    Some time in April 2022 this video came across my TH-cam feed and the next day I signed up for flying lessons. My biggest challenge turned out to be getting the FAA medical certificate (thyroid cancer survivor). I persevered and got my PPL April 2, 2023 and bought a Cessna 182 a month later. My IFR check ride is scheduled in November and I’m planning on Commercial, CFI,CFII after that. Flying has been a life long dream and I finally realized it at 43 years old. Now my family and I enjoy flying cross country to visit friends/family and going to fly-ins and air shows. We are planning on going to Oshkosh in 2024, hopefully my two girls catch the aviation bug 🤞. Thanks for giving me the motivation to follow my dreams.

    This woman seems like a very conscientious and safe pilot. I love her attention to the checklist.
    I"m 75 now and was in Army Aviation in Georgia and in Vietnam.
    My dad had a Piper Tri-Pacer when I was a kid and we flew to Texas and Oregon many times. He even bought a Tri-Pacer that had been flipped in a windstorn and bought spars and fabric, rebuilding it himself. The neighbors would come over and have a beer in the back yard as dad was shrinking the fabric to the completed wings with a hot plate. He paid a lot of attention to the checklist and, in the air, we were all tasked with watching for other planes.
    My wife wondered why I wasn't bored flying with Stevie from Michigan to Camarillo. I think because we had flown into Albuquerque and I remember taking a long time to get over the mountains when we departed. The Tri-Pacer wasn't a very powerful aircraft but easy to fly.

    @StevieTriesenberg I Saw your trip to Oshkosh and have been so damn inspired to get my license. When I was 16 & finished my chemo for Hodgkin's I started flying with my uncle. He passed away a few years later and no one else in the family could fly so they sold his plane, and because I wore glasses and was "Sick", I let people tell me I could not do this for a living. I am 50 now and as I go through my ground school lessons and the 3 hours in the air thus far, I want to leave my job, get my PPL, get my instrument rating & commercial license and somehow turn this passion into a career. All because of you and that interview with the FAA and your TH-cam and the clever TikToks. SO THANK YOU for inspiring an old man to reset his life and live his passion. You are my inspiration.

      Dude, awesome that you're getting your PPL. A bit of advice, if I may: please DO NOT underestimate recreational flying. Don't go thinking that professional flying is a must in order to fulfill your flying aspirations. I'll let you in on a little secret: professional flying is, at the end of the day, a job. Like most jobs, it can (usually does) get old after a while. Recreational GA flying is where it's at. Go get a tailwheel endorsement, or a glider rating or seaplane rating. Go tow gliders, go flight instructing. There are so many way cool things to do in GA.

    I remember when I had my 1st airplane stored at Strongsville Oh. when I was 24 in 1975. I had a 1958 Cessna 182. We use to like going up to Kelly's, but flew day or night over the lake at a good altitude. We use to have to click the mike 3 times to turn on the runway lights. I like the extra power the 182 had, could load full fuel and adults and never had to worry much about weight or balance. It was rated for slips which I loved to do to come over the trees and land and turned off mid runway in 1350 ft. at Strongsville. I used that aircraft to get my private license and during my test ride for private I surprised the examiner coming in to high for my emergency landing over a farm and my examiner went to tell me I was too high and just as he said that I slipped it in and said I rather have altitude and lose it fast than be too short.😀

      Sport pilot... I was almost rejected. If you don't meet the requirements don't apply and just get a sport pilot instead. It may limit you but you can still fly

    • @daviddixon101
      @daviddixon101 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joematties7557 I looked into that, pretty closely. The sticky part is the “if you know you have a limiting condition you are ineligible.” (Paraphrased). I have a hard time skirting something like that, ethically. The guilt would just be too much, I think.

    • @joematties7557
      @joematties7557 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@daviddixon101 I guess it depends on the limiting condition. If its high blood pressure you manage then it doesn't count. If it's something that would cause you to hurt someone like random seizures then yeah that could be fatal to more than just you. My was a kidney transplant but I got a special issuance from the FAA and my medical requires renewal every year. But I can fly...

      @@daviddixon101 I get you, bro. I had a small thrombosis in my leg ( sitting motionless and dehydrated in a cramped cockpit) and the cloth unfortunately got loose eventually and clogged itself in the main pulmonal artery. I recuperated quickly from this emboly but the blood thinner that I got to take now grounded me quicker than a tail spin. Glad to live a normal life, no issues, healthy and fit as can be. But anticoagulants are an absolute no go. So I emigrated to South America and at least I can co pilot a friend who is a bush flyer and do everything from the right hand seat. My friend is glad for the help and I don‘t get paid, so everybody is happy. Wish you all the best, friend. Saludos 👍🇺🇾♥️

    I am living my aviation life thru you !!! As a fixed wing (O-1 Birddog) and rotary wing (OH-6, UH-1) crew chief during the Vietnam era I grew to love flying. Many of the pilots gave us stick time which was a highlight of the day. Unfortunately family and financial restrictions prevented me from getting my pilots license. I enjoy your videos immensely, you are very talented and professional. In those immortal words from Top Gun….”You can be my wingman “ Safe flying

    Good job talking through your preflight. I do that even when I’m alone and not recording. Talking out loud validates and confirms “Out Loud” that the settings and readings are as expected. When something is amiss it becomes more apparent since your expectation is not met when you see a wrong reading. Well done.

    This is so cool. My mother was one of a few flight instructors at Corpus Christi during WWII, and would have been just delighted by this video. She used to get flight time on PBY Catalinas but mostly flew Stearman or SNJ trainers. She worked with a Link trainer, a sort of early flight simulator, with Navy pilots. She passed away at 81, still PO's at the brass who wouldn't let her fly the F6F's or the F4U's. Way to go!

      Don't forget ongoing costs. Even 100LL fuel, running ~$6 per gallon. Costing you anywhere from $40-60 per hour. Certainly folks with fatter wallets it's a drop in the bucket... but it's not a hobby/sport many can afford.
