this is probably the most fan loved game ever... I always find people selling off all of their Gamecube shit, but hold onto Melee because of how amazing it was and fun to play with friends
I don't think this level of surprise can ever be duplicated with Smash. It wasn't a given that there would be a sequel, compared to now where its expected a new entry will always be on future consoles. Melee was made at the perfect time!
Well, this was the game that showed us how the classic gaming characters would look in a new generation, in other words, they were brought to life, gone were the days when mario were a bunch of sprites, and link an origami-like model. newer games could never repeat that again.
I wish I was that translator. To be able to tell such enthusiastic people not only about such an amazing game, but that they'd be able to play it in a day... Must have been so fun.
mrm64 I think he's talking about how many microphones and speakers would get blown-out from all the hype. The mega man reaction alone would cost Nintendo a fortune!
I'm getting giddy just watching it -- And I wasn't excited for anything before turning it on! At one point in the background you could hear someone say "That look super real!" Imagine what he thinks about today's games, haha.
The first time I saw that when playing the game for the first time, I thought that I intro was fucking epic. Every other time I would just skip it and say "meh." But watching it so many years later at its original e3, it's just a reminder of how great nintendo is at building excitement for a new game
Melee is the bomb! I was like, how old at this time, 7? And man a lot of crap went down in 2001, you guys know what Im talking about, but it was games like these that made you feel better in perilous times...as a kid at least...
I wouldn't go as far as to say it was better than the PS2. The PS2 owned the market during that generation of gaming. Had some of the best and most memorable titles. Not to say the GameCube and Dream Cast didn't have classics of their own.
I miss when games were this simple. If you died or lost, it was a temporary anger followed by the immediate desire to rematch. Can't get that in today's games.
omg! gamecube had maybe 20 good games? no way!!! that's almost as crazy as the 3,800 total games that came out on the Ps2 and the 200+ that were fantastic.
I read about that sometime between when I last posted that comment! I was shocked at this decision. I really hope other parts of the game are better though. Maybe like the online battling? When I played SSBB online, the controls were all delayed for me.
"fucking nothing." Legend of Zelda Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door, Super Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Luigi's Mansion, Eternal Darkness, once exclusives Resident Evil 4 and Viewtiful Joe, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, F-Zero GX, Animal Crossing, Pikmin 1 and 2, and many more, several of which consistently pop up on "Best of all Time" lists. The PS2 didn't have a monopoly on quality.
I was actually really looking forward to a story mode. But I agree, it's a multiplayer game first, so they should focus on that. As long as we get good ol' Classic Mode.
Ive seen this Intro billions of times but looking at these guys reaction to an improved smash bros. game make me kind of tear up and extremely happy even though the game is out dated!!!!
"the PS2 had every good game" The GameCube had: Pokemon XD/Colosseum SSB Melee Animal Crossing Metroid Prime 1 and 2 Resident Evil 4 / Remake ' Need List More?
"They really dug for that one"
- E3 Guy
I remember when I was 6 years-old and watching that.
...It still puts a tear in my eye...
Damm how old r u now
@@ssbgodvegeta2615 right now hes about 20
@@bigyoshi2731 hmm nice
You mean at e3? Or on youtube
Well at least one person noticed it was the Ice Climbers at first.
I know literally no one noticed the ice climbers until after lol
I can imagine the crowd cumming in their pants
God knows I did.
0:43 Ridley fans waiting for him to join since Melee
this is probably the most fan loved game ever... I always find people selling off all of their Gamecube shit, but hold onto Melee because of how amazing it was and fun to play with friends
I love how 0:44 is a "OMG RIDLEY CONFIRMED" moment. Twelve years on, we're still waiting for that :\
Soon, very soon.......
SOON
Haha, I like that comment now in 2018...
17 years later we got him lmao
@@foxmcfog7809 Ladies and Gentlemen, we got him.
I wish the Gamecube sold more than it did.
Maybe then it would at least not be so damn expensive to collect for.
We all do
If the population only knew the legacy this game would have up until this day. Melee is beautiful.
I really have to consentrate hard to not cry from this. This is beautiful!!
When that guy went "OH HOH HO!!" I felt that.
Nobody gets this exicited at E3 anymore.
I love the applause that happens when Sheik is shown with her harp
I don't think this level of surprise can ever be duplicated with Smash. It wasn't a given that there would be a sequel, compared to now where its expected a new entry will always be on future consoles.
Melee was made at the perfect time!
videos like this remind me that smash isn't just a game franchise. it's art.
Back when game reveals actually meant something...
@Dry Boi damn thanks for the throwback this video is awesome
???
"Take a look!" - E3
I still get chills every time I watch this.
Well, this was the game that showed us how the classic gaming characters would look in a new generation, in other words, they were brought to life, gone were the days when mario were a bunch of sprites, and link an origami-like model. newer games could never repeat that again.
The youngest person in this room is now probably 40.
I wish I was that translator.
To be able to tell such enthusiastic people not only about such an amazing game, but that they'd be able to play it in a day... Must have been so fun.
Nintendo really fucked up with this years E3. A live stream? Where's the fun in that? Imagine the reaction for Mega Man...
I KNOW RIGHT!!! Man I miss the Gamecube era :/
I think that's the reason why Nintendo kept it a livestream. It's how crazy it could get. ._.
*****
lol you say that like it's a bad thing :P
mrm64 I think he's talking about how many microphones and speakers would get blown-out from all the hype. The mega man reaction alone would cost Nintendo a fortune!
Michael Wadsworth Oh I know~
Muahhahahha! they'd have to buy a fresh new set if I was in that auditorium!
the one guy that remembered the ice climbers lmao
the reveal of the best console game ever made.
And its no brainer that Samus was the most loved during this E3 :)
I love how people were like "Who the fuck are those two people with winter clothes?!"
I'm getting giddy just watching it -- And I wasn't excited for anything before turning it on!

