Major Kira watched Odo conform his body to fit into small crevices and thought to herself "Oh my! This has potential".

Actually, I like the idea that Odo's tendencies to controling and to seek order are inborn, but he is applying them in the search for justice.

This was the first and only twist in a tv show that ever completely caught me off guard. This had me completely confused right up to the reveal point.

For me it was the opposite. I think they hinted at it enough that some of us believed it to be true but mostly we were laughed at by our Trekkie friends.

Which such low technology they were able to obtain some very convincing visual effect. The whole cast was chosen carefully. I recently learned that even every word was pre-planned, no improvisation. and it shows. DS9 is my favourite and this scene is just another reason why.

This is a fundamemtal tenet of Star Trek, influence a shapeshifting demi-God in choosing us over his own people, whom he has sought out his entire life, is relevatory and is high-praise for how our integrity and moral compass has worked wonders.

one of the things i liked about ds9 was it showed yes we tried to do it the right way but when we are proven wrong (aka working with the feringi) we are willing to work with others for a compromise

To Odo's people; this wormhole was a doorway into their backyard, so that while they knew of the Federation and the other powers of the rest of the galaxy, they naturally assumed that they'd have approximately another 70,000 years to prepare, and prepare they were, then, and this's derived from interviews with the workers in that show, put yourself into the shoes of the leaders of the Dominion: "They're in your backyard *today*!", so you're naturally spooked, and you overreact and panic and begin an assault followed by an invasion; let alone that two of them basically ganged up on you and tried to commit both Regicide and Genocide all rolled into one against your people; you're going to be profoundly distrustful of them yet all over again!

what you can control cant hurt you
someone should have shown her 20th century zoo handler attacks the longer you control something the more pissed it gets.

    • @calvinjackson8110

You are right. At first I thought I understood her need to control. Now I see that it can backfire. Most conscious beings with free will will eventually tire of being controlled and will rebel to have freedom. The ultimate outcome is it will fight against the one controlling. The sad part is often they will turn around and try to impose their will on others.

She clearly loves Odo and shows respect for his friends when they stick their necks out for him. Her entire culture is xenophobic to the point of genocide - but they're clearly one big family amongst themselves.

How does the Dominon know that the Alpha quadrant is so full of Chaos? I think that Odo made the right choice just stick with the solids. The Dominon queen is evil to races of solids does anyone agree?

I wander how different the DS9 series would have been if Odo had said to the founder, "In the Alpha Quadrant you will well treated, be able to circulate without being bothered and be able to live somwhere in peace."?
And the founder had responded, "Hmm that sounds really nice, we'll come over and take a look when we can soon.".
The whole series would have gone off in a different direction from that point.

wouldn't work - the premise was the Founders did not trust an empire that was lead by solids.

That's either propaganda of gargantuan proportions, or one of the most interesting unexplored plot threads in the entire franchise.

they explored it its the reason odo got turned into a solid he was the first to hurt another changling the one he killed was not even going after odo odo was protecting his friend against it.

Mad respect for uploading DS9 clips. However if you want to try and generate more views start including keywords in the title/desc. For example if I was trying to find this clip(s) I would most likey search something like "Odo learns the changlings are founders," or "Odo denies joining the great link." Also perhaps you should add simple terms like "Deep Space Nine, DS9, Star Trek...etc to the desc to help google find it.
Just a suggestion to try and spread knowledge of this wonderful show.
