Needless to say, honda has significantly dropped the ball when it comes to protecting their flagship bike since 2018.

I am keeping the older 1500 / 1800 models. This bike just has to0 many things I just can't see myself adapting to (storage, alternator, ugly dash, smaller fuel tank, less weight can be taken and of course lets not forget the cheap roll bars. I dunno what Honda were thinking when they made this. I love every wing and I have owned every wing but this bike I will give 2020 / 21 / 22 a miss.

They seem to be the hottest thing around, their sold out everywhere. I loved the DCT I drove.

This should be unacceptable on a bike this expensive. The prior gen Wing was very well protected in a tip over. This is the best the Honda engineers could come up with?

The price of plastic panels on all motorcycles is out of proportion and can write off some bikes

On trimming down the Goldwing Hondas got cheap on the Case Guards Protection like my one on my 2018 Goldwing. I spent $500.00 dollars on a aftermarket case guard in the front to prevent damage like this. When a bike goes down like that with the weight the cheap guards act like a fulcrum and it will tip over on it's side like that.

well the case actually comes in two parts - that outside cover of the saddlebag is what is needed and one can find a replacement new for around $500 or when a Goldwing goes into a trike replacement, they can be found on ebay for half that amount or less - the mirror cover and the lower part are not costly.

Had mine go over due to wild life, mountain sheep. Was at a full stop on a crowned road surrounded by sheep when one rammed my front wheel and over we went. Luckily I had full insurance but the final bill was $6500 CDN with 8 hours shop time. Those tip-over guards did squat except get scratched. The plastic lower engine cover was damaged by the guard. Mirror, scratched and bent mirror swivel, folded in and pushed the dash cover and left speaker cover out of alignment, saddle bag cover scratched quite bad, right handle bar bent slightly, brake lever broke at the lever indent, handlebar weight scratched and Kuryakyn floor board scratched. To boot, the little plastic cover for the driver's backrest opening, was scuffed by my wife's boot. It can't be replaced by Honda so they ordered a new seat ($1500). Lesson learned.

This is why I wont buy the new wing. I have owned the GL1500 1988, 1989, 1991 and 2000, GL1800 2007 and 2009 and ALL of them remained undamaged when dropped. I've not dropped any of my 1800 but I have had kids sit on the bike at service stations come out to find my bike and the kid (with parents) on the floor. The older bikes are significantly better protected including during an accident (I had a serious one on the GL1500 20 years back) I was hit by a police car in the side 60mph the bike only had major damage to the crash bars and a broken mirror not a scratch on the panniers. If that happened on this newer 2019, 2020, 2021/2 I think it would be a total right off. I am sad I LOVE the wing but I cannot bring myself to buy something so easily damaged. Honda know what they are doing! sad!

Paint protection kit would have saved most of the damage that was the 1st thing I put on my BMW1600 when I bought it

The goldwing parts are expensive. I know a guy who had a rock hit his engine casing (not sure how it happened) and to replace the engine was £13,500 from Honda. When you can buy a brand new Honda CBR600 RR in the UK for £10,500, the goldwing is very very expensive however you look at it.

I have a set of Palitan Comfort Bars with hwy pegs on my 2018 Wing. There as good as it gets for drop protection on these plastic fantastic bikes. Mine saved my bike when I hit a stack of four five gallon buckets at 70 mph.

No crash bar up front like previous goldwings ain't to smart. Saved the ones I've had more than once. Of course since I quit drinking I drop and fall off my bikes less. Whole worlds a little safer too.

Indeed it can happen. There are several makers of larger engine guards available. This would not have happened, had engine guards been installed.

No decent solution is available so far, apart from the short OEM engine guards.
Traxxion Dynamics is working on something, looking forward to that.

A motorcycle assembled from individual spare parts is around 1000% of the original sales list price. For this reason, an actuarial total loss occurs in a flash.

A simple roll forward and it’s 2000 Euro, shocking and no attempt from Honda to mitigate the damage through design - Honda are really out to profit from a simple mistake on this model appalling.
