I am not a guitar player but am a huge fan of guitar. You say so many good things while playing an amazing guitar that I am hooked on your channel. Blues. Play the note you need to play and leave that other noise out of the mix. It's like the sculptor that was asked how to sculpt an elephant out of a block of stone. It's easy. Just chip away everything that doesn't look like an elephant.
I got the privilege of seeing the master himself, Muddy Waters and Eric Clapton performing on the stage at the same time. Muddy started the show, but returned later in the middle of Eric's session, they were just jamming. By the end of the evening Muddy left no doubt in everyone's mind what a great master he was. I will never forget that night. It was all simple innocent blues for the real music lovers who enjoyed the artists not a carnival show with lights like you see these days. The truly great moments in a musicians life.
Worry, worry, worry is one of my favorite bb king songs iv been listening to it nonstop recently! The way he talks to the crowd about half way through is like a preacher, he had such control of a crowd and an amazing powerful voice. Any performer could learn things from listening to bb king. He could pack more emotion into 3 notes that almost anybody
Not the first of your videos I've seen (too numerous to mention), but definitely one of the best. As someone who learned, with enormous effort, to play the 3 chords required for "Home, Home on the Range" back in 1964 and a lifelong blues lover, thank you. Comes a time you eventually realise you'll never be BB, or Clapton or Broonzy or SRV, but videos like this make me want to get out the Fender Strat that's been gathering dust in the garage for almost 20 years. Thanks.

Great to get some folks recognizing that 'less is more' & that being a good soloist is NOT just defined by playing a million notes... but fewer notes, played with DyNamicS amongst the silences, although a different style, is still great playing. I love 'the 3 Kings'... so would have to vote for an extended study of all/any of them...

Your videos are so entertaining, I love watching them all. I don't even play guitar, but I love almost all types music, especially the blues. Your skills as a guitar player are obvious but your teaching and observational abilities are wonderful. I wish you great success sir.
Your playing is spot on and your analysis very sharp and informative…This is a terrific guitar channel! (And I happen to play classical guitar, although my early years were spent obsessing over all the great blues players and I still enjoy letting it rip from time to time….)
Love this! And your comment at the beginning “...playing 200 notes in 5 seconds. Which is ultimately quite meaningless”. Absolutely spot on! Personally, I’d rather hear 5 notes with feeling, than 500 without. The only exception to this, that I will make is Jimi Hendrix’s Red House.
Giving away my age here but my girlfriend at the time and her brother and friends got tickets in the late 70s to see Muddy play at the Stanhope House in northern NJ with the hopes that the Stones would show up for Muddy's concert and jam since they too were in town (NYC). No Stones but it didn't matter.....M.W. was fantastic!! Jim C.
All of the three guitarists are so recognisible. When I listen to BB King and Eric Clapton play together I can tell when Clapton and when BB King is playing solo without watching video.
I like very much these guitarists, BB King because he's blues sound happy, I feel good vibes when I hear I'm playing, Eric Clapton because plays with subtlety, we know what is coming next... But Muddy Waters is my favorite, is an dark blues, aggressive, it cames from the earth, from hell... 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Playing fast notes are also the component of blues and that sound great too if you do it perfectly. You cannot say them meaningless. They are powerful and often enhances beautiful fingerpicking.

I really love Muddy Waters’ solo. But the Slowhand one with the acoustic guitar is hard to beat too. I’m undecided 🤷♂️ lol . I would love to see you do a Muddy Waters video though!!!
Slow and smooth........soulful and expressive......always impressed me more than speed and flash.....unless your bringing SRV into the picture.....as for the query.......I couldn't really pick one over the other two......gets to be like comparing apples to oranges for me.......gotta get my strat lookin like that again......she almost got torched in a house fire......but I saved her.
When you started the BB King solo, I thought you were playing the intro to Fleetwood Mac's I need your love so bad. I guess BB King may have been an inspiration to Peter Green.

The only one I listen to is an italian band who plays some irish folk songs, called MODENA CITY RAMBLERS(they are brilliant songwriters and also perfomers, playing many different acostic instruments)
that's a good one, perhaps I should delve into that if I'd do a kick ass video, but I'm not sure yet, lot's of people do seem to want Muddy, which I can also understand

I remember reading an interview with an old blues guy (cannot remember who) and he was talking about tuning guitars in the days before tuning aids were available. He said the guitarists would often tune their instruments to the piano, trouble was - the pianos were nearly always out of tune! Can I second those who requested a breakdown of T-Bone Walker (maybe adding a reference to Bobby Blue Bland’s guitarist Wayne Bennett).
Great lesson! how soft or hard you pick the notes is something that's massively overlooked in guitar playing,even though its so important and makes a massive difference no matter what genre you play and i've seen even pro's overlook this. Please do some more muddy waters lessons! some of his licks would be great since they have so much personality to them! Also in the future could you do some Roy Buchanan lessons and Peter Green? both were phenomenal players but don't really get the love they deserve in my opinion. Roy was just like a vicious animal at times and so aggressive with his tremolo picking and lightning fast roaring licks and runs but could play beautifully when he wanted to using his volume knob creating beautiful and haunting sounds (his version of hey joe is a wonderful example). Peter Green was sort of like the British BB King in my opinion as he approached it in a tame, peaceful invocative way but still his way. Also the approached and also constructed blues songs was very different and unique.

Many great guitarists appear to have learned like this-Hendrix, Page, Clapton, Gary Moore, for instance-and then gradually worked out how to adapt licks and work across the fretboard. Maybe you could take something like Gary Moore’s version of ‘Need Your Love So Bad’ from Blues for Greeny and show what he copied from Pete Green and what you yourself would copy from him. Much as you do in this video actually, but at a bit more length. Would that be possible?

Perhaps if the entire band was tuned to the same out of tune piano, it would not sound as bad or noticeable as only one instrument out of tune.
