Our 2020 T250 has started to not restart while sitting at a stop light. Sometimes it gives a message to put in park, turn off key and then restart. So far that has worked. It also has not been cranking over at all despite all lights and power is on. If I cycle the transmission and turn key on and off during that process it starts. Dealer says there are no codes being thrown, battery is 80+ percent and of course they can't get it to repeat for them. 36 hours after picking up from dealer, it wont crank over without my whacky technique. If you have seen this before, I would greatly appreciate a reply. Your video was awesome, we need more guys like you. Thank you!
Hi. It's pretty easy to fix a lot of laptop batteries. Plenty of videos on the subject. Sometimes one or more of the cells drops below minimum charge (or the whole bank does) and it's as simple as opening the battery and directly connect to the battery bank applying appropriate voltage. This bypasses the charging controller which is preventing a charge due to under voltage. If just 1 cell is bad, (not uncommon) charge the one. If it takes a charge great. If not, resolder another 18650 battery with as close a spec as possible. This works on many rechargables besides laptops. I've done it many times. If you have questions feel free to ask, but I'm sure you get the idea, plus plenty videos, I think, on the subject are available . God Bless, Rick
Thats why i prefer when my customers come to me first before trying to diagnose themselves. I tell people with a dead battery, alternator, or circuit issue they will get all sorts of erroneous codes that mean nothing to the real problem.
Master tech in our shop was losing his ass on one of these maybe two days ago. Wish I could’ve had this video for them. We eventually sent it off to our truck shop at a different location
Great diag and yes I said the same thing on fleet transit today! It did not want to start and died like battery issues and head person was just saying to change fuel pump 🤦🏻♂️and I knew it wasn’t fuel pump. 1. I needed to jump it from the battery but tried under the hood which went dead when I tried that and it shouldn’t do that when you try use jump box. Previous diag was 20psi fuel which I don’t know how they got that conclusion. Replaced it but I seen issues going to arise again but all in all this is good info bro! I didn’t know about these mega fuses. I work on 2018 350 transits. I will look at this tomorrow to confirm👍🏼
Hey Rich had these laptops in some of the squads when I took care of them. In most cases batteries plus in Elgin on Randall rd used to stock these for our department and others. If they didn’t have them they usually had them to me within 2-3 days. Give them a try
Hey Rich I had a weird auction car the other day, 2016 mustang, everything worked on the car except the battery charge light was on the dash, but the alternator was charging, and randomly the car wouldn’t crank, battery was good and even with a jump box it would sound like you have a dead battery, several starter clicks and then that’s it. Was chasing my tail all over the place looking for bad grounds and whatnot. Finally got to a point of checking powers and grounds to the pcm, I was missing 2 powers at the pcm. Come to find out inside the fuse box it had pcm batt 1 and pcm batt 2 and one of those fuses was just missing from the fuse box. Very weird problem that it was missing 2 pcm power circuits and the only thing not working was the 2 problems I described, it was definitely a head scratcher for sure. With the symptoms it was having I can guarantee some other shops out there would have thrown an alternator and starter at it lol
I have the same issue when looking up TSBs with the VIN on some of the police interceptor SUVs. Do a search without the VIN and whoomp (there it is)! I'm starting to think these 300 amp fuses are mislabeled 30 amp ones 😜 Thanks for the info! We have a couple of Transit buses added to the fleet recently.
Really good info. I actually have an issue with my 2017 transit 150 that once in a while it will show “brake booster fault”in the screen. Dealer was never able to diagnose the issue.
Two kinds of repairs nowadays broken bones and brain damage this one kind of falls in the middle but it still comes back to the Pinhead with the pencil in his hand.
I think fuses and their build quality are the next nightmare for techs since everything thing else has gone for crap in build quality. Just had two of our new Ram 5500 bucket trucks go out for warranty due to charging circuit failures. Both had mega fuse failures and were built into the harnesses, so the entire harness needed replaced instead of a $10 fuse. And to make it better, the harness were on backorder from Chrysler for two months! Luckily our 22’ f550s have been good so far, fingers crossed…..
I was just looking on Amazon yesterday for the same battery and I found a couple on Amazon . They are not Panasonic branded but they will get you through in a pinch
People think that they know more or their way is better and then when I let them do it and I don't say anything they f*** it up and then I have to come back and redo it or bail them out of a spot they put themselves in I mean it is what it is...people end up having to fail in order to feel like they atleast tried it on their own
I got a 2020 and my battery keeps draining if not driven more than 3 days Only after market part is a dash cam and a directed smart start alarm and I'm positive it has nothing to do with it I need to do a parasitic draw test
Loved the video but I have to wonder what rocket scientist decided that fuses weren't servicable parts, perhaps they need to send the engineers and accountants out to the real world for 10 years before they are allowed to put a design like that into production. Some blame the location which has nothing to do with the real problem, the lack of comprehension that all parts of a vehicle need to be servicable at -40 and 300 miles away from the closest dealer.
Nah I just avoid any newer vehicles hence my 2004 F150 and 2010 Town Car. Newer cars on average can be relatively reliable but the bulk of tow truck calls are the more modern cars with their delicate electronic and mechanical systems. I have seen the new safety systems in action and won't deny their effectiveness like the one distracted Toyota RAV4 driver who drove across the oncoming traffic lane in front of me which caused it's stability control system to correct the driver preventing it from barrel rolling when they tried to yank the steering wheel back as it bounced through the ditch. These systems are life savers but I have to wonder how many new drivers will never learn how to correctly drive for incliment weather conditions or deal with a system failure as modern vehicles correct for their lack of driving skills like the enhanced cornering correction that stability control can bring.
Great Video. My boss who is a master tech himself link me to your video. I'm having the same issue with 2022 Ford Transit where you turn the key and its no cranking. There are three Fault messages that displayed and few other lights. The radio works, lights, heating/AC all still functions normally. Vehicle is sitting at a Ford Dealership after a repair shop couldn't figure it out. I'm going back tomorrow and going to check this Mega fuse and hopefully it is the cause.

