Having been in a family own construction company for 4 generations that built 3/4's of 5th ave in Manhattan, and personally employed in construction for 11 years, I can genuinely say I pity them. It's evident that the GC is just there for the paycheck and will cut corners by any means necessary. I'd be embarrassed to say that I work for that company. To each their own though I suppose. No safety equipment for either crew that I could see. About the only concession to OSHA was the portapotty, and I'll bet it's locked. If there had been an accident, your video would have been "Exhibit A" in the lawsuit. I hate to see guys so hard up for a paycheck that they'll take these risks.

That reminds me of when I worked for a remodeling contractor in the early 70's. My boss had a contract with the city to rehab the 3 decker at 9 Goulding St. One of the guys did something like that and down came the roof on the rear porches. Fortunately, there was a ladder there that block it enough that nobody got pinned under it. I thought the bosses Brother was gonna have a heart attack. He was really pissed.

retired construction worker, my mind is blown, they could have done it much faster and safer if they took the sawzall, and removed the walls from the upper balcony first, that would have taken 4-5 cuts and removed quite a bit of the weight.

Even before OSHA came to be these guys would have been labeled unprofessional. Hard hats, safety glasses, work shoes, work clothes. They’ll be injured and on disability before they’re 45.

@@udizzy1969 I'm a retired Facilities Manager. The whole video is a total safety violation. Fair to many safety violations to count. I know you spotted no hardhats, however, that is just one piece of this problem. In the army we would call something like this a cluster f***. I can't even begin to fathom allowing residents to walk into the work area. I also have issues with the roofing and three story ladder. The building owner has to be a cheap piece of work too, hiring this substandard demo crew. This whole thing was a massive lawsuit waiting to happen. Moreover, I can understand how the city allows this type of company to even have a business license.
