Install a drip edge between your siding and the underpinning. It will stop the rot from happening in the first place.
I love the line: "I did it my way". Good for you. You got it done.
Ignore the negative comments.
I appreciate that!
You are the first man I've ever seen use a wrench as a custom 2x4 crowbar. Ill give you that, and a sub for it.
My husband was the family handyman .. elderly aunts, uncles, and parents called on him to fix things! Everyone of those projects got bigger after we opened up the job! I was his helper and errand girl! I learned a lot from him and you said you didn’t know what you were doing but you were spot on with your bracing and support pieces. Good job Tobin!
❤❤
Praise worthy effort by a family. Savor the rewards for a great job.
Thank you
You guys crushed it. It looks really nice.
Hey, I think you did a great job getting all the siding and all the other stuff done. It looks wonderful. 💖
Looks like Y'all did a great job. Can't wait to see what color you paint the house. GOD BLESS Y'ALL.
We just did that to our 1973 mobile home. We had to level ours as well and replace 50% of the subfloor.
Our subfloor has been such a pain! The ducts under the house leaked air for years, and caused so much moisture under the house. It warped most of the subfloor. We had all the ducts replaced, and have slowly been fixing the floors.
@@The5MFamily you have a advantage over us as our soil is adobe. We could build the pyramids with the soil our home sits on. I noticed your blocking under the trailer. It’s pretty good and with your sub floors, you may want to invest in heavy, mold, resistant wood . We use pressure-treated redwood for framing.
We just had our recently purchased 1978 leveled and are just beginning to get quotes to fix the floors and subflooring. May I ask you what the cost was? This video and the comments in this thread are making me feel like this is all a bit less daunting than I think..
That's the same siding we used for the mobile home, deck, sheds and chicken coop. Good stuff! Great job there! God bless all!
Yes, the old stuff we took down was cheap. We replaced it with the better version.
Is this called board and batten siding.
what is this siding called? and where did you get it? i am looking to redo my siding on my mobile home and do not want to go with traditional vinyl siding.
@@dianepotter2266 T111 smart siding.
@@Designs_Decor63 No.. it's called smart siding.
It all looked good to me. I more than likely would have repaired it all the same as you did. Good job, and I'm glad you had helpers.
Thanks 👍
Thanks for Sharing.
Great job.!
👍
Thank you so much for making this video. I'm kind of like you. Taught myself to do the best I can withing my budget and with my cheap tools. It has served me well most of my life. I am faced with a similar project on my mobile home, just pretty much like yours. 25 years old home and I am still holding it together as livable as possible for my family. Thanks again. Guys like you are my heroes.
You are so welcome!
You did a hell of a job man for not knowing what you were getting into so kudos man
Thanks!
I think you and wifey did a great job ! Hope you have a blast at archery !
Thanks.
Great job !! Nice to see husband and wife as a team. 👍

Exact same issue I got going on rn. That's crazy. Good video.
Good Job brother !!
Well done…projects always seem to be more than expected.
You guys did a great job !!!
Good job sticking with it. Looks good. God Bless
Lot of work
Bet it feels good to get it done. It looks very nice.
It is!
Great job! You guys did awesome!
Thank you so much!!
Great handyman knowledge is power
👊🏿🕊👶🏽💜🎉👊🏿🕊
Man I just stripped my entire Mobile home 🏠 and everything to rebuild entire trailer
Great job , considering you said don't have experience: looks very professional work congratulations 👍
Thanks 👍
That's a good dog.
Good job my friend what's nice I'm doing the same thing it's a lot of work
It looks great
I lived in a mobile home with my mom when I was 12 to when I moved out same type of siding and that siding sucked! The birds would put holes in it! Lol
Most of the siding had been replaced with a better version, but for whatever reason they didn't replace the front.
Woodpeckers will make holes anywhere! I keep covering up the holes they make on my house.
What you are doing caught my 👁️. good job
Awesome work job looks great
It looks like a job well done.
Did great job.
The module home manufacturer uses partial board because it is cheap and comes inl longer sheets.14 foot , with no butt joints in n the structure.
It softens over time and must be replaced.
great job
Good job man. The only thing I would say is the rot is because there's no Z metal (z metal is a flashing shaped like a z that goes behind and under your siding and goes out and over your skirting) and the skirting goes over the siding and it should be the other way around, siding sticks out further than the skirting so water flows over it not under it, like a roof, Get some Big Stretch caulk and caul the top of that trim on your skirting, or Butyl caulk, it comes in white too.
Buen trabajo
Gracias!
Looking good to me keep up the hard work guys
Thanks 👍
Replacing the damage is just a band aid…you gotta fix the cause as well which could be from the window or roof line.
They always are..We have always done our own handy work. We learn as we go..LOL
Looks good to me. I have no complaints lol
attach hoizontal 2 x 6 on studs brace to hoild up roof. tear out entire floor sub floor and replace as needed, other side, suport building then rip all rot out amen
plastic on outside traps moisture in the wall will rot faster next time, ugh, me x engineer retired inspector and remodeler 40 years experience
@@kenactofkindness4017 thanks for the input about the plastic.
