All of those amazing riffs are Charlie. Charlie is so underrated and so brilliant! I played with Charlie and Greg T Walker on the Rock Legends Cruise. Those Riffs have indeed influenced so many guitar players...Im one of those.
Got to meet Blackfoot in 05' at the Chance in Poughkeepsie NY. Charlie and Gregg were good to talk to. Charlie was the one who told me that Rickey played drums for Lynyrd Skynyrd. Gregg did go off about Rickey like a grenade... Anyway, glad someone here is covering Blackfoot in any way in terms of content. Keep doing what you do Dave.
I’m 58 and been on a Blackfoot kick for a bit. Ran into this and wow! Thanks for this. I don’t know all the chord names but can play a bit. Really enjoyed this dude
Way back in the hey day I saw Blackfoot open for many big name bands and to be honest I felt sorry for the bands they opened for because the original Blackfoot left the stage a smoldering mess they were so red hot and they always killed it … what a great band and kind of unsung heroes.
Great lesson! I have always been a Blackfoot fan. I saw Blackfoot on the Strikes tour in May of 1980. They were just about ready to release Tomcattin' but it wasn't out just yet. What a great show. I am so glad I saw them back in their prime. I also saw Molly Hatchet in 1980. Good lord were they a handful on stage, they ripped up the place.
Everything about Blackfoot was great. Jakson Spires had so many awesome drum performances I can’t believe he’s not more popular amongst the classic drummers. My all time favorite
Blackfoot Strikes was in my heavy rotation with the other bands of that era … those players were a different type that represented what music was about … loud, screaming, rock and roll guitars mixed with attitude and hooks 😎
OMG!! Thanks so much for this one. Blackfoot had a huge following up in North Jersey and my crew used to love cranking Strikes, Tomcattin and Marauder. Gonna have to go back and check out No Reservations. I've been trying to get Train Train under my fingers for a while now. Stellar Southern Rock fo sho!! Cuz sweet Lolita's hotter than a pepper..you know her pepper's gonna burn you in two..
Saw them in the late 70's and the energy was out of this world. Florida was such a hotbed of musical talent that really sculpted a lot of our lives. Something in the water down there I guess
i'm a metal and rock guitarist and i love Blackfoot, Skynyrd, and Molly Hatchet.... Rickey and Allen Collins are two of the greatest guitarists in history... Hi from Australia, the real deep south 🤣
Hi David, I saw Blackfoot open for Def Lepperd, it must have been around '82. What I remember was the drum solo and the drummer reaching to grab a beer nearby and taking a long chug during a pretty busy part of this solo. Always enjoy you David ! Thank you.
I met Charlie Hargrett when Blackfoot played at the Ace Speedway in N.C Bobby Barth was doing lead vocal duties. I played Charlies Custom Dean and we talked for the better part of a half hour. We got everything miked up and the sound checked and we resumed our convo. He had a Marshall jcm head that he was using as a dummy he was really using a Crate power block and a pedal board.. Charlie was really cool to talk to and a firey guitar player. I was working S.O.S. Productions back then.
Thanks for sharing man! As a native of Jax, I’m really proud of all the great rock bands that our town birthed! Blackfoot, as with the others, had their own style and flavor, but ALL of them produced funky hooks that ROCKED HARD ✌🏻🎸🎶
very cool vid Dave, I grew up listening to Blackfoot so many cool riffs and licks. Rickey and Charlie were a powerhouse together, seen them at the Boston Garden and then at the New England Drag way in Epping NH. they sounded better than some of the bands of today. Thanks agian Dave!
Awesome stuff, as usual. Another band from back then I can’t wait for you to do is Wishbone Ash. There’s a live concert of them on TH-cam from 76’, on the Rockpalast German show, that is awe-inspiring.
Awesome Dave \o/ ! Its been awhile, I thought maybe you forgot about doing Blackfoot. Thanks! You are right about Blackfoot influencing 80`s metal. They were huge at the Donington festival in 81 touring for their Tomcattin album. It makes sense that they influenced European heavy metal bands. They were very popular in Europe even into the early 90`s.
Strikes was a go-to in high school! One of my classmates claimed to Ricky Medlocke’s cousin, and he played guitar well and didn’t seem like a kid who would make stuff up…who knows? Anyway, great episode and thanks for keeping Southern Rock alive for us aging rockers.
Thank you, David 🙏 A good friend turned me on to Blackfoot back in the late 80s. I'm pretty sure it was "Good Morning" off the Marauder album. I've been a fan of the music ever since. I'll definitely be saving this lesson to revisit a few times to get these chords and licks down. Much appreciated! Be good to you 🤍💛
