Other people might disagree but who has actually flown across two countries to quickly try them for back to back meals to have the best frame of reference for comparing? No one that dedicated and no one should also have any rebuttal. Will definitely put the coconut club down as one of the places to try
Wa, u got a google spreadsheet with their addresses, prices, links to the episodes, and your ratings, etc. ar! Hats off to u, sIbei effort. Here's a cup of coffee ☕
Thanks Alderic for your recommendations and dedication throughout the series! After watching Village Park's episode, we knew we had to go to KL to try it for ourselves. No regrets!
It’s balanced out by it having a price point that is absolute garbage lol. Some may see that as an insult. I however, see it as something absolutely hilarious and to be proud of lol. Absolute quality with a middle finger to the price 😂😂😂. Let’s see Malaysia try that anytime soon lol
@@87togabito I think it's the right approach to making the best possible nasi lemak, when on a limitless budget. When I'm spending money on food, I want quality ingredients for each component. Beats slapping on steak or lobster to bump up the average spend. Imagine taking the same approach with chicken rice. Buying the best possible chicken and rice, and sparing no expense to create the best possible chicken stock. Or a hainanese pork satay treated with the same sort of attention to detail as chicken in a yakitori restaurant. Maybe that should be a new series. Attempting to make the best possible version of a dish, without unnecessary bells and whistles, and finding 4 diners willing to pay $1XX per pax for that.
I dont see whats the problem, in fact I would be annoyed if he picked malaysia because i'm not taking the trip to malaysia just for nasi lemak even if its the best in the entire world
@@87togabito dude, dont like dont watch... if you cannot take his recommendation then u start your own youtube channel and review. we all know that alderic is somewhat fair in his reviews, and he will tell u why next week, but u cannot discredit him to spend so much money to review a dish that you cannot even set aside the biasness for. u think he dont wanna give the best dish to a cheaper and better one if malaysia or singapore has one other than this? dude
Malaysian here and I’m good because honestly, the best nasi lemak is the one u buy from a random makcik by the roadside. And wrapped. It’s really hard for me to pinpoint which nasi lemak is the best.
Thank you for your important work. I just watched your whole nasi lemak series over the last few nights at work. I am visiting for a few days in November and Coconut Club's nasi lemak is now on my list of things to eat while I am there!
Ballsy to challenge Malaysians on this verdict, but then again I really doubt anyone has flown between both countries just to compare nasi lemak like you did. All of us just decide based on emotion and memory. Salute to your dedication!
The Bib Gourmand metaphor is absolutely right, The Coconut Club is the Ferrari of Nasi Lemak. At least we kinda know which one is 2nd in SG, which would have been 1st if exotic category is excluded ;)
Ya man. I'm like, err... inviting a Malaysian over to try the Rm90 nasi lemak. The Malaysian will say Gila. But maybe Malaysians really have Rm90 nasi lemak to fight. Round 2?
I have found your videos extremely helpful. My family and I leave for Singapore next week and looking forward to following some of your suggestions! Thank you for the content.
I’m a Malaysian and I’m coming to Singapore soon, will definitely try coconut club nasi Lemak for sure! I’m curious to know how good it actually is and if it’s worth for the price point. 👍
You must try “The Nasi Lemak Shop” in Bandar Utama 3, Malaysia. Not too far away from Village Park, taking inspiration from the OG but they’ve elevated the game to a whole new level.
Taste is subjective, so as a Malaysian, I’m not mad 😂 this is an interesting watch. Personally, I am a fan of simple nasi lemak bungkus, especially in Penang. My mother who hails from Penang also makes one of the best nasi lemak but of course I am bias 😆 In addition to the usual ingredients, she adds shallots, ginger slices and fenugreek seeds when she cooks the rice, typical of Northern style nasi lemak. You can eat the rice on its own. I am picky about sambal as I dislike sweet sambal which is becoming the norm in Malaysia, especially in KL. You should also try nasi lemuni, if you haven’t. It is similar to nasi lemak but the rice is cooked with lemuni leaves. My favourite 🤤 Btw, love the fact that you used Final Fantasy’s victory theme to announce the winners!