@@kenactofkindness4017next time what.. what should be used
@@kenactofkindness4017what can be used for stop humidity?
Everything you did looks really good. I’ve been know to be over doing it .i would have put up ploywood outer wall over the vapor barrier , and than put the siding back up . Again that’s just me .
Good job proud of you God bless be safe love ya'll ❤️
Abiti, Masonite siding. The manufacure of the home did nit prime or paint the bottom of the siding, The under skirting nailed or screwed to the siding not allowing rain to "shed" off of the siding did not help it either.
Big job but you did great
I was thinking why don’t they design these with all the plumbing on one side of the house instead of having a hot water tank in a room to have the washroom HWT washer/dryer then kitchen like a t layout there bound to have leaks I started living in one recently into my moms I’ve been pulling out rot insulation under I knew something was wrong just been putting it off I knew no one else would do it I’ve done my fair share of Reno’s I did it for my family’s well being it was just bothering me I’m glad I’m getting it over with anyway
I agree!
Did you caulk where the two pieces of siding come together? How about where the screws went through the siding. Those are the places my siding is letting in water. Getting ready to start this project with my daughter. I'm a 64 yo woman and my daughter is 33. Any tips?
Tobin you are so handy around the house! Shanna I love the way you 2 work side by side on projects like this. Are you all staying with the grey color or going to change it up?
I want to repaint the entire house a dark green color, but Tobin didn't like that idea. 🤣 So, probably just repaint to match for now, then eventually change it.
@@The5MFamily a dark green would look pretty!
Yes your doing the wrhgt way kw wva🎉
I'm no construction guy but shouldn't you have hung the siding with nails because they have better shear strength than screws?
Maybe… I’m no construction guy either so I just do things the best way i know how to. I tend to use screws for everything I build. I didn’t put much thought into it.
@5M Family Homestead still, great video I just bought a trailer and this motivated me to replace the shitty plastic siding on it
Looks good to me. I'm no expert either 🙂
That ryobi ocilating saw was pretty weak huh?
Yeah I’m not overall impressed with it
No sheathing of the outside walls? Just naked studs? How does this not collapse? Can you explain please?
What is sheathing? How does what not collapse?
We put plastic up between the studs and the new exterior siding. That was shown on video.
@@The5MFamily Sheathing is usually 1/2" or so thick 4x8' OSB or plywood sheets which goes on the outside of stickbuilt homes. It ties the wall studs together so they don't fall over sideways. The sheets are nailed or screwed onto the studs.
We put that on in the video..
@@The5MFamilyThank you. Yes. At 12:58 in the video, it looks like the siding is directly nailed on the studs. This is not criticism, just a request for help understanding how these homes are made. On a stick built, they'd nail sheathing to the studs, then insulating foamsheet, then plastic foil, then stucco or siding. On your mobile home build, the siding goes directly on the studs. Is it supposed to be this way?
Maybe metal would be a better option or vinyl siding
There is no other wall besides LP / Smart type sliding???
I thought there would be plywood underneath?
how did it get like that? i thought there was supposed to be a lot more material between the pink stuff and the siding.
Nope. Siding, insulation and Sheetrock
@@The5MFamily ive seen older houses and new build with at least 3 materials before the drywall.
Only advice I'd give is use nails not screws nails are better at that task than screws ,screws will fail within three four years nails will last forever and better at loads than screws ,screws are more for cabinets things we assemble not framing always use non rusting nails or big lag bolts
My daughter brought a mobile home. She got a house. Went to move the trailer it fell apart. The floor dropped and the one side fell out.☹️
Oh no! That is awful.
He’s using a saw on top of his knees he’s crazy YALL
There are no rules when he is working with power tools. HAHA
@@The5MFamily lmaooo alright !
How much did all this cost to do i need to replace my siding also
I honestly don't remember, but we did this when the siding was still super high in price. I am pretty sure they have gone down.
You must learn to move the camera much more slowly.
Next year you’ll be doing the rest of the rim joists. Then the floor in the room where you just repaired. Mobile homes are a goldmine for contractors and, a nickel dimer for the owner. Always something to repair.
When will people learn, that these mobile homes aren't meant to last and are just meant to be temporary living? Even the higher end double wides are just stapled together with the cheapest and crappiest materials around and you'd be lucky for one to make it 20 yrs until it's paid for. These things really need to be banned, they at least should be banned from being sat anywhere near real homes and property owners and just confined to trailer parks.
It's comical that you have the word Appalachian in your profile but you are suggesting that a certain type of house should be banned😂
You must live in the upscale part of Apalacha...
Well bless your entitled heart. My stick built house had to have repairs just like my 40 year old mobile home. Don't speak about things you have no knowledge about.
Hey, I think you did a great job getting all the siding and all the other stuff done. It looks wonderful. 💖
