    Impressed with the video. The only point I would make was you said things had to be tightened up to the correct manufacturers torque settings, but I didn't see a torque wrench?

      This free oil change video should be used as a reference point for Goldwing owners that work on their own motorcycles, my video was never intended to be the Official sponsored Honda Goldwing Training Manual for Honda Service Technicians employees, therefore use common sense or just take your bike to the dealership if you lack the ability to change your own oil.

    Good video. I’ve done my 2018 dct oil change several times now. A few tips for you. After you remove the 3 drain bolts and both filters…put the bike on the side stand and about .25-.3 more ounces of dirty oil will continue to drain. To remove the dct filter I use a telescopic pocket magnet tool to pull the filter out. The oring that goes in the dct cap is very easy to pinch and will result in a oil leak down the road. There is another oring that people are using that is very tight fitting and no chance of pinching. That oring is the same used for the front fork suspension caps for the 01-17 goldwings. After the bike has sat on the side stand for serval minutes put the bike back on the center stand and reinstall all the plugs and filters. I pour exactly 5 quarts of oil into the bike. Start the bike and let run for 5 minutes. Then turn the bike off and check the oil level at 3 minutes. The oil level should be exactly on the upper full mark. Also when start the bike for the first time after the oil change you might get a series of dashes for the transmission indicator. No worries it will do this if the bike senses that no oil is flowing since all the oil was drained and the new dct filter is dry. After you start the bike again the dash’s will clear and be back to normal showing N on the display.

      Don't fret too much over the small amount you are getting out by using the side stand; the 2018-2022 GW DCT always has one quart of old oil left inside! It can only be drained by 'splitting the case,' as in taking the engine/transmission apart! '21 GW DCT owner. Good Rides

    From the Pro’s Corner: Tip of the Week! Learning how to do basic maintenance care for your Honda Gold Wing or any motorcycle “properly” goes along way towards ensuring quality service, a better understanding of your machine and is a huge savings. Thank you Chris!

    Excellent job Chris! I see that Bradley S. below already mentioned it below, but it is important, after you have drained as much oil as possible, to take the bike off the center stand and place it on the side stand. This process will drain the additional several ounces of dirty oil out of the engine. Then, put it back on the center stand to replace the drain bolts and filters. I learned this from Cruiseman's Maintenance Videos.

    Great video sir, I just wanted to say you can get a metal drip pan that's like a cookie sheet maybe 4 foot in length, which is good for any spillage. I purchased mine from Wal-Wart in the automotive section of the store. It really comes in handy for changing oil in the bike and trucks.

    EXCELLENT VIDEO thank you so much. I used this video and it was exactly what I needed to walk through my own 2021 DCT Tour oil change. And on the torque wrench.... anyone who has changed their own oil on bikes can feel the required tightness better than using a torque wrench. With a torque wrench you run the risk of leaving it to the tool and having it go way over if you aren't careful to use it correctly.

    To all, follow the bike book !!! Don't guess torques. Honda has the reason for everything on this amazing machine. Since day one, I do 22 f/lbs on all 3 drain bolts and 19 f/lbs on oil filter. Yes, by the book. I never had any issues changing oil or fighting to loosen anything. Always use fresh crush washers and always check that oil filter o-ring did not stay on the block after you drop it.

    Hey chris, great vid, very helpful. I just purchased a 2022 wing DCT a few days ago. I will be doing this shortly. Now, you said this was your FIRST oil change? I was told by the dealer to change the break-in oil at the1st 500 miles. Did you do this? They quoted me $487 for the 1st service. Yea.......No! I did all the work on my 2016 wing except the recall on the forks. yea they screwed that up too....ended up having them buy me a new wheel and a caliper. yea came loose on the road. ANYWAY, question. I know you used to tow a trailer with your old bike. Did you get a hitch for the 2021? Which one is the best one for this model?

    When the oil started to drain I noticed a reddish brown color separation from the oil. Was this maybe from the camera and lights or is it a break in oil that Honda uses?

    If I’m not mistaken, I believe the owners manual stated that you should change the oil every 4,000 miles. The DCT oil and filter every 8,000 miles. I’m going to double check when I get home from work.

    Just an observation, where you are adding oil to the filter is where filtered oil exits to the mains and journals, any dirt added to this center cavity will be the first to enter the bearing surfaces...unfiltered. just a thought

    Question for you. The owners manual tells you to check the oil with the bike in the upright position on level ground. Does not say to have it on the center stand like the 2005,2012 and 2017 I had. When you check the oil on the center stand the dipstick reads to the bottom line which shows it needs oil added. The manual says to run the engine till it gets warm, shut it for a few minutes then check the oil with bike in the upright position on level ground. It should show to the upper mark on the dipstick. I can never get a good reading. I know it has 4.9 quarts of oil in it. Any suggestions? By the way Great Video on changing the oil and filters.

    • @alp3781
      @alp3781 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are a handyman and know bikes, mechanics, Honda tech manual will be enough, however it does not hurt to get his videos or Fred Harmon as well. It will prevent you from having expensive repairs or damages. I just have the heavy manual with the pictures. Some panels on the bike are tricky to remove/install. Moreover, it is a complexed machine.