@@FordBossMe that’s part of the problem as soon as you plug in a tester into the ODB port, the dash lights up, throws a ton of pop-ups then ‘engine service now’ and the engine dies

On my BRAND NEW 2022 F-150, Why in the H _ _ _ am I continuing to get Messages from FORD PASS that say (REMOTE FEATURES DISABLED TO PRESERVE BATTERY) And Bla, Bla, Bla, go for a LONG Ride to "Recharge" my Battery. I been on LONG RIDES! So, What??? Do I have a "BAD" NEW Battery? 03/2022 Build Date!

Back in my time as a tech (Subaru) the only time we seen those fuses go out are when people jump started them and crossed the cables. So what you are saying is that vibration causes a rivet to break?
Yes most certainly it does we don't know that that's exactly the case with this situation but we are suspecting the increase in uptick and Rise of these becoming a problem
@@FordBossMe it was usually a salesman or body shop technician. Rarely did we have customers actually do it. We ended up keeping several on hand the dealer I worked at was a Volkswagen dealership as well. We had a lube tech jump a vw backwards one time not only did the battery blow up in his face it blew the mega fuse and the horn wouldn't stop blaring. That's actually a feature with VW in case of a crash and loss of battery power.
Ain't technology great. 😖😵💫 A computer you can't get a battery for and all the other diagnostics failing. Fire the parts cannon all to to be flummoxed and beat out by a lousy pair of pliers. Only temporary but very informative. How much do we miss our carburetors?

They finally got it started but they could not figure out what the problem was. No codes or anything. They didn't charge me which was a good thing. They said it had fuel pressure. But the same thing is happening again. I have not tried to start in nuetral....
It could be the way people are jumping these it could be the fact that the mega fuses are loosening up where they are riveted to the circuit board and it's breaking connection so it's shorting out

