You know, you’re videos are truly unique. Your presentation and enthusiasm, the absolute effortlessness in speaking to the camera. The way you convey information, it’s almost as good as your playing. Thanks for the enthusiasm and honesty in your work.
Beatles are my favourite band of all time! Love Rock, Metal, Hendrix, Blues, Jazz,.... but theres just some magic in Beatles songs I havent figured out yet.
Beatles have always been my favorite band since I started listening to Music when I was about 10 years old. They are the greatest band of all time. Just incredible musicians and singers and songwriters! OMG there will never be another band as artistically talented as the Beatles! Thanks for all your videos!
Yes! A little love for Mr. Starkey, please. It is so remarkable how wonderful the supreme talent of those four lads meshed. Amazing. Now, I've got to put on Abbey Road, for the 2,568th time. 😎
not enough. the evolution of Harrison was remarkable ! a great rockabilly guitarist who incorporated a lot of Perkins style and even influences by Atkins. later on became a marvelous slide guitarist. Harrison deserves a whole video about him !!
I love those videos of how you break down a song. There's so much to learn from just one song when you thoroughly explain what went in the minds of the players.
That's the genius of George Harrison. He always thought with chords, even when he was soloing. With all due respect, Mr. Guitar Pilgrim, but I disagree with you when you say he wasn't a virtuoso like Clapton or Hendrix. I think he was a virtuoso on his own and had a knowledge about harmony far superior than Hendrix or Clapton. Take his early years, back on Ed Sullivan's show: All My Loving, 'Till There Was You... all those chords in between the solo. I don't know, I'd really like to hear you talk more about it because I think you're very knowledgeable. Maybe a video about using chords on solos? Who knows! heheh Cheers, man!
Eric - spot on. Chordal solos... take a look at the Pilgrim's video on Scotty Moore. This, together with Carl Perkins and Chet Atkins, is where George Harrison began
Eric : I agree with you 100%. George was an absolute Genius/Virtuoso !!! Clapton & Hendrix knew nothing about harmony. The Beatles three-part harmonies is so unique in their songs.
Hello, good afternoon everyone! I am Brazilian from the city of Rio de Janeiro and I follow this channel, I love the Blues and I thank you for everything I have learned here on Guitar Pilgrin. Congratulations on the channel. A big hug to all the North American brothers. God bless us. (Sorry, I'm using the translator)
I've always loved John's rhythm playing, a real under-estimated part of the Beatles sound, also Thom big thumbs up for your music selection, the 2nd side medley of Abbey Road is just an amazing piece of music
You are a pleasure to listen to and watch and catch some great teaching moments. These songs have become timeless and tireless classics. Your energy and facial expressions are entertaining. Cheers!
You're right!...I've been a massive Beatles fan since 1962 and i didn't realise how awesome George was on guitar! ...and spot on, he played what was needed as a team player, no egos. John, Paul and George played as one ( this could have been the secret of their success, you're a genius!)
I've heard Paul in a few interviews talking about the concept of "contrary motion" - one line of melody going up or down against a theme doing the reverse - with some enthusiasm. George was always more of a chord tone soloist rather than a scales player. Guitar Pilgrim right on the money again.
That's absolutely true August, in fact his very first song I Lost My Little Girl has contrary motion where the melody goes up and the chords on the guitar are G, G7 and C with the notes on the 1ste string G, F and E, thus going down....
You’re right, George was mostly a chord soloist. One of the best examples being All My Loving. Many people say George wasn’t a flashy virtuoso type of player, and he wasn’t, but his solos are a bit trickier to learn than say a Hendrix, Clapton, Page or Blackmore solo.
This was a fantastic breakdown! Totally agree how magical Harrison’s playing was. Thank you for putting this out into the universe. Made my day as I was just admiring this song last night with headphones on.
What a great analysis of this hardly known masterpiece showing how unique and what a gift of the universe it was to bring these 4 genius musicians for a decade together. The Beatles with George Martin left for us such a treasure of music for centuries !!! And you are super too as guitarist AND singer with your talent to hear and teach us about such hidden features. Thanks so much 👏🤩
@ Andreas Yes Andreas . But how did it happen ? It CANNOT just be random chance. ?! I go with the theory that : The Music already existed ...on a higher plane and the Beatles ( unbeknownst to them ) were simply the medium through which the Music came to the World. There is no other explanation .....
