    'Who was Gil-galad?' asked Merry; but Strider did not answer, and seemed to be lost in thought. Suddenly a low voice murmured:

    Gil-galad nan Edhelchír
    dim linnar i thelegain:
    Im Belegaer a Hithaeglir
    Aran ardh vethed vain a lain.
    Gariel maegech Gil-galad,
    Thôl palan-gennen, ann-vegil;
    A giliath arnoediad
    Tann thann dîn be genedril.
    Dan io-anann os si gwannant

    vi Mordor, ennas caeda gwath.

    Definitely one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

    Gil-Galad was an Elven-king
    Of him the harpers sadly sing:
    The last whose realm was fair and free
    Between the Mountains and the Sea
    His sword was long, his lance was keen
    His shining helm afar was seen;
    The countless stars of heaven's field
    Were mirrored in his silver shield
    But long ago he rode away
    And where he dwelleth none can say;
    For into darkness fell his star
    In Mordor where the shadows are
    But long ago he rode away
    And where he dwelleth none can say;
    For into darkness fell his star
    In Mordor where the shadows are
    But long ago he rode away
    And where he dwelleth none can say;
    For into darkness fell his star
    In Mordor where the shadows are.

    Absolutely gorgeous rendition of this song! If you (or anyone else) ever want to do another variant, may I suggest that rather than completely repeating the last verse three times, instead, the third time you pull the first two lines from the poem? So the last verse becomes this;
    Gil-Galad was an Elven-king
    Of him the harpers sadly sing:
    For into darkness fell his star
    In Mordor where the shadows are.

    I've heard a few versions, but this one very excellently follows the meter which I believe Tolkien wrote in. I don't pretend to know the poetry field but I know that his original works used specific beats. Those that understand song writing will read his work and pick it out, match it to musical timing and hopefully, do as good a job as this band has done.

    tragic, and uplifting

      Just consider what this says about Lorien, Imladris and the Woodland Realm. Though literally read, Lorien and Thranduil's realm are not between the mountains and the sea. Alas poor Elrond.

    I've said this before on other videos of this song:
    this is both one of the most tragic and one of the most uplifting songs I've ever heard
    (funnily enough, when I was typing this comment, I was mentally reading it in Sam's accent from the movies)

    Gil-Galad y Elendil derrotando a Sauron siempre ha sido mi momento favorito en toda la historia de la tierra media.
    La segunda edad me parece la mas interesante.

    The countless dreams she matters ...
    And she weaves
    Chants encounters of the deeds ...
    For in to Mordor fell a star ...
    And his spirit lingers on ...
    Never to accept the black spell ...
    That Morgoth casts ...
    So in our hearts ...
    We spoke for prays ...
    In hope he restores ...
    To the sane ...
    Every Elf ...
    Sanctified this way
    To look after one ...
    And another to this day ...
    This is the way
    The Elves are made ...

    The betrayal of his kin ...
    Between the marches and the sea ...
    So he rode and ran away ...
    To dwell in shadows ...
    Corrupted to the veins ...
    It's a shame to find ...
    His spirit encased ...
    The craftsmanship wasn't to blame ...
    Every ring is pure art enchained ...
    Enchanted by the ways ...
    A black hand rose to blind the eye ...
    Moria the elves fell into despair ...
    For the fear of might ...
    Tortured and maimed ...
    Traverse to Rivendell up high ...
    To heal and care within the light ...
    Yes, Gil Galad was an Elven King ...
    Between the marches a battlefield to see ...
    Though bitter the fall the many lights of souls alike ...
    Answer sorrow's call if not betrayed by decay ...
    Carvings wave upon the way ...
    Hoping that corruption never found a shape ...
    In even-star, the tree that rose once deceived ...
    The land remained dead and dimmed in hollow ...
    Gil Galad was an Elven King ...
    Although the harpers sadly sing ...
    Between the marches and the sea ...
    The countless stars ...
    A rising feel ...
    Guide us home ...
    Towards the reels ...
