Hm i can't really agree with all of your points here. First it makes sense that the stories are on a "bigger scale" now. The strawhats are a Yonkou crew now about to challange the WG. And while the "little" side stories have been reduced the worldbuilding has significantly increased. The arce are getting longer and longer. Too long in my opinion because Oda adds a ton of worldbuilding. Thats why i also can't really agree that he wants to quit. Woundn't he make the arcs shorter and cut back on things happening? It doesn't really make sense to me that he would like to stop but but then also include things like Otama/the Scabbards/Oden/Yamato. Like you showed in the video he just added Kumas backstory. Isnt that also like one of the earlier side stories? So he really wants to quit and then include Kumas and Bonneys backstory? That doesn't really make sense. Then you said he didn't include the backstories of several characters but you also don't want to spend to much time away from the straw hats. I mean how important is Zoros family tree or Koby relationship really for the story? I would agree that he included too many side characters but that is probably because like i said in the beginning they are about to change the world so Oda wants to make the world look as "alive" as possible. It's kind of a dilemma. If Kaido has only King Queen and Jack as relevant subordinates the world doesn't really feel alive since he is a Yonkou but if he has 30 named characters you can't really give all of them relevant stories.
First, I would like to clarify that I don't believe he has lost his passion or love for the story, he just doesn't want this to take any longer than it absolutely has to because he's too worn down. He wants to make an attempt at resolving everything he's set up. That being said, I don't think the arcs have any more worldbuilding than they did before, they just have a ton more characters stretching them out because it'll save more time overall than splitting them across several smaller arcs (think Enies Lobby vs Onigashima, both were brawls, but the sheer number of fights is what protracted the latter). The characters you listed were also plot essential, and couldn't really be removed. Otama's fruit ended up being the worst possible matchup for the *Animal Kingdom* Pirates, the scabbards were introduced in 2012 (one chapter after arriving in the New World) and were the entire reason the strawhats set Wano as a target in the first place, and Oden's death was the entire reason for the revenge quest, so it wouldn't make much sense (narratively) to leave out the origin of the grudge the entire arc was based off of. I'll give you Yamato though. Maybe something will come of him in the future, but Wano's next bodyguard maybe didn't need so much time. As for the high number of side characters, the point I was trying to make was that a lot of them were introduced/built up long before Wano when Oda likely envisioned giving them a character arc he no longer has the time for. Hawkins wasn't an actual crew member, but was tossed in there to tick a box, and Kaido's genuine subordinates were likely originally intended to have their time in the sun like Doflamingo's guys in Dressrosa. Bellamy, Senor Pink, Pica - that was probably what he was going for, but characters like Ulti/Page 1 and Fukurokuju ended up getting relegated to the SBS. Only plot-essential backstories are being kept in the story now (like Kuma's, which would tie up a character introduced in 2002 whose motives for helping the crew, joining the government, and leaving the revolutionaries would all be wrapped up, while introducing a new race and shedding light on the God Valley incident), but Oda used to give just about every named character with a story their time to shine, and this may be a matter of preference (I said in the video that I understand Oda's decisions), but that did more to make the world feel alive than including a ton of miscellaneous Extras. I'll admit that 'quitting' is strong and suggests he's being forced to keep going, but after the observations I've made (could be wrong), I just think he's cut out a lot of what he enjoys and is only doing what's absolutely necessary so he can finally rest.
have to be real this just seems like a long justification for nostalgia. the story is in its final phase, it's obviously going to be completely different in tone and form from when it started decades ago. sure its hard to watch things you used to like change as you get older but the story its telling isnt the same as it used to be. the only thing i could agree with in this video is maybe the paneling, but if it's necessary to tell the story for the sake of Oda's health i think thats fine. this whole video really just reads like sadness at the openendedness of the story winding down as it nears the climax, but that's a natural part of storytelling.

Also why would he not have passion if he is so adimantly fixated on making sure the live action adaptation captures the essence of one piece. I just don't see how you got to your conclusion.
I can kinda see where your coming from but there can only bee so much build up and set up in a story, we are in the pay off phase of one piece there's no need to keep adding stuff to leave the viewer wondering where the story will go next we are waiting to see what everything has been leading up to already.
