I began to observe nature 2 years ago after I discovered the Ural owl near my home. Tawny owls are more common but even more difficult to observe because they are exclusively nocturnal. The best way to find owls is to learn their calls and locate them at night.
Wow! Great shots, I feel your excitement when you see the owl, it’s the best feeling finding a bird that you’ve been wanting to photograph for so long.
Beautiful work, Trond. Perseverance and hard work paid off. I love photographing owls. I entered gallery exhibit with three of my pictures last week. One of them was a barred owl, very similar to your tawny owl. One was a hummingbird and one was a butterfly. My group of three won first place.
The owls are very beautiful. Beautiful photos Trond. I have also photographed an owl. They call the burrowing owl here in Brazil. I had a Fuji to photograph. Congratulations on the video.
I hadn't seen a Tawny for years . I hear them all the time. Then setting out for Deer photography a Screeching Juvenile Tawny Owl was on my Neighbours roof ! Too dark really but got a record shot, delayed my departure by ten minutes. Great to see I won't have far to go if it survives the Winter
Amazing photos! Owls are one of my favourite wildlife subjects. They are always mystical to me. It's in there eyes and the way they are completely silence flying in the night. Absolutely wonderful creatures they are!
Beautiful video Trond. I enjoy your approach to photography. I started bird photography about a year ago, with the purchase of a 500mm lens. So far I have photos of about 60 species of bird in my local area. No owls yet but I'm hoping to get some soon. Thanks for the motivation!
Those birds are absolutely stunning :D unfortunately I haven't had the honor of getting one on camera yet, but maybe one day.. :D As always.. beautiful work ones again Trond.
Amazing video, with Iso 6400 I didn't think you shouldn't really have any issues with noise, especially with Topaz/Dxo pure Raw or Lightroom denoise. Those images are stunning. The patience really paid off!
Love your channel and I am very jealous of the places you visit. I can’t afford a z mount 600 f4 but I can afford a used f mount. Do you think is better than using 180-600? I mostly use the long end
I share your excitement. Love owls. I am fortunate enough to live in a city which is close to a national park in Hungary, where you can find owls (mostly ural owls, not tawny, but they are pretty similar :D ). In autumn they are always hanging around meadows and some of them are pretty tolerant towards humans. Btw is the z9 + 600mm f4e managable if you handhold it?
Great bird. Congratulation. I have some technical question. I see you use the video head on tripod. Do you prefer it over the classic gimbal for long tele? Any advantages over gimbal?
I’ve always felt a bit wary of getting too close to Tawny Owls after what happened to famous wildlife photographer Eric Hoskings. Probably a little overly cautious I admit.

It seemed during the video like you didn’t get any shots you liked, and then you show off like 10 amazing photos in the end 😅 Nicely done!
Natures mysterious creatures...
Gorgeous

Excelente.
Great video, and wonderful photos!
I’m still looking for a tawny owl near my cabin, after 9 years… frustrating!
Thank you so much! Hope you will find it one day. Best time is late may.
Great Video man, great encounter!! Anyone knows which 600mm f4 is this one??
Thank you so much! :) I am using the new Z 600mm f/4 with TC.

Beautiful! Common owl?
Thank you! Common in my area....but not easy to find, dure to nocturnal activity.
@@trondwestby thank you, the videos l always am exceptional
Amazing Tront. Such a beautiful Bird as you always say. 👍📷

Fantastisk video :D hvor i landet er dette ?

Thats awesome! Yes, together they are very managable to handhold.
Great bird. Congratulation. I have some technical question. I see you use the video head on tripod. Do you prefer it over the classic gimbal for long tele? Any advantages over gimbal?
I use it for smoother movement in video. And also lighter than gimbal .
Hi Trond, do you take any gears to defense yourself during photography in forest? Thank you
Hi! There is nothing that I need to protect me from in this forest :)
I’ve always felt a bit wary of getting too close to Tawny Owls after what happened to famous wildlife photographer Eric Hoskings. Probably a little overly cautious I admit.
WHY DO YOU USE A LENS HOOD EVEN IF THERE IS NO SUN?
To protect the large front glass. To expencive to break :)
