I'm probably the minority but I think, if TDKR underwent some heavy rewrites and didn't end with Bruce retiring indefinitely, that could've kicked off the DCEU along with Man of Steel.
I think a good compromise would be Nolan's trilogy being largely self-contained but still canon in the DCEU. So, essentially, when we pick up with older, grizzled Batman, the TDK trilogy is his backstory. Rather than him retiring after TDK, similar to what Adam is saying, I would change that to he continued being Batman but he retired later but he comes out of retirement either because of something going down in Gotham around the time of Man of Steel (if you wanted to do a solo Batman film before BvS) or directly because of the arrival of Kryptonians.
Criticism of that idea is that Nolan's trilogy was too realistic but I think that works to the advantage of BvS and the DCEU. A part of BvS, on display in the opening, is how Superman's presence has changed the status quo, made humanity question it's place in the universe and what it's previously known. Superman has shattered the belief that we are alone, that we're special. His arrival signifies a change, the transition from the realism of TDK trilogy to this new era and we could see this from the perspective of a fellow mortal human, Batman, who would be our surrogate.
Through Batman's eyes, we'd see the world as we knew it shatter and this new one take it's place. I mean, after Superman, suddenly the world expanding to include Meta humans and other super powered beings isn't such an anomaly, the status quo has already been drastically altered and Batman, like the average citizen, must come to terms with this and adapt.

_____ _____ that would’ve been a great idea rather than doing a recast. i would’ve loved to see nolan’s batman fighting deathstroke

    • @__________1175
      @__________1175 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@xavierramirez1911 Well, to be fair, I don't mind the recast. I still like Affleck in the role. My idea would be to essentially transition Bale's Batman into Affleck's and, if you think about it, it isn't a huge stretch. We've seen Bale's Batman become unhinged (the interrogation scene with the Joker, the first fight with Bane) and the way Affleck portrayed the character wasn't so different that he couldn't be Bale's Batman, say, 5-15 years later. I believe Bruce turns 30 in Batman begins and TDK is roughly a year or so later. So, if he didn't retire, 14 years later, he'd be about the age Affleck's Batman is.
Like I said, my hypothetical calls for heavily rewriting TDKR. I've long thought if you swap out John Blake with Barabara Gordon or if John Blake really was Dick Grayson, the movie becomes much better. That's a wall of text in and of itself but, to put it briefly, one of my alternate ideas for TDKR calls for replacing John Blake with Barbara Gordon occupying his role, no Talia al Ghul and Deathstroke replacing Bane (but I have mixed feelings on that because I like that interpretation of Bane).
I'd make TDK trilogy canon and then set BvS or the first DCEU Batman film, roughly 10-15 years later. So we have at least a decade wide gap between Nolan's trilogy and the DCEU Batman and we can fill in those blanks however we want.
This way, we eliminate complaints like "There was no Jason Todd in TDK trilogy and I want Red Hood!". Well, maybe in that decade, Bruce took in a teenage Jason, he died, and Bruce retired and now we're picking up with him coming out of retirement.
If people are like "I want Tim Drake/a new Robin!" then, instead of Carrie Kelly (whom I don't care for) Bruce can get Tim as his post-retirement Robin. Franky, John Blake's ability to deduce Batman's secret identity is more Tim-esque.
So, there's a variety of ways TDKR could be rewritten but this hypothetical simply calls for the movie to be set closer to TDK instead of having an 8 year time skip, Bruce to still be active as Batman, and for him to remain Batman when the film ends and, possibly, introduce Dick Grayson and/or Barbara Gordon but (they could also possibly be introduced in the ten year time skip to the DCEU Batman if needed).
This way, Nolan's trilogy is isolated from the DCEU in some capacity and remains largely self-contained but now when we pick up with older, grizzly Batman we've seen a considerable amount of the context and can infer how he got to this point.
P.S. I also like the idea of Bane surviving and being in the Suicide Squad with some fucked up scars on his chest from where Catwoman shot him point blank with the Batpod. Possibly how/why he's introduced to and begins using Venom?
P.S.S. I figure Bruce can do what he did in TDK and get a new suit which would be the Batffleck suit. It could be that in the passage of time, Lucius has managed to develop a suit that's more durable but also more flexible and Alfred could introduce the voice modulator for a variety of reasons. He could say something snarky like "So you won't require throat losages as frequently" or more rational like "Times have changed. Now everyone has a computer in their pocket. Best that Bruce Wayne's growling voice doesn't go viral". I think that adds a more interesting context to our introductions to the new suit and voice modulator in BvS.