Hello Rich, Had to put 2 new battery in a 2015 Transit a while ago , they have the same setting with those big fuses and a relay, could you give us info on its purpose please,it is connected to one of battery. Why is the reason for 2 batteries ? Thanks for educating us . Tigo
I don't know what the reason is for two batteries I think it's because it's the work vehicle and they know people are going to run stuff out of it possibly for upfitting options
Hey actually other battery is for aux stuff other is start battery in nutshell. My aux battery exploded while back symptoms were there and we ignored too long. By aux mean hydronic heater, radio etc.
Just bought a 2022 new Transit T350 drove it 240 miles home. A day later turned the windshield wipers on only to find them moving in a pulsing movement across the windshield. No matter what, setting you said, they move the same way pulsing. Seems more electronic to me than a mechanical problem. Any thoughts on this?
@@FordBossMe Took it to local Ford dealer, said it need a new motor. Took it back for the motor replacement. Then I'm told I have a short in my wiring harness and they can't locate one at this time. When I got home I looked only to see the harness is unplugged with one pin melted (Brown/Yellow stripe), and several wires in the harness burned up. Even meling the lum. Ever see a DC short? Does Ford have a service beyond a dealer for a new vehicle? Where can I see a diagram? I'm not trying to fix it just see how it's wired.
Losing my mind. Had “charging system service now” the other day while driving” when I parked 10+ minutes later, I shut down and started right back up no problems…. 3 or so days later went to start and had everything normal when turning the key, but no spark to start the van. Battery is fully charged. Can’t figure it out for the life of me. Abby recommendations?
@@FordBossMe yes, the 3 mega fuses all seem to be perfect. When I put the key in, my vehicle acts the same as when you connect the circuit with the door pliers… beeping, electrical is all on and working as normal… just getting that “click” when I turn the key to ignite..

Had a transit with a blown 300 amp .
Only thing I can think of is the boosting it wrong from under the hood on the fuse box .

Them Laptop batteries are all over eBay. Cheap, not an OEM part but they work.
So we've ordered six different batteries and none of them have worked I just ordered one off of eBay that should be here in the next couple days

Try Batteries Plus for your computer battery. I have used them and they are good quality.

I think they have a reprogram for those new vehicles that are saying stuff like that the body control module has to be reprogrammed

Just get some generic lion batteries, carefully open your laptop battery back and rebuild the pack. I've done it.

@@ajetimusliu8408 mine just turns over but will not start....same thing happened last year around the same time I had it towed to the dealership after trying everything I could.
They finally got it started but they could not figure out what the problem was. No codes or anything. They didn't charge me which was a good thing. They said it had fuel pressure.
But the same thing is happening again. I have not tried to start in nuetral....

Could that cause the same problem if you remove the positive post of the battery first and try to reconnect from the positive post

It could be the way people are jumping these it could be the fact that the mega fuses are loosening up where they are riveted to the circuit board and it's breaking connection so it's shorting out

Had to put 2 new battery in a 2015 Transit a while ago , they have the same setting with those big fuses and a relay, could you give us info on its purpose please,it is connected to one of battery.
Why is the reason for 2 batteries ?

I don't know what the reason is for two batteries I think it's because it's the work vehicle and they know people are going to run stuff out of it possibly for upfitting options
Hey actually other battery is for aux stuff other is start battery in nutshell. My aux battery exploded while back symptoms were there and we ignored too long.
By aux mean hydronic heater, radio etc.

Just bought a 2022 new Transit T350 drove it 240 miles home. A day later turned the windshield wipers on only to find them moving in a pulsing movement across the windshield. No matter what, setting you said, they move the same way pulsing. Seems more electronic to me than a mechanical problem. Any thoughts on this?

@@FordBossMe Took it to local Ford dealer, said it need a new motor. Took it back for the motor replacement. Then I'm told I have a short in my wiring harness and they can't locate one at this time. When I got home I looked only to see the harness is unplugged with one pin melted (Brown/Yellow stripe), and several wires in the harness burned up. Even meling the lum. Ever see a DC short? Does Ford have a service beyond a dealer for a new vehicle? Where can I see a diagram? I'm not trying to fix it just see how it's wired.

Losing my mind. Had “charging system service now” the other day while driving” when I parked 10+ minutes later, I shut down and started right back up no problems…. 3 or so days later went to start and had everything normal when turning the key, but no spark to start the van. Battery is fully charged. Can’t figure it out for the life of me. Abby recommendations?

@@FordBossMe yes, the 3 mega fuses all seem to be perfect. When I put the key in, my vehicle acts the same as when you connect the circuit with the door pliers… beeping, electrical is all on and working as normal… just getting that “click” when I turn the key to ignite..
