THAT'S the Galactica I grew up with as a kid. It's my _favorite_ starship of all the Sci Fi genres. And the original Anthem of the Colonies! Love it! It still moves me to tears with its beauty and majesty.
Outstanding! The whole 1978 film needs to be remade with modern SFX. Remember Sensurround? The cinema shook with the vibrations of the space battles. Those were the days when your movie ticket was worth the money!
There is a video called I believe The Living Legend Project, which has some CGI effects along with the original practical effects. It gives an idea of what this classic series could look like with updated special effects. It's pretty impressive.
Fracking Excellent! Now THIS was the Galactica of my childhood and the one true Galactica that I loved. Plus Maren Jensen was the first celebrity crush for this then 8-year-old boy.
THIS work gives me all the feels from my childhood... This is such a lovingly and respectfully made tribute... No notes. Perfect composition. Perfect deep Stu Phillips' music cuts. Outstanding in every way... I almost made it all the way through without crying... Until the distant overhead shot of the Galactica and fleet transversing the nova... The very subtle shadows cast by the Galactica.... Sublime. Much respect to you Peter Hirschberg... Thanks for the joy you gave to me just now.
Thank you for this classic Sci fi has anyone noticed the brilliant brighter colours am always will be a fan of old and new Classic one is 1980 with wolfman jack in it Classic Yes sad we don't have expanded on this once earth founded could have been more much more We have stupid reality TV or pay thingy which can't get or afford Sad TV now mindless ,numbing rubbish compared to this Have the books designs a model of too please let me know of more of this brilliant work thanks muchly miss it
Stunning. These ships of the Original Galactica were the stuff of my childhood dreams. Even to this day I occasionally awake from a dream where I'm aboard the Battlestar, the Rising Star, or one of the many other stunning and inspired vessels in the Ragtag fleet searching for the thirteenth colony, Earth.
Galactica is a fine piece of Sci Fi Art...In 79-80, and 2003. Being retired US Navy. IT was clear to me, that the production and art crews for both series took ques from existing Carrier Tech, in designing the Battlestar design. Inside, and out. And there was particular detail to the interior sets and props, for the 04 re boot...
Fracking awesome, love it!!! Makes me dreaming of some kind of continuation of the original, as animated series or with real actors. It would be still time to hire at least Dirk Benedict, Herb Jefferson Jr., Laurette Spang, Anne Lockhart etc.
LOVED IT! You did an amazing job capturing the feel of the original and perfectly integrating the modern CGI effects. This video brought a HUGE smile to my face. Thanks so much for sharing!
A great tribute! I love this series so much. I can remember seeing the first 'film' in "Sensorsound' at the old Rocking Chait Theatre in Pompano Beach, florida in the summer of '78. Awesome time!
Oh my... this was Wonderful. I watched every episode in 1978/79 , my friends and I were obsessed ... I'd go so far to say we loved Battlestar Galactica more than Star Wars, and why not... we were getting new episodes every week. Keep it up. I'll probably watch this a 100 times, with a tear or two. And Frak ABC for canceling after one season. Cheers !
Very nicely done! Shows what the 1978 BSG could look like with CGI, like what was done with the 1960's Star Trek. Wonder why Universal didn't do something like this when they marketed their Blu-ray box set collection? Big Congrats to Peter Hirschberg and his dedicated team!
Omg no it was bad enough what they did to star trek cgi looks terrible original practical effects much better same.with Galactica i love the original effects would hate them to be redone with cgi same with original star wars trilogy.
Why, because people like Phil kneejerk react to CGI reworks with "CGI SUCKS!". Plus, remastering would have required several million dollars more for even a half-assed attempt. I do think that STTOS needs another render for current 2K. Noting that much of Trek was on 16mm, 4K and 2K scans will be capturing original film grain; oBSG was largely 35mm IIRC, (Part of why it was as expensive as it was) so a 4K remaster of the scan may be worth it (but higher, such as theatrical 8k-24k will have caught the film grain).
Nicely done. Wished that Glen Larson had your talent and modern 21st century tech back in 78. Thank you for that marvelous tribute to my second favorite Sci-Fi TV show. Lost sleep is nothing compared to DOING WHAT YOU LOVE.
My kids first watched oBSG back in the 00's on DVD. They loved it. (And Space Academy and Jason of Star Command. But NOT Ark II.) Only one of them liked Moore's reboot.
The original version with Loren Greene will always be the BEST version . Do you remember , that Galactica and the Buck Rogers Series used the same fihter jets and take of ramps ? Thank you very much for this little movie ! 😊
Incredible work What i like about the orginal series is if you forget about the lousy G.1980 series you can do fan productions of the Galatica meeting any other space show since BSG doesnt have an Earth referance time period.
Great Work. Being an old fan from the 80's, I absolutely love your work on this. The animations, models, music, composition, everything, just wonderful.
