    One key formula; keep the match 10 minutes or less depending on opponent and how they can sell and do theatrics.

    Personally I’ve always believed Regal’s version of events, or at least I believe that he wasn’t trying to humiliate Goldberg. As Regal’s said he’d just returned from a suspension and wanted to keep his nose clean, so there was no incentive to punk out WCW’s hottest new star like that. I also fully believe that the producer who gave Regal his marching orders wasn’t on the same page as Eric Bischoff, the wheels were already coming off backstage in early ‘98 when Bischoff was forced to add Thunder to the schedule. In his own words he was stressed out and a lot of details started falling through the cracks, like making sure the producers knew his booking plans and were sticking to them.

    So to sum up....if your wrestling Goldberg always start with an elbow n collar tie up and slightly oversell the shove off. Or really oversell in the case of the Rock. Again Dave, you do a great job showing what is lost so much in modern wrestling, the little details that add up in the greater whole. You really don't have to do so much in a match if you understand how to get the most out of the little moments. And Hogan (and my guy Flair) were absolute masters at the less is more approach. Just a little bit of selling, little bit of an overemotional facial expression and understanding when to do what can go a long way. I wish more wrestlers would watch this channel. You and Stevie Richards both have such great breakdowns on what makes matches work so well.

    Great video again Dave. it's a shame goldberg never put in effort to grow as wrestler beyond his quick win shtick and always relied on others to make him a superstar. Thats why he was never more than a flash in the pan in WWE. Glad to see him gone

    The problem with Goldberd was his ego more than his lack of experience. He flat out refused to sell anything much like The Ultimate Warrior.
    It's why his wrestlemania match with Brock Lesnar was so bad, they refused to make each other look good.

    1. Take a guy who looks like a star.
    2. Build him up by exclusively booking him in squash match to "match" his limitations.
    3. Establish him by having him defeat a legend for the top title.
    4. Screw him out of the title.
    5. Repeat.

    Goldberg wasn't just a football player, he was an All-American for the University of Georgia and he spent some time with the Atlanta Falcons. WCW was owned by the Atlanta-based Turner Broadcast System and hosted shows in Georgia regularly. His biggest triumph was in the Georgia Dome. Pushing Goldberg ASAP was a no-brainer for WCW.

      Yea well how'd they do?

      @@DaveKnowsWrestling In some cases, WCW did extremely well, for the reasons you mentioned. Goldberg was over fans loved it. When he was paired with guys who weren't a good match like post screwjob and OtE 1999 Bret Hart, and William Regal, Goldberg was exposed and the mystique was damaged. Ultimately, I think the immaturity of WCW leadership is a big reason why Goldberg never improved. They didn't have WWF's group of the Undertaker, Godfather, etc. to get a guy like Goldberg to fall in line. He was WCW's super-duper star and there was no one in WCW capable of getting him to fall in line.

    • @DaveKnowsWrestling
      @DaveKnowsWrestling  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yea, great... ultimately, how'd they do?

    • @kylefunderburk4194
      @kylefunderburk4194 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @DaveKnowsWrestling how'd they do what? In terms of creating a spectacle tailor made for their core audience, they succeeded. If the goal was to create a big powerhouse babyface to carry wrestling into the new millennium, WCW failed miserably. I didn't comment what I did to argue against you. I was adding context for why WCW rushed Goldberg; they knew he'd get over despite obviously being untrained.

    • @DaveKnowsWrestling
      @DaveKnowsWrestling  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Saying it was a no-brainer isn't adding context. It's also not true. Lance Von Erich was a local football star and his push wasn't a good idea. And yet again, I ask, ultimately how they do. Which you don't want to answer straight up. WcW failed. It wasn't just Goldberg's fault. And while he had some successes, how'd WcW do? They couldn't generate large amounts of profit for a sustainable amount of time. Goldberg may not be solely to blame, but he sure isn't the answer. So making it seem like it was a brilliant idea to push him when he was green or that they had no choice is preposterous. It's a simple question. How'd they do? But internet people can never give a straight-forward answer to this
