Great video Joey. Will you come teach me!! I am 43 and have tried several times to learn. I wished I had started back in the day when life as a grownup and parent didn’t get in the way. I love your videos and solo work. It makes me want to keep trying so don’t stop posting stuff.
yes! Most important thing before you mess around with pedals and make everything more complex. Find a good base tone with an amp first, build from there with the right pedals. :)
@@joeyjooones 30 years ago I got a 1976 Marshall Bluesbreaker (the mad heavy 2x12 beast with the comedy single handle on top lol) and this amp just worked with every guitar from my Tele through P90 and humbucker guitars. As a base amp it was perfect - for me at least. Get a great, simple ideally imho (not too many knobs lol) amp, ideally tube for me but you do you :) and then whatever guitar you plug into it will not only sound great BUT you can use a few pedals to dial in a sound that you will love for years to come. I can tell that Joey has found his sound - and a glorious one it is too - which everyone should do over time themselves. I don't have a scientific method to offer sadly, but you will just know it when you hear it and feel it 😎 The Telecaster is all the guitar you need, but my collection of 20+ guitars proves its not the only one you will ever want. Leo got it pretty bang on correct when he made the Tele and i just love its sheer simple rock and roll simplicity of design while being able to find every tone and sound i could want.
Great video and very emotional performance. I really like the sound. Thank you! Could you write the names of the pedals in the description, because you showed them in the frame and they were lit up and out of focus. And not everyone speaks English fluently, so it can be difficult to make out something from the words. Thank you.
Great video man! I'm digging the tones you are going for here, and I applaud your willingness to take a firm stand on some of your views and tone/pedal tips, etc. Some TH-camrs seem afraid to say anything definitive regarding tone so I appreciate that. If I could add a few thoughts - as you said, a Tele has treble and presence in abundance and I think some people stay away from it because they mistakenly think it's only about that bright and twangy sound. But I do think a Tele actually has a strong midrange presence as well, certainly not lacking. Historically it's been hard at times to tell the difference between a Tele and a Les Paul with early PAF's, example Led Zeppelin I. I liked how you talked about the pairing with darker mid-range focused amps like Marshall (which I also personally enjoy believe is underrated) and you contrasted it to some classic Fender amps. You probably are well aware, but just to add on to this topic for anyone else, mid-scooped Blackface amps (and I believe just about any amp with a bright cap) that sound quite bright at '3' on the volume knob tend to start to emphasize the midrange more (and roll off treble) as you turn them up to the point where they naturally compress and approach edge of breakup. A Deluxe Reverb set to somewhere around 5-7 on volume is a completely different animal and in that situation a Tele might not sound harsh at all if you can be that loud with your band.
So something I love, I am new to owning a AV2 blackguard 51 Tele reissue, not the custom shop, but the USA model. It’s absolutely incredible…now I’m a Les Paul guy through and through, my main amps I play through is first my Marshall Bluesbreaker and also my 4x10 Bassman. With the Bluesbreaker, if you channel jump them and dime out both channels, control your gain with your volume knob. It it this fat and glorious thick heavy tone that sounds totally saturated. It is glorious. But if you don’t dime them out, it will sound a bit thin and weaker…where as with my Bassman, anywhere through the sweep of the volumes it sounds great. I know the Bluesbreaker is basses off the Bassman, but they definitely have two different personalities when it comes to running a Tele through them. I’m so happy I live way out in the woods with no neighbors in sight. I put on my earmuffs and crank it up! ❤❤❤
That sounds like a dream scenario out in the woods! I'd love to crank my amp. I have yet to do so as I live in an apartment. I'm not yet a gigging guitarist but I've been a viola player for a long time now. I play in symphonies and stuff like that. Guitar is something I started at 40 so I'm waaaaaay behind compared to the viola stuff. I've got a Burriss Dirty Red 18w Marshall voiced head. It's actually amazing. Bob Burriss stopped building his amps about 13 years ago but this thing is a beauty. I play it through a Creamback. It's sort of a JT45?JCM800 circuit but it's got a Tone but it's got a Top Cut control that eliminates the treble spike. Most of the stuff I play is more riff based stuff so I've never tried for that blazing lead tone yet. I should just play some fucking leads LOL. Les Pauls and Bluesbreakers cranked has to sound glorious. It would make me immediately start riffing on some SuperUnknown, most likely. Limo Wreck, Fresh Tendrils, it;s just the sound of that combo. Anyway, I am rambling. Sheers dude.
THis is the kind of guy I want to be friends with. We literally have the same desk and guitar set up, and I love how he has fun with it. What a dude. God bless