I don't know if you've done a "chord play" of "Budgie", but probably their most popular album "Impeccable" would be great. Tony Bourge has some great chordal riffs! Blackfoot is great. Seen them in concert on the "Strikes" tour in the late 70's- early 80's.
BUDGIE IS MOST UNDERATED HEAVY METAL ROCK BAND IN THE WORLD!!! WOULD LOVE YOU TO DO SOME OF THEIR SONGS!!! BREADFAN, FOREARM SMASH, CRIMES AGAINST THE WORLD, GUNFIGHTER.( ANYTHING SONG ON THEIR ALBUM POWER SUPPLY) THE LIST IS ENDLESS! LONG LIVE BURKE SHELLY AND REST OF THE BAND!! REST IN PEACE, GUITARIST JOHN THOMAS.
His Grandfather did and wrote the lyrics for Train Train. Many people don't know this but the song The ballad of Curtis Lowe that Ronnie wrote is about Rickie`s Grand dad.
We would hit the strip joints in the 80’s and get the girls to dance to Train, Train. They could really rock the tune but kind of stood around during the harmonica intro.
Hey what's up my man David hope all is well out there in the Midwest I'm excited to watch this video like I've mentioned before I play in a cover band it does a lot of southern rock and country music these types of guitars can really play I agree with you 100%. They definitely help shape Rock and metal players I love this style of playing I am a rock guy myself but something about overdriven blues played at uptown pool Pace other than just a normal r&b or blues beat it does something to the soul and like you said it's a great style to study learn and add into your repertoire
I rewatched this because Blackfoot was a favorite band of mine. Saw them many times live back in the day and it was always a great show. A couple of things I’d like to add - 1. Jackson “Thunderfoot “ Spires, the drummer was very important to the band as he was the lyricist and co-writer on many of the tunes - a kind of Southern Rock Neil Peart. 2. They really influenced NWOBHM because they toured with so many of the bands Scorpions, UFO, Def Leppard. Had Blackfoot’s record company been on top of it Blackfoot could have enjoyed the success of the 80’s metal scene.
Once again you are playing my life haha! Love some Blackfoot. Since you are on this southern kick, you ought to show some Blackberry Smoke stuff, Charlie Starr has some super tricky parts. Maybe you could do a double whammy and show their normal tuned stuff and then the open G ones. Thanks for the work you put in!
Def Leppard was opening for Blackfoot and the two bands had a great comradery and constantly played practical jokes on each other before, during and after each other`s shows. If I recall, one or the other band dropped 100`s of ping pong balls on the other guys. This was right before Pyromania blew up. I read about this on Charlie`s website almost 20 years ago. He was cool enough to respond back to me on his message board. The early days of the internet. I`m pretty sure it was during their song Too hard to handle when they had a bunch of people from their crew come out during the song and dance in Mexican ponchos and hats.
Chords of the band spirit Randy California used weird voicings/chord changes, the band Family used weird chord voicings/changes, David Crosby solo albums used weird chord voicings. Van halens in the late 80s early 90's albums used weird chord voicing which you can make a video lesson about.
I really think you should do something on NEIL GIRALDO. He is underrated, being the guitarist for Pat Benatar, but he has the chops, AND he has worked with Rick Springfield. You have covered a lot more OBSCURE guitarists than Neil...
Blackfoot was a great rocking southern band. The Flyin High album is a really good early one you failed to show. Good Morning off that album really rocks. You should also do some things off the first two Point Blank albums. Those are every bit as good, if not better, guitar albums. 2 dueling, high octane lead guitarist and good singer with an appropriate growly vocal style.
@@johnsmith-ug5tp thanks for the correction. I moved to Jax in 1982 to play in southern rock band. Before that, played in Ft Lauderdale. So southern stubborn we had a killer piano/keyboard guy and his friend that played great guitar for us also….. they wanted to play Riding the Storm Out, REO…. We said no, not southern rock…… they quit. Ha
Saw these guys a lot thru the years yes after siago the band lost a lot of umph but from no reservation to vertical smile I can't belive not worth a song ?? Still made a new sub and wow you have a nuff to keep me busy please I am love it move in on in some on fretting hand perfect other wise I to old to see ya good
Rickey Medlocke & Charlie Hargrett were a great team in Blackfoot! Thank You David for this treat of a lesson!
David Brewster best channel, hardest working, consistent content, 5 stars