But watching it so many years later at its original e3, it's just a reminder of how great nintendo is at building excitement for a new game
And this game is still going strong to this day
The PS2 was amazing, but this game would be my best guess for why my gamecube's disc reader crapped out.
Melee is the bomb! I was like, how old at this time, 7? And man a lot of crap went down in 2001, you guys know what Im talking about, but it was games like these that made you feel better in perilous times...as a kid at least...
Kinda cried right here..my childhood man
Going from Super Smash Bros to SSB:Melee was a big deal back then, when it comes to the hardware capability and graphics
I wouldn't go as far as to say it was better than the PS2. The PS2 owned the market during that generation of gaming. Had some of the best and most memorable titles.
Not to say the GameCube and Dream Cast didn't have classics of their own.
It's funny the reactions in this video. We've come a long way
The only thing that would have further elevated the hype is if the announcer had been recorded for the end of the intro at that time.
I miss when games were this simple. If you died or lost, it was a temporary anger followed by the immediate desire to rematch. Can't get that in today's games.
I will write a docummentary: "Bill Trinen´s Hair through the ages. The puberty of 2001 until the serious man of 2013"
Mostly because at that time, there wasn't a new Metroid game for 7 years. In this same event "Metroid Prime" was announced.
3:28 Shiek
chills.
This puts a smile on my face, no doubt.
chills....chillls
AHHHH NOSTALGIA!!! );
I love how excited people got for Ness!!!
The new stuff in SSB4 is definitely amazing, but the music in this presentation just carries me away!
oh the humanity
Notice ppl were the most hype for Samus
1:19 Does Wolf have two eyes instead of one being bionic/ eye-patched?
Holy, look at the press conference compared to todays. Man, the audience has greatly increased over the years.
Hype since day one. Man, Melee too good.
Why did they love Samus so much?
dang i had chills the whole video
How can they it they are no longer doing a conference this year which is sad.
I remember when I got this game. I would play it from when I woke up till I went to bed at 3 ^_^
Oh man. If I were to see this a long time ago before I even knew about Melee I would've been literally jumping off the walls.
deybereybedee-dope for that one
The initial reaction is cool because I think up until Link appeared on the screen, everyone thought it was some kind of Mario spinoff.
what
omg! gamecube had maybe 20 good games? no way!!! that's almost as crazy as the 3,800 total games that came out on the Ps2 and the 200+ that were fantastic.
Man do I love Melee and Miyamoto makes it even better :D
Eh the reactions were pretty quite but im sure they were hyped.
Oh I believe it will, suppose to be huge!
I miss this game soo much :'(
THE most EPIC game intro ever!!!!!!!

Nintendo E3 reactions are the best E3 reactions.
I suddenly want to play Melee now. :)
I don't know but there's something about this game that makes it better than Brawl.

True. But let's be honest with ourselves, were they really going to remove anyone from the initial roster of 12 from the first game for the sequel?
They saw Ridley(Dragon) fighting Samus and thought Ridley was a playable character.
0:58 I FARTED
Looking at the reaction when they didn't even show anything, imagine what it will be like! :D
Tons of Metroid fans in the audience.
beautiful i shared a gamer man tear:')
Holy shit, I was 5 years old :p
Right right, I'm still stuck on how it used to be before 2007 :/
Did you own a GCN?
@Zewa Nintendofan not the virtual boy
They didn't include the announcer screaming out the title!