I agree that these things affect your tone. Your tone is a sum of all of its parts…BUT not all of those parts I think are created equal. I think speaker choice should be the first thing considered when thinking of your tone. It’s the last filter in your signal chain, and would have the most prominent effect. Likewise if you’re di into front of house or recording, your choice of ir should be considered first before amps, pedals, or pickups . I would love to hear your thoughts on speaker choice and what speakers or irs you prefer with your tone.
My favorite Tele tone of all time is still Ian DSa from Billy Talent. Tele into Plexi / Trainwreck style amps is just chefs kiss. Wirey, punchy, textured, tons of attitude.
Wow came to this video for tone information and am blown away by your playing, tone and style! Do you have original music on Spotify or anything? Would love to hear some full songs!
Great video! I’ve always thought that the Crunch channel on my DSL sounds dead and boring without any pedal. I could Max out the gain and it still sounds empty somehow. But as soon as I kick in the EHX Soul Food it all comes to live.
Your Tele model is a high mid sparkled relic one. For example Player series telecasters (2018 and present models) have more attuned high frequencies and less sparkle and shrill. So it depends on your guitar's EQ. Still applies in overall after all. But knowing your EQ right is key. An EQ pedal will show you what you like or not in your tone curve people.
A Tube Screamer has a mid hump and tightens up the bass which is great with most Fender Amps but in combination with most more modern Marshall's there's better options in my opinion.
Man..just randomly bumped into your channel! You rock man!!! Love your content! You remember me a lot of Rabea’s first videos..do you have some albums or EPs already?
That's the issue though - I don't have fixed settings on any Kemper profile I use. Depends so much on the song, what's going on in the backing track behind it, how I need to push it, etc. etc. Get a Tele, a fairly dark sounding amp, and go from there.. it'll never be "my" tone anyway, but it could get you yours ;-)
I had TS9 into a 65 twin reverb for a decade and never managed to get a decent tone out of my tele. I switched to a 59 bassman which I am using with a JHS morning glory and my tele sounds legenday
I tend to lean towards HiWatt sim or Marshall Super Lead sim, but, I turn bass and mid 100% and 0% for treble. You're right, still ice picky treble, but I liked it somehow, although they sounded better when I'm using my humbucker guitar rather than my telecaster.
Interesting that you pair a Tele with a Marshall Silver Jubilee. One of my favorite local players always used a Tele with a Silver Jubilee for years, and he always had amazing tone, too. Guess he knew the secret sauce as well lol.
Joey.. love your playing style but, and I know it's a matter of dialing in the tone to personal taste, but I have a 68' super reverb drip edge silverface. It's the AB763 circuit that's identical to the blackface. I think that it sounds great with my American Pro II Telecaster. I use a tube screamer also. The rest of the video is spot on, though. Subscribed.
I use a mesa bogie lone-star special and a 65 fender deluxe reverb as a wet dry combo with an Andy Timmons bb exotic and odr 1 with a delay and a reverb tone heaven .
Me gusta mucho como tocas. controla tus gestos .. eso me decian cuando tenia 7 años en el conservatorio.. solo una sugerencia . tenes un talento unico . saludos
Naw, I want that clean, clean CLEAN Buck Owens sound, just got a FPS II; burning my hands. I have thirty plus gtrs to play that sort of stuff. Likes to you, brother.
So good. Love the tones. Do you own any Strats? I wonder what your ultimate Strat would sound like. I love both tele and Strat for different things. Also, would love to see a gear/desk setup and see what you're rocking!
Can you PLEASE show equipment you talk about in the video description? Sometimes I don't quite understand what you say when it's a pedal with a weird name, ect. I find myself going back and listening to the same 5 seconds a bunch of times trying to figure out what pedal that is.
Joey loved this video. I need your help…I have a fender tele guitar with morning glory and a Jet lion overdrive pedal…what amp would you get / recommend? I also have a tonex one pedal. Any advice would be appreciated. Definitely subscribed to the channel. Love your tone!
Hi Joey ! Just discover your channel and what a great guitar feeling ! On the "Good Telecaster Sound Example 2", you say you played on the Jubilee : have you mic it or is this take with a load box ? Greeting from france
What Tele model and pickups are you using? My Baja 60s sounds a little dull in comparison. Love 51 Nocaster and broadcaster pups… I’ve got a Bassbreaker 30R, I’m finding it difficult to get the sort of sound you get. My OD pedals are JRAD Archer, TS808 Tubescreamer, Fulltone Mosfet 2, Beetronics Royal Jelly Fuzz, and a Fender The Bends Compressor set up like a smooth light overdrive. Usually have the Bends and Archer permanently on with one or two of the others stacked into them (or the fuzz). Nice tones, just not quite ‘the’ tone. Would a Rat be a good choice?