I would have made her character more of a villain starting out, have her evolve into a hero as the story progresses, and make the ultimate sacrifice after giving Alfred the password on national television.

Turned my life around, swallowed the anger, left school, got a job, and focused on what I had left. Then they died. My mother, my little brother died. Murdered. You should've been here, you should've been here for us, for Gotham."

Terry could still be Bruce's illegitimate son from his teens or he wouldn't have to be Bruce's son at all; but his character is by far more interesting, recognizable, and wouldn't have left the fans pissed off that a nobody became the next Batman with no real motivation.

Love your how they should have booked videos but the end of this was a tad rubbish with the Selina Kyle batwoman thing. So here's what I propose.
JGL goes unnamed for the entire movie instead of being John Blake. Just a a guy who was inspired to be a cop from what happened to his parents (you'll see what I'm doing). Everything can play out exactly like you had it. But at the end instead of Selina Kyle becoming batwoman we can keep something from the original that JGL finds the bat cave...only for Alfred to be expecting his arrival and already making him a suit in the wake of Bruce Wayne's passing. Alfred then asks JGL " after being a cop for so long black isn't really all your color is it now" and JGL can be like "you're right, add some blue to it"
Alfred goes "As you wish...Master Grayson"

Your version has been really better from the original, except for the conclusion. I'll stick with the original version of the conclusion, and Selina Kyle can't be Batgirl, she is Catwoman. Also, what could Alfred do to train Selina?
About Batman as a symbol, I have an idea too. In my opinion, it would be good if in the end, the idea of "Batman as an ideal" is proven to be too idealistic. Bruce realizes that even in the end, Batman is just still flesh and blood. Why? Because Batman can only exists because somebody can, and that somebody is Bruce Wayne. What Batman has done for so long is doing what a man can and should do. Therefore, anyone can take the mantle of being that one, but that person does not necessarily have to be Batman or to have Batman's ideals. In the end, what Batman can become is a symbol; a symbol of courageous to fight for justice. This realization is asserted by Selina and Robin (yeah, I'd prefer calling him that), and eventually by people of Gotham. With this new view on Batman's role, everyone realizes that each of them can do somethins as who they are, not as Batman, so they can fight together bringing their own ideals, but still reaching out to the same justice. In the end, Batman does not become immortal because he is an ideal, but because he is the first one among the people of Gotham to prove that one can do so much in order to fight dor justice. He is not an ideal, he is a symbol and an example.
    How about that?

Instead Selina becoming Batwoman, I would have Joseph Gordon Levitt's character be introduced as Richard Grayson, former circus artist, family killed by the mob, you know the drill. He became a cop to help the city. At the end he and Alfred meet and Richard tells him that Bruce chose him as the next simbol for Gotham.

    • @__________1175
      @__________1175 6 ปีที่แล้ว

If it were up to me, I'd just replace Blake with Barbara Gordon.
However, I always thought they could've made Blake into Richard Grayson and that could've worked. I don't think the circus performer bit would've worked in Nolan's trilogy though unless it was done in an incredibly plausible way. While they were taking liberties, I would've said Richard's parents owned a little ballet studio and gym and the mob hit them up for "protection money". You know the drill. Parents didn't pay and they had an "accident". Richard would be a teen that aged out of the system and becomes something of an amateur street brawler similar to Bruce in Batman Begins, punishing whatever thugs he could get his hands on. Maybe one day a cop (could be Gordon but that'd be a bit convenient) has him join the GCPD so he can get paid to put away the bad guys, make a difference. But Richard doesn't feel they're doing enough.
Then Bane executes his plan and Batman returns.
      The rest is history.

