    Great review - am awaiting delivery of this exact bike - can't wait. Been a believer for 2 years in my Caadx - incredible ride feel. For half the price of the SuperSix equivalent it's the deal of the year. I'm planning to ride the snot outta mine in crits, tours and CX races. One bike to rule them all!

    Just went out on my first ride this morning. Not sure what is the best thing about it; I would say the comfort and smoothness with the precision of the handling. It replaces an elderly Canyon aluminium bike, and it is definitely a step into the modern era for me. I have the 105 disc version, which is a boon for the long descents (I live in Switzerland). I had sub-compact rings (48/34) fitted for the hills and to save my knees. The only thing I don't like about it is the 'mantis' paint job, but as long as I am sitting on it I don't really see it. I even got used pretty quickly to the Prologo 'prolapse' saddle, so I am holding off fitting my Brooks Swift until I am sure, it can always go on my Brompton. I'll give it a solid 9+/10.

    OMG, this is awesome. And I actually looked at Cannondale’s webpage last night to see if there was such a thing as a CAAD 13 yet. There wasn’t... until now.

    I really do like the new design. I like the fact that the Caad 13 is incorporating areo shapes into the frame, but I better not hear a squeek outta that bb, the Allez also has bb30 and its never squeeked. Im more than certain it comes from the stiffness of the BB on the Allez, anyways I love the Caad 12 it is for someone who has to train on crap back roads, or city streets, its amazing how it absorbes bumps, something I do not ever do on the allez, I get jostled and uncomfortable unsettled feeling from the road imperfections. But fix that BB Cannnondale, then I'll come back!

    • @mark3412
      @mark3412 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I unfortunately have one and the bb shell is out of spec. Its 72mm wide instead of the stated 73mm. Yes it squeaks, knocks and eats bearings. Why can they not do bb shells to stated spec? Buyer beware.

    Great bike , and I’m a cannondale lover , and I own supersix, caad8 and caad12. The Caad 12 is much better to the 13 for me. It’s pretty impossible to upgrade from the 12. They should have just left it alone. No thanks 13.

    What I want to know is why is the 105 rim version of the bike for sale in the UK at the moment for £1600 when it is said to be £1330?
    Is this VAT knocking the price up or will it come down as the year goes on?

    this is indeed amazing....both bikeradar and cycling weekly upload the video on the same day, with the same model (the 4,000 one) even though the models start at 1,300 pounds...
    Snd of course, both are touching themselves over it because that is what you do in sponsored items. Even some of the dialogues are fuckin same!

    • @garybird8646
      @garybird8646 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's because they went to the same product launch in Oxfordshire UK and were handed the same bike.

    • @PaganiZondaF650hp
      @PaganiZondaF650hp 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This isn’t a paid ad. Uploading on the same day is because of the media embargo. When journalists/influencers go to product launches they get a date and time set until which they have to withhold all their online articles and videos so that everyone does a good instead of there being a competition about which magazine gets their content out first. And yeah, same high spec because that is what always gets provided for the launches. Same with cars, always the high priced and most profitable specs get shown off first.
      But I agree with you that these „first look“ videos are often pretty much just the company’s description of the bike they get in the press release because they all withhold their impressions for a thorough review

    My Boardman CX (£900) has hydroformed tubing and pretty much invisible welds, hard to tell it's not carbon (you need to look at the BB for any visible welds). I don't understand why Canondale/Specialised can't do the same?

    • @DangerDaveLok
      @DangerDaveLok 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matthew Franklin Spot on. Boardman was making smooth welding as early as their first hybrid and road bike came out in 2008/2009 or earlier. For both Specialized and Cannondale, unless those weld increases extra stiffness to the frame, I do not understand why they cannot use the welding technique demonstrated by Boardman.

      Great review fellow bike blog nerd (www.bikebagtrip.com) - let me ask you, I thought of doing exactly your process, buying the 105 and upgrading components. In the end went all in on the top of the line model. How's it working for you so far - be very curious to know. Also, how wide a tire have you been able to fit - do you think you could get a 38 or even 40 on those forks or rear stays? To me it looked super possible in the store - am scheming to race mine CX, but don't tell anyone :) Be well.

Not just on this channel, but most of the youtube bike channels, where they just seem to be reading from the comany’s promo material (very enthusiastically). I don’t see this uncritical approach in other genres (tech, cars etc) on youtube.

    The color is hideous and the seatstays ruin it. One of the allures of previous CAADs was the classic geometry. This bike looks like everything else, plus it weighs the same as the CAAD12? . On previous models, it was a no brainer. I am in the market for another race bike and Cannondale will need to convince me that the CAAD13 is a better option than many of the competitors, including the CAAD12. Not sure what is going on but Cannondales are starting to look like they are just taking different design cues from other brands and bringing them together IMO. Nothing wrong with that, but aesthetically, it doesn't work for me. If I wanted the non-classic design, I'd be looking at a TCR or an Allez/Tarmac.

  • @trumptman

    I don't understand why both Specialized and Cannondale have such ugly weld lines. My 2006 Trek 1500 has cleaner welds on it and likewise the Emonda ALR has very clean lines. If I were a betting man I'd bet they were left ugly on purpose just to differentiate between this and the carbon bikes. Several shops mentioned the reason the Emonda ALR isn't offered with kit above 105 now is just that Trek were losing too many sales to themselves but with a lower margin product.

    • @AvaPxiaO
      @AvaPxiaO 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I promise not to mention felt when it comes to this, but in defense of cannondale, welds are always ugly, even when done by the best of robots. To make them smooth I doubt a robot can handle the job, and the technician doing it by hand must be extremely careful not to wear out the tubing while grinding the weld. So this is hours of tedious work and would probably add 100s on top of the price.
      The benefit, a few 10s of grams of weight savings and a rish of ruining a good frame. Nothing else.
      Aesthetics?
      If you are willing to spend a couple of thousand for an aluminum bike I doubt you want to hide the welds and make it look like carbon fiber. So for some of us, those welds are part of the pride and joy of sticking to aluminum.