As soon as you mentioned contrary motion and Paul probably picking it up intuitively I thought of that Feynman clip! Great video- I love your combination of enthusiasm and expertise :)
Thanks!!!! I've been beating around on guitar since I was 13...I'm almost 51 now! You have an amazing perspective! I enjoy all your videos!!! Thank you!
It was the music, musicianship, harmonies and melodies blended together to make timeless music.. each and every note placed exactly where the feel of each song was accentuated and not lost by grandstanding
You deserve way more likes and views this piece of music shows just how amazingly gifted the Beatles really were and you sir explained it perfectly cheers hats off to ya mate
I'm thrilled that you sing more in your awesome videos! You are amazing musician! It is a pleasure to hear you sing and play! You have a voice of an angel and fingers of destiny! :P Keep on rockin'!
@4:19, "sh1te"! Pilgrim, you've become an Irishman... Another great analysis and fabulous for lockdown days. Thanks for not forgetting the Beatles. I can't agree that Harrison was not a virtuoso, however. He was fabulous in the early Beatles, post Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins days, and he wrote some era defining, or even timeless, songs. He was also humble enough to ask Clapton to play on '... gently weeps' ..
I love George however he was not a guitar virtuoso. And there's nothing wrong with it. He was a musical genius who didn't have to be a virtuoso to prove that.
I went thru the 80s secretly loving the Beatles. But they were an old band. Now still awing the world by their better tastes than any record company can swallow. The sick thing is each of these now brilliant songs was a shot in the dark by them... These 20ish boys!
I love u man... U inspire me to play more Beatles songs in my guitar... Specially when u play acoustic songs... U have a very good technique to get those amazing tones.
Man, you do have a great voice too, perfectly in tune, it resemble a little that of Paul. Also for me the Beatles are the best of the best, since I was a child in the ‘60s, I was in love with their music, their voices. It’s always fun playing their tunes on guitar!
Thanks for your brilliant views & assessment of a beautiful classic song which could have been another Number 1 Hit should it have been released as a single like with so many Beatle classics that weren't released as singles.
Finally!! Someone, who's a great guitarist, who plays the open position A chord the Right Way!! At least, that's the way I play it too, and find it so much more comfortable and versatile that the "3 fingers in a row" configuration. (just my 2 sense). Thanks for another super inspiring video, Thom.
This is a song inspired by the Moody Blues who had a groupie girl try to enter their hotel room by the bathroom window. They were a bunch of lads in England playing music, there wasn't yet Beatlemania, so they kicked around and helped each other out. Love your approach to these videos.
Excellent. You obviously love The Beatles. I was in a Beatles tribute band for years and not manypeople get things right.......You did. Just the best band ever. I have now subscribed to you channel. Thanks for a great vlog
Harrison is so underrated because he's not flashy. What he does on a song like Dear Prudence is absolute genius, so perfect, and yet people don't think of it as great because it doesn't stand out in the mix. But on it's own, it's incredibly haunting, especially as he plays against John's rhythm part. For me at least. Dig a Pony is another one, where's it's even harder to appreciate because it wasn't recorded in a studio.
Thanks for your brilliant analysis to the song. George was never a "show up guitarist", but he always knew what to do with a song or what he once said "The song is the number one" ... not the guitar player.
The Beatles, very fun, on acoustic. I enjoy looking up chord charts of all the Beatles Solo stuff also. Man so fun, only doing their stuff and Beatles now....Thanks Guitar Pilgrim.

That's what a band is all about:
Ensemble work, instead of
egotistical show off.
Ringo's drum work
weaves beautifully into it.
So you're not only a GREAT guitarist, you have an excellent voice too!
I've heard Paul in a few interviews talking about the concept of "contrary motion" - one line of melody going up or down against a theme doing the reverse - with some enthusiasm. George was always more of a chord tone soloist rather than a scales player. Guitar Pilgrim right on the money again.

Chords don't go up or down.
Lines do, whether lead or bass
or other accompanying lines.
Yes, Nowhere Man is another perfect example of George doing a chord solo. It'a all E, B and A
Hello Goodbye also uses this approach!
Listening to Beatles song being played is one enjoyment...but listening to you break it down is just as enjoyable...nicely done.