Only thing I would have changed about the Dark Knight Rises is
    1. Not have him be retired for 8 years
    2. Not send all the cops underground
    3. Establish that Talia is Talia from the start
I don't know why so many people are obsessed with killing off Bruce Wayne/Batman. Superheroes DO NOT DIE in movies. They die in comics and come back to life. This isn't a Godfather type film. It's a super hero trilogy. Only reason it felt like an epic movie trilogy is because Christopher Nolan is really good at what he does.

    • @radrno7
      @radrno7 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I agree with you but I would change a few things:
      1. Starting with an old distant Bruce Wayne = Good idea
Motivation for such uncommon decision = Bad execution
Even if earlier threats had been stopped, there would still be threats to the city, so either him or Alfred should've had a backup plan. Do you remember the scene with Blake telling about Bruce visiting the orphanage? Why didn't they just start the movie with that?! It would've not only been a better introduction to Blake's character, but also much better than some exposition dialogue about how Bruce has changed since then. Or even better...
Solution: Have in that flashback sequence, Blake try to reach Bruce before he left and Alfred actually turn off the car, the door opens in front of the kid, who has a shocked face, and without showing it's Bruce just yet, have him say something inspirational like "Don't be afraid. Darkness is not what shuts us away. It's what keeps all of us close", to be referenced later when Blake possibly meets broken Bruce again.
      2. A more severe Comissioner Gordon = Good idea
He have a sense of strategy/control = Bad execution
Gordon was a good developed character ever since the first movie. Even without guns, people or any sort of "power" in Gotham, he still managed to show himself useful against crime. So... what the hell were they thinking making him accept putting the "close-to-being" murderer of his family as a symbol of hope instead of, hmm I don't know... the Joker?! You know? The maniac that was behind everything in "The Dark Knight"? I know he was supposed to "represent the law and how the law corrupts itself for greater good" but that was both a plot hole and a character contradiction, which was what made him consequently reckless in "The Dark Knight Rises" and managed to make the entire law force in Gotham just seem rather stupid and weak against a quite clear "too big for Gotham" crime situation. So...
Solution: Hmm... what kind of solution can there be? Maybe work with Batman, the one he had trusted 'til then and that he has pretty much screwed since day one putting the entire city against him? Create a special force of vigilance, Batman being the eyes through the sewers and Gordon being the fists digging for Bane. They get trapped because of Catwoman betrayal, and everyone watches the epic fight between Bane and Batman, showing in true light how not only Bane is truly superior to Batman physically, but also how Batman has only been working in the shadows and using gadgets(because of his state of health), breaking the true symbol of Gotham right in front of them, and THEN giving a true reason for the disjunction between Gordon and Batman.
      3. Revealing a plot twist = Good idea
Using Talia as a such = Bad execution
That was... really confusing. First, she sleeps with Bruce after a not very established relationship, which I'll admit was good finally seeing Bruce catching a break for once, but doesn't make us really care about her, and adding the bad actress on the role, it was just... lame to see that uncovered. And not only that, but also her plan is just dumb. She had many opportunities to kill him, including the best ocasion, broken in his cell, just perfect to be tortured by her, but no, she decides to go through all of that and suddenly stab him in his superprotective suit. Wasn't it already enough her ruining Bane's origin, she had to ruin his death too? Ughh...
Solution: Well... I would have her just show up a few times as his girlfriend or something, without him knowing her true identity. Bruce feels like he can finally settle down and she represents that temptation. And at the end, instead of Talia dying in the truck, right after Batman manages to get out of Gotham with the bomb, she just whispers into Batman's ears: "You knew it all along, didn't you?" and he just answers it with a smirk, and an explosion happening in the horizon, where maybe Morgan Freeman could say that not only was the auto-pilot fixed, but also that there was no detonator because there was no bomb, Batman just wanted people to think it was so he could be motivated to not only get a protection task force on Gotham to replace him, but also to get out of Gotham, because Bruce shouldn't be a symbol to a corrupt city, he should live somewhere that stands that symbol on itself.
Damn... this was hard to come up with but goddamn... it would've been a much better movie. To be honest it could've been a better franchise as a whole and I hope Batfleck manages to do that, but I'm glad we actually have such a full circled superhero franchise to look up to.

