When a decorated Marine goes missing overseas, his black-sheep younger brother cares for his wife and children at home-with consequences that will shake the foundation of the entire family. BROTHERS tells the powerful story of two siblings, thirtysomething Captain Sam Cahill (Tobey Maguire) and younger brother Tommy Cahill (Jake Gyllenhaal), who are polar opposites. A Marine about to embark on his fourth tour of duty, Sam is a steadfast family man married to his high school sweetheart, the aptly named Grace (Natalie Portman), with whom he has two young daughters (Bailee Madison, Taylor Grace Geare). Tommy, his charismatic younger brother, is a drifter just out of jail whos always gotten by on wit and charm. He slides easily into his role as family provocateur on his first night out of prison, at Sams farewell dinner with their parents, Elsie (Mare Winningham) and Hank Cahill (Sam Shepard), a retired Marine.

The kitchen scene when Toby losses his shit was intense. His character was .... well hard to explain. He showed some serious acting chops in this movie.
*SO* glad I watched the film before watching this trailer - this is *LITERALLY* the entire movie.
Holy shit. Just realised how much of the movie is actually in this trailer. It's basically the whole thing just without the ending. The only thing really worth watching it for is Tobey's performance.

+EminentKnight I think you're right. I have been watching trailers from other movies that I've seen already. If the trailers don't give away huge moments, then the movie won't be disappointing. This actually is the entire movie. :/ Lame, right? It's such a good film.

You shouldn't anymore actually. That was *THE* plot twist (that the husband is still alive and comes back), what the trailer doesn't show is all of the dad's / soldier's (Tobey Maguire) days in the cave, being captive, which is excruciatingly boring to watch... Especially if you now know the plot twist...!
I don't think the impact of the movie is the plot twist. It is the character arc of what you hold onto to get you through the hell that war is, and then coming home to realize what you held "sacred" is not anymore. . .
John C Too true, I do have to admit that I would watch this film for the second time just for Tobey Maguire's acting. He has the ability to explore some deep shit in the latter half of the movie. HOWEVER I don't think I could've survived through the boring first half of the movie had I known the solution for it...

The father was away, soldiering, therefore they didn't connect with him well.

I think all comments on movie trailers should be restricted to being "yes" or "no". Obviously a yes indicates one should watch the movie, a no indicates one should not watch it.

ANY film that has Tobey Maguire is a HIT!
I didnt go into this film expecting much, even with such an amazing cast, but it definitely pulls you in and makes you feel for the characters. Its one of the most emotionally-powerful films Ive seen on streaming on Netflix and I strongly suggest it to those with the heart to handle such pulling emotions presented in the film.

I haven't seen this film yet, i will tonight but from this trailer what i can see is basically the entire movie:
He falls inlove with his brothers wife, the brother was found alive and returns home.
The brother has gotten paranoid and different because of the war, he start getting rough with his family so Jake gylleenhall has to protect the family which makes Maguire even angrier so he starts freaking out BLABLABLA 2:05 Maguire makes a stupid move with the gun and gets shot...Jake wins the family.

That's so sad... Knowing a couple of people (including a cousin) who had severe PTSD from serving, this makes the story even more sad to me... Now, 6 or 7 years after the fact, you'd have never guessed my cousin had had any problems at all. When someone doesn't have that work out for them, it's pretty heartbreaking.

They didn't sleep together, but even if they did I would see nothing wrong with it. Yeah it seems pretty weird.. But society actually used to run that way at one time. The brother takes in his deceased brother's widow and children. They basically became his, in those days.
Man, this was a good one. I love this film. The only thing is the trailer shows you the whole film. You know exactly what will happen throughout.

I don't know about ya'll but...If I came back from hell the last thing I want to know is that my emotional support[ my family] is now against me. My kids hate me and like their uncle better, are you kidding me? My brother whom I saved before fucked my wife...I too would have a damn break down.