Any recommendations for Malaysia nasi lemak? I wouldn't feel injustice if Malaysia could not beat Coconut Club with a Rm90 nasi lemak. But as a Singaporean, i wouldn't know where to start.
Well I stay on the east coast and I happened to chance upon Coconut club and we thought the price point was ridiculous. But after seeing your racing reviews for it, I guess I'll have to give it a go and see what the fuss is all about
This is like when a X factor contestant comes out on stage and just before the performance shares his “background story his tragic sob story” and everyone believes. Holding in belief all these “facts” while trying the coconut club is the sure way to have the golden buzzer
I really hope you go to try nasi lemak in batam here some places i reccomend Kedai Kopi R Kiong: authentic selat panjang style nasi lemak Kenji kopitiam: try medan style nasi lemak the shop also sell medan style lontong Utama 98 food court their nasi lemak worth to try
There's only got to be one of the most complex Indian dish - THE FAMOUS NASI BIRYANI Alternatively, can try the best ROTI PRATA. Can even do a roti prata vs roti canai... Singapore vs Malaysia round 2.
Wah you're probably going to start a riot in the comments section by saying a nasi lemak place in sg is greater than the ones in msia😂.I was expecting coconut valley to win,but coconut club definitely deserves it for the effort they put in their nasi lemak.
Based on his reaction most of us would have thought coconut valley would have won. Tried most places I still think coconut valley’s combo is the best, when the rice, sambal and chicken hits together
Alderic, thanks for trying out and giving out your rating for all these nasi lemaks! Great job!! But if you are somewhere in mount Austin, please give grandpa Yong a try, 🤣 I am a ponggol nasi lemak regular for a long time but I will choose grandpa Yong anytime of the day for sure!
At this rate you can add “consistency” to your judging criteria too 😂 if the nasi lemak stall has a bad day, it’s probably the reason why it won’t get a Michelin bib gourmand? the coconut club nasi lemak set used to be $12ish at Ann Siang, like 8 years ago? Not that it doesn’t pain me to go and have it at $20+ now, but yes will still pay 🙊
i kept going 'you serious bro' when you were gonna take a flight to KL and immediately come back to compare the nasi lemaks. that level of dedication man, salute and kudos to you. just curious actually, why you needed to bring a luggage if it's just a day tour? you dabao Village Park nasi lemak back is it? lol
Thanks, awesome series! Though I do wonder why did u bring a luggage if ur just going on a day trip to KL ? LOL... Also are u developing your own Nasi Lemak recipe to share?
I want to say prawn noodle or carrot cake but since you are flying around so much then Laksa ba! But then abit no contest Janggut (the queensway branch). But do add their sambal chili in! Alot of content you can talk about the lore of katong laksa... CNA got a pretty good documentary for your reference.

Great series Alderic! Check out Thosai/Dosa. Quite an underrated, cheap, and very tasty South Indian breakfast food that's abundant in Singapore and Indonesia
As a northener... I respect the shout out to taliwang. If sides were to take another 10% in weigtage I really think they'd have a real shot at top 1 2 in sg. Legit especially for spice lovers
I believe the coconut club got their award before they were sold to a group to maximize profit and change location to Beach Road. Their current setting and price is more of a full service restaurant. Technically speaking, their previous award should be forfeited for changing ' weight ' category.
Lo and behold group is running the brand to the ground. I am quite surprised that Alderic got good nasi lemak there, many of my friends went and we all had terrible experiences. Maybe the secret is to record yourself…

Just give this guy a freaking medal already. I’m astonished how no one has featured this guy in the news yet.

Picking a non-Msian one as the best. You sir have balls the size of a planet.

It is RM88 vs RM12
If the nasi lemak in Coconut Valley don't trumped over Village Park, the one who paid for that price will be pissed 😂