      @@radrno7 Nah, that's pretty flawed.
Gordon didn't screw Batman, they had an agreement. I think you need to watch The Dark Knight again. Batman chooses to take the blame, it's Gordon that initially doesn't want him to. Joker had been captured elsewhere and Harvey's body was at the scene of the crime. There was no getting around it. Either Harvey was going to be exposed or Batman had to take responsibility for Harvey's crimes to maintain his image and the things he put in place legally that were upheld by that image.
In TDKR, Gordon does work with Batman, Batman meets him in the hospital and it's Gordon that tells him Batman needs to return.
Also, Batman faking a nuclear bomb threat just so he could leave Gotham? Just...no. Gotham needs a Batman. Batman shouldn't leave or retire or whatever. He either keeps being Batman, dies in action, or retires when he's physically unable to continue. Anything else is out of character in my book. Bruce Wayne has dedicated his life to Batman's mission, it's a contradiction in my eyes for him to just abandon it. Bruce Wayne sacrifices his happiness for Batman and, by extension, for Gotham. That's a key aspect of the character.
      My changes to TDKR:
      1) No 8 year time skip. Batman never retired. It's, at most, 2-3 years later.
      2) Bane is the legit mastermind. You can have Talia but I'd rather she be more like she is in the comics and not a straight up evil villain. Even if she helps Bane initially, I want to see some reluctance/doubt in carrying out Ras al Ghul's mission.
      3) Either replace John Blake with a late teens/early 20s Barbara Gordon or change John Blake's name to Richard Grayson and get rid of his deus ex machina deduction of Batman's identity. OR don't have either character/the role at all.
      4) Neither Batman nor Bane dies at the end. It could appear that Bane died, but he didn't. At the end, all the criminals Dent put away are out and walking and whatever legal precedents Dent's image allowed are gone. Gotham is seemingly back to square one. But Batman, cleared of Dent's murder, is definitively Gotham's Dark Knight and so, even with the shitty circumstances, people have hope.
      5) The movie/TDK trilogy ties into the DCEU and Batffleck is Bale's Batman, give or take, a decade later. This way TDK trilogy is somewhat removed/isolated from the DCEU and largely self-contained like Nolan wanted but it works as Batffleck's back story and we can fill in the blanks of those 10ish years later as we progress into the DCEU (which could be used to conveniently introduce members of the Batfamily and Jason Todd's death).

