  • DAVE KNOWS that the WWE Championship was actually awarded to the winner of a wrestling tournament that never happened. It's time to revisit the early days of the WWWF and reimagine a tournament that never happened and talk about how it should have gone down. So WWF fans, this piece of Wrestling History is for you, as I book the brackets for the wrestlers that I think should have had a chance to become the first WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Let me know in the comments who you would book to win.

    Buddy defeats Kowalski when he passes out from the figure 4, refusing to submit.
    Bobo defeats Stasiak in a match that turns into a brawl.
    Fritz puts it all on the line, pinning Kinisky with a back suplex
    Bruno, in a battle of strength with Calhoun repeats his feat of being the only man to ever bodyslam his enormous opponent for the win
    Rogers, clearly the heel in this situation uses clinching the tights in a hard fought win with the popular Bobo
    Bruno beats Fritz via bearhug after Fritz is sent hard into the corner, stumbling out into Bruno's finisher
    Bruno defeats Rogers at the 11 minute mark via bearhug.

    Dave knows wrestling is historically accurate and shows that if you follow the history, you'll truly appreciate this special presentation. I'd still hold that the Nature Boy Buddy Rogers would have won, as he was a McMahon great draw

    To be honest, the tournament was right in its own way, because it helped establish both Buddy AND Bruno as major wrestling legends for many years to come in the future. BUT, I really loved your idea of the 8-Man Tournament as it seemed to be a great way to showcase the best talented men at that time in 1963. How about a Brawl For All Tournament video? Would really appreciate you if you did that within the next few months, Dave. But keep up the great work, man!

    So the WWF & AWA World titles were born out of controversies involving the NWA World title? The WWWF would go on to work with the NWA again. I believe there were Backlund v. Flair bouts.

    Awsome vids as always... yes please do a history off wwe. That be awsome. Do u have any info on the president at the time... Was it Wille Glenzi..something? Also I once read an article that when Buddy was announced wwwf Champion, he wasn't actually presenting the belt until April or so, I believe I heard it was by Willie and not by Vince senior And that it was at one of there televised championship wrestling shows from Washington I believe, do you have any info on that? Also aside from the history of WWE, and how it started, I think it'd be pretty cool to see maybe a video on some of the former titles from the 70s, also maybe a video on how WWF TV programming first started in the beginning with the very first championship wrestling from Washington in the 50s., Ray Morgan info and such..maybe you could cover wwwf tv from the 70s, like the 1st appearance of vince jr in was 72? Maybe some of the 80s like the beginning of Primetime, the beginning of All Star, the beginning of All American. Also a video on WWF in the NWA, would be pretty cool. My info on some of that is so so

    If you ever make another, you should add The Original Sheik. The first fireball throwing iron man from the middle east. (East Detroit?) He ran Big Time Wrestling in the territories and he and BoBo had a legendary feud.

    Love your videos Dave. However, I must point out you misspelled Gene Kiniskis and Haystacks Calhouns last names. Also Fritz Von Erich did have a brief AWA world title reign when he defeated Verne Gagne in the early sixties.

      Thanks so much. And yes you caught me. I am a notoriously bad speller. Plus in terms of Fritz, I was more referring to him never winning a WWF or WWWF World Title, but yes you are 100% correct about the AWA

    Cool vid. Interesting tenement. A second one would be cool. Though interesting Haystacks and Brono are in it. Since Brono first came to fame by picking up Haystacks. And Haystacks according to Brono tried to Sand Bag him. So Brono had to lift him up for real and did it. Haystacks did it according to the vid I saw since part of his gimmick was how difficult it was for any one to pick him up. Tarzan latter Killer Kowalski would be cool to see in this. Sadly no Yukon Eric in this. But, don't think he worked for WWWF ah well. His school has mad a lot of the 90s well known wrestlers. Still looks like it would be a cool tournament.

    • @DaveKnowsWrestling
      @DaveKnowsWrestling  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks so much... yeah, I think a lot of really old wrestling is cool and interesting. There were so many names I wanted for this tournament that didn't make it. Ultimately I picked for this bracket wrestlers that were varied in style and I thought could pair up well no matter how the tournament worked out

  • @jg3000
    @jg3000 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For another list I would add Antonino Rocca.

    • @DaveKnowsWrestling
      @DaveKnowsWrestling  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He came so close, there really was enough to do another bracket. I kept this one down to 8, because the 16 man tournament in that 70's episode was too long. I had plenty of names ready to go and it was so hard to narrow it down. I chose just based off of variety, not value or anything

      True. If we are talking about who never got their shot at the NWA title during that period, then we need to include Verne Gagne. Gange never getting the belt is what created the AWA.

    Both "Tournaments" Were in Rio? Wow that was lazy? One couldn't have been in Japan or Italy or something? I heard a few times that that Buddy Rogers Bruno Sammartino match was the original Screw Job Buddy had no intention of dropping The Belt and that is why the match was so short Bruno picked him up in that back breaker and told him "Buddy either give up or I will really break you in half" and he did of course.

    • @DaveKnowsWrestling
      @DaveKnowsWrestling  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3
