A lungfish spends each dry season asleep underground, waiting for the waters to arrive before emerging. As the waterhole dries up at the end of the wet season, it will bury down to spend the dry season safely cocooned in the mud.

There's something incredible bizarre about seing a fish surfacing and gasping for air lmao
They have evolved
But the most weird thing is, lungfish have some anatomically similarities with land dwelling animal including human
@@prasetyodwikuncorojati2434 they’re genetically the closest living relatives to land dwelling vertebrates
@@prasetyodwikuncorojati2434probably because they're evolving to be land animals.

I am basically a fish that breathes oxygen...
that's right
All fishes "breathe" oxygen
Difference being that gills absorb oxygen from the water while this fish uses air
Everything tastes like rust but with a different flavor
@@amaulana090 FISH not fishes
❤❤😂@@twonumber22
Fun fact: An Australian variant of the Lungfish actually has both gills AND lungs! It can breathe in and out of water.
Of course, Australia is a different planet!
They can’t aestivate, though.
@q-miiproductions878 Interesting. That whole concept of aestivation is disturbing to me (read: icky) mainly because they can remain in that state for up to 5 years. I imagine a severe drought lasting 3-4 years, then upon a normal rainy season, all these slimy-looking creatures begin to emerge from the ground. I think it would be like a version of "Night of the Living Dead"! Eek!!
The lung fish is an absolutely fascinating creature!