Phenomenal! I listed all my favorite shots on your FB post, but I wanted to come here to fav it so I’d always be able to come back and watch! Anxious to see what might change in upcoming versions!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ❤️ 😍 YOUR WORK! THE LITTLE SHIPS IN THE BEGINNING FOLLOWING THE GALACTICA IS AMAZING. IT'S ALMOST AS IF THE GALACTICA IS THE MOTHER WITH IT'S LITTLE BABIES FOLLOWING HER VERY CLOSE BEHIND. SOMETHING BOTH ORIGINAL AND REMAKE SERIES ON SCFI WERE NOT ABLE TO DO. GREAT JOB! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK 👍
I so wish universal would release "Mission Galactica" in the US with CGI ships and new battle sequences, that would be so worth it on the big screen. Thanks so much for making this clip.
Most enjoyable fan tribute I have viewed since the excellent "Prelude to Axanar" ! Thanks for sharing! Many fan creators are doing work that leaves the big studios with their boring chaotic dystopian remakes behind!
Whew!...Nostalgia rush! Talk about a blast from the past. I was particularly impressed with the Nova scene and the music playing. It conveyed the loneliness that the fleet must have felt whilst journeying through the vastness of space and at the same time seeing wondrous sights that the galaxy has to offer. It felt as epic now as it did 40 years ago.
It was nice to see my Colonial brothers and sisters blow the pogees out of those gall-monging Cylons!!!!! The dogfighting animations were excellent, as were the laser turrets. The Lords of Kobol would surely smile on this fan film. Original BSG remains my all-time favorite Sci-Fi show. This fan film is flat-out SUPERIOR WORK.
Speechless. All I could think was ' well, you're a talented man" - I grew up in the 70's and read Starlog Magazine, which issue after issue, detailed the making of the original BSG: your work is exemplary - I would suggest, what you have delivered here, is beyond the original vision of Larson & Co. Your Galactica @ 5:16 onwards, is the MOST STUNNING I have ever seen the old girl look! Amazing. I'm speechless!
Gosh-dang this is good! The only reason in know this isn’t original dykstra footage is because it’s so vibrant. And that’s a compliment. If you muddied the lens and bit (and i am NOT remotely suggesting you should) no one would know the difference. That’s how spot on I found it to be! It would be a pure vanity project, and i doubt this would up the original series “street cred” by wide enough a margin to make it universally profitable, but what you’ve done here is proof positive the original show’s effects can be redone without losing an ounce of it’s 1970’-80’s charm and innovation! If i didn’t make myself abundantly clear, I LOVE THIS! Thank you and well done!
Outstanding. It was so respectful to the way the original ships "moved", and we love, but photographed with modern, dynamic camerawork. How I wish this was from a New TV movie- heartbreaking 💔. Nice work!
I miss that show so much. It had a lot of heart to it; much more than the remake. Even with seeing the same special effects over and over it was great. You did a good job on it. I wish they had CG back in 78; then maybe it would have lasted more than one season.
Awesome job! Love that it is the original Battlestar Galactrica from 1978. I'd love to see voices added to version 2.0 of people. Great special effects and nice to see the Colonials defeat the Cylons again! :)!
@5m 35s That close-up fly by of Galactica against the red backdrop then pans away to show the rest of the fleet as insignificant specks against the hugeness of that red planet an the expanse of the universe itself. Mind-blowing. Can’t wait to tune into next week’s episode o7
This is amazing. The ships all look gorgeous and the editing, camera angles & movements, sound & music are perfect. It’s Studio quality production. I love it. Thanks so much for creating and sharing it. Out of interest, what 3D software did you use for the ships & VFX. It all looks magical
@@lonknight3197 The remake was good just a different style of Battlestar. It made the Galactica feel like what it was designed to do a aircraft carrier in space.
I have waited many yahrens for a few sentons of this. Many thanks for this tribute. It brings back old memories of the original and still the best Battlestar Galactica.
OMG this is AMAZING!!!! if the 70's had CGI then this would be how it would have looked like. Truly amazing in every way, the attention to detail and sounds, music absolute perfection! if this is 1.0 2.0 will be cinematic perfection! well done!!!
Very well done by Peter Hirschberg. Takes me back to the pilot episode I first saw in the fall of 1978, when BATTLESTAR GALACTICA had its premiere on ABC. Glen Larson is smiling down from heaven.
Gosto de battlestar galactica dou nota mil tenho a serie completa com os 24 episódios dublados em dvd e também tenho galactica 1980 dublado com os 10 episódios em dvd viva battlestar galactica parabéns pela postagem
Nice work. I love when a story can be told without a word of dialogue. Sounds, music, and visuals all worked together to rekindle fond memories of this classic series. Thanks man.
Damn! Immediately transported back in time. So accurate while adding shots we never could've seen. It shows how much potential the art design had. Loved this so much!!
