I've been doing commissions and other content on DeviantArt for 15 years. I know about the amount of weirdos still hanging around there,... among other messed up things that happened recently that caused many people to leave. I want to leave and make Pixiv and Newgrounds my main home for my artwork, but I couldn't because of all the connections with people I still have on DeviantArt that don't have Pixiv, Newgrounds, nor even Discords.
yeah, i think in that case you just have to move along and put most of your art hustle efforts into NG and pixiv these days and just stick to DA being the social site where you talk to those people every now and then (while still posting there) if it gets really bad
man there's just no great art posting sites at the moment so i've been jumping from place to place myself it's so tiring

Weirdest deviantart commission I can remember(that I declined): Someone asked for MY sona, a purple cat Sonic fan character at the time, swallowing a watermelon. Besides the prompt, I don't know why they wanted MY mascot doing. I wouldn't have accepted it anyway, I personally don't do fetish art, but I declined it even faster because it was my own OC
Kinda glad I left DeviantArt back in 2023. The amount of weirdos I met on there was crazy. I met one person who had some kind of weird feet fetish and they stole my art and reposted it on FanPOP or something.
The bad news is that weirdos are EVERYWHERE on the internet. So even if DeviantArt kicks the bucket, you'll still encounter those nasty people on other platforms.
As someone who has a foot fetish, I rather just hang out with my own group who are also into that. Never liked the idea of sharing it with a total stranger.
What can i say? As person with giantess fetish, I'm glad i never commissioned any drawing, cause I never cared to check the age of the artist assuming they were all adults!!! I didn't even know DA showed your age!! "Sure if this person uploads stuff, it's surely an adult!".
I'm happy i haven't caused second-hand traumas to anyone. ahahahah
P.S. I wish i could make background as you already were able to back then. How dare they care "only about THIS"? They're freaking cool. Love the tree expecially. I will sommission you trees! TREES EVERYWHERE. I really like how deatiled they are.
The internet was a very different place back then, and like someone already mentioned, people weren't like "educated" on how to be responsible with minors on websites I feel

On the point of adults paying children on dA cents to draw their ocs. I still remember back then in 2018 where I would put up the price of like 35 pts (0.35 cents) for a shaded fullbody pixel art and not ONE adult on the site told me it was underpriced. Btw a Closed Species guy bought like +4 of these (+140 pts/$1.4) for his HIGH RARITY C.S. characters.

as a teen, i didn't draw fetish art for a few cents by some luck, but i got it as a gift. of my fursona (this is important. not just my character, my SONA) being pregnant. the description said she (my sona was actually a he then, the person just didn't clearly care) was pregnant by their sona.
thankful for the fanart, i just thanked them 💀 i still remember that pic way too well, too
actually now when i think about it, two request arts i got to draw of a very large woman and a very giant chested woman might not have been that innocent 💀💀💀
I had a similar experience. When I was a teen, I had a friend who tried commissioning me to draw pregnancy fetish art for them, but I refused due to lacking the artistic skills. But since we were friends, this person ended up drawing fetish art of my self-insert fancharacter pregnant, and at that time I felt like I had to be thankful they took their time to draw it.
I didn't understand the concept of sona/self-insert at the time, so I remember starting to hate my self-insert at the time, but couldn't pinpoint why. I'm still hesitant to create a sona after that experience. ^^;;
@@daydreaming99 don't let that experience stop you from drawing your character I've had a similar experience with my animal characters ( they're inspired by Sanrio characters so I draw their eyes the same way their's look ) my friends used to draw over my characters and change the way their eyes looked and I felt like I couldn't tell them my honest opinion about it and was scared I'd hurt their feelings.
At least you got points for that. I used to do free art just for fun. One time, someone made a very specific request: A mini comic where Po kisses Tigress, then she turns fat and rolls over him. And my innocent little kid self did it. Though I don't think the person ended up liking it 'cause they didn't fave it or anything. Probably because I didn't actually draw Po being crushed, just Tigress rolling after him.

It's a dead site. But for real, the remaining creepy guys can still take advantage the brand new artists from what I've seen and experienced a bit. They will always be there, somehow.
And now that AI shit is easily found on this site and that it's a really bad app on mobile (buggy, laggy,...) and more. I suggest not posting art here.

