Thanks for posting, it is unique to see the highlights from the sideline cam. Bernard was a monster in the 84 playoffs averaging 35 points. He held his own and gave the team that would go on to win the title that year a run for their money.
I went to college with King at TN. What a relentless scoring machine. And a great rebounder and passer. Nobody could ever stopped him, college or NBA. He used to sit next to me in geography class so he could borrow the sports section from my newspaper. Nice guy.
Bernard King taking the series to a 7th game against that stacked Celtics team. Look at what Bernard King has as support on his team, and he still took that Celtics team to game seven. That is a great Celtics front line he is scoring 44 point on. He took the Knicks to game seven against the Celtics that won the championship that year. Sad he got the knee injury. Would have been great to see a healthy BK with Pat Ewing.
@@arizjones I didn't think so, unless they'd picked up the draft pick in a trade. The what if Bernard King and Ewing playing together talk doesn't really make sense.
I've always said the reason the Knicks didn't win a championship during that era is bc Bernard King wrecked his knee & when he finally worked his way back the Knicks management did some really stupid shit by trading him. He was only like 85% of what he used to be but still better than 95% of the other small forwards in the NBA. Had they paired him with Patrick Ewing they definitely would've been a serious threat to win it all bc King would've been the primary scorer which makes much easier for Ewing inside.
Magic said it best...King was MONEY! If he had the ball and room to run at half court u could not fuqn stop that guy. Maybe the best baseline jumper in NBA history, what a quick release.
BK had a million moves. No matter who was guarding him or how they did it, he had moves that would not only score on you but make you look stupid. He was like a human machine-learning algorithm.
While there was an occasional flair to King's game, most of it was just brutally efficient, in some ways, not much different than Bird. A right-hander who loved the left side of the court, If Bernard got the ball in his spots, he was unstoppable.
What a difference in style of play. Physicality, defense, heart, and skill. I don’t think I saw one three point shot attempted in this cut from the game and it was so intense and exciting. Pre injury Bernard King was an efficient unstoppable fast offensive machine.
Bird being the main man, coming out on top (to say the least), let’s call it… in an era with such forwards as Bernard King, Julius Erving, Dominique Wilkins, Charles Barkley, Alex English, Terry Cummings, Adrian Dantley, Ralph Sampson, Karl Malone, James Worthy, Chris Mullin, and so on… says pretty much all it needs to be said! BK was a beast though, especially at his peak!

Bernard was so good in these 2-3 yrs with the Knicks. Knicks the only east team to take the Celtics to the limit in 84.. King really carried them this yr
Bernard king did a lot on offense. But actually the reason the Knicks were so good was because of their defense. They had a defense better than the Celtics that year. And king obviously wasn’t a good defender. So he has more than a good supporting cast, they were just defensive guys.
Anyone that sucks on offense can be a pretty good defender if they put all their energy and focus there. I mean you need a mix of both, but they could have definitely used a #2 scorer with some offensive ability.
Bk one of the best ever! they dont make em like that nomore … he’s doing this while Injured from the previous series against the pistons I believe wit broken fingers on both hands and gave everybody hell still
Nah, he didn’t create enough for teammates to be close to the best offensive players. Both bird and Magic were easily better “offensive forces” because they were much better playmakers and created many more scoring opportunities for teammates. Being an offensive force is making your team as an efficient of offense as possible. Just mainly high isolation scoring with little creation isn’t going to be as effective. Hence the 1984 Knicks had a below average offense.
@@roundtable3501 you know your really obnoxious. You think your spreading your wonderful knowledge. King and hid team mates took Boston to the most difficulty in that round of the playoffs. In fact , bird is who I quoted.
Yall think Jordan didn't have any help early in his career?? Bernard had zero help!! The ball was in his hands 95% of the time! His teammates would just get the hell out his way!
Neither one of them were man to man defenders though. They replied on the fact that they had five guys that could give you twenty. King and Jordan both carried their offenses and it wasn't quite enough.
The reason why Ewng never got a championship is because he needed this guy beside him during his best years. I don't think Chicago beats that Knicks team firing on all cylinders. King could outscore Jordan or make a Jordan 50-60 point night mean little. Then, Chicago had no one for Ewing. Ewing could be decent offensively, but he had his problems in the clutch. That being said, Ewing and King seem like it have been a championship pairing,
