- Quick & Easy!
Lawnmower Cables & how to PROPERLY adjust them.
Most people take the cable & tie a small knot into it, which will shorten the cable. This isn't the proper way to make a cable adjustment & will end up damaging the cable, causing it to fail much earlier than anticipated.
In today's video, I'll show you how to properly make a cable adjustment!

I lost count of he number of times I mounted and dismounted the carb on one of these before establishing that it wasn't the carb! Then I found the kill switch but couldn't see a cable adjustment - until your video! Thanks!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video! I was able to adjust out the slack...although on my older cable there was actually wound metal under the outer plastic cable, but I was still able to do essentially what you did. Just saved me a $12 cable! Same as others have commented...one pull and it started immediately!
OMG, this is brilliant! Thanks so much... really wish I'd known about this a few years ago before someone helped me by tying a knot, because now I am on here trying to find videos on changing a broken cable! 🙃God bless!😇

Thank you for the advice that's what I was having on my lawn mower I kept thinking it was in the carburetor because the mower would start and shut off.
Thank you so much! This is exactly what I was looking for! I was able to finish the lawn before the rain moved in! God Bless!
Thanks for watching!
Great video , found this over the weekend and adjusted the lawn mower cable yesterday, running great now and I don’t need a second person to help out in starting it
Thanks for watching!
Followed your directions and it started on the first pull. Thanks for the tip!
I learned something new. I wish I had known about this years ago when my brother-in-law asked me to check out his lawn mower since I tend to be able to fix things. I had checked everything else, this probably is what it was too. I was determined to to get it running, just to Simply say that I had figured out what it was. That was the only thing I didn't check, didn't even cross my mind that it would make a difference. Thanks . Good info to have for the future.
Thanks for watching!
Tips and tricks. 👍 Stop (kill) switch issue resolved. Thank you. 🎉
Thankyou for this, it is exactly whats happening to my lawnmower, I will try this today :)
Thank-You for taking your time & giving us that good-tip!
Excellent tip that will save many of your subscribers or viewers mucho dolleros, this video alone should boost your subscriber numbers. You have the most concise, organised and well edited videos on line. I should know since the pandemic hit i have been watching every small engine repair video on TH-cam. I know that all the barber shops are closed as non essential business but a beard trim would be OK!

Exactly the info I needed to fix my mower after checking everything else. Thank you.
Top marks for incredibly useful, and accurate info. Cheers !!
Any negative reviews on this are stupid. This is a great "hack" that works. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Really is the casing in the cable shorting the cable. is the inside of the casing griping the cable so that in wont move when you adjust the end cap no right so its really stupid video does not help at all
@@EliminatorPerformance i am going to eliminate a issue using eliminator trick

Great tip!! Who knew? Wish I knew about this a very long time ago. I thought this might help me with increasing the self-propel speed on a TroyBilt mower but it didn't work like I was hoping. Is it possible that transmission has internally just worn out to extent that it will never increase speed? It appears that the tension is maxed out and it is just way too slow. I have a Cub Cadet with similar problem but have not spent enough time on it to come to conclusion and will try your tip to see if it helps. Thanks.
Super helpful. Thanks
I just love your tips👏

So my question is, how does one remove the cable at the throttle end? The fitting you show unthreading is wedged in that groove to a point I can’t remove it without the possibility of damaging or destroying it.
I've watched two different videos and they don't show how to remove it. I guess, I'll try it until it breaks. Great video, but a lot of times they skip step one.
Crazy but this just happened today to me, thanks soooooo much
Thanks for sharing... going to try it later today.... : )
great tip
Thanks for watching!
Excellent didn't know this
Thanks!
Thanks for the support
Great tip I changed the carburetor spark plug new air filter new fuel line still wouldn't start. Turned out I had a broken kill switch cable. Just had to push the kill switch a little more by hand and it started right up.
Good day Interesting . never knew that. Thanks for now

you sir are a f.ckin life saver. 2 days of pulling my hair out and now my mower works, thank you so much,
This is the video I’ve been searching for. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Neat trick .
Thanks Pete!
We had to buy a new cable that was supposed to be for our old mower and put it on but apparently it is way longer. Do you know if it can be shortened?
Great video tutorial.. Will this work for self propelled drive cables?
Yes they should as long as they have the similar end
but i do thank you for your vid, it was helpful.
I tried modeling the brake cable with a copper cable about the same width as the coil inside the black cable housing but it just doesn't excert enough force to push the blade brake lever toward the motor bracket.
Does the black cable housing have something to do with the wire coil being able push the lever when you pull it with the control handle?
what prevents us from just using a sturdy wire coil without housing?
I want to understand how this works before I buy a replacement cable.
Any help would be appreciate.
Thanks.
Help me out, please! Craftsman mower. Brake holding flywheel and crankshaft from spinning? Mechanic turned it sideways, spun the blade, and said it was a "bent crankshaft". I don't think so........it turns by hand. Not "hydro lock". I removed the spark plug, and "dry". Yes, has oil in crank case! No gusher comes out of plug hole. I'm thinking the brake cable needs adjustment and all will be well. What do you think? (This all began with a loose blade bolt. Changed blade and tightened.)
You can manually release the flywheel brake on the engine. Remove the engine cover and you should be able to see it. Either that or you have a sheared flywheel key
How would I adjust the throttle cable on my Lawn-Boy model 10324? It does not have the threaded caps on the end of the cable. The cable does not move far enough to move the carb into the choke position.
Can you do video maintenance on the pressure washer please thanks
Thanks, it will help a lot more if you kindly do it step by step, otherwise it's hard to actually put it into practice. Thank you 😅
good one mate, i also like cutting the cable and fitting a z bend to the end works a treat too
Thanks for watching!
Do you have a video on how to remove and install
I replace my Husqvarna AWD drive cable twice both times it frayed and broke off down near the bottom within an hour. Both cables were installed same as the original cable that lasted 9 years.
Do you have to remove the cable to adjust it or did you just do that for video clarity?
You only really have to remove the end, then twist it out, then pop it back in
I adjusted mine on both ends and voila started right up. It was a brand new cable and i was getting frustrated. Almost tried the knot solution. Old cable rusted tight over the winter.
Now I know thank you