Hello Joey, could you please recommend me some cool amp for bedroom practice (preferably with headphone out) to get at least close to your tele tone? I know you mentioned the original silver jubilee but that is too loud. Cheers and thank you for your content! :)

I will launch a series of online courses this year. Stay tuned.
I've been waiting for that for so long! Great tone, mate! Thanks a lot!
I love this dude's energy. Just fun to watch and listen to.
Everyone should be booking this guy for session work.
thanks Todd! ;)
Now that's what I call a guitar tone, absolutely love it. Great playing too.
yoooooooooo your soloing its so perfect and melodic! love your approach!
I also plug straight into a Kemper and page through the amps until I find an amp that sounds great to me.

playing, tone, facial expressions and riffage on that intro are JUICY! I instinctively HOWLED at the 0:10 mark.

Ive been using tele all my life, i absolutly agree with evrything u said and it was a very clear explanation!
Nice playing Joey & telecaster inspiration
Orange OR15 and Wampler Tumnus does wonders for both my Les Paul and Telecaster.

Thumbs up on your playing style!
killer tone, killer play ! congrats
What pickups are in that Tele. Sound soooo good.
I will never understand the hate a Tube Screamer style pedal gets.
Great video Joey.
Most people are expecting an overdrive pedal, and can’t understand why the Tube Screamer sounds so tame through a solid state amp or modeller.
That’s a thick ass tele tone dude! Keep it up!
What about EQ? Can't tweaking the EQ solve the issue?
All about frequencies!

The Browne amplification proteins Nashville OD is amazing too
Great tone and playing! Liked and subscribed! Ok…… I’ll buy a telecaster
For my taste, the best Telecaster tone is pairing it with an Orange amp, which is a low-mids focus amp sounding
Good combo indeed! The low mids of an orange balance out the brightness very nicely.
Try a vox wah.
Just plug it in line.
OD 2 on most marshalls give more mids..DSL JVM.
& the MG..If on a budget.

Subscribed for epic guitar face. Also recommend a Mark V 25 or 35 with a Tele. Very mid focused amp with post EQ. It will get you there.

Great playing combined with that killer tone! May I know what scale are you using?

You always sound and play great! I'm assuming these are you Kemper profiles here in this video? Fellow lefty here. Thanks!
Silver jubilee sounds amazing. You did not say orange!
Good lordeeeee, thasssss 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
Any chance of sharing these Kemper profiles with the community?
Metal muff petal is ok? For me no problem.
Amazing sound. What amp are you using in this video?
What pickups are in that beautiful telecaster?
Interesting video. Thanks for sharing this with us. I have a question though. What is the mid spectrum (2kHz, 5kHz?)?
Epic tone man! Hey bro, you forgot to mention Speaker which are at least 50% of the tone! May I ask what speakers you use with ur Silver Jubilee!???
Joey loved this video. I need your help…I have a fender tele guitar with morning glory and a Jet lion overdrive pedal…what amp would you get / recommend? I also have a tonex one pedal. Any advice would be appreciated. Definitely subscribed to the channel. Love your tone!

Second question: which Kemper Profile do you prefer i got marshall jubilee profiles too ist it good?
IDK man I love my tele into a plexi... But I always play with the guitar's tone rolled halfway, if not more
Hi Joey ! Just discover your channel and what a great guitar feeling !
On the "Good Telecaster Sound Example 2", you say you played on the Jubilee : have you mic it or is this take with a load box ?

Load box in this case!
What’s your opinion about a JCM800 and a King of Tone pedal with a Tele? Killer playing BTW
Sounds like a lot of good ingredients 🥰
My question what would be a good paring for a strat?
Any advice if you have s mesa boogie mark V and fender tele pro 2 or a fender blues Jr. I can increase mids and bass on mesa boogie

can you please add these in writing? the pedals
Dude you fuckin rock holy crap

Yo bro! I got a Squier CV Tele and I want to change the pickups. What do you recommend?
Maravilloso!!!!
How does the Marshall Jubilee compare to JCM800 (mine)?
Is this intro example an actual song? Cause it's a crime if it's not.
