  • Hey guys! Sorry this one took so long, it turns out making build videos sucks! :D
this is the build for the 3D printed hovercraft thing I made in a previous video here: • FREE 3D printed RC hov...
The STL files are located here for the hovercraft:
    www.thingiverse.com/thing:2108890
This hover craft is made of PLA plastic, you guys may opt to try and use other plastics too! ABS would be one I would be interested in trying when I construct a heated build chamber
    Things that you'll need are:
    Motors: goo.gl/VGQe93
    battery: goo.gl/0yyBZ1
    servos: goo.gl/VvyRR2
    ESC: goo.gl/B0sQXS
Also some various plugs, servo extension leads, and misc hardware should be nice to have as well!

    Camera Gear I film with:
    ▶ Main Camera - shorturl.at/aeAZ8

+PeterSripol did you miss my comment last video? I have a hovercraft design prototype (1/8 scale for a 2 seat full size) I really think you'll want to disect it. it's only cardboard and mice got to it but... in waterproof foam board the double hull perimeter+skirt will float unpowered, tons more stability too. message me I'll send it to ya (local post office general delivery is good enuf). it'd be really cool for a good plan that doesn't leave out the non 3D printer folks.

PeterSripol I don't know if you have enough money for theses projects so there's an app called Tad that I can watch ads that pay up to 15x more than TH-cam does .yea I know. it's not a scam just download the app make an account then make 500$ a year or something like that I would totally support you OK please make a tad account thanks and keep up the great vids!

I know you designed a lot of planes, that why I want to ask for a tutorial on designing aircraft.
What are the important ratios? (Drag/Lift, Lift/Mass, Wingspan/Fuselage length, Wing area/Stabilizer area & so on)
    where are aerodynamics important?
How to construct a high/low lift/drag wing out of foam?
What angle of attack should your wing have?
These are some questions I ask myself, as I am designing my first RC plane.
A tutorial from your side would be awesome!
Keep up the great work :D

nice project as always, i might get a 3d printer soon it seems fun. I made a larger hovercraft out of thin plywood, uses a lot of power because it is pretty heavy, using the lift motor on a seperate channel is pretty good once you get used to it. It runs on a 3300mah 4 cell. both the lift motor and thrust motor use 6 bladed props, 3 2 blade props put on one shaft.

    • @PeterSripol

awesome shortcut, a cheap styrofoam nylon cloth covered boogie board is SO epoxy resin ready for 3 coats. just needs motor stand (shelf bracket!), rudders, and radio gear. makes a really great (and fast!) simple build air boat. fun on water or on grass, not a hovercraft but still really fun!

One idea for improvement could involve using several separated lift bags instead of a single one. Might help it handle different terrains.
Gonna have to add this one to my list of projects.

    • @modelnutty6503

sectional skirting is a great way to go with the full size hovercraft, you're only repairing or replacing a segment when (not it!) they get damaged. I studied a LOT of hovercraft designs over a couple years time to develop an efficiency minded 1-2 seater (not built yet darnit).

Looks like if you moved the lift nacel and the canopy/electronics mounting about an inch back it would be better balanced and you'd likely fix the nose diving and I'm betting the skirt would last longer. Moving the center opening forward or just starting it further forward would probably have the same effect.

I built a hovercraft from a cheap tiny drone and using some 3rd party firmware i've been able to utilize the gyro to maintain the hover, its more fun than it sounds but if you get a chance check out tiny whoovers, and the firmware whooverware based on silverware for whoops and cheap whoop flight controllers.

Hey Peter. Thanks for the build video, very clear and helpful. One question though, in the end of the video when you set the lift fan to your elevator channel. How did you overcome the fact that the stick is sprung at center, how did you make it so the motor only spooled up at the top half of the stick range. Thanks man, love the videos keep them coming

I see you used cyano-acrylate glue on your nacelles - I don't know if you are aware, but c/a glue is denatured by contact with water, which is why they tell you not to mend tea/coffee cup handles with it. Can the plastic you use be cemented with something like 'Plastic Weld' or 'Mek-Pak'? These will cement Butyrate, ABS, and Polystyrene very strongly, with the join being as strong as the surrounding plastic. I mention this, as years ago, I made a boat to sit in a water butt so that when it froze, I could remove the model, and lift the ice out using the hole the boat had made. I used Superglue. Result? The boat fell apart and sank, meaning that the water froze, and the resulting ice split the waterbutt.

interesting! huh, didint know that about CA, The hovercraft is PLA but I guess I'll have to do more research about it! The good thing is though it only spends just a few minutes on water, hopefully its not enough to cause the joints to weaken and fail!

FliteTest's site is pretty good with their foam board planes motor and prop size recommendations, for many sizes/types of aircraft free plans they offer. you can download and print the plans, trace them onto foam board, cut+fold+glue and have a success gaining more experience. it will really be worth it!

Vaibhav you're very welcome. Peter worked with FliteTest a good while and their dot-com site is really such an excellent resource for us hobby guys! you can build from a couple sheets foam board, one dollar a sheet from a dollar store, transfer printed out plans with carbon paper is a good method. after a few builds and looking at many plans, power recommendations, wings (several types) and the aircraft's center of gravity, you'll learn a whole lot about how to go ahead with more building of your own designs. hope to see some great originals someday too!