    • @radrno7
      @radrno7 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Wow... I barely even remember this comment of mine lol
"Batman chooses to take the blame"
Yeah, my bad. It wasn't Gordon that screwed Batman, it was Bats that screwed himself. You wanna know why? Even if "Harvey's body was at the scene of the crime", there should be taken into account(sorry, my english is not very good) Gordon's family as well. I mean, they certainly weren't there for no reason. What? "Omg, Batman kidnapped Gordon's family and Harvey Dent sacrificed his life for them..." except that Batman has and most likely would NEVER threaten innocent people, and even then, why would Harvey be there? "Omg, so Batman wanted to kill Harvey Dent?" Ehh... Idk, seems a bit too convoluted to me. Specially when they had not only a witness but, you could even argue, an accomplice, Ramirez, the hot latina cop Harvey uses to get Gordon's family (there could be Marone, if he survived the car crash, but he'd probably sell Batman out to get his business back on the streets).
      "Joker had been captured elsewhere"
So? He managed to kill Comissioner Loeb and the judge with a few contacts here and there; he almost killed Gordon disguised as a cop; he almost killed Harvey with a rocket launcher(!); almost managed to kill Batman for a second if not for Gordon's and Harvey's plan, which backfired and ended up getting Rachel and a lot more people dead, while Joker was LOCKED UP. So yeah, underestimating Joker is hardly something to be taken into account. And considering that every time Joker makes a plan, he actually succeds, it would make more sense for people to think Harvey was the victim and therefore, both him and Batman were the heroes trying to stop Joker yet again.
      "Gotham needs a Batman"
I guess it does. But does it really deserve though? I know it's the whole point of being "The Dark Knight", but one thing is doing it for the better of greater good, but another is going on an endless crusade for a city that was, is and will always choose to do the wrong thing (yeah, I know that in the ship scene, neither the civilians or the criminals bombed each other, although it didn't quite make sense why they didn't do it, but you can tell most people there would've done it, now why they didn't just fight each other for the detonator is a different story...). Aaand even if Batman did change people's minds, that wouldn't solve the issues we saw that torn the entire symbol Batman stood for to shreds, society itself. Buuut I guess I'll have to agree with you because that's an inherent character flaw from Batman himself since the original comics, a rich kid that lost his parents, which drained him from his empathy, and never really saw much after that until he was a well known vigilante, which is a pretty interesting concept of a real "hero".
"You can have Talia but I'd rather she be more like she is in the comics"
You mean the part where she drugs Bruce and...
"...and not a straight up evil villain"
      ...oh. Nevermind.
"I want to see some reluctance/doubt in carrying out Ras al Ghul's mission"
Yes! Some nuance to her character instead of just bloodthirst for an empty death.
"get rid of his deus ex machina deduction of Batman's identity"
I just assumed he did some detective work but yeah, could've done something better.
"Gotham is seemingly back to square one. But Batman [...] is definitively Gotham's Dark Knight
Ssss... almost had me there. You see, the whole point of Batman retiring is that he's getting old, tired and closer to the end, like the franchise. Sure, it would've been awesome seeing Batman kicking ass like Batffleck, but to see a great hero get beaten so brutally for the first time, with so many disadvantages against him, gives just the right weight to the character. And to see all he's done in the end be all the same, not only there's no progress in the story, it's like nothing made any difference because Batman is not perfect, he will lose someday and all his efforts gone with him, and no creepy statue is gonna really change that.
"TDK trilogy ties into the DCEU"
Hmm... not a bad idea. I would add Nolan returning to make at least a "Nightwing" movie and then someone make a "Teen Titans" movie with him included (hey, even if it sucks, at least it wouldn't be as big of a fail as the new TV series...). Of course, if "The Flash" movie actually does the whole flashpoint arc and reboots the mess in the DCEU, maybe, just MAYBE there's some hope...
Sorry for the really big speeches, I just sometimes end up monologuing with myself like Mojo Jojo... and I love to talk about movies.
TL;DR: I don't disagree with neither of you, both of you gave some great new perspective to me and I just really enjoyed giving my two cents. Thanks for the insight!

