bullhead catfish (which we caught one of before in these waters lol). This video was absolutely amazing, such a sick creature to let you film without him swimming off! These things seem to be a tough fish to locate/catch/film etc… took me 6 months of religiously fishing that little pond to catch the monster! Half a hotdog on a circle hook is all it took too 🤦‍♂️ not the worms, fancy swim baits, poppers, jitterbugs, jigheads, or even a rubber frog which seems to be a main source of food out there! I hope that bait tip helps any other angler shooting for mudfish too lol! Thanks again for such a cool video

My favorite fish pound for pound blows a northern Pike out the water when it comes to the harder fighter. Makes me sick when I see them just thrown off shore to rot. Pathetic. That's a good dad right there(males keep there spot) females lose the spot.