Up to 5 years 😳
@@emmao109 YES, that part got a reaction out of me, too!
I have seen some other shows, featuring these tough little ombre's. But, I don't recall hearing THAT.
Nature...consistently blows my mind!
at one point every animal was like that, even us. we still have old gill muscles that sometimes spasm causing hiccups
Well on a small scale it's like a WHALE!
(Because like whales they have to breath air)
woah sheesh, u telling me he just AFK in the mud for 5 years?
tierzoo could make a video about this fish
What is afk
It means "away from keyboard" but is also just used to mean idle/away@@ChrisHarris2288
away from keyboard
@ayeshak9309 thanks mate 👍
For all those creationists looking at "transitional fossils"... this is the clip to watch. For one there are no "transitional" creatures per se, only creatures that adopt to their environment and successfully reproduce. There is no directional development towards something, only small, gradual adaptions based on the creatures present genetic make-up. The lungfish is not "stuck" on a development path but good enough adapted to its environment to successfully reproduce. But the lungfish shows how the transition happend from a fully aquatic creature to one that gradually adapts to a terrestrial life. Breathing atmospheric air, developing limbs for landbased locomation, developing features for surviving in dry conditions.
everybody gangsta ‘til the fish starts walking 🏝 🐟
LUNGFISH: I had to live in this cruel world.
To think one footprint holds that much life 😮
Africa is so beautiful with so many hidden gems literally♥️
yes except the people
@@incognitobowl 💀
go live in africa
@@incognitobowlI know right, if only they stopped letting Europeans steal their resources.
@@KochoStojank0v 🗿 they are not hidden, are they?
This phenomenon not only underscores the incredible diversity of life on Earth but also highlights the ingenuity of nature in finding solutions for survival in various habitats.
Life, uh... well you know the rest.
Love how this 2 minute video was taken over the course of a few months
All fish breathe oxygen. There is simply a difference in where they get it.
Yes but majority of them use gills except fish such as the lungfish which can use both gills and lungs
Both gills and lungs? Evolution says that Gill's dissipate as long as are developed,
so which is it lungs or gills but not both can be evolution! also this is the only fish on planet Earth out of the billions that this has ever happened to,
sorry that's not Evolution that is creation once again
Evolution didn't happen because this fish is not supposed to stay a fish, it's supposed to develop or evolve into a reptile!
All life was created with the same seed inside of it to reproduce the same species, as this one has
Anything that keep the lie going but guess what!
Evolution didn't happen, it's a fraud
This is not proof of evolution, once again this is proof of creation. Another fraud perpetrated on the weak minded that'll take anything or accept anything except that God created everything.
@@jimmybiggs9856 I'm a believer and i get why Evolution is wrong i can disagree but evolution can happen to some point not endlessly like they all believe. The world that our Lord created is a powerful and amazing machine it can addapt to many things.
And you won't needed to bring all that to say the other commenter was wrong. Even in the video it says that he need to get to he surface every few minutes to breath when underwater. So he doesn't have gills.
@@alunkard-geovane2685 Evolution is both endless and also has a point. Evolution helps life forms adapt and survive its environment - and this is endless because the environment is constantly changing over time. The Catholic Church, most Jews, and many Protestant Christians have accepted evolution as the mechanism of the Judeo-Christian God.
@Alunkard -Geovane
MAKE SOME EFFORT TO DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH LAZY BOY - it has BOTH lungs and gills
(evolution is a million long year process- very very very slow)
I heard about those Fishes. Not only are they from Africa, “Such as what we see here.” But also in South America & Australia. They’re one of the few Fish that haven’t changed in Millions of Years. At least there weren’t any Shoebills around to eat one of these Lungfish. I’ll have to wait & find out & see what the rest of this program has for us on the 1st week of November.
athiests be like: "go grandpa"
Admirable the work of the cameraman!
WOW! 5yrs?!!
I never knew there was a fish out there that breath air wow amazing discovery tysm
Another example is in a petstore near you. Check out the Betta fish, they do not have a lung, but a different air breathing organ. You can see them every now and then, gulping air from the surface.
Amazing. I'm not even sober and I'll still remember this. Thank you
Truly a primordial ooze moment! So cool 😎🤯
A beautiful amazing fish love her
This is probably the most bizarre thing I've seen a fish do. I didn't even know they did this .
Hibernate for 5 years..incredible!!
Truly an amazing creature
Absolutely amazing!
"The Fish That Breathes Oxygen"
aka all of them?
Yeah they meant air
This is kinda sad. If you actually think about it
It’s amazing how they’ve adapted to their surroundings. Probably one of our greatest survivors - over 400 million years.
every fish breathes oxygen. every living animal breathes oxygen. gills just allow aquatic creatures to pull oxygen out of the water.
Thank you I thought I was the only one that took science class in elementary school to understand that all living creatures breathe oxygen in one form or another thank you for schooling these people.
@@jimmybiggs9856 yeah, dumb titles like this really makes you question the accuracy in these videos 🤣
@@jimmybiggs9856 damn someone better get that elementary school geacher fires then
@@jimmybiggs9856 Uuugh, not every living creature breath oxigen 🤓
@@emptyglass7867 I'm a teacher, many are not aware of this. You clearly are not a part of the educational system. These dumb titles really are misleading people.
Using the mandible to wedge and pull along the ground was a form of locomotion I was not familiar with.
Lungfish:should gone to land like my cousin joe he has a huge family now!!!!!
We're seeing the missing link between fish and amphibians.
This is incredible
5 YEARS….DAM!!!!
This lung fish looks like it is the result of matting between a fish and some amphibian
Fascinating mudfish
Um.
All fish breathe oxygen.
You mean 'air'.
Lungfish are my favorite animal 💜
UHH-MAZING!!!😮 THAT WAS SUPER INCREDIBLE TO LEARN ABOUT AND ACTUALLY SEE THE LUNGFISH WALKING ON GROUND!!! OUTTA THE WATER!!!😮 WWOWW!!!🤓 WE HAVE AN INCREDIBLY PHENOMENAL GOD AND CREATOR!!! THANKS FOR SHARING!!! 😃👍🏽🙋🏽♀️🔥🙏🏽👑✝️📖🔥
How on earth they get the camera down there without alerting the fish
Looks like evolution right in front of our eyes being live.
Incredible
Wow.. Amazing 👌🏽
Dude’s got it all backwards lol!
Cute fish
That is an oxygen fish that I ever seen in my life can you believe me guys? I love lungfish
The firs vertebrate on land, burrowed in transient pool-beds ahead of receding waters, to be encrusted while gestating, laying and incubating spawn, awaiting seasonal tide, when emergence triggers hatching; mothers trudge to open-water overland some distance from their fry's puddle, their nursery until water levels rise sufficiently or they're forced to make a break for it on their own walking-fins. Adults scuttle, burrow between waves, and used the danger of stranding as an aquatic defense, I hypothesize.
"Your mom is so stupid, she tried to drown a fish"
"Nahh dog, you're the stupid one who doesn't know fish can drown"
if only a man can live like this... no eating for five years... then there will be no more greed in the heart of every man.
no greed, just evil. evil killing humans and animals for fun. and being protected by "the law"
Nature's beautiful ❤️
It's a damn mudkip!
facts : lung fish ,some catfish and also most of the channa/snakehead can breath out of the water without water rumming down
they come up the surface to breath air ;)
All fish breathe air. They just do it another way than us. ^^
5 years???? Holy cow.
FIVE YEARS???? WTF! What The Fish!!
Beautiful
Wow.. living fossil
And what about whales and dolphins?
Guys, this is what some of your oldest grandparents used to look like. 💀
Wow!
Why is no one talking about how cute the turtle is
Know those bumps on the roof of your mouth? Those used to be gills.
Wish there was a documentary on bichir ,its like nobody ever did one
So great
You and me are technically fishes breathing air too
Bro forgot to evolve
Yes . Its true . Si Many times i caught this fish during fishing
Their gills are capable for consume Oxygen from water and air!
Evidence of Our Evolutionary Ancestors Crawling out of the Sea onto the Land
0:28 *AUUGHHH*
Lung fish could never, decided whether to live on land or in water.
Had it evolved into land creatures, it would be running like a cheetah.
5 years..!😮
Atheists be like “go grandpa”
The fish that beathes air
I can’t wait to get one for my fish tank
It can survive up to 5 YEARS???? Wow!
I heard they can survive up to 80 years
This fish will survive an apocalypse that we humans won't
There is absolutely nothing primitive about this fish.. - It's hardcore adapted to survive even years without water.. - Simplified perfection.
Primitive in an evolutionary context simply means that the said adaptation appeared many, many years ago, and usually more complex variations emerged from it as time went on. For example, the lung of a lungfish is more simple than that of a mammal or bird, and it is more similar to the first lungs that appeared millions of years ago.
Jeremy Wade caught one on the River Monsters…
Awasome fabulous video
Lungfish is my totem we call it mmamba in our language (luganda) from central Uganda what I can this fish is special God created it in a special way the stuff it does just wondering
and in 100 of millions years it hasn’t grown legs
Yeah but plenty of their relatives did
Ushon tok ampo kanninne lu.. 👍
How does it breathe under the mud?
Its just as weird as the tadpole and a frog
In Africa you see lung fish crawl out of peoples home when it’s build with mud during wet season
So pretty!
“It can survive like this for 5 years”
… say what?!
it's funny we still call them fish when they are more closely related to us than they are to a tuna, or piranha.
"Breath air"
*Now I realize that there's a fish who can have lung cancer*
The fish that besthes air
WOW
Can live in this state for 5 years?
I found a video in which the African natives were digging out these fish from the bottom of a river which was totally dried up
Don't all fish breathe oxygen?
Must suck being a fish that needs air.
Nice
wow
Wow 5yrs
I am one too