I vaguely remember when deviantart started i wanna say there was a lot emo kids making art and putting lyrics with their "i'm 14 and deep" artwork it was so funny and cute.
One of my commissions(it was technically a request and it was the latest one)(that I didn’t do) was one that resulted in me blocking the deviant. The request was to draw my sona kissing his. I have NO idea how old he was, but I'm 17, so this one made me uncomfortable. I've been requested to draw characters kissing before, but this one made me uncomfortable cause it involved his and my sonas.

i still use deviantart! joined around 2013 or 2014 and it's been my main site for years. but there have been several purges, including the deviantart eclipse mass leaving and the "dream up" ai apocalypse. now, it seems like the only people left are the handful of casual artists, the professionals that get thousands of favorites a day, the fetish artists, and the ai artists. the casual artists are few and far between, the professionals wont commission the casuals, the fetish artists want free art thats extra creepy and the ai artists dont care about art. so, when i open commissions, i mostly see fetishists ignoring the big bold *no fetish art* on my journals :(
I used to do comms for robux (roblox currency) and keep in mind 1 robux is like idk 1 cent or less, and i sold comms for 5 robux, 15-20 and sometimes even gave them for free 😭 and the worst part is that when you donate 5 robux 30% goes to the official Roblox account

I was chronically on DeviantArt back in the early 2010s looking at the most random drawings. No wonder I recognise some of the drawings, the Madoka one is quite familiar.
I wouldn't be surprised if people were purposely commissioning this kind art from younger teens *because* they wouldn't have an idea it could be fetish-y like.. if you look at art from someone who does and doesn't know about a thing.. the effort put in places is different.. wonder if they purposely wanted less effortful versions of a fetish since it wouldn't be as obvious

So i have some weird interactions here and there but it was fun. The fun part is i met a lot of people (and sadly, most of them arent online anymore. Ah, i miss them sm), my art improved so much, uhhh, llama points
The bad part is when people who request art from me (knowing im a minor that time. The requests are uh, weird), met a legit 60 year old s*x offender from Tennessee, an ex friend who despise oc x canon and gets angry when i draw one (cuz i was a hetalian back then im not even surpris), people trying to harrass me just because i vented that me and my friends got gr00med, people wanna rp me with my ocs because they think they're hot (even though they were minors and thought I am the OCs, LMFAO)

Oh god, pedal pumping. I was having some car issues a few years back and posted a video on youtube demonstrating what my car was doing so I could post the link to a car subreddit. I forgot about it for a while and then suddenly the video had like 5k views. I tracked down where they were coming from and apparently it got posted in a pedal pumping fetish group. I was wearing jeans and skate shoes and all you saw of me in the video was my legs but people still used it as fetish content. People are weird, man.
Also - where do people post art now? I've been on DeviantArt since the early 2000s, and my art has never really gotten many views, but for most of that time it was because it sucked. Now I've improved a lot, but I still don't get many views. Where should I be posting to increase my visibility?

If i commissioned art (if i was a good artist), I would've put strict limitations on the art I'd draw. (Like no NSFW, no f3tish art, no gore, etc)

2010? I was a naive 10 year old with absolutely no idea on what to do in life (My passion for art and video games started in 2012-2014). I mostly remember going to a classmate's house for a school project/barbecue during the World Cup but that's all I can remember from that year.

Ahh, the weird side of DA. I've definitely been aware of it even before joining the site, but I have done my best to keep myself away. I don't do commissions and keep requests/trades/collabs to either close friends or people I trust. If any younger artists here decide to join DA, only do requests and stuff like that with people you've built trust with, and don't do anything you'll regret later.

It’s so the video doesn’t get age restricted. Mentioning feet won’t restrict it, but the word “fetish” certainly would.

Ahh man. I hopped on DA new year's eve 2019 when i was 13 and a week later someone asked me to draw KO from Ok KO as a giant and after I did the commission I had to act as a fucking therapist and I had to ask this guy to get help for his fetish. Also looking back at my notes, he asked me multiple times and then I turned him down and he replied "sorry" and went back home to his crusty basement with his tail in between his legs. I basically never took requests again and every time I open them thinking I'll do one, I'll receive a request and then not do it LOL

Beaides your weird typical art on there and even some amazing artwork too, I do really miss DA and the community they had on there. There wasn't just art but flash animations, games and even tons of dress up and OC creators too.
It was definitely one of those you just had to be there to experience it all and I don't think we will ever get a site like that again and it sucks that it's become a shell of its formal self.
I remember someone asking me if I am a foot fetishist, just because I posed a character(sitting afraid). The model had big feet, yet it is a stylistic choice(based on a game animal character).
I can imagine, how many of the feet guys would "Enjoy" the innocent looking image.

Doesn't matter what you charge whether or not someone buys it is all about statistics, charge $100.00 for a glass of lemonade and you may only sell one glass but you will only need to sell one glass to make just as much as if you sold 400 glasses for $0.25 not taking into account the cost of production. My advice is start your prices absurdly high and lower your price until you feel you are getting the right amount of work.

As someone who used to do commissions and YCHs for cents, gosh I kinda miss those old days on deviant art. I think once someone tried to say I was overcharging for and YCH (which was 35 points, mind you) and they paid less. I think I also didn't receive payments for an YCH but decided to stay shut.
At least I'm glad I decided when I did do point commissions, to say that I won't do fetish art (I was already mentally scarred by fetish art)