Not only is the all the rendering work, 'aerial' combat choreography, and cinematography incredible, the breadth and majesty you've managed to provide the Galactic is unique and completely new. And the way that power and magnitude is then applied to those scenes of the Big-G performing its actual, vital mission---leading that rag-tag fleet of defenseless civilian ships---really reminds the viewer of what's at stake in this saga. Well done, Sir! Staggeringly well done!
Brings back such memories. I was 9 when this series first aired, and I was absolutely mesmerized. I still think this Galactica is the best looking capital ship in Science Fiction. "The last battlestar, Galactica, leads a ragtag fugitive fleet on a lonely quest...a shining planet, known as Earth."
I absolutely love this version of the Galactica. The front of the ship coming towards the camera always reminded me of a dragon and just looked intimidating. Excellent work!!
Great Renderer! The Battleship and Vipers, Cylon Riders and Baseships are looking very New! Very good Work Mr. Hirschberg! And the Coursor on the Green with the Radarsound is creative! 👍👍👍
wonderfully done. now all i need is the Battlestar Galactica to rescue the people of moon base Alpha from space 1999 because in my mind set that is what happens.
Very well done! I watched this show in the 70's and it was one of my favorites. This has the feeling of the real show. The music and the sound effects! And thanks for making it the original show and not that over hyped remake they did which was so dark and grim. THIS is my Galactica and the only one for me. Look forward to more!
Nice, you did a great job capturing the camera angles from the original series, it brough back memories from when I first watched it, the only thing missing was the Cylon ship suiciding into the back of the landing bay. Loved it!
That was well done! I love the attention to detail of the "old girl" (Galactica) as well as the Colonial Vipers and the Cylon Raiders. This is what I was giddy for every Sunday night in 1978 as a kid. Long live the Galactica!! So say we all!! May the Lords of Kobol be with you always.....
COOL!!.. I'd give this a hundred thumbs up if I could.. I especially love how we get a true idea of the massive scale of the old girl. Something that just didn't quite come through that well in the original series
This is great work! The detail (even the bent German Panzer tank barrels from the Revell or was it Monogram model are there) is spot on. The use of the iconic score motifs that are hard to distinguish from the original series. My only quibbles would be the Cylon blaster bolts and the "anti-aircraft" fire from the Galactica. The original blaster bolts from the series were rectangular to save production time: it was far easier and faster to do than the rounded bolts found on the Star Wars movies. The other is the anti-aircraft fire, and this I find to be very common both in professional and amateur productions: the firing stops immediately when the fire hits and destroys the enemy ship. Given the lag time between firing and hit, the gunner would fire a stream walking into the target, with the hit coming before the firing stops.
Thanks for the kind words! Regarding the blaster bolts, I can promise you I used rectangular textures just like the original rotoscoped ones from the show. The glow effect I added plus the motion blur from them moving makes them look rounded.
Absolutely fantastic. The ship renderings and the fighting was immaculately done. Would love to see more and even those three basestars going against the Galactica.
Thanks for this and allowing my inner Galactican to dredge up memories from my earlier years, of many joyous moments rooting for Apollo, Starbuck, Sheba, Boomer and so many others to get of one last laser blast to take out a raider. Immense respect for your skill and dedication, and thanks to your long suffering wife to allow you to share this with all of us. From the UK, a fan of THE Galactica.
Oh, hey!! OMG yes! Your sound effects saved my butt on this! I have no idea how you acquired all your isolated sounds but I’m super grateful and would love to hear the story. 🙂 Glad you found my video! ❤️

Very well done! I watched this show in the 70's and it was one of my favorites. This has the feeling of the real show. The music and the sound effects! And thanks for making it the original show and not that over hyped remake they did which was so dark and grim. THIS is my Galactica and the only one for me. Look forward to more!
Can you imagine integrating these clips with the actual show? How awesome that would be!!! Heck, don't stop there, upgrade the entire old show! :D
Nice, you did a great job capturing the camera angles from the original series, it brough back memories from when I first watched it, the only thing missing was the Cylon ship suiciding into the back of the landing bay.
Loved it!
Amazing work. Well done. One of my favorite sci fi series as a kid in the 80's.
Would love to see more and even those three basestars going against the Galactica.
awesome work of love, right here. i am impressed. i would watch a whole series with these effects and composition. greetings from germany!
Good times recaptured! Love hearing all the sound effects again. Thanks for this huge effort!
Brings back memories thanks you did a fantastic job.
Excellent work, well done 👍. Glad you found my sound effects useful 😃
Oh, hey!! OMG yes! Your sound effects saved my butt on this! I have no idea how you acquired all your isolated sounds but I’m super grateful and would love to hear the story. 🙂 Glad you found my video! ❤️
It looks very amazing.
Exellent !!!
An admirable job, thank you for being able to see the Galactic Ship with that image quality, congratulations.
Watching this made me feel like a 7 year old again. Thank you for making this happen and hope to see more.