Well, I'm a nee One Piece watcher, and I'm starting Punk Hazard. And, honestly, I'm already losing steam to keep watching, and my biggest issue is: the Straw Hats. Like, after Shabondi, they just feel flat. First, we had the Marinefort arc, which was quite terrible for me. Lots of plot device character being introduced, lots of new faces risking their lives as if I even cared, and then THE second worst death in anime that I have seen. And then, after all of that, Return to Shabondi and Fishmen Islan did an excellent job at showing that Marinefort was a useless arc because none of the straw pirates grew. Yeah, they got stronger, but that hardly counts when they were already getting stronger every arc just because. Luffy kept ignoring important bits, was still rush, was still irresponsable, and so on. Not only regressing him before Marinefort, regressing him even before Waterseven. I loved Jimbei, but the first thing they do to him is kick him out of the story. Nami had a chance to have a great character moment, but Sanji kept running that scene and then Luffy finished killing it. None of the other Starw Hats did anything interesting aside from "helping". And, overall, they are just feeling like a vihacules rather than characters. We sit on them, watch the ride and watch everyone else being more interesting.
There is merely any comparison lenght wise so it’s impossible. But DBZ has always been epic to the point that Gohan transforming in SSJ2 is still the most epic anger scene all mangas included.
Length doesn’t equal quality lol. Deathnote, AoT and full metal alchemist are MASTERFUL stories that didn’t need 1107+ chapters to tell. The only reason the OP fan base is so large now is bc older people thatve read it weekly since pre-timeskip still read it bc of a sense of obligation and seeing how it ends. And newer people come in every year to see it. So the fan base slowly increases bc of that length. But the story itself has a lot of flaws and I can name 5 off the top of my head 1. Lack of character deaths, which ruins tension 2. Fake tension (dedicating a few pages to make you think a character is in danger when they CLEARLY won’t be)--did anyone really believe the ship sank in Whole Cake island when he drew that flag in the water LOL 3. Too many instances of off screening what the fans want to see (major fights or conversations bc of ‘mystery’) literally no reason to hide who shanks was telling the Gorosei about. He could’ve said “I’m here to warn you about Blackbeard/Luffy/Kidd/Foxy” and it would do nothing. Mystery just for the sake of mystery. 4. Females all look the same artistically except for big mom 5. Very very long
I honestly do not care about character death tensions. Yes, the tension is exciting, but I would much rather have characters live long boring lives than die. Even if characters get resurrected in a weird way, I'm still glad that they are alive. This is just my opinion, you do you 😅 see ya

And you can't make an ongoing 30 year story if you do not have passion about your story.
Also why would he not have passion if he is so adimantly fixated on making sure the live action adaptation captures the essence of one piece.
I just don't see how you got to your conclusion.
Whack
No u
I can kinda see where your coming from but there can only bee so much build up and set up in a story, we are in the pay off phase of one piece there's no need to keep adding stuff to leave the viewer wondering where the story will go next we are waiting to see what everything has been leading up to already.
Get glasses
Way ahead of you
Well, I'm a nee One Piece watcher, and I'm starting Punk Hazard.
L video. If you think Oda and one piece’s lacking, give one example of a book or anything that is better with the length of one piece.
There is merely any comparison lenght wise so it’s impossible. But DBZ has always been epic to the point that Gohan transforming in SSJ2 is still the most epic anger scene all mangas included.
I didn't say One Piece was lacking, or even compare it to anything else. I was comparing late One Piece to early One Piece 😭
But the story itself has a lot of flaws and I can name 5 off the top of my head
1. Lack of character deaths, which ruins tension
2. Fake tension (dedicating a few pages to make you think a character is in danger when they CLEARLY won’t be)--did anyone really believe the ship sank in Whole Cake island when he drew that flag in the water LOL
4. Females all look the same artistically except for big mom
5. Very very long
I honestly do not care about character death tensions. Yes, the tension is exciting, but I would much rather have characters live long boring lives than die. Even if characters get resurrected in a weird way, I'm still glad that they are alive. This is just my opinion, you do you 😅 see ya
