What should I do ? Should I continue or stop what I am doing to pursue something different ?
Designing in CAD is a skill that can be learnt. It is hard and it will take a while, totally worth it. If CAD and is the only thing you are really struggling with, but you enjoy and are good at the ideation and conceptualizing then I would say you are doing great and should stick at it. Just begin putting in some serious time to learn CAD. it will be tough now, but it will get easier. :) You are doing great. :)
How do I get to know I am interested in product design or not ? I am not good at drawing probably but I have interest in the designing of gadgets , I am always fascinated with the idea of design but I ain't good at drawing or sketching so what shall I do?
If you enjoy building stuff with your hands or are good at problem-solving then product design is a good fit. My advice would be to try teaching yourself a CAD program like Fusion 360 and see if you enjoy it.
If you study design do you sit all day on a chair drawing?I mainly ask because even though i love art and im creative i also love sports and exercise!Can these two be combined?
You can create a schedule to go by. If you're learning by yourself and not going to uni for it, you can legit study/work on it for like 5-6h a day and then take the rest of the time to exercise and do sports. It doesn't have to be a 12h a day process, even tho i've known several artists who massively improved over the course of a year cause they went into zombie mode and just did they wanted to become for 12h a day over months. It really depends on how bad you really want it to be honest, it's all up to you and different for every person!
Besides rapid viz and CAD, we also learn how to make our product. We are taught woodcutting, welding, thermoforming, compression molding, cutting foam, and lazercutting. So we don't just sit on the computer all day, it is still very hands on.
I 100% agree with @kedzr and @Joseph Catalan. Studying Industrial Design is definitely not just sitting down job. I spend a lot of time in the workshop and am on my feet for a lot of the day. I very much enjoy exercise too and try to go to the gym each morning before uni. Bottom line is, if you are good at managing your time you can fit studying design into your lifestyle.
I am a structural engineer. But problem is I am an INTJ... Both logical and creative. It's so frustrating to find something fulfills me. Love ur vlogs btw!
What are your thoughts on part time work (not related to design) during uni. It's so hard because industrial design requires so much time and effort. Is it similar in your class that students don't have part time jobs? One semester I gave it 110% but now I can't cause I'm always so tired after work 😴 I'm not failing but is retail/work experience during uni worth it? Or should we stick to finding Christmas casual jobs 😂
Great question. having a part-time student job defiantly does effect your studies. No way around it unfortunately. A lot of my fellow students all work part-time and they seem to be doing pretty good. If it is financially viable for you to just get a Christmas job then maybe do that, but if not then keep the part-time work and know that their is a lot of us doing it with you. Making these videos is my part-time and can take me up to 20 hours a week, so I'm with ya also. :)