@@radrno7 You're thinking of Batman as we think about him. The movie demonstrates that people are more than happy to throw Batman under the bus if they think it'd help despite his heroic actions. Furthermore, why would Gordon's family rat Dent out? The movie tells us the importance of Harvey's image. Taking down the mob and organized crime is, in large part, due to Dent and those policies rely on Dent's squeaky clean image. if Dent's actions were revealed, everything would be undone. This was obviously of such importance it was worth Gordon sacrificing his marriage as the opening of TDKR establishes his wife took the kids and left him. Blaming the Joker is a possible solution but they just didn't have time. Gordon and Batman were at the scene of the crime and Batman did technically knock Harvey off the ledge. To try and pin it on the Joker would require some kind of evidence and there wouldn't be any. Batman is a vigilante that operates outside the law. He's a mystery to everyone but Gordon. He knows he can bare the blame for Dent's actions without anyone batting an eye. As for Ramirez and Maroni...who'd believe the testimonies of a dirty cop and a crime boss, especially over Jim Gordon? With Batman taking the fall, Gordon and Batman have complete control over the narrative and could spin it to suit their needs. Besides, being Batman isn't about being a hero. Like he says when Gordon tries to talk him out of it, "I'm whatever Gotham needs me to be".
But it doesn't always want to do the wrong thing. The ship scene and the end demonstrate this. As for why they didn't blow each other up, please rewatch the film. It's all laid out. I'm paraphrasing but I believe the line is "But we're still here so, that means, they haven't decided to kill us yet either". And then one of the prisoners, the big one takes the detonator for his ship and throws it out the window citing beforehand he would "Do what you should've done" however many minutes ago. That prisoner knew their ship wasn't the one that deserved to make it if only one of the boats could. But the civilians realized the prisoners hadn't killed them either and despite them being imprisoned for committing crimes, that doesn't mean they deserve to be mercilessly killed. It demonstrates that people want to do good. "What were you trying to prove? That deep down everyone is as ugly as you? You're alone".
EHHHHHHHT! Wrong answer! Somebody never read The Dark Knight Returns. Batman retiring was just something Nolan decided to do even though, as I said, it's something of a character contradiction. In the film he does it so he can have that normal life beyond Batman, the one he thought he would have with Rachel. Instead he gets it with Selina Kyle and everything is wrapped up with a nice bow. But Batman doesn't get happy endings in the source material. Batman's all about the mission coming before everything, especially his own happiness. Batman doesn't live a happy life. To Bruce Wayne, Batman is a duty that must be carried out even at (pretty much definitely at) the expense of the person wearing the cowl because Gotham needs a Batman. Batman isn't just some dude in a batsuit roaming rooftops. He's a pillar of Gotham's legal system. The whole reason Gotham gets better and the police can do their work is because Batman is the law that neither answers to nor is above the law. He answers to no one but himself and his code maintains that he saves lives, doesn't take them, and upholds the legal system in place. Batman insures Gotham's legal system works. Batman retiring, to me, doesn't work because (in the comics and, like, all other media) what Rachel says is correct. The day will never come where Bruce doesn't need Batman and Gotham always needs him again, eventually. Batman's mission never ends. Even if he loses, his efforts aren't gone because Batman isn't just a man, he's an ideal. Anyone could be Batman. Whenever Bruce is unable to carry on, someone else dons the cowl. Gotham must always have a Batman.
I don't know about Nolan and a Nightwing film. I'd like Nolan to have involvement in the DCEU in maybe a producing role but the DCEU is where things should be pivoting to be a little more traditional comic book movie and injecting some more outlandish elements. While I'd like Nolan to have input, given that realism was his specialty and he's likely moving on to other projects, I wouldn't have him in an integral role unless he wanted it. Nightwing could be introduced in this alternate TDKR or in the gap between it and the DCEU in my hypothetical. In my hypothetical, each Robin would likely be recruited as a teenager at the earliest.
      It's all good. Same here.

I liked it, more or less, up until the "kill Batman, Selena becomes his successor" bit. It still feels so far off from the spirit of Batman and the comic books. Batman typically always finds a way to survive, and bring his enemies to justice. With this reworking, Batman rises only to fall again by dying. It's only marginally better than the film's ending (which I felt was insulting to the character), and it would likely still suffer from a lot of pacing problems of the actual film. Long stretches of time where there's no action, no Batman, and nothing exciting happening.
The Knightfall storyline is a really damn good one with Bane besting Batman physically and intellectually by unleashing all enemies from Arkham into Gotham, weakening him to where he's exhausted by the time Bane confronts him. It's then Bruce having to recover and reclaim his city from the unstable Jean-Paul Valley version of Batman, and restore order to Gotham as well as rebuild his trust with Dick Grayson and his other allies. That's what The Dark Knight Rises was missing - Bruce coming back stronger and more determined than before. Him reclaiming his city from chaos, and re-establishing himself as a better Batman. Not sacrificing himself for an ideal. I don't need Batman as a martyr, I need him as hero than overcomes, which is what the best Batman stories accomplish. Batman outwits his adversaries. Just having the film end with blowing up a building with him and Bane in it shows no sign of growth with the character. If he's reckless at the start, have him grow and develop into a better person, a stronger hero, and redeem himself from all the things he's done wrong. Whenever Batman has grown too out of control, too disconnected from his core values and goals, he rediscovers who Batman is, and comes back better.