Love Blackfoot! Excellent coverage of a few of the classic songs! Long live southern rock!
Awesome!!!!!!
Awesome video !! Blackfoot is an all time favorite of mine !! Thanks for this !!
Love this Blackfoot! Thank for doing this one!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Blackfoot is one of those bands that really deserves more attention; loved them live back in the day.
I’m 58 and been on a Blackfoot kick for a bit. Ran into this and wow! Thanks for this. I don’t know all the chord names but can play a bit. Really enjoyed this dude
Blackfoot, what a very underrated band, seen them live in 1982
Saw them a few times. An amazing live band. Ricky and Charlie were great showmen.
Awesome.
Thx for these great lessons/vids which I enjoy very much . Greetings from Belgium.
I was just made aware of this band a few days ago and man did they rock! Highway song is amazing!
Way back in the hey day I saw Blackfoot open for many big name bands and to be honest I felt sorry for the bands they opened for because the original Blackfoot left the stage a smoldering mess they were so red hot and they always killed it … what a great band and kind of unsung heroes.
Saw them in a bar in Austin Texas, then drank beer with them all night, awesome band.
👍👍 I'm glad to see Blackfoot getting some respect☺️
Thanks for posting this .!.
Thanks David for doing some Blackfoot

Thx David I learned to play lead to Highway Song. Back in the day.awedome session.
Wow what a great lesson. Thanks David for taking the time to cover Blackfoot. The early 1970s produced some really cool music.
Blackfoot Strikes was in my heavy rotation with the other bands of that era … those players were a different type that represented what music was about … loud, screaming, rock and roll guitars mixed with attitude and hooks 😎

What an overlooked band and guitarist.

Train Train such a powerhouse tune. Love the harmonica and guitar in that one just totally knocks you back a step .
Couldn't agree more Roy, I remember hearing this song as my first Blackfoot tune and being blown away, it truly is badass!
Nice to hear, theres still People with good music taste, even in 2022,i'm not alone 🤟🇨🇦
Ah yes, Strikes, wore it out! Love the way you present this stuff!

Great episode Dave, very good rhythm guitar parts!
Siogo had some awesome songs on it like "sail on", "Drivin Fool", and "White Man's land". Stellar stuff
Agree there were some really great songs on that album

I saw them around 81-82 at a small venue here.
Billy Thorpe, Johnny Van Zandt Band and Blackfoot.
Great high energy show!
Rickey joined Skynyrd the first time as a drummer!
Great lesson! Got to love a bit of Blackfoot - takes me back to far better days. Thanks David for all you do, it's appreciated.
🍺’ski Blackfoot & Your Les Paul both rock. 🤘
Now we got to get The Guitar Army in Here. The Outlaws
The solo in Green grass and high tides is epic! Love the strat parts that make up the majority of the soloing.
I think it's interesting to note that Medlocke's original stint in Skynyrd was as a drummer.
Awesome Dave \o/ ! Its been awhile, I thought maybe you forgot about doing Blackfoot. Thanks!

Can you do "chordplay " of "mountain "? Leslie has some serious killer riffs through his songs.
