I went to the Tennessee game in 1975 in Memorial Coliseum and watched Bernard King drop a bomb on Kentucky. He was as good an offensive player as has ever lifted a basketball. He is in the same group as Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, Oscar Robinson, Wilt, Kareem, Michael Jordan, Kobe, and Lebron. No telling how many points he would have had without the injury.

If his knees were healthy they win some championships. NY already ran the World Champion Celtics 7 games with Bird, McHale, Parish, DJ, Etc. If Bernard never hurt his knees think about it....Young Ewing comes into the league without the pressure of having to score. So he can fulfill that role of defense, shot blocking, that had people comparing him to Bill Russell.

Possibly the greatest player in SEC history with Maravich being his only competition . I have never seen a more relentless player . Bernard King was the SEC player of the year three years in a row . He led the league in rebounding all three years and led the league in scoring 2 of the three years finishing 2nd one year by 2 percentage points to teammate Ernie Grunfeld . The thing about King was he was a great team player . He didn't take bad shots . He shot in the upper 50 percent He went to NBA after 3 years at Tennessee and some of the greatest players in NBA history simply could not guard him . Julius Irving said King was the most difficult player he ever faced . He wasn't fancy or flashy just efficient . What a Great Player he was .

      “Pistol” Pete Maravich
      Earl “the Pearl” Monroe
      Bernard King
      UNSTOPPABLE SCORERS!!!
Note: Reggie Miller was a pure shooter, not a “pure scorer,” likewise with guys like Dirk Nowitzki, Tom Chambers, and Kiki Vandeweigh.
The guys I listed above could score at will; if they weren’t scoring they were getting teammates involved.

Bernard King was the most intense player ever. I remember him getting his shot blocked and instead of being embarrassed by it he concentrated on getting the ball back and scoring. He was the greatest player ever to play at Tennessee and he was treated badly by local police and some racist boosters and was arrested for vagrantcy and if I ever got the chance to talk to him I would apologise to him for the way he was treated while he was here. The same people that caused him so much trouble cheered him on the basketball court and that is a disgrace. I can't help but feel that was the start of his personal problems that he had at the beginning and I admire him for overcoming all of that.

Tennessee fans worshipped Bernard King. When he played his last game at Stokely no Tennessee athlete ever received an ovation like he did. It seemed to go on forever. He is still my favorite player of all time. He had some problems off court because he liked to drink and do cocaine and he got into some trouble. The charges of racism are nonsense, but like a lot of blacks he feels that his problems were because he was black.

Rnld Lee : You mean “could/would have.” I agree 100%. That isn’t saying much because, while the average player is a better athlete than the average player of the past, the players aren’t nearly as good basketball-wise.
Even LeBron has some of the worst footwork I have ever seen on any player at any level. He gets over because he is supremely athletic and very coordinated, especially in his upper body.
Their fundamentals suck, they aren’t nearly as creative, and they don’t play defense.
The league is now watered down and weakened because of those things, and many top scorers from today would suffer in a league with the likes of Jordan, Pippen, Rodman, GP, Mookie Blaylock, Jason Kidd, Charles Oakley, Anthony Mason, and Mugsy Bogues guarding them.
Giannis, K.L. and A.D. wouldn’t know what to do with Rodman or Oakley on their asses.

I have long said I feel Jordan is the greatest largely because he accomplished what he did with less help than some other greats. Nonetheless, Bernard had even less help than Jordan. And no he did not equal Jordan's team success not by a long shot. But he did have even a bigger load to carry and he did pretty damn well offensively. Getting those very very ordinary, at best, Knicks teams to the playoffs. And they gave the powerful Celtics a good run that one year to seven games.