Batman dying in the movie is perfect for the Nolan universe because "batman is what gotham needs him to be" and he needed to be dead to show that the city no longer needs him. The whole fight with Bane's army was to show that regular people will stand up for good, and thats why bruce decided to fake his death. Also, to protect the ones he loved, dont go after Celina, dont go after Gordon or Alfred, im dead, leave them alone. But i agree, leave out the Talia parts, forget that morocco or whatever desert prison.
But i agree with you guys with the radicalized, unfocussed batman wich is why i LOVED batfleck in BvS. Batman has lost so much and too many innocent ppl are suffering because has "morals" and "one rule". Then you essentially want the character to not be Batman. Batman's whole thing is sacrificing Bruce Wayne's happiness/livelihood for Batman's mission. He doesn't kill because Batman supports the justice system. He explains this in Batman Begins. He's not judge, jury, and executioner. He operates outside the law and holds himself to a strict moral code so he's incorruptible but can still let the system do it's work. Batman operates outside the law but he isn't above the law. These are essential aspects of the character and why his faking his death didn't sit right with me. To me, it's a contradiction.
Batman wants ordinary people to step up but he also knows that Gotham will always need a Batman lest you risk things reverting back to the old days. Batman's mission is never over. Batman isn't so much a person as he is a duty that is carried out at the expense of the one holding Batman's mantle. That's why Dick Grayson doesn't want to be Batman and short of Bruce Wayne dying, he rejects the cowl. To be Batman is asking too much of the person wearing the cowl.

I still kinda wish that they used the Riddler and bane in the last movie. Have the Riddler be played by the voice actor for Riddler from the arkham games. And throughout the whole movie, you NEVER see the Riddler. Bane is the face villain and Riddler is the one who's setting up all the trap puzzles and what not that Batman, as the worlds greatest detective, would have to solve in order to save people. Don't make it into a huge war type movie. Make it a small detective story with huge characters being killed off. That's what was part of the awesomeness of The Dark Knight. Then at then end when Batman thinks he's finally got the Riddler caught, The riddler is gone and has left a clue for batman. Then the Movie ends with that. Showing that the fight is never over.

With this, one of Batman's greatest villains is still at large and able to cause even more damage to Gotham. If you want to show that 'the fight is never over,' you could just have Batman hear about a robbery in progress from a police scanner or something.

