I always said the best skater in a park is the one smiling the most! I could not agree more with everything you said! thank you for the shout out Kevin and we are looking forward to you coming on the podcast for a chat!
Couldn't agree with you anymore about the whole taking your time with a new set up, I changed my whole set up not overly long ago and got very discouraged about my flip tricks took me awhile to get used to a bigger board. I was actually very surprised how big a difference I found between my 8.12 and my 8. Altho I found it so much easier to balance on the 8.12 the 8 it's just the perfect size for me. Thanks heaps for shouting out Another Skatebaording Channel and the podcast, will be awesome to have you on there real soon! PS I could skate those ledges all day hahaha, they look so much fun!
8.0 gang here! i do own a 8.75 shaped board that i need to get softer wheels to cruise around but my main whip is 8.0, 52mm, Thunder 147 hollow lights, MOB grip.
Not going to lie. When Kevin landed the trick at 6:23 I was happy. If it were me I'd have probably thrown or kicked the board in frustration. Great to see him stick through it all.
Thanks! I try not to get super mad anymore. I occasionally will throw the board or scream but its a lot more rare these days. One of the great things about just skating for fun and not comparing myself to others.
Good stuff. Haven’t been on a 8” board for almost a year. Don’t even remember what it feels like. But I do have a 8.125” that I’ll get to at some point. Looking forward to it but for now I’ve got some 8.5”+ decks to go through first.
I really like your channel Kevin, I hadn't seen this video, I've been skating for 4 months and I'm having a lot of doubts, I've been trying 8.125, it feels lighter but small, but my 8.375 board feels heavy but it's very stable, I can ride on the street fast and especially with wheels 54 to 56, regards dude
Glad u found a winter home for those Indys:) that Tired deck looks like a fun little shape..also, u must have a big foot cuz that 8.75 doesn't look big at all when you're skating it..looks like it'd be your usual size:/ sick setups either way..enjoyed
Haha yeah I wear a size 12 us in most shoes. They both are fun and have a purpose but I just prefer an 8"- 8.25" as my go to standard (I wanna flip this thing around) board.
i like a variety with shapes/sizes. i'd like to have at least 2 setups, a standard/popsicle and a shaped board. right now i have 5 setups, after picking up a few 'quitter completes' from marketplace. usually 8-8.25" on popsicles and 9"+ on shapes
I’ve skated everything from 7.75 and 8.75 and once a 10in. I realize length affects how I skate more maybe cus I’m short lol . I think an 8.25 that is short in length is what I need right now
@@KevinNiceTry to me anything below 14.25 wheelbase feels like a kid board to me, I prefer 14.5 and up, I'd be stoked to see a board that's 8.25 wide but had a 14.75-15 inch wheelbase
That's the beauty of skateboarding, just like a guitar everyone has a different style and technique. They even argue over whats the best for this sound or that sound. It's all personal preference at the end of the day.
I bought myself a wide one for the summer, for the first time in my life. Many say that, like, if the leg is 10us, then a supposedly wide board is needed. Decided to try. But 7.85 was fine with me. Let's see if I can really feel the difference.
Great content as always! I feel I have finally found my fav size board. Girl/Chocolate G052 shape. 8.25 wide, 31.875 long, 14 wheelbase, and an almost symmetrical 6.8 tail/6.875 nose. Just something about the Crailtap boards that just feels “right.” Mellow concave, yet sturdy/crispy feel. Haven’t found my “Goldilocks” truck yet, trying Tensor 5.5 Mag Lights currently. Love the light feel and grind, but I agree almost too light…Ace 44, Indy 144 (hallows), Thunder 148 (hallow) and Venture 5.5 are in the mix, but none have stood out. Enjoying the adventure of trying diff combinations. Same goes w/wheels, as it’s all over the place there 🙂 Happy Skating!
Nice comparison! Thanks! Ive started to skate in my late 30s, after 10+ years of snowboarding. And ive found that i like bigger boards - they feel slow and more secure under my feet. But im not flipping my board yet and prefer transition skating.
If I would do only thecnical flatground I´ll probably use 8,0, low trucks and 50mm wheels. I rode old school boards in the begining, than 7.75 and tried 8.5 last year. I ended up staying with a 8.25, mid trucks and 52 wheels because is a good overall setup. Still flips good, not so heavy and still a good room to land on it, stable on quarter pipes and I can downhill some places on it.
Buy all the boards 😂💙😂. That's my style. Nice work in the chunky ledges. I don't know how you got nose and tail slides in the first ledge without getting your she's caught up on the rough side. The manual looked real solid on the big board. Would be interested is seeing what kind of manny game you can pull on it. You are definitely more comfortable on the 8.0 but man the big board looked pretty comfy on the lands. 5050 shuv out on the ledge was 🔥. The parking block looks like a good time. I need to search out something like that. Steve and Twitchie are awesome. I like what they are doing with The Drop Inn and the Channel. Definitely look forward to you being on the show. I skated the Cab 9.265 today. I think I am going to like it. We will see. Stay Rad Sir.
You nailed it. Definitely more comfortable on the 8" but the manual and the 5050 shuv was big board for the win. Thanks for connecting me with those guys. Cheers buddy!
I started on an 8.38, then I went down to an 8, discovered that it was too small for me and bought an 8.5, which is my current and next setup. however, I do plan on trying a 8.625 in the future. with shoe size 12 that seems reasonable enough. although there are people who have the same shoe size and skate 7.75, its all about what you are used to.
Definitely, I have a size 12 us as well and love my 8" but some things feel much better on an 8.5+. If I'm skating ledges and flat I prefer a smaller board. It's all preference.
Ive ridden 2 Deathwish 8.25 boards and now ride an 8.38 Baker. I just put a huge chip/crack in the tail recenly at the skatepark 😭 i honestly might size down again after this board. I wanna try an 8.0 or 8.125. Mainly cuz im only 5'7 and my shoe size is like 8 1/2 or 9 depending lol. I thought the bigger size would help with landing etc but i feel like my pop wasnt what it was.
I used to skate 8.25 but I recently switched to a 8.38 and realized it’s just too big and bulky for my liking after losing 160 pounds I don’t throw around the same weight anymore so I ordered an 8.125 hopefully it’s the sweet spot I never tried one and felt 8s are too small for me to go back too.

8" yeah right! Sometimes 8.1 but please not higher in number for me for true skating, by a dh fun setup can all be fat imo!
@@unzulaessig8 and 7.75 for me too.. i have a 9.25 inlike as well but mostly 8

Haha yeah it's fun trying new stuff. I'm pretty happy on the 8" girl I think its the GO45 shape. But riding a big board is always a good time.
that DIY spot looks super fun!
Someone had to say it. Thank you! 👍

Definitely go with the bigger one but at the end of the day it's whatever feels best. I have a size 12 so 8.5 is perfect for me ha.

Nice man, cool thing is the DIY park is registered on G maps!
I like Buffalo!
I remember the 7.5 days. Still working up to a 8.0 but I think that's the max I would ever feel comfortable flipping around.
Yeah it just feels like a good for all skating size at my skill level.
