    Tip: Undo the steel nut first, then use a 'box spanner' to remove the black plastic nut which holds the tap in place. To refit, plastic nut then steel nut.

    why not loosen the flexi off and use a box spanner on the back nut? Am i missing something?

      Because this is user friendly, not many people who aren’t handy or in a trade have a box spanner to hand 👌🏻

    Might be helpful to warn people who have very SMALL washbasins. A standard basin wrench would not fit into the tiny recess in my wash-basin. You can get a wrench which is on the end of a metal bar, but in the current situation, I can't make multiple trips to the shops. I ended up having to improvise, using mole-grips and some blacksmiths tongs (don't ask!) . So ... check the size of the recess in your basin BEFORE you buy your basin-wrench, especially if you have a small wash-basin.

      Hi Marty, yes unfortunately there are many many sizes to be fair I always try and have a tap spanner anyway and would always recommend people purchase the two. But this will depend on the users requirements and needs. 👍🏻 Tread carefully guys

      No worries marty Non-taken mate but I do think it’s sometimes worth getting a tap spanner too for the sake of a few quid it’s always worth it Have a good day mate thank you

    What spanner do we use to give this quick nip to release and tighten back the flex? Woulb it be an adjustable basin tap spanner?

    (sorry for any words that may seem weird im Swedish) Hi Dan! Me and my dad have decided to try and change basin taps but the space for the wrench is too small to fit. Please help!

    • @PlumbingGy
      @PlumbingGy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You may need a tap wrench wrap it around the tap connection then use a box spanner/back nut spanner we call them, to remove the tap 👍🏻

    @joynalhussain504 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you have a video on how to do the same on a Basin. I can't find any video's that shows how to change Basin normal separate taps into a mixer

    • @PlumbingGy
      @PlumbingGy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're changing separate taps for a mixer you will have to make sure the basin is compatible, does it have two smaller holes etc?

    Do you prefer using this basin wrench to the rothenberger adjustable tap spanner?
    I always find it quite difficult with the rothenberger tap spanner

    • @PlumbingGy
      @PlumbingGy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be honest Mitchell, I don't have a preference. It is which ever fits in better sometimes a trusty spanner and socket does the trick.
      I would say I prefer the crows foot to a traditional basin wrench.

    What about if it's old solid pipework and rusted nuts, no plastic nuts or flexi pipe, ?

    • @PlumbingGy
      @PlumbingGy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have two options David, one is to isolate and remove the old pipework and fit new, or two clean it up best you can with a spark plug hard bristle brush and lubricants. Either way there is no easy way with that one I’m afraid.

    can you replace both taps with one mixer tap?

    • @PlumbingGy
      @PlumbingGy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will struggle as the basin will have two holes, normally only big enough for a standard tap not a mixer

  • @johnmckay5621
    @johnmckay5621 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    But how do you use a spanner to undo the flex when there is insufficient space ? E.g. when a bath or sink is hard against a wall ?

    • @PlumbingGy
      @PlumbingGy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes a basin spanner isn’t always the best choice in that situation but an awkward angle and a pair of grips with an adjustable will do the trick.