First of. I like your version(definitely better than what we got).
2nd i feel you missed so much that comic book fans and Batman fans wanted.
1-Knightfall arc. Would've loved Bane bringing out Scarecrow and other villains from the comics(even if it was cameos). Would've loved to have seen Sharkhead, Killer Croc, Amazo. Think of the scene from "Cabin in the woods", where all the monsters were let loose. That's what it should have been.
2-Catwoman was probably the best thing in the whole movie. And you used her poorly by giving her morals and loyalty. That's not Catwoman. She should be like a snake in the grass. The only reason she'd help Batman is if she get's something out of it. Her becoming Batwoman in the end is soooooooo wrong.
3-There should've been an important death(not Batman). Luscious Fox could've been the one. Which would prompt his son to become "Bat-wing".
4-Robin Blake could've be made into a combination of the 3 Robins. His parent's being killed at a young age during a trapeze accident. Becoming a car theif as a teen. And being the only criminal that escaped from Arkham to help Batman.
5-The bond between Bruce and Alfred should be stronger than ever. Cause unlike a kid that pushes his parent away. Bruce is a grown man that holds his loved ones closer when he is in pain.
6-GOD DAMN VENOM!!!! THAT'S FUCKING BANE!!!!! Without it he's just a big dude with problems. The story should've been that Batman started to use Venom to fight crime (Thinking he's gone soft). But, once Alfred talks some sense into him and even a scene where he snaps at Alfred(pushing him down the stairs thus putting Alfred in a wheel chair). Batman goes back to basics. But Bane(with help from Catwoman) steel the Venom. Story of Bane should be that he's the weak link of "The League of Shadows". Born in a prison and raised by an intellectual crime lords in Mexico.. Thus dawning the luchador mask and injecting himself with the Venom to turn from a skinny paper weight to a muscular Adonis. With help from Dr. Hugo Strange.
7-Bruce should fake his own death at the end. Not to sip wine in FUCKING Italy. But to focus completely in leading the Bat Family and save Gotham.

It would’ve been cool if flashbacks showed us that Bane and Bruce knew each other in the League of shadows, and the two sparred together. Bane was the only student that could beat Bruce & He became extremely jealous and resentful that Bruce was chosen over him to lead the men. Ghul felt Bane was too unhinged to lead & needed further training. Bane’s face was badly scarred when Bruce blew up the building. Bane carried a deep hatred for Bruce & vowed revenge not only for himself, but also to prove himself as the rightful leader of the League of Shadows. Talia Ghul would be a friend to Bruce & a former lover who would aide Bruce in recovering from his broken back by taking him to The Lazarus Pit which has mysterious healing properties but the water loses its healing factor when removed from the unique mix of the pit meaning Bruce could not share it with the world.

I really like the idea from the comic books that Bane wears batman out by forcing him to fight criminals non stop for weeks on end before confronting him. Despite knowing he's a better fighter than batman, he makes sure that Bruce Wayne is absolutely drained so that he has the advantage.
I prefer Batman's demise to be Bane's master plan coming to fruition, rather than Wayne's grief being his own demise.

And it totally makes more sense than a cop with no training to take up the mantle. She has the skill-set, the knowledge, and the motive to do it.
Kudos to you. This story is wayyy better than the movie. I'd pay top dollar to see it on the big screen.

Bane says "so did you find your strength down there" and batman says "no, I found help" which is the worst comeback ever, that is the translation of them in the office saying "we'll come up with a better line later, this is just temporality, there's no way it's going into the real movie but instead that's the line Adam chose "no, I found help" hmmmmm well that's a shit comeback

    Yes, yes, freaking christ, YES!!!
This movie pissed me off no end from start to finish with no justifiable reason for such a sharp left turn into batshit, mundane, insanity of boredom and infuriating bullshit!
Thankfully, ALL your retcons and re-writes to the story, characters and tone shift it into not only a plausible story, but also, a compelling one that not only makes for a wonderful movie concept, it's also more faithful to the Batman mythology.
Incidentally, parts of these storyline ideas (I don't know if you've noticed this) parallels impressively with later depictions of the mythos in Gotham with the second Joker!
I commend you (and everybody else's contributions involved) for this quite fantastic piece of retcons and re-writes, and Thankyou for (finally) giving the Dark Knight a fitting, suitable and honourable end which not only works in tone, but also with the utmost respect to the Mythos and Franchise.
    Thankyou again.

This "should have" series is more entertaining than I was expecting. We all have our own ideas of how to make many of these archetypal character stories for the screen. A lot of things are understandably and necessarily altered from cannon to bridge the gap between the insane amount of source material developed over the years and the shorter, more cut and dry versions we need for successful cinematic entertainment.
Plus some fresh ideas are simply better than cannon.
Wouldn't mind seeing a "should have" of Anakin Skywalker's fall from grace over the course of the E1-3, which might be considered an antiquated idea at this point, but this guy seems to have a head for good story telling.
